Aadham (Alai)

Section 1:

Before the creation of mortal, Almighty Allah directed all the angels to assemble. Thousands upon thousands of angels (created from light) and Jinns (created from fire) gathered in groups. They bowed respectfully in the presence of Almighty Allah. The Creator of the universe declared that he intended to create the man and sought their counsel. The angels and Iblis (Shaitaan) disapproved the idea and pointed out that human beings would cause disorder on the earth. They would make mischief and shed blood indiscriminately. Allah taught Aadham (Alai) the names of all things and inculcated into his mind the knowledge of their properties.

After that Allah questioned Aadham (Alai) in the presence of all angels about the names of different objects. He gave correct answers on the basis of this superiority. Allah asked all the angels to bow as a mark of respect to Aadham (Alai) who was created so miraculously.

When the angels heard the Commandment of Almighty Allah, they all complied without hesitation. They bowed with respect and admiration to the new creation and that was Aadham (Alai). However Iblis (Shaitaan) did not surrender on various pretexts and stood still.

Iblis disobeyed Allah and became defiant. He arrogantly refused to accept the authority of a man. Iblis thought himself superior to human being. As a result, God expelled Shaitaan from the Garden of Bliss and deprived him of all Divine favours. Shaitaan requested Almighty Allah to allow him to exist until the Day of Judgement. I would bring most of the descendants of Aadham(Alai) under my sway. I would lead them astray from the Right Path. Allah gave him respite.

Devil is, in fact, an evil spirit which tempts the man to indulge in sins. It invites the heart to do bad deeds and disobey Allah. It tries to weaken our sense of morality but if we are spiritually too strong to yield to its temptations, we become immune from all sins. Those who follow the Commandments of Allah, invite God's grace to protect them. On the other hand those who deliberately follow the wrong way are responsible because they put themselves into the hands of Evil Spirit.

In order to remove the lonesomeness of Aadham(Alai), a female mate named Hawa was created. The Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him) and his wife Hawa were given a place in the Garden (of Bliss) to reside.

The Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him) and his wife Hawa continued enjoying each other‟s company and carefully avoiding that specific prohibited tree. Iblis became very jealous when he saw the favours of the Almighty Allah on the Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him) and he began to devise ways and means to humiliate them. He kept on making evil suggestions to the couple in a sneaky way. He tried to persuade them to approach the prohibited tree.

On hearing this both Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him) and Hawa became curious. They started wondering as to why God did not want them to approach the specific tree. This temptation gradually became stronger but Allah guided them alright and warned that not to be taken in by the evil suggestions of Iblis. The Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him) and his wife used to live happily in the Garden of Bliss. They were endowed with the knowledge to discriminate

رينة الصابمدرس Page 5

between good and evil. They were also warned of the power of evil. They overpowered all sorts of evil temptations at first and tried hard to ward off the influence of Shaitaan. But he made numerous attempts to misguide them off and on. Finally Shaitaan succeeded in his mission and made them approach that specific tree. Instantly evil consequences appeared.

The Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him) and Hawa followed the temptations of Iblis and were deprived of the heavenly bliss. They were, however, overflowed with grief. They requested Almighty Allah to forgive them. Allah, the Most Merciful accepted their repentance and chose them for His mercy. At the same time He dispelled them from the Garden of Bliss. They became ordinary people. They had to live like us for only a certain span of life on this earth. They would be recreated again to be judged for their actions on the Day of Judgement.

They lived for many years. Allah sent directions and guidance to the Prophet Aadham (peace be upon him). He taught others about the religion of Allah. He advised his followers to do good and avoid evils. He told the people to act upon the Commandments of Allah and follow his guidance. It would serve the purpose of shield to do away with the attacks of the devil.

Section 3:

How can you apply this in your daily life?

By following Allahu SWT and not following the evil doings of the devil To understand that following Allahu SWT‟s guidance wards off attacks

of the devil

“Behold! We said to the angels "Bow down to Aadham": they bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrongdoers!”

Idris (Alai) Section 1:

Prophet Idris (peace be upon him) told his people to believe in only Allah and to give up believing in their idols. He told them to not be obsessed by the life in this world and its wealth and things. He taught them about prayer and fasting and charity. And do you know what else he taught his people? He also told them not to drink alcohol or wine.

Well, just like the people of other prophets, some followed Idris (Alai)‟s guidance and some fought him. However, even against those who went against him, he was patient and kept telling the people about Allah.

In the Quran Allah tells us that Idris (Alai) was patient and didn't give up. Allah tells us that Prophet Idris(Alai) was righteous. (21:85-86) Righteous means to obey Allah, to do what Allah tells us to do.

