Kota: Sitting on the boat with other offi-cials with neck-deep water around, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was seen in-specting the flood-hit areas in Sangod city in Rajasthan’s Kota district on Saturday. While he was moving around in an inflata-ble boat, shops and equivalent establish-ments on either side of the road were sub-merged almost com-pletely.

In an interaction with media, Birla said, “The floods have caused heavy losses. The situation is dire. abindranath Tagore died in Calcutta on 7th August 1941 at the age of eighty. He and Ma-hatma Gandhi were born in the same decade. Tagore was born on 7th May 1861. Gandhi on 2nd October 1869.

Rabindranath Tagore was the first Asian to get the No-bel Prize. He won the prize for Gitanjali in 1913. Tagore was a poet, essayist, dramatist, painter, novelist, song writer, composer, journalist, philoso-pher, educationist, orator and tireless globe trotter.

As an eleven year old school boy, I started a scrapbook, in which I pasted newspaper cut-tings, photos, war maps etc. the scrap book has survived. I picked it up lately to see if there was anything on Tagore, who had departed the world about the time the scrapbook saw the light of day.

To my joyous surprise I found several newspaper clippings relating to his life and death. On this day (this essay was written on Friday) I shall mention a few of the tributes paid to him.

MAHATMA GANDHI“In the death of Gurudev Ra-bindranath Tagore we have not only lost the greatest poet of the age but an ardent na-tionalist who was also a hu-manitarian. There was hard-ly any public activity on which he has not left the im-pression of his powerful per-sonality. In Shantiniketan and Sriniketan he has left a legacy to the whole nation, indeed to the world.”

“May the noble soul rest in peace and those in charge at Shantiniketan and Sriniket-an prove worthy of the re-sponsibility resting on their shoulders”

LORD LINLITHGOW, THE VICEROY“I am deeply grieved to learn of the death of your father, (he sent his message to Tagore’s son), “This marks

the end of a long life of ser-vice inspired by his high ide-als nobly conceived and ac-tively pursued, and will be an inspiring example for gener-ations to come. In him India has lost one of her greatest sons, who through his mani-fold gifts and achievements, helped to raise her in the es-timation of the world. Please accept my sincere condolenc-es for your irreparable loss.”

JAWAHARLAL NEHRU Nehru was in Dehradun cen-tral jail at the time. He sent a telegram to Tagore’s son, Rathindranath in which he wrote, “Gurudev’s passing away has left us all, who have grown up in the shadow of his

towering genius and mighty personality and enveloped by his great tradition for long in the dark. India’s greatest star illuminating not only our own country but the world with a synthesis of the rich wisdom of the past and of the present has set, and our hearts are empty. Yet his voice rings in our ears and the flaming mes-sage of his recent utterances will be our guiding star.

“In line with great Indian sages of the past he has left us an imperishable inheritance and even at the moment of his passing away, we think with pride and gratitude, love and reverence of this mag-nificent life and its achieve-ment. That precious inherit-ance we shall treasure, and I earnestly trust that every In-dian will consider it his duty to help in the development and growth of Shantiniketan and Vishwabharti, which em-body Gurudev’s ideal.”

M.A. JINNAH“I am grieved to hear of the death of Dr. Rabindranath Tagore. I had the privilege of knowing him from my young-er days and the last time I had the honour of meeting him in London was in 1929. His very frank and illuminating dis-cussions were a great source of encouragement. Above all he was a true patriot and al-ways willing to understand and appreciate the opposite point of view. My deepest and sincerest sympathies go out to his family in their bereave-ment. It is an irreparable loss to India. Tagore will live with us through his work.”

SIR. S. RADHAKRISHNAN“He was the greatest figure of the modern Indian renais-sance. A poet of his qualities we have not had for some gen-erations. He is in the grand line of Valmeeki and Kalida-sa. Her versatility was re-markable. As a poet and prose writer, as a singer and com-poser, his achievements were of the first quality. Besides he was a great prophet and wise counsellor and guide for our future destiny. Millions out-side India respected our country and its culture on ac-count of his writings. I have lost a very dear friend. That he was born in our country means that God is not disap-pointed with us. The greatest respect that we can render to his memory would be to stand for the spiritual ideals of this great man and fight for them against every attempt to sub-jugate the country.”

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Satur-day, said the effect of the second wave of COVID-19 in Rajasthan has become ‘negligible’ now, but people will still have to be vigilant and follow the guidelines amid rising number of cases in different coun-tries and some states of India.

Gehlot directed that the committee of minis-ters constituted regard-ing the reopening of educational institu-tions in the state should take appropriate deci-sions in view of the pandemic situation in other states.

