What a beautiful continent we live in while traveling through only 1/10th of 1% of North America!Ron Llewellyn

Yes, we have done a lot of traveling and realize that it is just the tip of the iceberg. We are sure many share our love for seeing this beautiful continent we live in. Many of the 461 member units who traveled to Lewisburg, West Virginia for the 35th International Rally in July expressed their pleasure of such a lush, green area. Perhaps that is why it was called Greenbrier County. We have seen green mountains and valleys, sunshine and palms, fall colors in the northeast, mountains that reach the sky and harbor valleys with glacial pools, sand beaches and rolling oceans, waving fields of grain, animals of interesting and unique design…the list goes on and on.

There is never an end to the road…and the beauty that lies along the way. We hope your road will lead you to Rock Springs, Wyoming for the 36th Newmar Kountry Klub International Rally next July. Your travels will take many of you through some new territory with new sights and new adventures. There are many changes taking place at the rally in 2022. Everyone is pleased to know we will all have 50-amp FHU service. Every location has it plus and minuses, but this is a real winner for all. But before you get too comfortable, please note that the sewer, water and electric hookups are on average forty feet from your unit. Bring those extra hoses and electric cords. Another item to note is that although many sites are quite level, some will require material to assure a comfortable, level site.

In addition, the length of your unit will determine your location. The Sweetwater Event Complex has over 1,200 sites and we will be using two of their three campgrounds. Any early arrivals will be using the third campground until their arrival time unless you are coming in one day early and will be boondocking for the night. More details will be available when you register for the rally.

This year we will not be coordinating tours for our attendees. The Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism Center will provide a day long bus tour of the Flaming Gorge area and a hosted walking tour of Rock Springs. Both opportunities will be coordinated by the Travel and Tourism staff and will be available before and after our rally. This will allow our members to attend activities on the Saturday and Sunday of the beginning of our event. More details will be available in our email newsletter the Happenings, the Klub’s website and the next edition of the Legacy magazine.

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENINGRon & Wanda Llewellyn (16303-L)

In addition, the area allows for many self-guided tours, attractions and fun activities. Wild horses, petroglyphs, sand dunes and more are available to get you up close and personal with the area. Visit www.tourwyoming.com for more information. Come in early or stay after our rally by calling the Sweetwater Event Center office at 307-352-6789. Be sure to tell them you will be attending the Newmar Kountry Klub International Rally.

Camp Freightliner will once again be available at the International Rally, but is being provided after the rally on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24, 2022. Those electing to attend the two day Camp Freightliner will register directly with Freightliner once it is posted on their website. As the classes will be held after our rally you will arrange extending your stay direct with the Sweetwater Event Complex. That can be done while at the rally.

Additional information and updates for the International Rally will be available as details are provided.

We thought you would like to know how the Newmar Kountry Klub is growing. As of the beginning of November we have 3,764-unit members. This number does not include all Newmar dealers and corporate staff who have been members since the beginning of the Klub. As the renewed interest in outdoor activities has grown, Winnebago has had a successful year and that extends to all their enterprises included in Winnebago’s portfolio. Although obtaining supplies continues to be a challenge, Newmar has also had a very successful year. This is one of the reasons why our numbers are growing. Another reason is the positive comments posted on many of the Newmar brand Facebook pages. It appears that inviting new owners to join is getting the word out that we have much to offer new owners. Many of these new owners are purchasers of previously owned units. In the past, we have had our own challenges of reaching these new owners. Thank you to all who reach out to these people.

If you have not yet heard, Brian Hazelton, who was appointed the new CEO of Newmar in September has resigned and will be moving to a new career opportunity. We wish him well in his new endeavor. Winnebago is conducting a search to find his replacement.

In addition to planning for the 2022 International Rally in Wyoming, we have been visiting potential rally sites around the country. There are pluses and minuses to every location. We hope to announce a location for the 2023 International rally soon. Watch for this in The Happenings, our email newsletter and future magazine articles. If you are not receiving The Happenings, check your Junk or Spam folder. If found, add us to your contacts and mark ‘not spam.’ If you do not find it, call the office to check your correct email address.

Our special events for 2022 are being advertised and registration for some have begun. Do not hesitate if you want to see some of the beauties of North America. Both Newfoundland and Alaska are being provided in 2022, as well as some returning events and some new opportunities. This is an exciting time for all of us to travel, see the sights, and most importantly, make new friends.

Although we would all like to see the pandemic resolved, it will be with us for a while. In all our activities, we encourage you to participate in safe health practices.

So, for now, we bid you adieu…and be safe out there!Ron and Wanda

Looking back over 2021 it is great to see so many activities and events that have been scheduled and enjoyed by our members. Most were sold out, or very close to it, at the time the rallies and larger special events were held. The articles in in this issue are full of great memories of recent events as well as exciting details on what’s coming up. We’d like to take this time to thank our Region/State/Provincial Directors, Chapter Officers, all the many volunteers and you, the members, for making this all happen! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Looking forward into 2022, we are seeing and hearing of quite a bit of interest for the upcoming special events. As we write these articles a good month before you read them, we would have had Newfoundland already open for reservations as you are reading this. Per my crystal ball (and your inquiries), I believe it sold out very quickly. We also have three other special events opening in December and early January including the Black Hills Rally, Alaska Caravan and Taste of the West Caravan. Details on these events can be found elsewhere in this issue as well as on our website newmarkountryklub.com thru the Klub

Calendar menu option. Remember all reservations are to be made online. This is very easy to do. Simply go to our website, click on Klub Calendar, then in the drop down box click the event you want to register for. Fill out the form, add your credit card payment information and hit submit. Once it is submitted, you will receive an automated reply.

Once an event is sold out we always have a standby list to fill any cancellations. So if you are interested just drop us an email [email protected] or give us a call 877-639-5582 and we can add you to the particular list you are interested in.

Your Klub Directors, Ron & Wanda Llewellyn, are working hard on the final details of the 2022 International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Rally dates will be Saturday, July 16 with departure on Saturday, July 23. You will have the option to arrive a day early Friday, July 16 to be parked. We will once again offer boondocking the night before your set arrival date. See a brief editorial elsewhere on the International Rally.

Just a reminder we are able to hold alternating addresses and automatically switch your mailing address per dates you provide. If you are a snowbird in a repeating location be sure to let us know so we can keep your membership information up to date.

And speaking of memberships…be sure to check the address label on this issue as it will indicate your membership expiration date. If it shows 12-31-21, and you have not recently renewed, please go to our website or see the renewal form found on page 36 of this issue to keep the fun going with your Kountry Klub family. Once again, we have been able to hold the pricing on both the membership and subscription to the Legacy Magazine.

In closing both DeAnn and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday season. May you be able to celebrate the Christmas, Hanukah and the New Year’s holidays with your family and friends.

KOUNTRY KORNER RECIPES

It is tradition that the Klub office shares some of their favorite recipes in the December issue. Once again, and totally unplanned, we are all showing our sweet tooth for the holidays! We hope you enjoy. Have a wonderful holiday season.

TEMPTING PECAN OR WALNUT PIEIngredients:4 eggs1 lb. light brown sugar¾ cup water¼ cup soft butter1 teaspoon vanilla extractPecan or Walnut chips & halves

Directions:Heat oven to 350 degrees.Combine sugar and water in 2 qt. saucepan. Place over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring to full boil, cook 3 minutes. Add syrup to beaten eggs a little at a time (you do not want to curdle the eggs). Blend in butter and vanilla extract. Add pecans or walnuts. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Cover pie crust edges with foil if it begins to brown too soon. Pie filling will raise during baking.

This is traditionally a Pecan Pie recipe. We prefer to use walnuts as they are a firmer nut when cooked.

Wanda Llewellyn (16303-L) International Director

In a large bowl, combine oats, almonds, cinnamon, and salt. Mix in diced peaches, milk, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla, and almond extract. Stir in coconut oil until all ingredients are well combined.

Bake 30-40 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes and enjoy.

Linda Feece, Klub Coordinator

Peanut Butter Sauce:1/2 cup honey1/3 cup granulated sugar1/2 cup creamy peanut butter1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

10 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022

There are many new members in the Kountry Klub and we know that not all of you were able to attend the International Rally in West Virginia. That being the case, we would take a few moments and explain our position as the Members-at-

Large for the Newmar Kountry Klub.

One of our roles is as a public relations team for the Kountry Klub. Our focus is to talk to members from the Klub, gather information and suggestions and develop suggested recommendations for review by the Kountry Klub Board of Directors and the International Directors. In short; we gather your ideas and suggestions and pass them on to the Board of Directors. We do this by attending as many rallies as we can throughout the US and Canada and talk to as many members as possible so we can hear your ideas.

We take this very serious and want to hear from all of our members. No Klub or organization is perfect. Times change, people change and traveling changes. So we ask how can we make this the best Klub in the RV owner’s group world? No subject is off limits or too small.

Some of the items we have brought to the International Directors and board are behind the scene items, having to do with computer glitches in registering for rallies such as Rally Hosts not getting notified of a registration, these type of items have been take care of quickly. Other items requested are in the works and taking a bit more time to implement, such as getting the Klub store online for members to order Klub merchandise.

We have had suggestions to include a ‘Tech’ talk at the International Rally for coaches older than 10 years, often referred to as the ‘Legacy Coaches’. Newmar builds rigs that are still on the road 15 and 20+ years after they rolled off the manufacturing floor and their needs are far different that the new all electric coaches. The Tech talk has been successful and most welcomed by owners at the rally.

Klub officers around the US and Canada asked for more direction and training, as well as an opportunity to meet

other officers, training and roundtables are now held at International and are evolving each year.

This is your Klub, it does not belong to the Board of Directors or any one individual or group of people. What can we do to make your experience in the Klub better?

We are honored to be your voice to the board and look forward to talking to you. If you have ideas or suggestions you do not need to wait until you see us at a rally, you can reach us directly by using the contact information attached to this article.

As 2021 draws to a close, we have to say it has been wonderful attending rallies and seeing our Newmar family and friends. We would like to recognize all the members who have stepped up to volunteer at their local rallies. A thank you to all Chapter officers, State and Provincial Directors and all Regional Directors who give so much of their time. It is because of all of you we have a Klub that runs as smoothly as it does.

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” ~ Michael Altshuler.

How are you spending your time this winter? What plans do you have for the holidays? Have you started dreaming

about the places you’ll go in 2022?

We are spending the winter in Central Florida and hope to travel to Holly Springs, North Carolina and Hilton Head Island to spend time with the kids and grandkids. Our younger daughter is building a home in Holly Springs, and they plan to move in Christmas week. With a seven and five year old, that seems ambitious! Our other daughter and family are renting a house in Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island for their Christmas week and will be traveling from Indianapolis for a break in warmer weather. It will be great to see our family and celebrate.

As we write this, it’s Halloween week but by the time you read it, we will be starting our HOLLY JOLLY RALLY at Creekside RV Resort in Punta Gorda, Florida December 5-9. Our co-hosts, Chapter Vice President Hal & Lynn Fryer, have been instrumental in planning this event and we are so grateful for their help. We have 50 people signed up to attend and join us on a Harbor Cruise to view holiday lights and a Swamp Buggy Eco Tour, in addition to meals and activities at the campground. We are also planning an evening of entertainment and Christmas Caroling. Our Humanitarian cause for this rally will be the Charlotte County Shop with a Cop program. We would like to thank and acknowledge North Trail RV in Ft. Myers for supporting our rally with gifts, prizes and for bringing out Newmar units for us to tour. We are hoping to make this an annual event for our chapter.

If you are attending the Tampa Supershow Special Event with the Newmar group, we would like to invite you to join us for a Fulltimers Chapter get together. We have not been assigned a day or time for the social, so look for notices at the Newmar tent with details on time and date. This is open to all current Fulltimers Chapter members, and anyone interested in learning more about us or the Fulltiming lifestyle.

In February, we hope to host a social at our winter place at Mt. Olive Shores North in Polk City, Florida. We held this event in 2018 and 2019 with good turnouts. All Newmar

FULLTIMERS CHAPTERTom & Roni Lehmkuhl (20913)

owners are invited to a luncheon hosted by the Fulltimers Chapter. If you are in the area, please plan to join us at the cookout. Tentative date is February 10, at 2:00 PM. Check the NKK Calendar for more details.

2022 FULLTIMERS RALLY AND ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING This rally will be held in Heber City, Utah July 10-15, before the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We have reserved 60 sites and registrations will take place through the NKK Website in February 2022. The rally will be held at Mountain Valley RV Resort. We are looking into venues and activities in the area. We do plan to have a trip and dinner on the Heber Valley Railroad and a tour and tasting of the Artisan cheese factory. We’d love to hear your recommendations. As you well know, the NKK International Rally will be held the next week in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We always have a good turnout of chapter members at the International and we will once again be offering lemonade and popcorn to attendees and hope to present seminars.

We personally are planning our trip out west for the rallies and hope to visit places we’ve missed on previous western excursions. High on the list of places to see for the first time are Capital Reef National Park, Crater Lake and the Redwoods. We can’t wait to get on the road again. It seems the more of this country we see, the more we find that we haven’t seen yet and the bucket list gets longer and longer.

If your travels take you anywhere near Central Florida this winter, stop in and see us. We have access to full hookup sites for a couple days if you want to stay over.

Wishing you and those you love a peaceful, healthy and happy holiday season.

Join the Fulltimers Chapter by accessing the application form from the Fulltimers web page at www.newmarkountryklub.com or contact Tom & Barbara Palmer at [email protected]

Happy holidays to all our Newmar Kountry Klub friends. We’ve had a full year of travel, rallies, excursions, and breaking bread with our NKK family. We attended the rallies for California State, New Mexico State/Chile Pepper Chapter, Arizona State and Sun Catchers Chapter, the International Rally in West Virginia, and tried to attend the Nevada State/Mother Lode Chapter rally but

a fuel injector had other ideas. Throughout our travels we meet with some of the nicest, most welcoming travelers. How fortunate we are to be able to enjoy the Newmar RV lifestyle. We’re looking forward to a full calendar already on the books for 2022.• January-March 1st Tuesday of the month - Yuma Newmar Owners Luncheon• January 19-24 The Gathering in the Desert in Quartzsite, Arizona• February 21-25 California State Rally in Chula Vista, California• March 4-7 California Golden Aires Rally in Temecula, California• April 1-5 Arizona Sun Catchers Rally in Casa Grande, Arizona• April 24-28 California 49ers Rally in Monterey, California• July 16-23 The International Rally in Rock Spring, Wyoming• September 26-30 California Golden Bears Rally in Jackson, California

Remember to check on the Newmar Kountry Klub website as well as the Legacy Calendar for new rallies added to the schedule.

The International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming is about as far west as it’ll ever get, so we expect to see a large contingent of Region 1 members there. Check your calendars and clear those dates for a fulfilling week of entertainment, education, excursions, shopping, and making new friends.

We can be reached at email [email protected] or cell 805-459-1653.

ARIZONA Duane Paige & Laurie Hunt (21070)Arizona State DirectorsHello Newmar friends! We are the brand-new Arizona State Directors having just taken over from long time Arizona State Directors, Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes. Ted & Ruth Ann deserve huge accolades for all that they have done for the Newmar Kountry Klub in Arizona as well as all around the country. The past three years in the fall they have hosted the NKK Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Every January, with great passion, they have held The Gathering in the Desert at Quartzsite for as many years as we have owned a Newmar and then some. This January will be their swan song to Quartzsite and RVing. After that they intend to sell their motorhome and take up residence in New Jersey near family. We wish them only and all the best in every endeavor in the future, which includes popping into a rally if they find themselves in the area. Our welcome mat will always be out!

As we move fully into our new role, our goal is to be on the road visiting and attending as many rallies as possible. We already have several on the calendar around Region 1 and of course the 2022 International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We also look forward to, as always, supporting the Arizona Sun Catchers any way we can as they plan and host their

rally in Casa Grande, Arizona, April 1-5. Over the next few months we will be planning the next Arizona State Rally so stay tuned for more information on that in the future.

Of course, the best part of the Newmar Kountry Klub is getting to regularly hang out with old friends while always meeting new ones along the way. We very much look forward to seeing you somewhere in our travels! We can be reached at email [email protected], or cell 248-933-1405.

ARIZONA SUN CATCHERSJeff & Linda Leinwand (21388)Where has 2021 gone? It was so good to start getting back to some semblance of normal. We finally were able to hold a rally in March. Even with meals and activities outside, we were just thankful that the weather cooperated so we could spend time with old friends we hadn’t seen the year before, and welcome new friends to the Sun Catchers and Kountry Klub.