Even though Prophet Idris(Alai) never gave up, his people still wouldn't live good lives. So, with Allah's guidance, Prophet Idris (peace be upon him) moved to Egypt and settled on the bank of the river Nile. Did you know that the Nile River is the longest river in the world? Yes, and that's where Prophet Idris(Alai) started going around to the local tribes and teaching them about Allah and about how to do good things and avoid doing bad things. His teachings helped make the Nile River area a much better place to live.

Some of the things he taught the Nile River people were:

don't be jealous of what others have and what they do not be happy with what they have and don't always want more and more don't break promises be patient worship Allah sincerely

Prophet Idris (peace be upon him) learned more from Allah. He was the first man who learned to write. And he was the inventor of the sciences of astronomy and arithmetic. That means that he was the first one who started studying the stars, planets and the whole galaxy. He also started studying how things add and subtract and divide and multiply. Allah gave Prophet Idris (peace be upon him) 30 parts of divine scriptures, those are books that come from Allah.

At the age of 365 years Prophet Idris(Alai)' angel friend took Idris(Alai) up into the heavens and when they arrived in the fourth heaven, they met the Angel of Death. The angel questioned the Angel of Death about how many more years Prophet Idris(Alai) would live. The Angel of Death said, "Where is Idris(Alai) because I have been commanded to end his life." Prophet Idris (peace be upon him) then stayed in the fourth heaven and died in the wings of his angel friend. (Narrated by Ibn Jarir in Rauzatul Ahbab)

Idris (pbuh) often observed Saum and spent much of his time in prayer. Even the angels we're overwhelmed by his worship. It is said that he was taken away alive by Allah. When Idris (pbuh) left earth, he left a large group of family and friends behind. Allah chose great leaders and Prophets from them. May peace be upon Idris (Alai).

Nuh (Alai) Section 1:

For many generations Nuh(Alai)'s people had been worshipping statues that they called gods. They believed that these gods would bring them good, protect them from evil and provide all their needs.

Originally these were the names of good people who had lived among them. After their deaths, statues of them were erected to keep their memories alive. After sometime, however, people began to worship these statues. Later generations did not even know why they had been erected; they only knew their parents had prayed to them. That is how idol worshipping developed. Since they had no understanding of Allah the Almighty Who would punish them for their evil deeds, they became cruel and immoral.

Ibn Abbas explained: "Following upon the death of those righteous men, Shaitaan inspired their people to erect statues in the places where they used to sit. They did this, but these statues were not worshiped until the coming generations deviated from the right way of life. Then they worshipped them as their idols."

Ibn Jarir narrated: "There were righteous people who lived in the period between Aadham (Alai) and Nuh (Alai) and who had followers who held them as models. After their death, their friends who used to emulate them said: 'If we make statues of them, it will be more pleasing to us in our worship and will remind us of them.' So they built statues of them, and, after they had died and others came after them, Iblis crept into their minds saying: „your forefathers used to worship them and through that worship they got rain.' So they worshipped them."

So he made the statue like him. They put it in their meeting place in order to be reminded of him. When Iblis saw their interest in remembering him, he said: 'Can I build a statue of him in the home of each one of you so that he would be in everyone's house and you could remember him?'

They agreed. Their children learned about and saw what they were doing. They also learned about their remembrance of him instead of Allah. So the first to be worshipped instead of Allah was Waddan, the idol which they named thus."

The essence of this point is that every idol from those earlier mentioned was worshipped by a certain group of people. It was mentioned that people made picture sand as the ages passed they made these pictures into statues, so that their forms could be fully recognized; afterwards they were worshipped instead of Allah.

Worshipping anything other than Allah is a tragedy that results not only in the loss of freedom; its serious effect reaches man's mind and destroys it as well. Almighty Allah created man and his mind with its purpose set on achieving knowledge the most important of which is that Allah alone is the Creator and all the rest are worshippers (slaves). Therefore, disbelief in Allah, or polytheism, results in the loss of freedom, the destruction of the mind, and the absence of a noble target in life. (By worshipping anything other than Allah, man becomes

History Book_P3 2011_’Book of Miracles’_Ayeshah Ust and Helpers

رينة الصابمدرس Page 10

enslaved to Shaitaan, who is himself a creature and becomes harnessed to his own baser qualities).

Into this environment Allah sent Nuh (Alai) with His message to his people. Nuh(alai) was the only intellectual not caught in the whirlpool of man's destruction which was caused by polytheism.

