World demand for pulp and paper and other pulp products is erpeoted to

increase- rapidly in the coming years. The developing countries fortunately

have abundant resources of fibre raw materials that could be exploited to meet

this demand, but many new pulp and paper mills will have to be bi-ilt. UNIDO

assists developing countries in establishing pulp and paper industries and in

improving exiBting ones.

pour eux un intérêt majeur. Le présent guide, qui concerne l'industrie de la

pâte à papier et du papier, est le onzième de la série des Quides des Bources

INTRODUCCIÓN

La Organización de lae Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo Industrial

(ONUDl) promueve la utilización de información industrial en los países en

desarrollo proporcionando orientación para el mejoramiento de loe servicios

locales de información. Uno de loe medios de promoción que emplea la ONUDl

consiste en conpilar guías de fuentes básicas de información aobre ranas de

la industria de especial interja para los países en desarrollo. La presente

gufa, que trata de la industria de la celulosa y el papel, es la undecima de

la serie Cufas de Puentes de Información (UNIOO/LIB/SER.D) que publica la

ONUDl. La lista de las guías publicadas hasta la fecha figura en el anverso

de la contratapa de la presente gufa) se previ la publicación de muchas guías

mis en eeta serie.

Estas guías no pretenden ser exhaustivas ni están destinadas a servir de

instrumentos de investiga-ion; presentan, Bits bien, una «elección de fuentes

que se consideran de valor practico para los usuarios. Loe datos se han reco-

pilado de nodo tal que faciliten el ripido acceso a las entidades mencionadas

y la adquisición de las publicaciones que se indican.

En los próximos años, se previ un ripido aumento de la demanda mundial

de celulosa y papel, así como de otros productos de celulosa. Afortunadamente,

los países an desarrollo cuentan oon abundantes recursos de materias primas

fibrosas que podrían explotarse para satisfacer esta demanda, pero habrí que

establecer muchas ftbricas nuevas de celulosa y papel. La OMUDI presta asis-

tencia a los países en desarrollo para establecer nuevas industrias de celulosa

y papel y para mejorar las existentes.