It was good to see rallies happening across the country and have the Sun Catchers representing Arizona at the International in West Virginia. The year has wrapped up with three very successful consecutive rallies—the Arizona State Rally in Casa Grande, the Region 1 Rally in Benson, and the Nevada State/Mother Lode Rally at Lake Meade.

As the year ends, we are saying good-bye to our long-time State Directors, Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes. Their hard work (along with Ruth Ann’s cooking) has made the Gathering in the Desert (Quartzsite), the Special Event Balloon Fiesta, and our Arizona State Rallies the successes they are today. They will be missed! We wish them the best of health and happiness as they embark on the next adventure in life. We are now looking forward to working with our new State Directors, Laurie Hunt & Duane Paige. Having worked with them as our Chapter Presidents, we know they will do a great job.

Be sure to check the NKK calendar for more info on our next Sun Catcher Chapter Rally, April 1-5 at Palm Creek RV Resort in Casa Grande, Arizona. Activities in the works include a visit to a dwarf car museum, a dairy farm, and a “Night of Mystery” (Trailer Park Tragedy). We might even learn a new cooking technique to use on our RV travels.

We wish you all Safe travels this Holiday Season, and a very Healthy and Happy New Year.

CALIFORNIARobert & Teresa Solomon-Billings (21765)California State DirectorsBob & I are returning from Churchill, Canada, we are currently in Utah, heading south to warmer weather as quickly as possible. Canada did not disappoint, it is a beautiful country, with many things to do and see. We were able to leave our motorhome in Winnipeg and fly to Churchill, to see the polar bears and the Aurora Borealis. We highly recommend traveling in Canada, and maybe joining one of our Canadian regions for a rally.

We would like to welcome our new officers to the Golden Bear’s; President Jeannette Covington and Vice President Gene Rossi, we appreciate your volunteering for these positions. As Helen Keller said “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Thank you for volunteering and welcome!

The California State Rally is in February 2022, we originally had reservations for 25 coaches, and we quickly filled up. We were able to work with the park and added 5 more coaches, but this will be our

maximum allowed. We have a small wait list, if you interested in adding to the wait list please give us a call 951-634-8065. Last year everyone on the wait list ended up at the rally. You just never know, circumstances change, and openings happen.

GOLDEN AIRESKen & Leah Wilson (20332)PresidentsGreetings from Southern California. We are attending three back-to-back rallies. The first was the Arizona State Rally that was hosted by Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes. As usual they put on a fantastic rally. We are now heading to the second rally, Region 1’s Rally in Benson, Arizona, hosted by Larry & Mary Roberts. The third and last, will be the Nevada State/Mother Lode Chapter Rally hosted by George & Cheryl Zellers and Mike & Mickey Fisher.

While traveling to a rally this year, in our 2007 Dutch Star we had a rear air bag fail and lose air. The air bag had cracks in it and was unable to be driven due to the angle of the driveshaft. It was the 4th of July weekend. We were hot and sitting in a truck stop. It was very hard to find and get air bags for our Spartan chassis. We were able to get air bags for the rear of our coach the next day, and continued our trip. As soon as we returned home, we had the front air bags replaced. Lesson learned: Just like tires, air bags will age out and fail. It is worth going underneath and inspecting them occasionally.

The California Golden Aires will be hosting a 3-day rally starting March 4-7 at the Pechanga RV Resort in Temecula, California.

White clouds and safe travels to you all. We can be reached at email [email protected], or cell 951-239-9224.

GOLDEN BEARSJeanette Covington (22743) PresidentHello Fellow Kountry Klub & Golden Bears members. Let me introduce myself. I am your new president, Jeanette Covington. I live in Madera Ranchos and have owned a Newmar motorhome since 2003. My husband & I were fortunate enough to travel across the United States and into Canada during the summers for 15 years. I am a retired instructor from Fresno City College and currently am subbing for our local school district. I also have a crafts studio which is exciting to see individuals come in and be creative and have fun.

The Golden Bears 2022 Rally is being planned as we speak. We will be rallying Monday, September 26-Friday, September 30. Once again, we will be at Jackson Rancheria RV Park which is located at 1224 New York Ranch Rd., Jackson, CA 95642. The rally cost will be determined very shortly once Lee & I work out some financing. We will let you know as soon as we can. Once you sign up for the rally, I will have your contact information, and I will get back to you in a timely manner.

The 2021 raffle for charity was a great success. Once again, we are asking everyone who is coming, please bring a raffle prize per coach in the $30-40 value range to donate to our raffle. All proceeds from the raffle be donated to a charity which the Golden Bears vote on at the rally. You will be served four breakfasts and four dinners. Particulars will come in the next newsletter. You will be asked to bring a favorite dish in the fashion of this past year for one of our meals. It is always so great to share and taste the works of others.

At this time, we have secured one band and are auditioning for another. The Putting Green Challenge was so much fun, coming from someone

who had never golfed. We will be offering the cornhole competition once again with some changes. I will be offering another craft morning. We will make a cute porch sign of a snowman on one side and a scarecrow on the other. You don’t have to be an artist because I will have templates to follow. It’s just simple FUN!! I have arranged with Janie from The Biggest Little Kitchen Store to come during one of our Social Hours. She has an activity that we can win prizes from the store. What a deal!! I look forward to seeing all of you in September; we will have fantastic time!

I can be reached at email [email protected], or cell 559-824-6336.

CALIFORNIA 49ERSTom & Nancy Wills (22585)PresidentsAs you read this the Holiday Season will be upon us so Nancy & I wish all of you a safe and happy holiday!

We are currently in Wickenburg, Arizona on our way to the Nevada State Rally. We are getting there after attending two fun rallies. We attended our first Arizona State Rally in Pinal County, Arizona. We met old friends and several new ones as well as an informative tour of a cotton farm and of all things a Gourd Farm. Ted & Ruth Ann were great hosts and as they step down, they will be truly missed. Their replacements have a lot to live up to but after meeting Duane & Laurie, I am sure Arizona is in good shape.

After that we left for Benson, Arizona to attend the Region 1 Rally where we visited a cavern and had a look at our galaxy through a large 16” telescope that was at the park.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars to attend the California 49ers rally in beautiful Monterey, California from April 24-28. Better yet go online to the Newmar Kountry Klub website and sign up now. As I write this we are sold out. Don’t despair, because as we all know “life happens” so there is a waiting list.

We can be reached at email: [email protected] or by cell at 408-839-2218.

COLORADO Pat & Marilyn Gaffney (22216)Colorado State DirectorsIt is that time of year in Colorado. The colors have turned and this year it appears to us to be more colorful than the recent past. The ghosts and goblins are planning for their “time”. It looks like most of us will be able to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends. Oh, forgot to mention we just had our first snow!

We hope everyone had a great RV season and were able to get out and put 2020 way back in the rearview mirror. 2022 will be even better than 2021 except maybe for the price of fuel. Two rallies are planned for the coming year. The Krusin Aires will host the first in Ft. Collins at the KOA in June and the State Rally will be held in Colorado Springs at the KOA in September. There will be 15 spaces available at each. Reservations will be available after the first of the year. We wish all a happy holiday season and hope to see many of you next year if not before then. We can be reached at email [email protected] or cell 719-488-0618 or 719-331-2817.

COLORADO KRUSIN AIRESChuck & Lynda Gumeson (22459)PresidentsFrom our windows here in Centennial, Colorado, we are enjoying the bright colors of our changing season. It is truly beautiful! And we are looking forward to Thanksgiving in just a short month from now.

15DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

As this is written we have planned a luncheon to gather our fellow Kruisin Aires on November 13th in Castle Rock at a little restaurant called Siena on the Courtyard. We are hoping that lots of our members will be able to attend and share their summer travel stories.

We finished our 2021 travels in Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta where we visited the West RV VIP lot to meet some of the attendees from the Newmar Kountry Klub rally there. It looked like they were enjoying great meals. We in turn dined on funnel cakes and hot dogs over at the event runway! We were too late to sign up to attend the event with the Newmar group, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. It is such a terrific event. We’ll try to sign up next year and perhaps get an opportunity to join the Newmar Kountry Klub rally before it sells out.

We are planning our chapter rally for next June 2022. We will gather at the Fort Collins, Colorado KOA Lakeside from June 13th for three nights. Details will follow. Reservations will start in January and will be need to be made through Lynda & Chuck. We will have the space for fifteen coaches.

We are parked now until early March. Wintertime is an opportunity to “upgrade” and we no doubt will have some fun modifications, and little touch up projects for the Magic Bus. In between work on the coach and our annual trip to Arizona in March, we will be hoping for lots of powder ski days up at the Mary Jane Ski Area in Winter Park.

Watch for us on the road next spring! We can be reached at email: [email protected] Chuck’s cell phone: 303-941-0907 Lynda’s cell phone: 303-907-8211.

NEVADA George & Cheryl Zellers (19163)Nevada State DirectorsSince we last wrote for the Legacy magazine, we have been traveling and enjoying the company of many of our Klub family and meeting new family members. We feel so lucky to be members of such a great group of people.

One point that was driven home was just how much we owe to all those that were members before we joined. We think about the four couples that formed and were charter members of the California Golden Bears. They are Max & Penny Nuttall (12250), Herb & Bev Weinman (5578), Phil & Carmen Caspersen (9971) and Larry & Judy Faller (4621-L).

We along with our co-host Mike & Mickey Fisher (22289) were very proud to have three former California State Directors which were Larry & Mary Roberts, who are now the Region 1 Directors (21041), Larry & Judy Faller (4621-L), and Bob & Barbara Rose (2452) with a new set of opportunities to get together.

It is not too early to plan on attending the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. SEE YOU THERE!!!

Wishing you smooth roads and following winds. We can be reached at email [email protected], or cell 702-810-6690

NEVADA MOTHER LODEMike & Mickey Fisher (22287)PresidentsThe severe wildfire smoke has finally cleared due to the recent wet weather. The main issue now is the threat of rains causing flooding, mud slides and washed-out roads.

The USA Border crossings may be open by now. We hope our Canadian Kountry Klub friends will be able to come down to US rallies and likewise maybe we will be able go up to Canadian rallies.

We attended the NKK Arizona State Rally in Casa Grande, Arizona at the Pinal County Fairgrounds. An informative tour of the Wuertz Gourd Farm and craft shop with many uniquely shaped and painted gourd creations as well as bare gourds were displayed and for sale. The second tour was of Caywood Farms describing Cotton’s long journey from seed to fiber and the residual products of cotton seed and cotton oil. A Hay ride was enjoyed by the participants.

We then went further south to the NKK Region 1 Rally at the Butterfield RV Resort in Benson, Arizona, Benson was a base camp for trips to Kartchner Caverns State Park for a tour as well as to the infamous Tombstone and mining town of Bisbee.

Next, we headed north to the NKK Nevada State/Mother Lode Chapter Joint Rally at Lake Mead RV Village Park in the scenic Lake Mead National Recreational Area. A tour of the Nostalgia Street Rods Museum in Las Vegas was of special interest to most of us because we still remember the 50’s and 60’s.

It is time to plan and sign up for the winter, spring and summer NKK rallies. Check specific rally locations and dates in the NKK Legacy Magazine and on the NKK website to make the most out of your trips and try to link a few rallies if they are not too far apart and the dates are reasonably close.

Mark your calendar:NKK International Rally at the Sweetwater Events Complex, 3320 Yellowstone Road, Rock Springs, WY 82901. Parking Days - July 15 &16 and Rally Dates - July 16-23. Registration opens online on Monday, February 07 @ 8am EST! If you have questions you can email the Klub office [email protected] or call 877-639-5582.

If you travel be safe and be prepared to detour due to high winds, flooding, pot holes, and ever-present road repairs. Prepare your rig and toad accordingly for high or low temperatures.

We can be reached at email [email protected], or cell 775-781-9794.

NEW MEXICO Jim & Lorie Landers (20761) New Mexico State DirectorsLorie & I enjoyed a spectacular Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Newmar event in October. We had five days of extraordinary weather with the balloons coming over our parking site each morning. We were privileged to co-host with Ted & Ruthy Hindes who have passed the hosting duties on to us for 2022. This next year will be the 50th anniversary for the fiesta so if you have this destination on your “bucket list” look for the registration opportunity. We would love to have you join us.

We hope to have two rallies in New Mexico in 2022. A chapter rally (Chile Peppers), and a state rally. Please watch the events calendar for announcements.

Safe travels to all. We can be reached at email [email protected] [email protected], or cell 505-508-9353.

16 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022

We expect that by now, you have your motorhomes safely winterized and tucked away for the winter season or have moved them and yourselves to a warmer climate. Wherever you are spending your holiday season, we hope you have a wonderful time and get to enjoy the company of your friends and loved ones!

Due to some health issues and the tug of family ties, we have settled down in Tennessee for now. Our ‘Loona Lodge’ (Newmar Ventana LE) has been sold to another adventurous couple and we already miss it. We also miss our Newmar friends and the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The foreseeable future will prevent us from getting back west for quite some time. We enjoyed our time in the Newmar Kountry Klub very much and have made some lasting friendships with many of you.

Please consider taking a leadership role within Region 2 as there are many positions needing new management at the Chapter, State and Regional levels. You can contact our International Directors at email: [email protected].

We wish good health and safety to everyone and we hope you will get out to explore and camp during 2022! We live in a very beautiful country!

WASHINGTONBen & Donna Barker (20884)State DirectorsWell, we hope everyone will enjoy a wonderful holiday season with family and friends this season. It is certain to be a change from last holiday season, now that we’re able to actually gather together, what a blessing.

We promised a review of the Washington State Rally that was held in September. So here goes…. We were pleasantly surprised when our neighbors came over and completely washed our motor home on Labor Day so we could travel in style to the rally. What wonderful neighbors.

We had twelve coaches in attendance at Horn Rapids RV Park in Richland, Washington. In addition to Washington members, we had two coaches from Oregon and one from Arizona join us. The weather was perfect, no smoke from wildfires. We were able to spend one day at the Reach Museum, which is a natural history museum with the lower Columbia River as its focus. The museum also includes a large section on the construction of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation that was built during WWII for the development of the A Bomb, also known as the Manhattan Project.

On Saturday, we enjoyed a brunch cruise on the Columbia River that cruised up the part of the river known as the Hanford Reach. Along the way, we enjoyed the beautiful vistas along the river including the White Bluff Banks. Did we mention how wonderful the food on board the ship was? It was a picture-perfect way to spend the day.

REGION 2 // AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY

Outgoing Region Coordinators :: Mark & Lesleyanne Weiss (21042)

On a personal note, the most exciting part of the rally for us was the birth of our first great-grandchild on September 9th, which occurred while we were at the rally. We awoke to a text message that morning that our granddaughter Hailey was in labor, and all of us in attendance

held our breath all day and into the evening waiting for the birth. We went to bed that night with still no baby. We awoke on the next morning to a text message that Colt Allen VanderYacht was born at 10 pm. He was born on great-grandpa Ben’s birthday after all. The best birthday present ever!

We are home for the winter now and making plans for the Washington State Rally in 2022. We are working on a plan that will complement the International Rally in Rock Springs. If we can make it work out, it should be a fun time that you won’t want to miss. More to follow as the plan develops, and we hope that you will be able to join us.

We can be reached at email: [email protected]. Blessings.

EVERGREEN AIRESTerry & Terri Roberts (22978)PresidentsGreetings and Happy Holidays from the Evergreen Aires! We hope you are all enjoying this special time of year and celebrating with family and friends.

As the colder and wetter, winter weather has settled over the Pacific Northwest, we find ourselves thinking about pointing our home on wheels to the south and heading to warmer climates after the holidays. We truly love the holiday season, and there is no place like home for the holidays.

We are now anxious for January to arrive when we get to head to Quartzsite, Arizona to join our Newmar friends for the “Gathering in the Desert”. If you haven’t had the chance to experience this event, we strongly recommend it. Look for details on the Newmar Kountry Klub calendar.

Our summer/fall travels included a big loop around the Great Lakes, then south through the Midwest to Nashville, east to the Carolina coast, down to the panhandle of Florida and then we followed the Gulf coast west to Texas. We finished up in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Balloon Fiesta. We covered over 8,000 miles in 3 months in our Dutch Star before arriving in Arizona where we rested up before heading back to the PNW for the holidays.

It’s time to start planning your 2022 travels and the perfect way to kick off your travels will be to attend the Evergreen Aires Chapter Rally which is set for May 22-26, in Prosser, Washington. Registration will open in February so be sure to check the Newmar Kountry Klub calendar for more details. Please come and join us in beautiful eastern Washington for this rally.

