COURSE

OUTLINE • History and practice of public relations in Indian and global setting – The

importance of communication in a spectrum of corporate setting is

analyzed. Need and role of PR professionals is studied.

• Communication ethics, low and regulation is discussed.

• Media Environment in India and the world – Building and maintaining

relationships of credibility with the media and developing methodology

for the successful practice of media relations. The overview of the print,

electronic and digital media is given and PR is understood in the context

of a fast-growing, fast-changing media.

• Developing specialized skills for effective writing including

brainstorming, researching, planning, structuring, wording, presenting,

rewriting are taught through drill exercises in reading and understanding

corporate news and literature.

• Qualitative research methodologies to produce knowledge-driven

programs and to measure the outcome of marketing strategies are

discussed.

• Developing strategic communication plans that include blending internal

and external initiatives to accommodate core company principles are

shared. Anticipating crisis situation and doing crisis management is

understood. Organizing press conferences and media meetings, issuing

press releases is taught.

• Even Management and Planning – Importance of events for corporate

marketing and the kind of events with differing deliverables is studied.

terms – Language, Culture and Cognition. It also focused on how they are related to each

other in so many ways.

IIIrd year students by Ms. Nidhi Kunwar (Faculty at Mata Sundri College for Women,

University of Delhi) on 15th February, 2018. The talk was on the process of writing and

focused on the milestones in the life of an emergent writer. The speaker shared various

interesting examples to demonstrate these milestones.

The Department of Elementary Education organized a talk on “Writing Process in Indian

Classrooms” for IInd year students by Ms. Preeti (A Government School teacher) on 15th

March, 2018. This session started with the challenges of teaching (from the perspective of

emergent literacy) in a school. The resource person, herself practicing emergent writing

perspective, shared her experience of coping with all these challenges. She also talked

about various strategies that she uses in her classroom.

platform for personality development and pageant training. The seminar covered the

The NSS unit of Jesus and Mary College organised a First Aid Training Workshop on 26th

February 2019 in the college. Mr. Arun Kumar was the main guest of this event. The event

provided necessary information to the participants about how to give CPR, controlling

bleeding, reduce pain and priorities of treatment. The event was successful as it provided

students with necessary information about how to deal with a road accident. The faculty

members and students of JMC made their valuable contribution to this programme.

Workshop on Basic Life Support in collaboration with Primus Super Speciality Hospital,

New Delhi was conducted on 11th March ‘19 in the College Auditorium by Dr. Abhitab

Sagar, Senior Consultant - CTVS and Anaesthesia, Primus Super Speciality Hospital. He

spoke on the importance of the Golden Hour and the Art of Saving Life, with a focus on

Basic Life Support techniques like CPR. A demonstration was also given to the students

with the help of a dummy.

A 15 hour Certification Workshop on Basic Data Analysis using R was organized between 26th

September, 2018 and 27th March, 2019 on the initiative of Dr. Anu Saxena, Associate Professor,

Department of Mathemetics, JMC. The theory lectures were delivered by Ms. Charu Sarin Arora,

Ms. Gurpreet Kaur, Ms. Priyanka Marwah, Ms. Saloni Arora, Ms. Ruhi Kakkar Ghai (Assistant

Professors, Department of Commerce, JMC). The 7 hours hands-on training on Software R was

imparted by Ms. Akanksha Aggarwal (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, JMC). A

batch of 30 students joined the course and 21 students qualified and received certificates at a

concluding ceremony organised on 27th March, 2019 where they presented the outline of research

projects conceived by 8 groups of students using what they learnt at the workshop.

process. This session by Ms. Sana & Ms. Arpita from Power of You, was a welcome step

prospects. The session successfully assisted the students on cracking GD rounds while

developing their interpersonal communication skills.
