easy to car r y in a lmos t ever y occasion, the most interest ing i s t h e L i l l e , a s m a l l f o l d e r designed by Jesper Voxnaes. T h e m a i n t r a i t i s , w i t h o u t a doubt , the ample cur ve of the blade, that is actually the mean by which the Danish des igner managed to make a little magic: offer a cutting area longer than t h e b l a d e i t s e l f . Folders of small dimensions often lead to accept many compromises when it comes to their use. The new Viper Lille represents a welcome exception: even with its small hindrances, it offers

everything you look for in a urban context by Giorgio Alessandri

1. When closed, the Lille becomes very small, so much so you may forget you are carrying it in the pocket. The only protrusion is the appendix of the flipper, that works exceptionally well

The new Viper Lille, designed by Jesper Voxnaes, is a little jewel to have always in the pocket, it won't disappoint even under a performance point of view

The Li l le has an opening hole which rare ly wi l l be used: the flipper system mounted on ball-bearings functions nothing less than impeccably. 3. The clip is deep, and secured to the rear spacer by a single rounded head screw, being curve, it’s impossible to mount it on the opposite side

for the l i t t le f inger. The feeling is of maximum control , mainly f o r t h e d e e p i n d e x g r o o v e and the smal l knurl ing on the sp ine, that at a f i r s t look may look like an embellishment, but i t ' s fur ther appreciated as we need to push a l i t t le more by resting the thumb on it. It is not to be underest imated also the possibility of holding the blade

1. From the top: Fact, Grizzly Ridge and Proper have different destinations of use, that determined the deep differences in their designs. They share the great quality of construction; thanks to the destination of use classification, the Benchmade client won't get lost in the huge catalog: the military will choose the Black class, the

Thanks to the classifications of its catalog, and notwithstanding the more than ample choice of products by Benchmade, the enthusiast will never end up confused. Whether a military

Ser ies to guess i t s dest inat ion of use: the spear point blade is narrow and very pointy, beveled almost l ike a dagger i t betrays i t s combat ive nature, and jus t t o h i g h l i g h t i t s ch a ra c t e r we have chosen the ver s ion wi th t h e b l a ck c o a t i n g , e v e n i f a l i t t l e m o r e p r i c i e r t h a n t h e sat in one. The clip, that can be positioned on the right or on the left at the end of the handle, i s made of stainless steel, and is shaped so to let the folder disappear in the pocket . For a quick extract ion, it would be advisable to secure

a piece of paracord to the clip o r t o t h e r e a r s p a c e r, a s t h e blade remains quite distant.

Grizzly RidgeAs the s imi lar name sugges t s , the Gr izz ly Ridge is re lated to the Gr izz ly Creek , wi th whom shares the des ign, but not the wood scales and the extractable gut hook.Like the model i t der ives from,

it belongs to the hunting series of the American behemoth, but due to i t s d imens ions - qu i te appropriate - and the versatility of the drop point wi th a pla in cutting-edge, i t would be a pity to confine it to only the hunting use. 6. The very peculiar scales are highly visible on the Grizzly Ridge: the orange part is in Grivory, and the remain gray part is in a soft anti-slip Versaflex

thing to be kept in mind when resharpening. On the spine, there i s a deta i l t h a t u n d e r l i n e s t h e o r i g i n a l d e s t i n at i o n o f u s e : a s i d e t h e c l a s s i c k n u r l i n g t o r e s t t h e t h u m b, t h e G r i z z ly R i d g e h a s a s e c o n d o n e n e a r t h e t i p , t y p i c a l ly u s e d i n t h e g u t t i n g operations, helping to steer the anter ior par t of the blade with the index f inger.

A g a i n , w e f i n d t h e A x i s m e ch a n i c s , bu t t h i s t i m e i t ' s hosted in a quite bulky handle. The main s t ructure is made of two s tee l p lates on which the scales are mounted. Bu t t h e c o l o r s a r e n o t t h e o n l y

peculiarity of the Grizzly Ridge: the handle of fer s a par t icular feeling at the touch due to the m at e r i a l i t ' s m a d e o f, a s o l i d Grivory for the orange par t and a soft anti-slippery Versaflex for the remaining part. Benchmade decided also to give an original touch by anodiz ing in orange t h e h o u r - g l a s s s p a c e r s a n d o p e n i n g p i n o f t h e b l a d e . To carr y i t you'l l use the black

reversible robust cl ip, that can be secured only on the rear part of the handle, near the lanyard hole. Particular is the fact that the manufacturer decided to have such an opening on the part of the liners left uncovered by the scales: the aesthetic result does not call for a miracle, probably it would have been better to have a nice hole with a orange contour, just like the others.