We hope you all have a wonderful and safe Holiday Season! We can be reached at email: [email protected].

John Stegemoller (24669)

I retired in September 2020 after 42 years as an airline pilot. I have landed on 6 of the 7 continents, but it dawned on me as I approached the end of my flying career, I hadn’t seen all of my lower 48 states. So I began making a “flight plan” to visit all of the lower 48 states, the National Park service locations, plenty of wineries and of course, airplane museums. I still gaze at the sky when I see a contrail in the daytime, or at night, watch for the International Space Station as it passes overhead, often times as bright as Venus.

I still fly kites, I fly a drone, and I fly my little airplane - needless to say, I’m enthralled with things that can defy gravity. My most recent gravity-defying event was the Newmar Kountry Klub rally at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. It was my first visit, and to be honest, a single paragraph cannot portray the many shapes and colors, not only in the air, but also on the ground when they fire up their

burners for an “all glow” while the balloons are still tethered to the ground. And once airborne, their silent gliding overhead is a spectacle to take in at least once in your life. If it’s not already on your Bucket List, it should be.

I have many more miles to go, and many more states to see as the Captain of my Dutch Star…as I like to say, I’m trading high and fast for low and slow.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We need your input to continue this column. Do you have a funny RVing story (we have all been there and done that!), a favorite location or campground you have been to, or special memories you have. If so, please share with us. Pictures are welcome; be sure to send them as a .jpg file separate from the article. To submit your story please email us [email protected].

18 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022

The Region 3 Rally was held on September 15-19 in Vidalia, Louisiana, at River View RV Park next to the Mississippi River. Vidalia is just across the

river from Natchez, Mississippi. The area has a wealth of things to do. Hurricane Ida had hit southern Louisiana a few days earlier, but it wasn’t finished. As it meandered on up toward Vidalia, it dumped heavy rain on those of us who came in a day early. We woke up in the middle of the night with wet feet. The heavy wind and rain had found its way in. That problem was temporarily solved by hanging a bucket from the ceiling over the bed. Another pan next to the bed and a salad bowl on the floor in the living room seemed to solve the problem. Although Vidalia was spared by the hurricane, some of the people who planned to attend the rally were not so lucky. One couple was already at the RV park and had to go back home when neighbors called to tell them a tree had fallen on their deck. Another member called to say they wouldn’t be able to come because 50 of their pecan trees had fallen, some of them across fences, which had to be fixed immediately before the cows got out. Fred Walton, the chef for our Welcome Dinner, had lost half of his roof and wasn’t sure if he & Marlyn would be able to come.

The day the rally began, the clouds began to leave, and the weather was good the rest of the time. Fred & Marlyn were able to make it to the rally in spite of having damage to their home. They (along with the help of Carroll & Peggy Thibodeaux) prepared a wonderful Cajun dinner of jambalaya, white beans, salad and French bread. We appreciate them so much for making the effort to be at our rally.

The entertainment for the Welcome Night was comedian Jody Fuller. He was voted one of the fifteen top Southern stand-up comedians that “will make you laugh till you cry”. Our crowd seemed to love him. Like Mel Tillis, Jody has always had a stuttering problem. But, like Mel, he doesn’t let it bother him and was able to use personal stories about his stuttering that kept us in stitches all evening. The trip to Frogmore Plantation, an 1,800-acre working cotton plantation, was one of the highlights of our rally. It included a tour of the slave quarters. The church (with original pews from the 1800’s) was the setting for vocal renditions of songs from that era.

REGION 3 // AR, KS, LA, MO, OK, TX

Region Directors :: Larry & Patsy Wood (12255-L)

Always fun, the beanbag tournament and an ice cream social were held inside the large barn at the RV park. The winners of the beanbag tournament were Don Grutzmacher and Dennis Ryan.

The ladies’ luncheon and tour of Stanton Hall was held on Friday. Some of the men went golfing while the ladies were at lunch. Others participated in the Round Table Discussion that was held back at the RV park.

After dinner on Saturday night, we had a rousing game of card bingo, and door prizes were handed out. We want to thank all of the volunteers who helped in so many ways. With their help, this marks another successful rally in the books. As Anthony Bourdain said, “It seems the more places I go see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of it, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I still have to go, how much more there is to learn.” Safe travels, friends.

ARKANSASJames & Ruth Ann Hairston (17646)Arkansas State DirectorsGreetings fellow Klub members! It’s with mixed emotions I submit this article. My wife, Ruth Ann & I have had a wonderful experience, serving as the Arkansas State Directors for about five years. We have enjoyed visiting new and interesting places, while meeting and developing lasting friendships with many fellow Newmar RV owners. Unfortunately, to quote a familiar cliché, “All good things must come to an end!” The fact is; we have reached the point where we feel a slow-down is warranted and appropriate. We have had an abundance of fun, but it’s time to turn over the reins to the next energetic, gung-ho organizer, talker and walker!

Actually, we aren’t through until the end of December. We’re looking forward to a Christmas Luncheon, to be held at the Wood Grill in Benton, Arkansas on December 4 at 12:00 Noon…so until then, be safe and HAPPY RVING!

KANSASDarrell & Jeanette Wehmeier (22133)Kansas State DirectorsGreetings from Kansas! This past October we had our last gathering for 2021. It was a Drive-In in Council Grove, Kansas at the Hays House. We had a very good turnout of Klub members, former members, and we gained two new members! One member was a transfer from Texas and the other new member read about the Kansas Kountry Sunflowers here and was told about the Klub from the previous Newmar owner. All had a wonderful time. The food was good and the company was outstanding. Special thank you to Larry & Sherry DeWitt (11440-L) for setting this Drive-In up.

The schedule for 2022 kicks off May 19 at Milford State Park in the Eagle Ridge Campground. Make your reservation the third week in December when the program is allowing 2022 reservations. We will email all Kansas Kountry Sunflower members in December with information and where to sign up for the 2022 rallies.

The Kansas Sunflowers are lucky to have so many members step up and host or assist in rallies for 2022. MISSOURIDave & Barb Burtrum (22047)Missouri State DirectorsSeason Greetings! Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year! It was great to get back to somewhat “normal” the last half of this year. We hope each of you had the chance to get out and do some traveling and enjoy being on the road. The Missouri chapter had a couple of events this quarter. First, we had a rally at Coachlight RV Park the end of September with 13 coaches present; it was great to see our members this fall. We also had our annual Luncheon Rally in Carthage as well, attended by 37 members. We had some great BBQ and everyone had a fun time. Our big adventure for the last quarter of the year was the NKK Grand Circle Caravan through SW Colorado and SE Utah. We managed to see several National Parks and other areas all in about three weeks. We were typically at a location for two or three nights, then on to the next sight to see. A whirlwind tour for sure. We met a great group of people and had a very enjoyable time. If you like seeing lots of places in a few weeks and appreciate having all of the details handled by someone else, then we would recommend you look into an NKK caravan.

By the time you read this, I would imagine several of you are either already headed to a warmer location, or are at least getting ready to do so. Remember, if you are heading to Arizona, the “Gathering in the Desert” and the Quartzsite RV show are in January. The RV show is amazing and Ted & Ruthie Hindes do a fantastic job at the “Gathering in the Desert”. Everyone should do Quartzsite at least once! We will be back in Arizona this year, too much wind in Texas for us! Here’s hoping each of you have a great holiday season and are able to get some warm weather traveling in this winter. If you’re in Arizona this winter, get in touch. We can be reached at: [email protected] and [email protected].

OKLAHOMALee & Nancy Allen (20198)Presidents Hello Okie friends and members, the “frost is on the pumpkin” and it is time to PARTY! Hope everyone has returned home safely from their recent travels.

I heard the Grand Circle Caravan was a huge success as was the Balloon Fiesta Rally in Albuquerque. The Balloon Fiesta had been on our bucket list and we were so thankful that we were able to attend. We had a wonderful time, met and made some new friends as always. The members that host the Newmar rallies and events need to be given gold stars and our undying gratitude for all the time and effort that goes into making everything come together. We had one little glitch. They changed the parking area and sent out emails giving directions to the new parking site. Well, Lee’s email went to spam, and we showed up at the wrong place. A very nice gentleman led us to the new parking area that just happened to be a few miles around the festival park. So check your spam mail every few days, lesson learned.

Lee & I have been checking out places to have our annual Christmas Party. We could not believe that so many places are already booked. People are just ready to party. However, I was able to get December 12, and I talked him into a 3-hour slot from 5 pm to 8 pm. We have the private dining room, so we should be able to have our dinner, visit and play Dirty Santa.

As I have stated in our last email, this will be Lee’s and my last time as OKIE Chapter President and Secretary/Treasurer. We are hoping that someone will be nominated and accept the position. We have so many family health issues and just not enough time to devote to the Klub. The chapter has grown and been steady. We will always be available to help in any way we can.

We are saying goodbye to 2021 and saying hello to 2022. Safe travels and good health to all our OKIE friends.

their winter home, and many of adventures taught us a lot. We even found that two of our members had been to clown college! Baraboo is also the home of the add photo here International Crane Foundation.

We are planning our State Rally with Iowa again this year. We will be going to Whittington Woods June 8-12, in Whittington, Illinois. Stay tuned for more details to follow. Illinois has its own “Garden of the Gods”, and we are looking forward to exploring. We hope to have a fishing outing at Rend Lake, and who knows maybe a fish fry.

Be sure to check for luncheons where you land for winter. It’s a great way to meet new Newmarians, and have a great time.

Take care and stay safe. We can be reached at [email protected].

IOWA Bill & Pat Schmidt (19321)Iowa State DirectorsHello from Iowa! We had a great trip to Bailey Harbor and Baraboo. A big thank you to Paul & Judy Swing and Joe & Donna Delaney for two fun rallies.

MINNESOTABear & Robin Abraham (22482)Minnesota State DirectorsGreetings from Minnesota. Hope everyone enjoyed a healthy and happy holiday season. This is our first year as “snowbirds” so the holidays were different. Do not get us wrong, we do not miss the cold and snow, but being separated from family and not having our usual Christmas traditions felt a little strange.

Bear & I took part in the Kountry Klub’s Grand Circle Caravan Special Event. We saw amazing scenery, made wonderful new friendships and had a great time! Mother Nature had a little fun with us when she decided we should have five inches of snow while in Bryce Canyon, followed by an overnight temperature dropping to 13 degrees. As Minnesotans, of course we had to embrace the moment so we built a snowman! Bryce Canyon blanketed in snow was a sight to behold and one we will long remember. We encourage everyone to take advantage of all the great opportunities the Kountry Klub has to offer.

The Minnesota Loons have been busy recruiting and we would like to welcome new members Paul & Judy Swing, Bob & Mary Sue Briggs, Steve & Martina Anderson and Mike & Deb Danelski. We are glad you have chosen to join us.

Plans for 2022 are underway. The Loons first chapter rally of the season will take place May 9-12 at the St. Cloud Campground and RV Park. Please call the campground at 320-251-4463 to reserve your site and also register for the rally on the Kountry Klub website. Plans are being finalized for a rally in June. In July many will attend the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. We are planning our State Rally for August, and the Region 4 Rally will be in September. Please check out the Kountry Klub Calendar for additional details and new rallies to participate in.

Happy Holidays to one and all! By this time, we all have arrived at our winter destinations whether that be a warm location or have chosen to stay at home.

We have arrived in the Rio Grande area for our third year in Alamo, Texas. We hope to see many of our Newmar friends in the area.

Be sure to check the Klub’s calendar to locate the winter luncheons in your area this is a great way to meet new and old Newmar friends.

We are busy finalizing our plans for the Region 4 Rally, which is going to be held September 15-18 at Eagle Cliff Campground in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Pease call the campgrounds directly to make your reservations. Deadline to make reservations is June 15. Details as far as activities will follow.

Looking forward to the 2022 International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming being held July 16-23. Please mark your calendars for this event.

We are looking forwarded to next spring and being able to travel in Region 4 and attend chapter and state rallies and experience the sights and meeting new and old Newmar friends.

Fall is a great time to travel, and we enjoyed two rallies in Wisconsin. The Region 4 Rally was lots of fun, and it was great to see many of our Newmar friends. We traveled through Door County by car, by trolley, add photo here and even by boat. Also, we visited a unique restaurant and saw a add photo here fish boil. Paul & Judy Swing did a fantastic job keeping track of all 50+ people, and it was enjoyable for all.

From there we went to Baraboo, Wisconsin for a chapter rally of our Southern chapter IKK. Thanks to Joe & Donna Delaney to showing us all the sites. The Ringling Brothers called this

RUSHMORE ROAMERSBob & Bonnie Martin (22598) PresidentsGreetings to all Newmar Kountry Klub members. With winter coming up to full swing, we hope all are safe in their winter destinations. For us, after spending the last 20 winters in Florida, we decided to take a swing this snowbird season in the southwest part of our great country.

Our first stop after leaving South Dakota on September 30 was at the Amana Colonies in Iowa (close to where Bonnie grew up) to enjoy their Oktoberfest celebration. We always enjoy a trotter for one of our meals at the festival…be sure to ask us about these when you see us. Next, we could not resist a two-week stay in Colorado, where Bonnie is always excited to see her 3 Xs always a great experience as those 3 Xs are our great granddaughters, whose names all begin with “X”. After a short stay on the western slope of Colorado, we headed to Utah, Nevada, California. Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma before returning to South Dakota.

By then, we will have finalized plans for the annual Rushmore Roamers Chapter Rally, scheduled for arrival on June 28 and departure on July 1. The dates and campground are confirmed, and plans are well underway for unique activities and tours. Please watch the Legacy magazine for further details and registration deadline.

We would like to reach out to all our NKK full-timers domiciled in South Dakota to learn more about your home state, and what better way than to join our chapter rally in June 2022 and learn some of the “secrets” of South Dakota

This article provides additional winterization instructions relevant to coaches equipped with an Aqua View Shower Miser Fresh Water Reclamation System. This information should be used in conjunction with the coach winterization process as written in Newgle (visit https://newgle.newmarcorp.com/s/article/How-to-Winterize-a-Coach).

• Cycle the valve to the recirculate position to purge the water out of the line back to the fresh water tank while the pressurized air supply is connected.

• Place the valve back to normal flow mode to the showerhead.

• Then purge the shower.

• Run RV antifreeze through the shower system.

Do not leave the valve in bypass mode when running antifreeze in the line because it will allow antifreeze into the fresh tank.

Well, it finally happened. Planning for the Region 5 Rally began in 2019. We all know what happened in 2020. Then 2021 arrived and the event went off better than we could have ever expected. We ended up with 58 coaches, down from the 75 that we had in 2020.

Bill Manion opened with the singing of the National Anthem. What a voice he has been blessed with, thanks Bill.

The rally began with our BBQ dinner. Haywards Smokehouse provided the meal and it was fantastic. On Wednesday & Friday mornings, the Valley Café came to the rally hall providing delicious breakfasts. They

e v e n p r o v i d e R E A L G L A S S P L AT E S A N D FLATWARE. This was the first rally that I know of, that disposable plates and eating utensils were not used. Wanda gets the credit for our well-decorated hall.

Our original plans were to attend the Festhalle in the small Bavarian town of Helen, for a meal and live music. Due to COVID, we opted to have a German dinner (authentic) and live music at the rally hall. Our co-hosts Jim & Barb Watson found the #1 band in North Georgia to perform. The Foxfire Boys played a variety of music from bluegrass to country to gospel. We could certainly see why they were rated #1.

Many attendees attended a guided tour of the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. We all were educated on the history and customs of the Cherokee Indian. Many also went to the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee. The fairgrounds artist and craftsman booths were full of quality products for sale. Of course, you cannot attend without a funnel cake. The great food was capped off by a performance of Lee Greenwood. At 78 years old, he still has it.

On Saturday morning we had a Cornhole Tournament with metals awarded to the top three places. The Gold Medal went to Bob & Norie Hass, Silver winners were Tim & Connie Buchholtz and Bill Berg & Kenny Griffin walked away with the Bronze.

Saturday evening meal of Prime Rib and Baked Chicken with all the trimmings concluded the rally. Again, Valley Café provided the meal and it was prepared to perfection. Oh yea, glass plates and flatware. One thing that I can say with certainty, “don’t expect this next year.”

REGION 5 // AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA

Our guest speaker was Brett Davis, CEO of National Indoor RV Centers.

We had great participation from Newmar dealers and suppliers. They were National Indoor RV Centers, North Trails RV, Independence RV, Campers Inn, Freightliner Custom Chassis, Dometic, Spartan, RetroBand, MagnaShade, RV Life, and Farm &City Insurance Co.