He said the commit-tee should also take into account the experience of other states in reo-pening educational in-stitutions.

All other related de-partments, including health, should ensure proper arrangements to deal with any situation, Gehlot said. He said the

THERE’S RACE TO TAKE CREDIT FOR VICTORY, BUT SPORTS BUDGET NO MORE!

In India, the weather also comes in dis-

guise, playing the mer-ciless game of life and death, the season of Co-rona had just passed and leaving behind all political games, the Olympics is here. The masters of ‘Moment Marketing’ also took on changed postures. They - expert in every sport - also narrated to us on speaker phones that they are as much con-cerned about ‘glamour- less game’ like Hockey as they are about the poor of the country. Once they never got tired of reading ballads about the experts of ball and bat, who get the most endorsements, and today their eyes are fixed on sports like Box-ing, Weight lifting, and

Hockey. The players only wanted to know from the government, when the government’s trust on the players was rising, then why was the sports budget for 2021-22 cut by Rs 230.78 crore?

NAVEEN PATNAIK’S HOCKEY CONNECTION AND DOON SCHOOL

A t a time when there is a political race

everywhere to take credit for the Olympic journey of Hockey, es-pecially women’s Hock-ey, here comes a tweet from India’s Women’s Hockey team’s captain Rani Rampal wherein, she congratulates and thanks Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik saying ‘Our Tokyo Olympics journey would not have been complete without your help and guid-ance’. When India Compa-ny’s ups and downs came, the Chief Min-ister accepted to sponsor In-d i a ’ s

women’s and men’s hockey team for the next five years with an amount of more than Rs 100 crore. Odisha will also host the Hock-ey World Cup to be held in 2023. These games will be held in Bhu-baneswar and Rourke-la. The state govern-ment is also construct-ing a state-of-the-art stadium at Rourkela at a cost of Rs 120 crore. This year, the Odisha government has also in-creased its sports budg-et from Rs 265 crore to Rs 370 crore. Of course, Hockey India has got a new leader in the form of Naveen Patnaik, who is giving a new sky to Indian Hockey.

RAHUL BUSY IN PERSUADING

THE OFFENDED!

R ahul Gan-dhi is in

the process of getting his old loyal friends

back in C o n -

gress. Former Jharkhand Congress President Ajay Kumar is the latest example of this. Former IPS officer Kumar was an MP from Jamshedpur in the 15th LS, but during the last Jharkhand Assembly elections in August 2019, he left Congress in anger. Rahul brought him back to the party. Ashok Tanwar, the young Dalit face of Har-yana, served as state president for about six years & had to leave the party after confronta-tion with Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Rahul doesn’t want to waste the talent of the leader & wants to bring Tan-war back regardless of Hooda’s displeasure. Sources reveal that Ra-hul has also spoken to Naveen Jindal and Milind Deora, who are ready to join BJP, and wants to g i v e

some significant re-sponsibility. Sachin Pi-lot can get a big respon-sibility in coming months. It remains to be seen whether this new strategy of Rahul is a well thought out part of ‘Plan PK’?

THIS ASTROLOGER HAD TOLD ABOUT COVID IN 2019 ITSELF

A fter giving 26 years of his life to the

top intelligence agen-cies of India, one day, he took VRS and start-ed counting the planets and constellations. This astrologer predicted on February 19, 2019 that by 2020, the world would be suffering from a new strange disease, which

would later take the form of an

epidemic. His fellow astrol-ogers had also laughed

at Rajesh Hasi-ja’s predic-

tion, but to-day they are forced

to hide their faces be-hind a mask. Regarding the political future of Mamata Banerjee, Hasija said that there is no sign of her becom-ing PM. Hasija’s predic-tions about India are a bit intimidating. He cautions that in late Oc-tober & early Novem-ber, be ready to take all precautions against Covid, because if the enemy is to be defeated, then one has to be simi-larly aware about it.

DIDI KA RAHUL MANIA

When Rahul Gan-dhi marched to

join Kisan Sansad, he was the pivot of the op-position unity, along with other MPs from 13 parties, one of them was T M C ’ s Sukhen-du Shek-har Rai. But it seems in the middle of the

march till Jantar Man-tar, Rai got a call from Didi and he secretly got out of it. When asked by the journalists, Rai clarified that he had an earlier commitment. It seems that Rahul’s character is still not be-ing liked by Didi.

WHAT IS IN PK’S BLUE PRINT?