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE NKK.

Thanks to all of our members in attendance for making this a memorable Region 5 Rally. As always, Newmar members respond when needed. We chose the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia as our charity. Thank you for your generosity, $2,590.00 and two boxes of food, way to go Newmar!! Special thanks to our State Directors for their help and support.

On a sad note, Sunday evening before the rally Margie Harrop received a call that her son had died unexpectedly. She & Greg left early Monday morning. Please remember them in your prayers.

Love God Love Others. We can be reached at [email protected] 912-656-8800.

FLORIDAGreg & Margie Harrop (20694)Florida State DirectorsHello from “The Sunshine State”. Well, our “Welcome Back” rallies are in full bloom and we have had some good ones put together by our Rally Hosts & Co-Hosts. So, if you’re in Florida for the winter or just want to “come on down”, don’t hesitate to sign up and be ready for some fun, fellowship, entertainment and of course FOOD.

Margie & I have been hanging close to home after attending some great rallies and the International Rally in West Virginia. Greg’s mom celebrated her 101st birthday in Salt Springs, Florida, with a great party thrown by his brother, Grayson, his wife Toni and over 100 friends. Mom slipped away from her walker and danced up a storm to the “grinnin’ & picken” being played in her honor. And don’t forget the FOOD: BBQ, cake and ice cream all of Mom’s favorites.

Each of our chapters have signed up many new Newmar owners to the Kountry Klub. We hope they will sign up for the rallies and Margie & I can’t wait to meet y’all.

So, for now, Take Care and Stay Safe. Remember, “The best part of any journey is the people we meet along the way”. We can be reached at [email protected] Greg’s cell: 954-914-8335.

FLORIDA MANATEESLaura Baker (19643)PresidentAs we make our way to Florida from the Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia, we are present to just what a gift the RVing lifestyle is. We enjoyed the music of “The Foxfire Boys,” a local bluegrass group. We had a chance to catch up with friends from Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, Georgia, the

Carolinas, Tennessee, and of course Florida! We want to acknowledge and thank Gary & Wanda Smith for their commitment to NKK and thank the entire team that made the rally happen.

The Manatees are back in action this season with some great things planned. By the time this goes to print our November Rally in Jacksonville, Florida will be complete. A big thanks goes out to James & Peggy Meadows for stepping up as new members to host this rally. There’s no better way to meet everyone than to jump in and host a rally! We hope to see you all at the Tampa Super Show. After that, we have rallies scheduled in February in Webster, Florida, and March in Clermont, Florida.

Next up in the spring will be our first “Boondocking Rally” in Fort White, Florida - April 7-11. This rally will be scheduled in conjunction with Boondockers Welcome/Harvest Hosts. It will be a chance for experienced boondockers as well as “newbies” to share experiences and learn how to manage coaches in the absence of hookups. There will be live entertainment and workshops to keep you busy learning about boondocking in your Newmar coach, old or new. We hope to welcome many of our new members to join us for one, or all of these rallies.

FLORIDA PELICANSTim Buchholz (12344)PresidentWell Connie & I just got home [2 hours ago] from the Region 5 Rally, held in Dillard, Georgia. Gary & Wanda Smith, I need to say it here, you folks are “exceptional” leaders and organizers. The rally location was perfect with fall colors and the weather was beautiful each day. The sites visited and the food were really enjoyed by us all. I can’t remember ever having a prime rib dinner at a rally. The highlight for me was attending the Georgia Mountain Fair. The Lee Greenwood show was -outstanding. This 78-year-old performer is still bringing his fans to their feet. Along with the fact that he is a patriot makes him my kind of guy. Gary, Wanda and all those folks that assisted, a job well done. Thank you for a grand experience. Greg & Marge Harrop, our State Directors, arrived at Dillard early for planning purposes, but were called home as they had a son pass unexpectedly. Our prayers and hearts go out to you.

In my last article, I provided an update on several of our members that have dealt with medical issues. I’m sorry to say that two of those folks, Andy Hamor and Roger Mercier, have passed away in the last week. A third long-standing member, Neil O’Reilly passed away in July. Roger was our Vice President and the most senior member of the Pelicans; he was charter member #32 having joined in March of 2001.

On a brighter side, the Pelicans will hold their annual Christmas Luncheon again this year at the Audubon Country Club in Naples. Our

Pelican Buddy, Carol Hussey continues to arrange this for us. Then we are holding our first “Ghost Host” rally in Auburndale, Florida on December 12. From there we look forward to the Tampa Super Show as usual in January 2022.

We continue to hold 4th Monday luncheons for the Pelicans, buddies and any non-member that is inclined to join us. The venue changes each month. Therefore, it’s best for you to contact Pat Hartman, the coordinator at 239-470-1074 or [email protected]. Also, the NKK luncheons will again start up in December 2021 thru March 2022 at the Golden Corral, 4690 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers. The hosts here are Ron & Wanda Llewellyn, our International Directors with the Pelicans assisting in this gathering each month.

Again, if you’re taking the time to read this, are not yet a member of a Newmar chapter, and reside here in South Florida during the winter, we would love to have you join the Florida Pelicans. More members mean more ideas, more friends, and more fun for us that are out of the workforce.

In closing, I trust that you each had a very blessed and thankful Thanksgiving. Connie, I and the entire Pelican membership wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2022 bring better times for the Country and to each of us.

We can be reached at [email protected] Cell: 239-464-0219.

FLORIDA SEA TURTLESSteve Terry (19880)President Greetings from the Sea Turtles! 2021 is coming to an end and we hope that the coming year will bring safer times for us all and allow greater freedom of movement across our great country.

Our 2022 rally season has four willing hosts with a desire to share good Sea Turtle times with any and all interested NKK members. The season starts with rallies in February and March followed by two more rallies at the end of the year in November and December. Be sure to check the NKK website for postings on these rallies as we move into the New Year.

We would encourage any of you NKK members who plan to be traveling through the State of Florida to give us a shout, and come out to one of our rallies. Let us share our Florida spirit with you.

We can be reached at [email protected] 321-446-6896.

MID SOUTH TRI-STATE (GA-AL-MS)Jim and Barb Watson (20238)Tri-State DirectorsWe had a great Region 5 Rally this year in Dillard, Georgia. Gary & Wanda did a great job in coordinating meals and activities. Of course, while in Dillard we had to go to The Dillard House for a meal (bulking up). The weather was great, and we spent quality time with many Klub members. We saw Lee Greenwood at Anderson Music Hall in Hiawassee, Georgia. Lots of great memories.

November and December we will put the final touches on our upcoming Tri-State Rally (May 2-6) to be held at River Rocks Landing in Gadsden, Alabama. One event will be a tour of the Talladega Racing Museum and track ride. Lots of good food and entertainment in a fantastic setting and club house. Registration is limited to thirty coaches, please register on the Klub calendar and book your site.

PEACH STATE KRACKERS Donna Jones (20599)PresidentWe have been home (Florida) and off the road for a couple of months now. It was hot when we arrived home, but it is beginning to cool down. We can actually feel a touch of fall in the air early in the morning. We were not able at attend the Region 5 Rally in the northeast Georgia mountains in Dillard this year, but I hear several of the PSK members attended and enjoyed the rally. The rally was held during the time of the year that you could see the changing of the leaves and all of the beautiful fall colors. I know it had to be a beautiful view from the mountaintops.

The PSK will be holding their Christmas Luncheon and Annual Business Meeting on December 16, 12:00-3:00 pm at Ole Time Country Buffet and BBQ in Macon, Georgia. The lunch will be Dutch Treat. We will hold our Business Meeting and play a game of Dirty Santa after the meeting. If you plan to attend, please go online at newmarkountryklub.com and register. Each person who attends the luncheon should bring a $10 gift wrapped to play Dirty Santa. It will be a great time of fun and fellowship.

Plans are being made for our 2022 Rally, which will be held September 21-25 (4 nights), at Bald Mountain Park Camping Resort in Hiawassee, Georgia. Registration is available on the Klub’s website newmarkountryklub.com. We will be taking the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway along the Toccoa River where we will stop in sister towns of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee. There is also plenty of outdoor recreation for everyone to enjoy. Details will be posted on the website after the first of the year.

The Mid South Tri State Rally for 2022 will be held May 2-6, at River Rocks Landing in Gadsden, Alabama. Information and registration is on the newmarkountryklub.com website.

If you live in Georgia, Alabama, or Mississippi and would like to meet fellow Newmar owners that live in your home state, come and join the Peach State Krackers. Meeting other Newmar owners is an excellent way to learn about your motorhome and meet new people who enjoy doing the same thing you do. We always have good food to eat; we see interesting sites in the area and have plenty of fun and fellowship. To find out more about the Newmar Peach State Krackers, please email me at [email protected]. We are also on Facebook at Georgia Newmar Peach State Krackers, for PSK members or past members only.

CAROLINA’S (NC – SC)Carl and Gayle Webber (20143)State Directors- The Carolinas (NC/SC)Hey, y’all! ‘Tis the season … of giving thanks, of celebrating the birth of a Baby in a manger, of ringing in a new year. It’s the time of year when we look back over the previous year, sometimes with a giggle and sometimes with a tear, and often make resolutions for the year

ahead. ‘Tis also the season of travel to a warmer climate for many of us Newmar owners. Since 2016 (when Gayle retired), us “Wandering Webbers” have taken the opportunity to spend 2-3 months in Florida, which gives us a chance to spend some quality time with Carl’s son (on the West coast) and cousins (on the East coast), while avoiding the coldest part of Winter in North Carolina. Speaking of giving thanks … we are blessed, y’all!

As we have done the last five years, Gayle & I will once again be attending the Florida RV Super Show. We will arrive a week early to assist with the set-up of the Newmar demo coaches and NKK rally area. On arrival day (Tuesday, January 18), we will greet you in the “registration/staging area” before you are escorted to your campsite. A few reminders for attendees: #1) please read the information included in your registration packet. #2) you will enter the fairground property via Martin Luther King Blvd (Route 574). #3) arrive during your designated arrival timeslot (which is printed on your Parking Card). #4) be sure to have your Parking Card displayed on the passenger side of the windshield (high enough to be seen, please) upon arrival. #5) arrive with a FULL tank of fresh water and EMPTY holding tanks. #6) be prepared to have a GREAT time! 😊

Our Carolinas State Rally will be the perfect “welcome home” gathering as the aforementioned “snow birds” start to migrate back to the Carolinas (and some northern states). Scheduled for March 28-April 1 in Swansea, South Carolina, the weather should be ideal so members can acclimate to the cooler temperatures leisurely while enjoying some family time with their NKK family. As of this writing, the details are still in the works, but will be updated on the Klub Calendar in ample time to register and book your campsite (which must be done by mid-January). We hope to see you there!

Fun in the Carolinas will continue in April with the Tarheel Kountry Klub’s rally later in April (25– 29) in the North Carolina coastal town of New Bern. You can register and book your campsite now (and probably should, because it’s sure to sell-out!) and the rally hosts, Ray & Kathy Dyer, will update the calendar listing as the specifics are finalized.

In South Carolina, rally hosts Jim & Carla Miller are also in the planning stages for their Palmetto Pals 2022 rally; again, keep checking that calendar for details. (Are you starting to see a pattern here? 😊)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, y’all. May the joy of the holiday season and the hope for the coming year fill each of you. As for us, we’re drinking from the saucer because our cup is overflowing!

Safe travels, y’all … to wherever your Newmar takes you! We can be reached at [email protected] /[email protected] 704-225-7442/ 704-619-1851.

SOUTH CAROLINA PALMETTO PALSJames & Carla Miller (21279)PresidentsHey from South Carolina (and all over). Jim & I left home the middle of July to attend the International Rally in Lewisburg, West Virginia and have been traveling since.

We arrived in Williston, North Dakota on the 8th of August, and had a wonderful time seeing family and friends. Jim got to play farmer again when he assisted our brother-in-law, Kurt, harvest his wheat crop. The drought caused a serious reduction in the quantity and quality of this year’s produce, but they gathered what was there.

We hope you have the 36th annual International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming on your calendar for 2022. Rally dates will be July 16-23 with parking days of July 15 & 16. This will be a new location for us with 600 sites that will all be 50 amp full hookup! Below is some information on the event.

• Parking in Rock Springs. The Sweetwater Events Complex will be unique, as we will be parking units by length of units to fit length of sites. It will be important that you supply the unit length when registering. If you are requesting handicap parking, please indicate if you have a handicap lift unit so we can accommodate the additional needed space. All trailers will need to be unhooked and will be parked separately in an area near your unit.

• If you are coming in with a caravan group (4 or more units) or leading a group in please see the separate caravan instructions on page 56 for the procedures to be followed.

• In the past we said if you come in together (less than 4 units) we will park you together. This year depending on length we will be able to park you close but it may not be possible to always be side by side.

• Once again, we do plan to offer boondocking the day before your assigned arrival date. Cost to boondock will be $10, which you will pay in cash upon arrival. We will have a question on the rally registration form if you are boondocking. If you are intending to do so please indicate that, as it will help us in planning. We will be doing our staging a little different, as you will also be staged according to the length of your unit.

• We are working with both the RV Weighing Team and the RV Driving School to attend our rallies.

• We are looking at offering area tours the weekend the rally ends rather than begins which will open up Saturday evening and all day Sunday for more scheduled activities. We will share more information as the area tour schedule develops.

• We have been communicating with Freightliner to set up the Camp Freightliner classes which will be offered the weekend the rally ends. Just a reminder you must be registered for the International Rally to attend the Camp Freightliner classes.

• Last year a couple of our craft class instructors noticed we had more kids in attendance and said they would offer some kids craft classes or possible kids activities.

• In mid to late January we will add the rally information and pricing to the website. Registration will open thru our website on Monday, February 7th at 8:00 am eastern time. Simply go to newmarkountryklub.com, click on Klub Calendar, then the International Rally in the drop down box.

We will be updating this column in future issues as more details become final. If you have any questions please contact the Klub office at either [email protected] or 877-639-5582.

THE ROAD TO ROCK SPRINGS

33DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

After completing the harvest, we visited Bemidji, Minnesota to see Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox monument. Our travels continued to Fargo, North Dakota, where we visited the Air Museum and the Hjemkomst Center. This site hosts the Viking ship that sailed to Norway and the Hopperstad Stave Church. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. Well worth the visit!

When we started this trip, we planned to stay and participate in the sugar beets harvest, just on the east side of North Dakota, but Kurt convinced him into staying in Williston and working with a local farmer that turned out to be a classmate of mine. Jim and Kurt drove eighteen-wheeler trucks, with thirteen gears (totally new to Jim) alongside the beet picker which conveyed the beets into the truck. The state waives the load limits during the harvest season to allow for quick completion. Some of the loads Jim hauled were more than one-hundred thousand pounds. I spent a day riding with him to get the experience, too. We made several trips from the field to the dumpsite and boy, was that ever a thrill. Six huge piles of sugar beets, more than a football field wide and six fields in length. The trucks dumped the beets, (some by tipping up, others by the conveyer belt at the bottom of the truck bed) onto a conveyer, which spread the beets from side to side. The conveyer had to be moved back at times as the piles grew.

Several days of weather delayed the process, some days getting into the nineties (they don’t harvest the beets if over sixty degrees) and a second delay because of SNOW. When we woke up to the snow, our kids said it was time to pack up and head home, but it was gone in one day, so the harvest continued. They finished up last Monday, so one day to stock the RV and say our farewells. We departed on Wednesday in hopes of avoiding the weather system that covered the entire way from the gulf into Canada. We were excited to get back home and arrived on Saturday night.

We missed the Region 5 Rally; but are looking forward to the North Carolina/South Carolina Christmas at the Beach Rally scheduled for December 7-10 at the Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Safe travels to all and “Keep it Between the Lines”. We can be reached at [email protected].

NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELSRay & Kathy Dyer (22237) President and Secretary Join us in welcoming Ken & Jan Poole and Al & Laurie Johnson to the North Carolina Tarheel family.

It was great seeing everyone at the Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia. We enjoyed seeing friends and eating way too much. We attended the Georgia Mountain Fair and had a great opportunity to see Lee Greenwood on stage. Hershal Walker also made an appearance.

In the meantime, Kathy & I are still preparing for our North Carolina Tarheel Rally, April 25-29 in New Bern, North Carolina. More information on that as we get arrangements made.

Have fun on your travels and be safe. We can be reached at [email protected] / [email protected] 804-691-3309/804-691-9419. TENNESSEEPhil and Charlene Budd (9488-L)Tennessee State DirectorsYes, “Winter” has arrived and we will soon be hanging our new 2022 calendars! That too is becoming old fashioned and historical. I can

remember when the excitement built waiting to see the picture on the new calendar. Yes, just one big picture and you tore off each passing month. In later years came calendars with each month having a new picture. In our little town we had a Birthday Calendar printed and the town folks donated a few dollars to have each one of their family members listed on the day/month they were born and how old they were. It was always exciting to hear the phone ring on your birthday as a neighbor, friend, or cousin would ring you and either sing “Happy Birthday” or wish you one. I know as a family; we would all gather around our phone when we called anyone and sang “Happy Birthday” to them! It was so much fun. Today your calendar is probably on your smart watch or smart phone! Growing up in small town USA was a blessing then, and for those lucky ones, who today, live in a small tightly- knit rural community, a blessing for them.

Well, enough reminiscing and on to the business of RVing. Where are you spending winter? You might be in Florida, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico or Southern California, who knows, maybe you choose to stay home. Wherever you are, Charlene & I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy and Safe New Year.

For those of us who have stayed home, in our case Tennessee, we hope you have a good pile of dry firewood and can enjoy the warmth of a crackling wood fire and fragrant smoke smell when you stick your head out the door to see if it is cold or how much it snowed overnight.

Rally season is wide open in the southern states where “Snow Birds” flock, and we hope you are checking the Legacy’s Klub Calendar and getting on line to register and enjoy the fellowship. “Fellowship”, is what NKK and camping is all about.

Our 2022 Tennessee State Rally April 26-May 1 has been sold out since August 2021 and we have a standby list started. As we write this article, we are waiting on the 2022 April/May, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Sevierville show schedules and pricing to be published, so that we can finalize our rally fees and daily schedules.

Many of you will be at the Rally in the Keys this month and next month the Tampa Super Show or boondocking at Quartzsite; Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Well, we will close for now, as it is October as we write this, and it’s time to go cut firewood…hmmm maybe I’ll just buy some this year and sit back in my “LazyBoy recliner”!

We will close with, Safe Travels and God Speed. We can be reached at 931-638-2015 or [email protected].

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER KRUISERSSheryn Ward (18849)PresidentHello from the Tennessee – Volunteer Kruisers Chapter! I believe that by now everyone is taking a few minutes to decide where they will be spending their winter months and what events to load up their 2022 calendar with. The Newmar calendar is full of fun events for next year and hopefully everyone found several that they would like to attend and enjoy. The end of the 2021 camping year is just a few steps away for our neck of the woods and events to attend are getting fewer for this year. If you are looking to get in “just one more”, check out the North Carolina/South Carolina Christmas at the Beach Rally. It is the best way to end the year. Check the Klub Calendar listing and give the rally hosts a phone call (or email) to see if there are still vacancies. You won’t be sorry. Not to worry though, the beginning of the 2022 camping season is just around the corner with the Tampa Super Show in January.

34 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022

Our Lewisburg, West Virginia International Rally is in the history books and I hope everyone has penciled in the dates and location of the 2022 rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming. These rallies are always a great opportunity to meet new people and renew friendships with those that we haven’t seen in a while. Our Region 5 Rally at Dillard, Georgia is also in the history books but I can tell you that our Region 5 Directors, Gary & Wanda Smith, held up their reputation by putting on a great rally.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the (20) new member couples that chose to join our chapter, (Tennessee) Volunteer Kruisers, this year. Joining a new organization is always a stressful step to take but we are happy that all of our many new 2021 members took a chance on us. Thank you, thank you.

Our chapter is currently in the final stages of our annual election of officers; results will be announced soon. If you belong to a chapter and have not volunteered to lead your chapter by filling an officer position, you are missing a fun opportunity. Please consider raising your hand. Likewise, please think about volunteering to host or co-host a rally in 2022 or a luncheon. Chapters have a great support team and fun gatherings can be obtained with very little work by any one person. Give it a try and volunteer to co-host a luncheon or a rally, I promise it won’t hurt.

We hope that you are enjoying your holidays and thank you for taking the time to read our little piece of the Legacy magazine. We look forward to any suggestions you might have to offer. Closing for now, more next time. We can be reached at [email protected].

VIRGINIAMichael Vreeland (20733)Virginia State DirectorWow what a great summer, tons of rallies and time with my fellow Newmarians and Wheelers. What is not to like. The Virginia State Rally was held at the Americamps RV Resort in Ashland, Virginia, September

29-October 3; it was a huge success. I seem to remember being hoisted up and on the shoulders of rally attendees and we all marched around the rally room hollering RALLY! RALLY! RALLY! Unfortunately, when they were tossing me up into the air again and again, they missed the catch and I fell to the floor, which woke me up. Yeah, I know but what a dream. We really did have great time at the rally.

So, get ready to add a few pounds from just reading this article. We had three waffle breakfasts, one fruit and continental breakfast hosted by SkyMed, one BBQ dinner from Kings BBQ with all the trimmings, one fried Chicken dinner with all the trimmings hosted by Americamps, one Filet Mignon dinner with all the trimmings at a local restaurant, another filet Mignon and scallop dinner from a local food truck. Americamps had a funnel cake and icee truck come in for free food as well. Finally, we had an Ice Cream social (all you can eat) after the food truck. Of course, everyone had selections beside Filet Mignon but I did say Filet Mignon so that was all I read and ordered. So bottom line, attendees ate well and are trying to work off the extra pounds.

The Virginia State Fair was just a few miles down the road and a number of attendees went and really enjoyed the pig races, people watching and oh yeah, the food. I typically do not add many excursions at a rally for

no other reason than most other rallies have them and I just wanted a chance to talk and visit with my fellow Wheeler’s. As it turns out there was a lot of kicking back and swapping lies so everyone got a chance to decompress and have some good old fashion fun.

We had several first-time attendees at this rally, which is a great thing. We had a family from Michigan (Mike, Melody, and Jackson Bauer) and this was their first excursion in a brand new Super C. They had a great time and Jackson was a big hit with everyone. No doubt rallying is in their future. We had my fellow Sea Turtles Bill & Eileen Berg attend. We had Jack Grasmeder an SOB attendee; he was Margie & Nick Mangus dad. He too really enjoyed the rally. We had several other first time attendees Anthony & Heather Gallo, Larry & Kathy Nolan, and Mike & Tipper Bradford. If I missed someone, I will apologize for that now. We also had quite a few other Wheeler’s attending. To all that attended this rally I want to thank you all. I really enjoyed seeing and rallying with them you.

Of course, we had the internationally renowned “Name the TV Show Game” with attendees hoping to win the much coveted “TV Dog” award. Unfortunately, the threshold of correct answers was not broken so I still remain the reigning “TV Dog”. Although I said I would hand out multiple-choice sheets since the questions may be “too hard” I decided the TV Dog award needed to be won the hard way. You will have another chance at the next state rally, more info to follow. The winning team did get gift cards as a consolation prize. We also played card bingo, which was a big hit especially with the new attendees. They loved the game and as it always happens several won. Not sure how that happens but it seems first time attendees bring their luck with them. We played the game on two different nights by popular demand. We also played Left Right Center dice game. Everyone really enjoyed the games.

We had a bunch of door prizes like Frog Togg rain gear, foam fire extinguishers, meat thermometer, flashlight, knee pads, etc. Everyone got a door prize. But, the big surprise was the welcome bags. They were packed with goodies some of which I had to explain and show folks how they worked – no really. The gripper sticks, grill mats, and collapsible trivets seem to be a challenge. Someone suggested the trivet was a practice throwing star – I can see how they got there. I had several attendees say this was one of the best welcome bag they have every gotten so that was very satisfying. I love giving stuff in a welcome bag that I know attendees will enjoy using. I make is a rule that I do not get door prizes that I would not like and I put stuff in the welcome bag that I use or would like to use.

We had a “changing of the guard” ceremony where Danny & Jeanette who have had an officer position in the Virginia Wheels since 2007 and have been President since 2015 turned over the reins to Tom & Gloria Rezentes who are now the new Virginia Wheels Presidents. Thanks to both Danny & Jeanette for their long years of service to the Wheels and the NKK and to Tom & Gloria for taking up the mantle and running with it. Additionally, Tommy & Becky Rygiel have stepped up to the Vice Presidents position. I would like to thank Ron & Ulaine for continuing as Treasurer and Secretary. Their support in these positions have been crucial for Virginia Wheels continued operations. So a special thanks to Ron & Ulaine. Bottom line, thanks to you all from all of us Wheelers. If you watched Hee Haw here is your “Salute”.

A couple days after the rally I was on the road to Freightliner at Gaffney for yearly service. I still have not been able to get service under $1500. Oh well, need to do it yearly to reduce the chance that I will be one of those RVs on the side of the road. So do your service.

35DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

After that, I headed to the Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia a couple days early. I am currently writing this article at the rally so I can submit it by the deadline. The rally has been great, good weather and great time visiting with old friends and Newmarians. As is typically the case, first time attendee to any rally and new to the Virginia Wheels Robert & Nancy Brown won the grand prize – a Dometic freezer for the bay. Something about being a first-time attendee as I noted earlier, we have all seen them win drawings. Not a bad way to start off your Rving adventure down the highway of life.

We had some great food and several meals were served on real plates and silverware. I mentioned to Gary the food was free but the china is what cost – just saying. We had a cornhole tournament, which was a lot of fun. There were metals for the top three winning teams. We also had a live band after one of the dinners, which was pretty cool. There was a lot of local activities – a festival was going on and of course sightseeing. All in all, a lot to do and see.

Oh well, guess that is it for now. Everyone enjoy your holidays with family, I know I will. Have a piece of mincemeat pie for me. To all my fellow Newmarians, travel safe, and I hope to see you soon. Rally On!

Safe travels to all and Happy RVing. I can be reached at [email protected] or 540-809-9830.

VIRGINIA WHEELSDanny & Jeanette Templeton (17203)Presidents

Danny & I are retiring as Virginia Wheels’ Presidents; therefore, this will be our last Legacy magazine article. We are excited and confident that our incoming Presidents, Tom & Gloria Rezentes will be outstanding leaders of our Virginia Wheels’ family! We will continue to enjoy the fellowship of Virginia Wheelers and NKK members in our retirement!

What fun we had September 29-October 2 at the Virginia State Rally at Americamps RV Resort in Ashland, Virginia! Danny & I were delighted to enjoy our 50th wedding anniversary with our Virginia Wheels’ family. We had lots of fun and fellowship with all of the attendees as we passed the presidency on to Tom & Gloria. Our host, Michael Vreeland had food planned from morning to night so naturally we all ate and ate! Many of us enjoyed the Virginia State Fair as we laughed as the pigs raced, spellbound as the acrobats flew through the air, and of course ate more food! Lots of games and laughs were shared by all throughout the entire rally! Can’t wait for the next time we can all be together!

January 20, 2022 at 11:30 am, our incoming Virginia Wheels Presidents, Tom & Gloria will host the Virginia Wheels Y’all Come Gathering at the Tampa Supershow. More details will be shared at a later date.

Danny & I are looking forward to gathering together again this winter in Florida with our Virginia Wheels Snowbirds! We always enjoy spending time with our Virginia Wheels family!

Danny & I hope you stay safe and keep having fun. We look forward to rallying with you in 2022! We can be reached at 540-520-8845 or [email protected].

HOW TO BE A GOOD CAMPGROUND NEIGHBORDick White (15649)

I was discussing the large number of new NKK members we had and how a large number had never really done a substantial amount of camping/RVing with the clubs Member at Large and my friend Evan Hughes. I suggested that an article in the Kountry Klub Legacy with some basic courtesies would be a good idea for these members who might not know about them. He looked at me and said “you’ve been RVing for almost 20 years and have over 200,000 miles under your belt in The US and Canada and I think you should write it”. Me and my suggestions. So here goes.

Read the campground rules and regulations given to you at check in. I know it sounds obvious but it is amazing how many people leave bags of trash at their site expecting pick up when the rules say no trash pick-up and you are expected to take it to the dumpster.

Don’t interrupt campers hooking or unhooking in a campground. This activity soon becomes a routine but talking while doing it can break your or another person’s chain of thought and lead to a mistake. The same applies if you or someone else is dumping or filling the various tanks.

I suggest always wearing gloves when handling waste or hoses dealing with waste. I prefer rubber/latex one use gloves like the mechanics gloves you see in auto parts stores vs dish washing gloves or other forms of heavy rubber gloves. I just think it is cleaner.

Sanitize the water spigot and hose connection. You never know what has been there. I have seen sewer hoses put over a fresh water spigot to wash it out. Don’t do that and sanitize in case someone else did.

Try and keep your TV, radio, and talk reasonably quiet especially after dark and definitely during quiet hours. Perhaps move to the front of the coach if you or group will be having a nice time. If you are not outside watching or listening shut the outside radios and TVs off.

Remember to turn off the awning and under coach lights when you shut off the outdoor TV and radio during quiet hours and when retiring for the night.

Walking through unoccupied sites historically has not been acceptable and definitely never walk through an occupied site.

Obey the speed limits in your car, golf cart, and RV. Try to park fully in your space or park in a designated spot. Please don’t be the person who makes it hard or impossible for another RV to park or leave.

If you have pets pick up after them and try and keep their barking to a minimum, especially if you are gone and not in the coach. Do not assume everybody loves dogs so keep the leash reasonably tight and under control. Always know the rules regarding pets in buildings or pool areas and obey them.

Don’t wash your car or coach without checking first if it is allowed. I even check to see if it is ok to just use water and a squeegee to debug my front window.

These last 2 I will admit are pet peeves of mine but I will mention them.

Don’t leave smoldering fires. Be with them and have them burn or have none.

Don’t over idle your engine. With today’s pollution devises on your engine idling is never good. If it is running it should be because you are arriving or you are leaving. Speaking of arriving and leaving try and hook or unhook without blocking other RVs trying to leave or enter.

There you go just a few thoughts on how to be a good campground neighbor. Try and remember in a campground almost everything you do will affect those around you.

37DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

We have had such an exciting and full rally season in 2021; it’s hard to believe that it has come to an end. We have visited museums, glass factories, Victorian houses, bulk food stores, Amish homes, Amish restaurants, the Kountry Klub office, a lunatic asylum and the Soo Locks. We have traveled over mountains, through hill country, across flat lands and gone across the Mackinaw Bridge

in good and BAD weather. We have had the opportunity to see the region on bikes with two different beautiful bike trails in two states. Some members even flew in a 1928 Ford Tri Motor plane! Our rally

attendees were able to go on two boat excursions this season, one through the Soo Locks in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the other took them to Put in Bay Island in Ohio. We were able to play games and have campfires, and eat LOTS of food. Our last rally of the season gave us the opportunity to visit Rabbit Hash, Kentucky where the Mayor is a dog!! We had members very graciously open their houses and lake cottages to our members during a rally to host a meal and social time.

THANK YOU to all the rally hosts this season for all your hard work and creativity for planning all of these great rallies and adventures! We have received several COE’s for the 2022 season already. 2022 looks like it is going to be an exciting rally season with many great rally events to choose from. Please check the Klub Calendar in the Legacy Magazine and the Kountry Klub website for details. Many of these rallies have open registration now and some open up for registration right after the 1st of January to reserve a spot at some of the rallies. Many of these campgrounds fill up fast so be mindful of the dates and instructions for registering for these rallies!

Our region grew during 2021. Every chapter gained new members, and the state of Ohio even had a second chapter form in their state. The Lake Erie Drifters were chartered at the International Rally in Lewisburg, West Virginia! They even held two rallies in 2021 after the International Rally.

On the other side of the spectrum we are sorry to hear that John & Judy Van Loo (601-L) have decided to move on to a different chapter

of their lives. We just want to recognize them for 32 years of Newmar Kountry Klub Membership. THANK YOU for all the rallies you have hosted, units you have parked and registered at several International rallies, chapter offices you have held and all the wisdom and mentorship you have given to us all! We wish you the very best in this next chapter of your lives!

Region Directors :: Chuck & Michelle Steenwyk (20036)

REGION 6 // IN, KY, MI, OH, WVWe want to CONGRATULATE the Hoosier Kountry Klub (charter #2) the Michigan Aire Kampers (charter #5) and the Buckeye Kountry Travelers (charter #4) who celebrated their chapter’s 35th anniversary this year! Each chapter had a celebration during the rally season and gave an anniversary gift to its members.

Our Region 6 Rally will be held May 18-22. The rally will be held at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds located in Berea, Ohio. Rally details are in the works.