Prashant Kishor is an astrologer of the

changing political cli-mate of India, who knows the skill of giv-ing words to the form-less aspirations of the voters. In the past, he has submitted a dossier about future of Con-gress to the Gandhi fam-ily. It is possible that in coming days, the Gan-dhi family will behave according to this blue print of PK. When 23 an-gry senior leaders of the party wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi, they strongly demanded that the 9-member parlia-mentary board of the party should be re-in-stated with immediate effect. Apart from So-

nia, Rahul, Priyanka, he sees himself in

this committee and also wants to keep the or-ganisation gen-eral secretary of the party in it.

The Rahul-Priyan-

ka pair is convinced of PK’s strategic and elec-toral acumen, but PK’s arrival has increased problems of leaders like AK Antony, Kamal Nath, Ashok Gehlot, P Chidambaram. These leaders have told Sonia that PK’s over-ambition can sink the Congress. These leaders have sug-gested to Sonia that if PK really has so much power, then he should be sent to Bihar to revive Congress there & be-come CM. But the old Congressmen should not take PK so lightly.

...AND FINALLY

Demanding caste-based census, JDU’s

National President Lal-lan Singh, Apna Dal’s (Sonewal) Anupriya Pa-tel, RPI’s Ramdas Atha-wale met number two Amit Shah & submitted a memorandum. Lallan said ‘we have also at-tached ‘Resolution Bill’ of Bihar Legislative As-sembly with memo. This bill has support of state BJP MLAs. If BJP is ready for caste based census in Bihar, then what’s problem in Delhi-UP? Could anyone dare to ask such questions to number 2 of govern-ment? Has the confi-dence of government ‘decreased’ or has the spirits of allies ‘in-creased?’

In November 2019, the

Bharatpur: A meet-ing of local body rep-resentatives and ad-ministrative officials of Bharatpur divi-sion was held in the district on Saturday to assess prepara-tions of the state gov-ernment’s much-touted campaign ‘Prashashan Shah-ron Ke Sang.’ In the meeting chaired by Urban Development and Housing Minis-ter Shanti Dhariwal, it was deliberated that more land plots will be given to peo-ple on lease as a part of the campaign.

Local MLA and Minister Subhash Garg, UDH Advisor GS Sandhu, Princi-pal Secretary Kun-jilal Meena, Chief Town Planner RK Vijayvargiya and other top officials were present in the meeting along with local body represent-atives.

Dhariwal said that for the success of the

campaign, it is neces-sary that the public representatives and administrative offi-cials work together with commitment.

The minister fur-ther added that the matter of regulation of the colonies situ-ated on temple lands is sensitive and it will be discussed at the cabinet level. The local bodies should get such colo-nies surveyed as a part of their prepa-rations. Lands be-longing to temples are called ‘mafi lands’ in the revenue records and the con-version of such lands for any pur-pose has largely been a ‘no-go’ area in the state.

Principal Secre-tary, UDH, Kunjilal Meena said public r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s should also convene such meetings in their local bodies to find ways of distrib-uting more land on lease among local residents.

Polo is a horseback ball game, a traditional field sport and a representation of roy-als. Polo, the legendary game displays a sharp intent of stallions honing their skills, the riders nurturing with each game and taking over chukkers on chukkers. While the sport of polo is older than

recorded history, we know that its origins are in the in-spirational relationship be-tween humans and horses, though it was played on ele-phants and camels too. This special bond and the unique blending of athletic talents between horse and rider have helped polo evolve into The Sport of Kings.

The origin of polo hap-pened in India, when the Brit-ish came in they modernised the game and it travelled all around the world.

Indians dominated the

sport till the 1900s. Modern polo has 4 players playing on each side, with 4 chukkers of seven minutes. A play-er usually keeps 6/8 horses per game as they usually don’t play the horse for more than 7 to 8 minutes.

ABOUT FINANCIAL

MATTERS AND PERSONAL

AFFAIRS!

ARIESMAR 21 - APR 20

Cool your jets as the week begins -- competitively speaking, that is. You need to put the proverbial ‘other guy’ fi rst on Monday if you want to keep things copacetic. On Tuesday and Wednesday, expect to become lost in your own thoughts. You’ve got a lot on your mind right now, but a little opportune introversion could be just what you need. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, you’ll be at your adventurous, assertive best, ready for anything and fi rst at the starting line. Later on Saturday and on into Sunday, others will help you get ahead in unexpected ways.

TAURUSAPR 21 - MAY 20

Look for some unexpected fun in your routine as the week begins. Monday might seem dull and dreary, but count on friends and coworkers to come to the rescue. On Tuesday and Wednesday, moodiness might get the better of you if you’re not careful. Make sure you keep a lid on any overly intense emotions (especially jealousy and possessiveness). On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, use charm to get your ideas across -- especially if it means persuading those who don’t share your point of view. Later on weekend, you will fi nd enlightenment.