We want to wish all of our Newmar Family & Friends a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR! We look forward to seeing you at a rally in the near future.

We can be reached by email: [email protected].

INDIANASteve & Phyllis Thornburg (22044)Indiana State DirectorsWe held our Indiana State Rally in September at Potato Creek State Park. Twenty-five people attended, including twenty-one Hoosier Kountry Klub members, two NKK members visiting the area from Florida and two guests. We had six one-night visitors including Linda and DeAnn from the NKK office and Ron & Wanda Llewellyn who were working in the NKK office during the week.

We had a breakfast buffet at the Dutch Maid Eatery in Rentown (small Amish town and restaurant) and a great dinner at Memos House of Pancakes in Walkerton, Indiana (Friday night AYCE fish special was awesome).

We had a pizza dinner followed by a group sing-along led by the Kraft Family Singers from North Liberty, Indiana. We thank the Hoosier Kountry Klub for sponsoring the pizza dinner.

Friday morning, Phyllis held a rock painting class and found a lot of artistic talent in the group of participants. Some of the fun things that “appeared” from the rocks were a cupcake, a rather large piece of candy corn and following the candy theme, a green M&M (with a bite missing).

With our rally being at Potato Creek, Phyllis conjured up some fun with a “Build a Mr. /Mrs. Potato Head Contest” with teams competing to create the most original Potato Head character. That was followed by an “S3” (can we tell there’s a math teacher involved here somewhere?) dinner – Soups, Salads and Sundaes in the park’s Peppermint Hill shelter. After dinner, we celebrated the Hoosier Kountry Klub’s 35th Anniversary of its charter with ice cream and cake.

We have booked spaces for the 2022 Indiana State Rally at the Hogback Lake KOA at Angola, Indiana, for the dates of June 22 arrival and June 26 departure. When you see this, our reservation block will have expired on October 31. Although we will not have guaranteed spaces by this time, it is a big campground and, if you wish to attend the rally, you should contact the campground to see if they have any spaces available.

Just a couple of quick thoughts (not mine but they’re still good): As I watch this new generation try to rewrite our history, one thing I’m sure of….it will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

And, why do we love our motorhomes – a cold seat in a public restroom is unpleasant; a warm seat in a public restroom is worse…..

KENTUCKYRalph & Nancy Dennis (20372)Kentucky State DirectorsThe time of the year has come where the leaves are changing colors and falling to the ground. People are wearing sweaters and light coats in my home area. RVers are winterizing their units.

Reading Facebook and other social media, there are many people who have never winterized their RV. I hope they are successful with the process. The coming of spring will be the answer if they were successful. The Klub Calendar is full of rallies for the ensuing year. I have been looking at the dates and have started planning my camping activities for next year.

I am working on the Bluegrass Kountry Roamers Rally for next year. It will be in the Mammoth Cave area. The tentative dates are some time in the first week of May. More information is being prepared. Happy trails until we meet again. We can be reached by email: [email protected].

MICHIGANMarv & Von Visser (22141)Michigan State DirectorsWe hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. As we sat down to write this article in late October, we reflected on our year of traveling around and its many adventures.

For some of us who are not snowbirds we have put away our units for the season. We have had a good year traveling around attending rallies this past year. We attended two rallies in Florida in early spring. During the summer we attended Michigan rallies, the Region 6 Rally in Indiana, the International Rally, and hosted the Michigan State Rally. We also had many other little adventures.

Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia, somewhere we would never have gone on our own, turned out to be a great place to see and explore. Again, seeing old friends and meeting new ones is what the Kountry Klub is all about.

I attended a farm show and a tractor ride across the Mackinaw Bridge along with 1,400 or so other tractors, using our Newmar as our home away from home.

We had a planned trip to the Newmar factory service center in mid-November. We are now making plans to attend the Tampa Super Show in January and again in April to attend a Florida State Rally. Maybe we will extend that trip an extra week to soak up some of the sunshine Florida has to offer. Looking forward to a new camping season full of rallies and family vacations after that.

We wish everyone a great Christmas remembering Jesus is the reason for the season and may we all be blessed in that fact. Merry Christmas to all of the Newmar family!

We can be reached by email: [email protected].

MICHIGAN AIRE KAMPERSPaul & Diana Hugo (22411)President & TreasurerHello to all NKK members, especially those who live in the great state of Michigan! We are just back from our MAK Muskegon Rally. The LST (Landing Ship Tank) tour and presentation were super informative. To see how our troops lived while at sea was humbling. I recently learned my father served on a converted LST after the war. We had beautiful fall weather and wonderful conversations gathered around great meals, warm fires, ice cream, and gorgeous sunsets.

With the conclusion of our northern camping season, we are looking ahead at 2022 and have the following rallies on our schedule. FUN!

May 18-22 Region Rally in Berea, Ohio at the Cuyahoga County FairgroundsMay 26-30 Michigan Aires/Michigan Great Lakers joint rally, Aune Osborn Campground, Sault Ste. Marie, MichiganJune 15-19 Michigan State Rally at the Osceola Fairgrounds in Evart, MichiganJuly 17-24 International Rally in Rock Springs Wyoming

For September we are working on a joint rally with the Great Lakers – stay tuned. We are looking for someone to host a rally in mid to late August. If you have something in mind, now is the time to establish dates and get it on the schedule. Contact us.

Take care! Stay safe and healthy! We look forward to seeing you down the road! Contact Info: [email protected], Paul 616-540-1011 or Diana 616-540-1012.

MICHIGAN GREAT LAKERSKathy Morren (24439)PresidentWell our 2021 season has come to an end. We had a fun season with rallies this year. Our first rally was in Holland, Michigan at Holland State Park during the week leading up to the 4th of July week. Our second rally was in Cadillac, Michigan at Mitchell State Park over the Labor Day weekend.

We are busy planning rallies for the 2022 rally season. Our first rally will be held at the Aune Osborn campground located on the Saint Mary’s River in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan located in the Upper Peninsula! This will be a joint rally for the Michigan Great Lakers and the Michigan Aries.

If you would like to join us at this rally and watch the big freighters go up and down bound going to and from the Soo Locks we would love to have you join us! Reservations will open up on January 6 @ 8 am on the campground’s website. Mention the Newmar Kountry Klub when making your reservations. The dates for this rally will be May 26 to 30. Many of us are making a full Memorial week/ weekend out of this rally, so many of us are planning to arrive on May 22 or 23. https://www.saultcity.com/aune-osborn-campground.

39DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

OHIOFlash & Bev Miller (9855) Ohio State DirectorsHere it is October and we are experiencing crispy air and temperatures. Leaves are finally turning into beautiful autumn colors. Pumpkins are on porches and ‘already’ Christmas decorations are displayed in stores.

Sadly, 2021 RV rallies have ended. October 8-10 found many members and guests up north at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio. First time rally hosts Bob & Becky Kayden and Kevin & Diane Gannon certainly did not disappoint us. They kept the rally simple but made it fantastic.

Visiting the Kayden storage Condo for dinner on Friday was such a treat. What an “eye opener” as to what you can do as a “Full-Time RVer” with a storage unit, during a pandemic. Plenty of storage area for a Boat, RV, Chevy Vette and even an area to call home when not out travelling the US in their Newmar Ventana or cruising Lake Erie and living on their boat. (Bob also has a bike that he rides... IT HAS NO SEAT! Guess he can’t afford one with all his other toys). Have fun Kayden’s, you only live once.

September was a busy month for us, beginning with our State Rally in Lima, Ohio. Despite two days of monsoon rains (4-8”) and with the help of several early arriving and willing Newmar friends, we managed to get all the RVs parked (There were twenty-six coaches in attendance). Thanks to Gary Hartley who started parking folks ‘before’ Flash even woke up. Thanks also to Karen & Rich Myers, Rick Fox who took over parking ‘after’ Flash woke up and a few other folks had pitched in when we were not looking. We all looked like drowned rats by the end of day one (early-arrivals) and again on day two, the official rally start day. Thanks everyone for helping us get started.

We tried to give everyone a little different but also “safe” rally. A first for us; we had the rally at a “Fairgrounds’’ in Allen County, Lima, Ohio. The Fairgrounds Administration and Maintenance personnel were super helpful and accommodating. Indoor facilities were available to us as needed when the weather turned nasty. Our planned outdoor events were all rained and flooded out. We switched gears and moved everything to an indoor Activities Center... complete with a sound system, kitchen and restrooms, what a happy result. We then had local food truck vendors come and serve dinner, two breakfasts and a local favorite, “J & M Home Made Ice Cream” for our Dessert Night. The vendors we selected were all highly recommended and we were not disappointed.

Our opening night activities featured the “Thunder Bay” band with our own Rick Fox on drums. We were all amazed at that little drummer boy BKT-Fox and his unrealized talent What a show, great entertainment and everyone stayed until the very end.... great band Rick...Thanks.

We had three fine sponsors that helped us make the rally fun/enjoyable: MIDWAY-RV CENTER, Grand Rapids, Michigan, SkyMed, and RCD-RV SUPERCENTER, Pataskala, Ohio. RCD, our main sponsor, came with a ’22 Ventana for display, gave each couple a nice carrier bag and donated a number of great grand prizes. Thanks to all our sponsors and congratulations to all those lucky prize winners.

We were pleased to have the following NKK - Directors attending our ral ly: L lewel lyn – NKK-International; Steenwyk - Region 6; Dennis – Kentucky State; White–West Virginia State; Miller-Ohio State. Thank you all for coming and supporting our State Rally.

The BKT celebrated their 35th anniversary this year with a commemorative “laser engraved” ornament. One Commemorative “Piece” was presented to each active BKT couple that was present at our State Rally in September by BKT President Rick Fox. If you were a BKT member in 2021 but missed

our State Rally and are entitled to one of those pieces, attend one of the BKT rallies in 2022 and see Rick for your valuable ornament.

The rally this year got a little busy for us but it also was fun to see everyone enjoying themselves. We’re planning to do the State Rally again next year September 8-11. Stay tuned for more info and the location will follow soon.

Ohio now has two NKK Chapters. The new Ohio Chapter was announced at the 2021 West Virginia International Rally. The new chapter name: “Lake Erie Drifters” has planned several Rallies for 2022, check out Pres.-Joe Swartz article below. The Buckeye Kountry Travelers chapter is not done either. Pres.-Rick Fox has a great rally season planned as well.

The RV camping season has ended for us; we have put our RV to sleep for the winter. Many of you “Snowbirds” will have flown south for warmer climates while we intend to hold down the fort and keep the fires burning here in Ohio. We’re really looking forward to that “refreshing cold weather” and those “shiny little snowflakes”...not!

We hope everyone had a wonderful THANKSGIVING and wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a healthy “HAPPY NEW YEAR.” See you all in the spring. That’s all for now folks!

“As Always” we can be reached at: [email protected] (Bev), [email protected] (Flash) or 513-932-8352 (h), 937-478-9850 (c).

BUCKEYE KOUNTRY TRAVELERSRick Fox (21684)PresidentWell, here we are at the end of our 2021 Rally season and what a great season we have had! Our State Directors, Flash & Bev Miller treated us to a fantastic state rally. Yes, we had some rain, (actually, a lot of rain) but it didn’t dampen our spirits.

We had great food, and we really enjoyed the Lima/Allen County Museum. Whoever would have thought that there would be such a fantastic museum in Lima, Ohio? We were simply fascinated by the displays. Of course, we had to have lunch at Kewpees, the restaurant that Wendy’s was modeled after. We were amazed at the line in the restaurant. It didn’t matter what time of day you went by the place; it was packed. And I must say, their burgers put Wendy’s to shame (in my opinion.)

40 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022

I want to thank my bandmates from The Thunderbay Band for making the trip to Lima, Ohio from as far away as Warsaw, Kentucky to perform for our state members and I have to tell you, they are ready to do it again. Every one of them commented on how they loved the audience and their interaction with the band. Thanks Flash & Bev for the invitation.

Our next stop was the BKT Chapter Rally at the Camp Perry Campground in Port Clinton, Ohio hosted by Bob & Becky Kayden and co-hosts Kevin & Diane Gannon. The campground was fantastic, with paved and level spots. We welcomed first time chapter attendees Scott & Pam Benson and Kevin & Diane Gannon. Yes, the Gannon’s were the co-hosts of the rally…how cool is that! We also had guests Mark & Pat Boldenow and Dennis & Pat Fligor. Thank you for joining us at the rally.

So, from the small world department, I was talking with Bob and Kevin (I know, hard to believe I was talking with anyone) and Bob mentioned that Kevin was a dentist (the toothbrushes and toothpaste in the welcome bags were compliments of Kevin.) I mentioned that my dentist in Cincinnati had recently retired and had a really nice office overlooking the Ohio River. Kevin asked was your dentist? They were classmates in dental school and had been known to consume a few beverages together. Who would have known?

Friday afternoon we went to Twin Oast Brewing for appetizers and a viewing of their beautiful grounds. It was amazing with group firepits, beautiful landscaping and great people. What could make for a better afternoon? From there we went to Kayden’s storage condo for dinner. There we were treated to dinner and a short impromptu concert from a neighboring Barbershop Quartet. Saturday morning, we had a presentation by Skymed who provided us with breakfast. From there, we were on our own to see some of the area’s sights.

Our hosts provided a list of things to see and do in the area. Several of us chose to take the Jet Express to Put-In-Bay. We rented a golf cart and toured the island. What a fun place loaded with OSU fans for the game and Octoberfest goers. I have to say that the Jet Express ride back was “interesting” and fun with some of the “well lubricated” OSU fans. Sunday morning, we had a rainy breakfast and said our goodbyes for the year.

But I forgot one thing. As we were prepping for the trip, our coach steps broke. A call to Lippert determined that we needed a new motor. The campground did not accept deliveries so I gave Bob Kayden a call. He gave me his PO Box and the motor was delivered Friday morning. My thanks to Flash Miller, Gary White and Bob Peasley for weathering the rain shower that started as I slid under the coach to start the repair. As I was under the coach working on the steps, I thought, this is what this Klub is about. If one of us has a problem, there is an army of help on the way. Thanks, guys, for your help!

From there, Jeanne & I headed to our winter retreat in Port St. Lucie, Florida to get it prepped for our upcoming stay in January and February. Jeanne worked my butt off (Actually, I still have quite a bit left…lol). If you are in our area this winter give us a shout, as the Tiki Bar is always open.

As we end our year, I want to thank each and every one of our chapter members for such a successful year. Most of our members attended at least one rally. Our chapter membership has nearly doubled. I’m very blessed to have a great team of officers to lead our chapter. Our members and all of you make us what we are. Thank you so much for your efforts.

As we look forward to 2022, it looks like our Region Rally will be in May at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. Our June rally is tentatively scheduled for the Cardinal Campground in north of Columbus, Ohio. Our August rally is still in the planning stages. Joe Swartz, President of our sister chapter The Lake Erie Drifters, has approached me about having a joint October rally at the Bob Evans Farm Festival, which is always a good time. Jeanne will keep everyone posted with updated information on next years’ rallies.

Congratulations to our sister chapter, The Lake Erie Drifters on a successful first rally. I’ve heard (and seen from the photos) that a great time was had by all of the attendees. Ohio has two great chapters…so everyone…get out and enjoy what Ohio has to offer!

I hope that you all have a Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing all of you in 2022. I can be reached at 513-616-8914 or [email protected].

LAKE ERIE DRIFTERSJoe & Gail Swartz (20562) President & Interim SecretaryWelcome to all the new and future chapter Members of the Lake Erie Drifters. Gail & I would like to say what a great time we had at our Erie Island resort Rally in October. We had nine coaches with nineteen charter members in attendance.

After the welcome dinner of hot dogs, baked beans, chips etc. we sat around the campfire and talked about how wonderful it was to meet new people and just relax. Saturday morning we had a nice breakfast of french toast, sausage, fruit and juice. I was able to procure the use of a New Full size Bronco courtesy of Ford Motor Co. for everyone to drive and see how they liked it. All said they liked it except Mark Boldenow who is a Jeep fan, oh well you can’t please everyone.

Saturday afternoon we all went to the Aviation Museum in Port Clinton. Six of us daring souls went for a ride in a 1928 Ford Tri Motor airplane; and what a thrill it was! A picture of the plane is below. We then went to Gideon Owen Wine Co. in Port Clinton for a wonderful dinner and great time of friendship.

We departed Sunday morning after breakfast and a chapter meeting and some said they could hear Mark Boldenow screaming BEST RALLY EVER. New Chapter bars have been ordered and we will get them to you ASAP.

We are finalizing our schedule for next year and as of now we have chapter rallies planned.

1. May 18-22 Region 6 Rally at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds located in Berea, Ohio.

2. June 16-19 chapter rally scheduled at the Artillery Ridge Campground in Gettysburg 717-334-1288. We were able to reserve 15 sites. You can make reservations now.

3. July 16-23 is the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

4. August 26-28 (with August 25 for early arrivals) Lake Erie Drifters have a rally at Evergreen RV Resort (phone #888-359-6429) on Route 250 in Mt. Eaton, Ohio. There are sites that have been reserved for us. It is necessary to call and reserve

41DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

one of those spots by January 31st. After that they will be released to the general public.

5. We think that the Ohio State Rally will be held in September, but we are not positive.

6. October 14-16, Lake Erie Drifters have a rally scheduled for the Bob Evans Festival in Gallipolis, Ohio at the Gallia Junior County Fairgrounds on US 35. There are 20 sites reserved for us in the upper section of the campground. Please call and make your reservations after Jan 31, 2022. The cost is $25 a night with full hookup phone # 740-466-4120.

7. Bill White the West Virginia State Director advised us of his West Virginia State Rally June 1-5 in Moundsville, West Virginia. He hopes that some of us can make it. He also stated that he would like to have a joint rally with the Lake Erie Drifters and his state.

Looks like it’s going to be a great year coming up, also keep in mind our sister chapter the Buckeye Kountry Travelers to possibly attend some of their rallies. We are thinking of doing a get together sometime over the Holidays if that sounds like something you would like to do give Gail or myself a call.

We want to wish our entire Newmar family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! We can be reached by email: [email protected] or [email protected] or by phone 440-476-5306 (Gail).

WEST VIRGINIABill and Beth White (20471)West Virginia State Directors West Virginia Traveling MountaineersIt’s sad that the camping season is coming to a close, but our last trek was definitely memorable! We had planned to take the Mississippi River Run with Fantasy, but opted to stay closer home and attend Newmar functions instead.

We started our adventure with the Ohio State Rally in Lima. Bev & Flash Miller did an outstanding job entertaining everyone who attended the event at the Allen County Fairgrounds. Rick Fox and his band, Thunder Bay, got the rally off to a roaring start playing 60s and 70s music that we all knew and could sing along. We toured the Allen County Historical Society Museum and the MacDonnell House, a Victorian mansion; ate at Kewpees; Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn; and Sarah’s Gourmet Cupcakes. We certainly celebrated the Ohio Buckeyes 35th Anniversary.

We then went to Port Clinton, Ohio for the very first rally of Ohio’s Lake Erie Drifters. Joe & Gail Swartz hosted the newly chartered chapter at the “Resort at Erie Landing” and had a great turn out. We visited the Aviation Museum that told the story of the Ford Tri-Motor airplanes that provided mail service to the island in Lake Erie. Six members flew in an old 1928 Tri-Motor plane. The next day we journeyed to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Hays’ home, Spiegel House in Fremont, Ohio.

The next day, Joe borrowed a 2021 Ford Bronco from a local dealer and allowed us to take a test drive. It’s a very comfortable ride, and we almost bought it.

The next weekend, Bob & Becky Kayden and Devin & Diane Gannon co-hosted the Buckeye’s last rally of the year in Port Clinton at “Camp Perry,” a large Ohio National Guard Camp. One of the highlights was a reception at Kayden’s storage condo. This huge storage unit was big enough to hold a 33-foot cruiser and a 45 foot motorhome side by side. In the back there was an apartment and storage unit with a balcony that had a bedroom and lounge chair while downstairs was a kitchen and bathroom. Impressive!

Many took the ferry to Put-In-Bay for the day while others toured Port Clinton. We spent a lazy afternoon with Bev & Flash Miller, checking out the festivities at Lakeside and Marblehead Lighthouse and ended the day with Toft’s Ice Cream. You’ve never been to an ice cream joint until you have taken Flash — he needs no cone!

The last of our four-week tour was spent in Florence, Indiana for the last Indiana rally of the year. Hosts Kenny & Connie Beckett welcomed us at the “Follow The River RV Park” which is a very beautiful location on the Ohio River just below a set of river locks.

We arrived late to the RV Park but Kenny was there to meet us and show us our camping spot. The reason for our lateness was on the way to Indiana, we had an incident that caused us to have to replace our old 2014 Jeep Cherokee. A person in a flat-bed truck cut us off causing Bill to have to stand on the brakes. Apparently, the toad brakes did not engage and the force of the sudden stop caused the attachment points on the Jeep to tear out. The Jeep stopped about 2 inches from the back of the London Aire with only the tow bar keeping us from having a badly damaged motorhome. The old Blue Ox tow bar did its job and saved us. We were sad to see the Cherokee go. It had over 60,000 miles on it and had been towed over 100,000 miles, but the insurance company said it was a total loss. Beth is now the proud owner of a 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid. It got over 45 MPG on the way home and we both love it.

During our stay in Florence we visited the Ohio County Historical Society Museum in Rising Sun, Indiana. This museum was housed in an old chair factory and contained the first electric chair in the US and the local jail. There was a whole room dedicated to the exploits of JW Whitlock and his inventions and innovations. One of his inventions was an automatic harp which he patented in 1899 and it was such a success that he was able to finance, build and pilot one of the fastest speed boats on the Ohio River in the early 1900s.

One of the highlights of the Indiana trip was a visit to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, a very interesting old town with a great little food truck and a store that contained products for sale that were popular in 60s and 70s such as Beeman’s and Black Jack Gum and Moon Pies.

After four weeks on the road, we are home. We are finalizing plans for the 2022 West Virginia State Rally together. It will be held in Moundsville, West Virginia the first weekend of June. It should be an interesting rally. We’ll have more details in our next column.

Have a safe winter! God Bless you all. We can be reached by email: [email protected].

As we look back over this past year the Newmar Kountry Klub’s Directors and office staff would like to say a huge THANK YOU to our region and state/provincial directors, chapter officers, rally hosts and volunteers. Everyone worked past the challenges of 2020; setting up great rallies and opportunities to travel and meet up with fellow Klub members in 2021. Here’s to making 2022 even better!

NEW ENGLAND STATESJim and Donna McAllister (21866)New England States DirectorsHello from New England. As we write this in late October most of the campgrounds have closed for the season in New England. We recently got back from the Region 7 Rally in Boothbay, Maine hosted by Bob & Jane Hadley. What a great rally to end our season with. It was well attended with folks from all over Region 7 and well beyond. The weather was perfect and as promised the menu was lobster, lobster, and lobster.

We are currently on our way to Florida after making a stop in Nappanee for a bit of service work. We have plans for a trip to Disney’s Fort Wilderness with our Grandchildren in December and then expect to attend the Newmar Rally at the Tampa show in January.

Looking forward to next year, registration is open for a number of 2022 rallies in New England. We will be hosting the New England Sates Rally at Danforth Bay Camping and RV Resort from June 2-5.

The New England Aires have rallies scheduled at Apple Island Resort in South Hero, Vermont from August 24-28 hosted by Rich & Jackie Frigon and then in September at Atlantic Oaks RV Resort on Cape Cod from September 28-25 hosted by Christine Patnode & Andy Couto. All of these can be found on the Kountry Klub web site.

As always, we are asking for your help with finding new rally sites throughout New England. Please let us know if you have visited a campground that you believe may be suitable for a rally.

We hope you all have a happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the future.

We can be reached by cell or email: 207-468-0601 [email protected] or 207-468-0600 [email protected].

NEW ENGLAND AIRES Rich & Jackie Frigon (21912)PresidentsThe fall brings different approaches to our RVing lifestyle. Some of us will winterize and empty some things from the coach. Others will head to warmer climates to avoid using the dreaded pink stuff in the water lines and seeing the white stuff on the ground. Jackie & I will be headed to Florida Grande in Webster, Florida, to work remotely in the warmer weather.

We look forward to 2022 with three exciting destination rallies planned here in New England. All three rallies are posted on the NKK website so register quickly so you don’t miss out.

REGION 7 // CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT

Greetings from Region 7. It’s Happy Holiday Season for 2021/2022. Where has this year gone? Rally season for us this year is over.

We attended the New England States Rally in Connecticut. It was held at the beautiful property owned by the La Roses, chapter members of the New England

Aires, in Canterbury, Connecticut. It was dry camping, and everyone accepted the challenge of boondocking, and all passed with flying colors. These Newmar coaches are the greatest! We were delighted to see George & Cathy Keith, past New England States Directors, at the rally. We took this opportunity at our Saturday night dinner to honor them and thank them for their commitment over the years as state directors. An enameled US flag was presented to them to hang in their new home as our way of saying thank you. We wish the Keith’s well and we know we will see them at future rallies.

Next it was off to our Region 7 Rally in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. We had a great time enjoying all that Boothbay had to offer. We had 40 coaches, as far away as Michigan and California, registered for rally but sad to say a few members had to cancel at the last minute. Mother Nature was good to us with sunny days and cool nights. As Bob promised there was lobster on the menu every day. Saturday was our lobster bake and it was so much fun to see everyone (especially first timers) attack the lobster!!

Boothbay is such a beautiful coastal area to visit in the northeast. Many members took advantage of the good weather to charter a sailboat to cruises around the harbor looking for lighthouses. The Botanical Gardens was visited by many as well as the Boothbay Railway Village. Thursday night we took great pleasure in recognizing Bob & Barb Engel, New York State Directors, for 10 years of service to the Klub and wish them well. An enameled US Flag was given to them as a thank you for all they have done to help our region grow into what it is today.

During the rally we were able to gather all our state directors and chapter officers together to discuss the future of our region and answer any questions that they had.

A great big thank you to RV ONE for all the help they have given our region rallies. Mark Strollo of RV One in Albany has been very generous over the years with support for our Klub. Stop by at RV One and thank the Strollo’s for their interest and generosity in our Klub.

Looking forward to rally season 2022. We will start the year off at the Tampa Super Show Rally, January 19-24. We will be at the North Trail Venue Site promoting the Klub. We want to thank North Trail for their hospitality in letting us set up a booth to meet both current members and potential new Newmar owners.

Hope to see many of you at the International Rally in Rock Springs, Wyoming July 16-23, 2022.

NEW JERSEYMichael & Barbara Agrati (20411)New Jersey State Directors, Treasurer and Secretary We are trying not to let the grass grow under our feet as we are on our way to the Hudson Aires Rally in Lake George, New York. What a beautiful time to spend in the Adirondacks. Thanks to all for a great time with wonderful friends, food and fellowship.

Barbara & I then decided to head east from Lake George to Wells, Maine. We love Maine and decided to spend some time in the lower part of Maine before heading north along the coast to Booth Bay. While in Booth Bay we were joined by many Newmar coaches as part of the Region 7 Rally which was hosted by our Region 7 Directors, Bob & Jane Hadley. Bob & Jane said there would be lobster and they weren’t kidding. It’s always interesting in watching how people dissect and eat lobster. Some will sit for hours while others will just eat the tail and decide they are done. A fun experience.

After we left Booth Bay, we headed to Cape Cod for a few days. Nothing like the Cape in the fall with the fall foliage and the bike riding on the rail trail.

Award of AppreciationBob & Jane have been the Region 7 Directors since 2013 (8 years). So, we along with other members of Region 7, we decided it was time to show them our appreciation for all that they have done. While at the Region 7 Rally in Booth Bay, Maine we presented them with a Plaque and a gift which indicated their dedication, leadership and commitment to our Region. Our Klub’s success has earned them our highest esteem and gratitude. Thank You

NEW JERSEY GARDEN AIRESApril Danley & Colin Smith (23305)President and Vice President Well, another summer has come and gone, and for Colin & I we have had a wonderful summer meetings and making new friends. We have had the pleasure to help a young couple pick out, and order there very first 5th wheel so they can start making memories like so many of us have done over the years! It’s times like these that take us back to when we were young and starting to make memories with our own families. By the way the 5th wheel was ordered in September and was told it would be 4 to 5 months till delivery. Great! In time for the start of the 2022 camping season, and they have asked Colin & I to go with them on their very first camping trip. Of course, we already have reservations! Going to be so much fun!

We have been working on our New Jersey State Rally which is scheduled for May 5-8 at The Depot Travel Park, 800 Broadway, West Cape May, NJ 08204. Contact information: 609-884-2533 www.thedepottravelpark.com. You call to make your reservations, then you have to send a check for your deposit. (They do not take credit

cards) Then register on the Newmar Kountry Klub website under Klub Calendar scroll down to New Jersey State Rally Click on it and you will have all the information. At the bottom fill out the form. Then we will know you are coming. Hope to see you there!

Colin & I want to wish each and every one of you the Happiest and Healthiest of Holidays!

Safe travels to all who will be heading for warmer weather! See You Down the Road. We can be reached at email: [email protected].

NEW YORKJohn & Diane Svatek (21793)New York State DirectorsAs the rally season winds down, we’ve enjoyed attending several rallies recently, including the Hudson Aires Lake George and Cooperstown rallies, Region 7 gathering in Maine, and the Lakers end-of-season annual meeting. We appreciate the hosts’ efforts in organizing these events. We’re looking forward to getting back to Sarasota, Florida for the winter months, and seeing friends at the Tampa RV Supershow.

At the Region 7 rally in Boothbay Harbor, nine coaches represented New York State. The Lakers and Hudson Aires chapters sponsored Friday morning’s breakfast. We thank Bill Nixon for his mastery of cooking scrambled eggs for 80 guests, the grill masters for bacon, and the ladies for making toast at various stations in order to not keep popping the circuit breakers in the building.

Bob & Barbara Engel were presented with a plaque from the New York State chapters in appreciation of their ten years of service as New York State NKK directors. We wish them well in their future adventures.

Looking ahead to 2022: Please register online at the Klub Calendar.New York State: May 12-15, Swan Bay. Swan Bay RV Resort and Marina is located in Alexandria Bay, NY along the St. Lawrence River. The Full-Timers chapter held their pre-International rally (Syracuse) here in 2019 and gave it a big thumbs up. 25 sites are being held for us.

Lakers: May 20-22, Southwoods RV Resort in Byron, New YorkInternational Rally: July 16-23. Rock Springs, Wyoming. See you there! Hudson Aires: September 18-22, Lake George Riverview Park, Warrensburg, New York

HUDSON AIRESJohn & Diane Svatek (21793)President and SecretaryFall is here, camping season is winding down, and the rig is finally getting a chance to cool down after all the miles traveled to attend four rallies in a month.

Lake George: We enjoyed being with several out-of-state NKK members. Cruising the lake on the Mohican for 2 ½ hours was both educational and entertaining. Driving to the Adirondack Experience Museum in Blue Mountain Lake revealed beautiful fall colors along the way as we headed north through higher elevations. The museum offers a wealth of Adirondack history and is well worth the visit. Thanks to Albany RV for sponsoring a delicious BBQ dinner, and pizza the night of arrival. Lake George RV Park provided a roaring fire in the covered bonfire pavilion for our last night.

44 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022

Cooperstown: Three hours down the road from Lake George, we landed at Highland Hills Campground. Rally hosts Steve & Karen Clark did a great job organizing the sites, food and activities. Our six coaches showed up with flags and banners promoting NKK and the Hudson Aires, and several other campers stopped by to remark on how impressive our line-up was! We were treated to a delicious catered meal the first night, held in the shelter of the pavilion. Activities were a la carte, with some people heading to the Baseball Hall of Fame or Farmer’s Museum, others choosing to shop, hike and/or relax at the campsites. Thanks again to Albany RV for sponsoring our lunch at the Upstate Bar and Grill.

Boothbay Harbor, Maine: The Region 7 Rally, held at Shore Hills RV Park, hosted by Bob & Jane Hadley, was quite the experience and we were happy to be there. Lobster was the theme of the gathering, and we certainly ate our fill. One adventure was hiking out to a small island off the campground and returning 20 minutes later to find four inches of water to wade through thanks to the incoming tide. Since it was late in the season, trying to find an open ice-cream stand was a challenge, but perseverance met with success. Many of us visited the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens that offers miles of trails with flowers, trees, birds and bees, along with five 30 foot high wooden trolls, which have to be seen to be believed. Since we last visited three years ago, the grounds have been expanded and a new visitor’s center was built.