GEMINI MAY 21 - JUNE 21

Follow-through is overrated as this week begins. You’ve got so much energy and creativity on Monday that you need to devote yourself to starting projects and initiating action. Let somebody else sort out the details later. On Tuesday and Wednesday, count on the action to slow down just a bit, but that’s only because you’re more interested in observing -- and analyzing -- than acting right now. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, don’t be too dogmatic. You can get your point across much more charmingly (and persuasively, too).

LEOJULY 24 - AUGUST 23

You’re feeling exceptionally generous with your affection and attention as the week begins and that’s a good thing. Your warmth and earnestness could help others accomplish a lot on Monday and you can expect to receive that same support returned to you in the days ahead. From Monday evening through Wednesday, you’re the centre of attention and no effort of yours will go unaided. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, take time to reassess your long-term plans and strategies. On Saturday night and Sunday, focus on your friends.

VIRGO AUG 24 - SEP 23

Start your week off by organizing something social and fun. That group energy can leave you feeling revved up on Monday and ready for anything. From Monday evening through Wednesday, you might start to feel overwhelmed by pesky details, but don’t despair -- with a little fl exibility, you can help yourself and others get organized. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, everything will start to click into place and make sense. Use your insights to get a lot done (and to help others do the same). For the rest of the weekend, look for opportunities to dig.

CANCER JUNE 22 - JULY 23

Expect your week to begin on an enthusiastic, energetic note. You’ll have no shortage of drive or direction on Monday and others will pitch in to help you accomplish anything you put your mind to. That extravagant energy should carry you well through Wednesday -- so don’t be bashful about taking risks right now. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, see to the details and focus on accomplishing smaller tasks. On Saturday evening and Sunday, watch for threats to your domestic bliss. Deploy a full-scale diplomatic effort.

LIBRA SEPT 24 - OCTOBER 22

Keep your head down as the week begins. Events will conspire to disrupt your routine on Monday, but your easygoing nature (with an added dose of fl exibility) can steer you clear. From Monday evening through Wednesday, others will look to you to take the lead, so be generous with your ideas and your optimistic attitude. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, look for opportunities to hang out with friends (and, especially, to be a good listener and confi dante). Late Saturday and Sunday fi nd you extraordinarily charismatic and energetic and fl irtatious, too!

SCORPIOOCT 23 - NOVEMBER 22

As the week begins, don’t be bashful about going after what you want. Monday should provide perfect opportunities for you to fulfi l ambitions (and maybe even dream up some new ones). From Monday evening through Wednesday, you need to curb your ego if you want to avoid getting entangled in an unwelcome power struggle. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, spend time with good friends. Not only will you have fun, but you’ll also probably learn a secret or two, too. On Saturday night and Sunday, relax and let your subconscious help you work.

SAGITTARIUS NOV 23 - DEC 22

Follow your inquisitive mood as the week begins, even if it means asking tough questions. Monday begins with you digging in deep and looking for answers, but by Monday evening -- and on through Wednesday -- you’ll be back to your freewheeling, happy-go-lucky self. Luck is on your side and you should take every attractive risk that comes along. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, you’ll need to be a little more cautious with details and the demands of others, but that need should evaporate again by late Saturday when you become the one with answers.

CAPRICORNDEC 23 - JAN 20

There’s a change in the air as the week begins. Watch out for new -- and challenging -- ideas on Monday. Even if others overreact, though, don’t take any of the resulting debate personally. From late Monday and on through Wednesday, emotions could keep running high. You’ll need to summon up your best diplomatic skills to mediate. From Thursday through early Saturday, your extraordinary planning skills and command of the facts will earn you applause, possibly from someone far away. On late Saturday and Sunday, focus on getting a lot done.

AQUARIUS JAN 21 - FEB 19

Don’t get riled up as the week begins! Everything might not be going your way on Monday, but take a deep breath and realize this is just a phase. By late Monday and continuing on through Wednesday, sudden shifts could change your current outlook completely, so don’t hesitate to experiment and seek out bold, new discoveries. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, you’ll need to take extra care in dealing with details and competing agendas -- especially anything that involves business or fi nances. On late Saturday and Sunday, fi nd time to meet someone.

PISCES FEB20 - MARCH 20

Celebrate the start of your week by creating something new -- whether it’s a new breakfast, a new friendship or even a new theme song. Your week could get more diffi cult later on Monday (and on through Wednesday), as complicating details threaten to overwhelm. If you can keep your head down, though, you can resist getting swept up in the demands -- and dramas -- of others. On Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, jump into action and don’t worry about having all the facts fi rst. On late Saturday and Sunday, try to collect on debts in a partnership.