Caledonia, New York: We finally headed to western New York and the Lakers end-of-season rally. More good food in the form of a delicious pancake and French toast breakfast, and turkey dinner. Thanks to Bill Nixon and Chris Foley for their expert cooking. In spite of rainy, cool weather, we drove to Letchworth State Park to try out the newly opened ADA accessible sensory trail, which was designed with autistic and special needs individuals and families in mind. It is a wonderful example of what parks can do to accommodate a variety of needs. We then headed north to Lake Ontario, visiting Hamlin State Park. Seeing the lake again was nostalgic as we met at Oswego State College in the early ‘70’s, and the lake was an important feature of our college days.

On to 2022: Save the dates and register ASAP for:New York State: May 12-15. Swan Bay. Swan Bay Resort is located in Alexandria Bay, New York along the St. Lawrence River. The Full-Timers chapter held their pre-International rally (Syracuse) here in 2019 and gave it a big thumbs up. 25 sites are being held for us.

Hudson Aires: September 18-22. Lake George Riverview Park, Warrensburg, New York, which is close to both Lake George to the south and the Adirondacks to the north, and all they have to offer for activities and scenery. Warrensburg is home to Oscar’s Smokehouse, which is highly recommended by Rachael Ray.

A boondocking weekend is in the works for Central New York. Details to follow.

We can be reached at [email protected] or 518-928-6268.

NEW YORK LAKERSSteve & Joanne Wyble (22701)President and SecretaryAs this is written, October is here and this brings us to the close of our camping season in the New York. Not wanting to go out quietly, we went out with a bang and had two great rallies. We started out with the Region 7 Rally in Boothbay, Maine. We arrived a week early to spend more time seeing the sights. Maine has the most spectacular

coast line you will see in the eastern US. Shore Hills was a great campground and even the weather cooperated with most days in the 60’s. The views from all around Boothbay and especially Pemaquid Point Lighthouse were amazing. The menu was heavily dosed in lobster. Not sure if lobsterholic is a word but Joanne is one. Having a large contingent from New York attending, this was a good time to honor Bob & Barb Engel with a plaque as they retire as New York State Directors after 10 years of service. As this will be the last Region 7 Rally hosted by retiring Region 7 Directors, Bob & Jane Hadley, they were also presented with a plaque honoring their service.

Our final rally was a traditional Lakers October rally including a Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday and a Christmas brunch on Sunday. The brunch includes some of our honorary members and gives everyone a chance to catch up. John & Diane were introduced as new New York State Directors. We look forward to working with them and helping to grow New York. Many thanks for Bill Nixon and Chris Foley for hosting another great rally.

We can be reached at [email protected] or 585-721-0868.

PENNSYLVANIAWayne & Sue Burke (20367)Pennsylvania State DirectorsFall is in the air, therefore we headed south and we are now at our winter location! The address is different than we have had the last 5 years, so we will list it at the end of this note.

We had a great time at the Region 7 Rally in Boothbay, Maine. Of course, whenever heading to Maine you just don’t go to one location, so we went to Wells, and Kennebunkport with the Fegley’s prior to the rally for a few days, which was just beautiful.

The West Penn Travelers have already scheduled their rally 2022. It is going to be a Pittsburg Rally hosted by Paul & Joan Robbins. The dates are Monday June 6th - Friday June 10th at Fox Den Acres Campground. This is going to be a big and busy rally which will include tour of Fort Ligonier, tour of Carrie Blast Furnace, Bubushka and Hard Hat lunch at Pump House, Boat tour of the three rivers and much more. It will be listed in the Klub Calendar for more information.

Penns Friends has scheduled their next rally for September 21-25 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This will be at the Hershey Road Campground and we are limited to seventeen sites. The agenda is just now being set up, but you know Hershey is the Chocolate Capital of the World so you can count on that being part of it. There will be more information to come in the next issue on this rally.

After five rallies this year, Sue & I are looking forward to a month or two of just not being behind the wheel for a while. We hope, if you are in Southwest Florida, you take time to stop by and say hello, our door is always open!

We look forward to seeing a lot of our friends at the Tampa RV Show with the Newmar Group and then we are looking forward to being a part of the Florida State Rally with Greg & Margie Harrop in April. They always put on a great rally.

Stay Safe – Stay Healthy – Keep the shiny side up! We can be reached at [email protected] Cell: 570-470-3631. Florida address: 2905 NW 18th Terrace, Cape Coral, FL 33993.

PENN’S FRIENDSCary and Carol Duncan (226730)PresidentsHi all from Penn’s Friends. Hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather. We went to the International Rally in July, and enjoyed the activities, seminars and performers especially the Elvis impersonator. In September we attended the Pennsylvania State Rally in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Another great job by our State Directors, Wayne & Sue Burke. Glad to see old friends and meet new ones. Although the Grand Canyon was closed due to recent flooding, we still had plenty to do.

We have just came back from our 34-day RV trip down along the Mississippi River. It started in Bemidji, Minnesota where the headwaters of Mississippi start. You can wade across the stream coming from the lake. Carol waded across and we walked over the first bridge to cross her. We continued downstream ending in New Orleans with a float plane ride and Riverboat Dinner Cruise. We enjoyed meeting new friends and how well they all get along and become one happy group of RVer’s.

Next stop is our winter residence in Fort Myers, Florida. In January we are going to the Tampa RV Show with the Newmar group.

The Penn’s Friends rally will be in September 21-25 at the Hershey Road Campground in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania (thank you Phil Horan for finding this and Brian Hubler for putting this together). They have set aside premium pull through sites 140-157 for us. They would like us to call and make your reservation after January 1, 2022 and put down a deposit of $79-$89. Estimated site total for the weekend is around $375. When you call make sure you mention Penn’s Friends. More details to follow with details of activities and cost. Hope to have that completed before 1st of the year. Campground contact information: Hershey Road Campground, 1688 Hershey Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, phone 844-476-6737.

Hope to see some of you in Florida this year. You can always reach us at [email protected] and cell 610-637-1652

WEST PENN TRAVELERSJon C. and Roxann Yon (24213)PresidentsBy the time you read this we will have already separated into two factions … those of us that must “brave out” another winter “UP North” and those that will have comfortable knee and hip joints through spring. Rox & I hope that the Snowbird travels all went smoothly and safely. We will miss seeing many of you on a regular basis and look forward to the day when our work/retirement schedules allow us to spend time “down south” with you.

As we bring another wacky year to a conclusion, it is time to make sure you have a reservation for the West Penn Traveler’s 2022 rally. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania … here we come! The PITTSBURGH RALLY will be exciting and unique in several aspects. First … the dates are MONDAY, June 6-FRIDAY, June 10. This mid-week, non-weekend event offers the best availability of activities, events and camp sites. Second … the rally will be at the Fox Den Acres Campground in New Stanton, Pennsylvania. This campground is beautiful, has pull-thru spots, is ¼-mile from the nearest limited access highway, AND … it is only $37.00 per night when you reserve to be part of the West Penn Travelers rally. Fox Den Acres also provides the easiest and closest access to our destination events … Three Rivers.

Our rally hosts, Paul & Joan Robbins, have many unique and exciting activities planned for our W.P.T. rally. From an historical and landmark

tour of Pittsburgh … on land and on water (paddleboat) … to stops at the Carrie Furnace and Fort Ligonier … to exquisite tastes of true Pittsburgh (Halupki, Haluski, Pierogies and the famous Pgh. Cookie Table sampler). FUN … FOOD … and FRIENDS! What more could you want?

But you need to call the campground NOW to secure your site. As of October 30 we already have a dozen paid reservations. We were guaranteed 17 sites, but the campground is willing to offer more sites to those who make their campsite reservations as soon as possible. We are also promoting this rally to our friends and neighbors in West Virginia and the new chapter from Ohio. And the beauty is that Fox Den Acres will make and hold your reservation without a deposit. Sooo … CALL OR RESERVE ON-LINE NOW – Fox Den Acres Campground – foxdenacres.com/reservations/ or at 724-925-7054. Please be advised that campsite fees can only be paid in CASH upon your arrival … No Credit Cards accepted.

Our chapter is now one year old and has grown to include 28 member coaches. We have just published our first Chapter Newsletter and are working hard to support next year’s rally and plan for more Western Pennsylvania rallies in the future. If you have suggestions for such places, please send Rox & I an email. Also, if you decide to have a “Pop-up” rally (unofficial, self-pay, self-determined gathering), let us know so we can publicize it to the chapter members via our email/listserve. We wish for all a very safe winter and a glorious holiday season.

Keep your black tanks down, your antennas up, and a fair wind behind your TOAD.

You can always reach Roxann & I via email: [email protected] or by leaving a text or voice message at 814-935-4414.

47DECEMBER 2021 / JANUARY 2022 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

I saw a sign the other day that said: “U.S. to lift Canada, Mexico land border restrictions in November for vaccinated visitors”. Thousands of us snowbirds have had their wings clipped for a very long time, so this is very welcome news for us all. There are numerous humorous postings on the social web sites about how the border crossing will look on the opening day scheduled for November

9th. By the time you read this it will be all over and in the history books.

As we travelled in Mexico some time ago, we came across this picture painted on the wall in and RV park. It reminded me of the Flat Matt days where we were give a picture of Matt Miller to take along on our travels the put him into our pictures in places we visited.

This might be a great time to revisit this fun event but this time use a picture of our motorhome on a stick….. Give it some thought.

The Canadian Snowbird Association has a great article to bring us all up to date on the rules to cross into USA and return to Canada. Check their web site for more information.

Merry Christmas! “May the true spirit of Christmas shine in your heart and light your path.” “Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Christmas.” Wishing you a happy New Year! May it be filled with new adventures and good fortunes.

Keep The Date: • International Rally: Rock Springs Wyoming on July 16 - 23, 2022.• Region 9 Rally: Glowing Embers RV Park Acheson, AB on July 28 -30, 2022.

As always, our door is always open, and we look forward to all comments and suggestions.

BRITISH COLUMBIAWayne & Doris Erickson (20938)British Columbia Provincial DirectorsHi everyone! First off, Wayne and I want to congratulate the British Columbia Dogwood Klub for reaching their 25th Anniversary! We celebrated at the Canyon Hot Springs, near Revelstoke, British Columbia and had many fun and memorable moments and lots of fun!

Next is to do a HAPPY DANCE 😊. The border if finally open and Wayne & I are heading to Arizona for several months!

We also want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Take care, stay safe and hope to see you soon.

REGION 9 // AB, BC, MB, NT, SK, YT

Region Directors :: Dave & Joanne Killey (16152-L)

BRITISH COLUMBIA DOGWOOD KLUBJohn & Kathy Schretlen (21536)PresidentsHello from Vancouver, British Columbia. The Christmas season is coming so I’ll borrow a style from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and look at the past, the present and what’s yet to come.

The Past. The NKK Region 9, British Columbia Provincial and the British Columbia Dogwood Klub 25th Anniversary COMBINED RALLY was held in September at Canyon Hot Springs Resort about 30 minutes east of Revelstoke, British Columbia. Considering the Canada/US border was still closed to non-essential travel we were pleased that we had over a dozen coaches and drive in visitors who stayed in an on-site cabin. One couple drove out from Manitoba, some came from Alberta, but the majority were from BC. It was especially pleasing to welcome first timers and I think we put on a pretty good rally as they all left keen for more.

The Present: Hoo-ray the Canada/US border is open both ways for non-essential traffic. That means we can drive our own rigs across, and many have already done so. That, for some, was an early Christmas Present. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Healthy & Happy New Year.

The Future: One hope for the future is that we can all get in our Newmar coaches and put many miles or kilometers behind us as we look for sun, scenic sights, rallies and relaxation.

I suppose that many directors will have already mentioned the International Rally in Wyoming and our Region 9 Director has mentioned the upcoming Region 9 Rally in Alberta just after the International Rally. So I’ll mention that the British Columbia Dogwood Klub is looking at hosting a rally as well. Ours will be just before the International Rally. We are still in the pre-planning stages but in September we talked about having a rally in Southeastern British Columbia on July 8-10. That would

leave five days for driving to the International Rally, perhaps as a group. We should have more details in the next Legacy magazine but put those dates in your calendar for planning purposes.

Stay healthy and drive safe. Take care.

ALBERTA WILD ROSE KLUBDoug & Sylvia Anderson (21536)Ray & Karen Shepherd (20847)With a difficult two years of camping interrupted by the Covid 19 pandemic now almost behind us, our Alberta Wild Rose Klub executive have met and decided to ring in the year 2022 with a clean slate. Our coffers are far from over-flowing but our Aspen Crossing Rally held in 2019 was a financial success so we have commenced preliminary decisions over our financial and operational plans for the benefit of our members and get our chapter back into action in May 2022.Subject to governmental health regulations we plan to hold our AWRK rally in conjunction with the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of Alberta (RVDA) Learning Weekend which is normally held close to or on the May 24th long weekend at Ol’ MacDonalds at Buffalo Lake near Stettler, Alberta. More information will be passed along to our members as we firm up the arrangements for this year’s rally. Wishing you and your families a happy, safe and healthy holiday season.

Cancellation Policy For Region, State, Provincial Rallies

Due to the large number of late cancellations, the Kountry Klub has experienced significant financial losses from non-refundable commitments made during the planning stages.A new Region, State/Provincial Rally “Cancellation Policy” is being implemented.1) An administrative fee of $10/person will be charged. This fee will cover

costs associated with processing your rally registration and will be included in the rally fees as advertised.

2) Members who register for a rally and then:a) For whatever reason, cancel a minimum of 35 days prior to the start

of the rally will receive a full refund, less the administrative fee of $10/person.

b) Cancel 34 to 8 days prior to the start of a rally will be charged for any non-refundable commitments made on your behalf in addition to the $10/person fee.

c) Cancel 7 or less days prior to the start of a rally will receive No Refund on any portion of the rally fee paid.

3) Members who register for a rally and do not advise the Hosts that they will not be attending will receive no refund.

4) All refunds will be made at the conclusion of the rally.

PLEASE NOTE: Planning any rally requires long-term organization. Many service providers require non-refundable financial commitments. Because these deposits and financial commitments are often made well in advance of any rally, this policy becomes a necessity.

Please notify the Kountry Klub immediately if you have to cancel your trip.

Cancellations will be accepted for Special Travel Events and Caravan Tours on the following conditions:

a) A $25.00 per person cancellation fee will be charged anytime you cancel an event reservation.

b) For reservations cancelled 69 days to 30 days from the start of the event, you are responsible for all non-refundable portions of the financial commitments paid out by the Klub on your behalf for the event plus $25.00 per person cancellation fee.

c) If you cancel 29 days or less prior to the event, you will receive no refund until after the event and receive only that portion the Kountry Klub can recover. The $25.00 per person cancellation fee still applies.

d) Deposit must be with reservations and full payment must be to be confirmed.

Cancellation Policy applies to the following Events:• Rally In The Keys – December 5-11, 2021• Tampa SuperShow Rally – January 18-23, 2022• Newfoundland Caravan – May 16-June 29, 2022• Black Hills Rally – May 18-25, 2022• Taste of the West Caravan – July 23-August 15, 2022• Alaska Caravan – July 23-September 10, 2022

Please Note: The Kountry Klub must pay some non-refundable financial commitments and deposits well in advance of events. We cannot absorb losses on last minute cancellations, and we will no longer do so. These commitments make this cancellation policy a necessity. We thank you for your understanding.

Welcome ARE YOU COMING TO THE 2022 INTERNATIONAL RALLY

IN A CARAVAN GROUP (4 units or more)

OR LEADING A GROUP TO THE RALLY?

If so, please read and follow the important procedures below:

The location in Rock Springs, Wyoming will be unique, as all parking will be done by the length of units. It is extremely important that all groups coming in register as a caravan so we can pre-plan the length of your group’s units and parking locations. This year we will all have 50 amp full hookups.

The caravan leader must email the Klub office [email protected] by Monday, January 24, 2022 the complete list of members in their caravan, including the name, Klub number, length of unit and the date they will all register on line. The caravan will not be considered complete and ready to process until all caravan reservations are received. We will hold all reservations if we have to contact a member with incomplete information.

Please be sure the caravan attendees all register for the same date of arrival. Basic rally fee includes Saturday, July 16 arrival and departure on Saturday, July 23. You will have the option to register for early arrival in your permanent parking location on Friday, July 15. They should also add the caravan group name/leader to the comment section so we can manually match the group together.

We will once again be offering separate bookdocking one night prior to your scheduled arrival date. If the caravan group is planning to boondock be sure everyone indicates that on the rally reservation form.

Registration will begin on our website Monday, February 7th at 8:00 am eastern time. On that date simply go to www.newmarkountryklub.com click on Klub Calendar and then 2022 International Rally.

If you have any questions please contact Linda Feece at the Klub office at either [email protected] or 877-639-5582.