Allah is His Mercy sent His messenger Nuh(alai) to guide his people. Noah was an excellent speaker and a very patient man. He pointed out to his people the mysteries of life and the wonders of the universe. He pointed out how the night is regularly followed by the day and that the balance between these opposites was designed by Allah the Almighty for our good. The night gives coolness and rest while the day gives warmth and awakens activity. The sun encourages growth, keeping all plants and animals alive, while the moon and stars assist in the reckoning of time, direction and seasons. He pointed out that the ownership of the heavens and the earth belongs only to the Divine Creator.

Therefore, he explained to this people, there cannot have been more than one deity. He clarified to them how the devil had deceived them for so long and that the time had come for this deceit to stop. Nuh (alai) spoke to them of Allah's glorification of man, how HE had created him and provided him with sustenance and the blessings of a mind. He told them that idol worshipping was a suffocating injustice to the mind. He warned them not to worship anyone but Allah and described the terrible punishment Allah would mete out if they continued in their evil ways.

Still, Nuh (alai)‟s wife and one of his sons did not believe him. He went to the towns people and they criticized him. Because those that followed him were poor. The people ridiculed Nuh (pbuh) saying that he looked no different then them. Why would he be chosen as a Prophet. Surely he must be crazy. They wanted proof of this punishment. They told him to leave.

Hud (ALAI) Section 1:

The people of 'Ad lived many years in the windswept hills of an area between Yemen and Oman. They were physically well built and renowned for their craftsmanship especially in the construction of tall buildings with lofty towers. They were outstanding among all the nations in power and wealth, which, unfortunately, made them arrogant and boastful. Their political power was held in the hand of unjust rulers, against whom no one dared to raise a voice.

They were not ignorant of the existence of Allah, nor did they refuse to worship Him. What they did refuse was to worship Allah alone. They worshipped other gods, also, including idols. This is one sin Allah does not forgive. Allah wanted to guide and discipline these people so He sent a prophet from among them. This prophet was Hud (Alai), a noble man who handled this task with great resoluteness and tolerance. Hud (Alai) condemned idol worship and admonished his people. "MY people, what is the benefit of these stones that you carve with your own hands and worship? In reality it is an insult to the intellect. There is only One Deity worthy of worship and that is Allah. Worship of Him and Him alone, is compulsory on you.

He created you, He provides for you and He is the One Who will cause you to die. He gave you wonderful physiques and blessed you in many ways. So believe in Him and do not be blind to His favors, or the same fate that destroyed Noah's people will overtake you."With such reasoning Hud(alai) hoped to instill faith in them, but they refused to accept his message. His people asked him: "Do you desire to be our master with your call? What payment do you want?"Hud tried to make them understand that he would receive his payment (reward) from Allah; he did not demand anything from them except that they let the light of truth touch their minds and hearts.

Hud(alai) tried to speak to them and to explain about Allah's blessings: how Allah the Almighty had made them Nuh(alai)'s successors, how He had given them strength and power, and how HE sent them rain to revive the soil. Hud (alai)'s people looked about them and found they were the strongest on earth, so they become prouder and more obstinate. Thus they argued a lot with Hud (alai). They asked "O Hud! Do you say that later we die and turn into dust, we will be resurrected?" He replied, "Yes, you will come back on the Day of Judgment and each of you will be asked about what you did."A peal of laughter was heard after the last statement. "How strange Hud (alai)'s claims are!" The disbelievers muttered among themselves. They believed that when man dies his body decays and turns into dust, which is swept away by the wind. How could that return to its original state? Then what is the significance of the Day of Judgment? Why does the dead return to life?

All these questions were patiently received by Hud (alai). He then addressed his people concerning the Day of Judgment. He explained that belief in the Day of Judgment is essential to Allah's justice, teaching them the same thing that every prophet taught about it.

Hud (alai) explained that justice demands that there be a Day of Judgment because good is not always victorious in life. Sometimes evil overpowers good. Will such crimes go unpunished? If we suppose there is no Day of Judgment, then a great injustice will have prevailed, but Allah has forbidden injustice to be incurred

History Book_P3 2011_’Book of Miracles’_Ayeshah Ust and Helpers

رينة الصابمدرس Page 13

by Himself or His subjects. Therefore, the existence of the Day of Judgment, a day of accounting for our deeds and being rewarded or punished for them, reveals the extend of Allah's justice. Hud (alai) spoke to them about all of these things. They listened but disbelieved him.

Hud(alai) clarified to them that the gods they worshipped would be the reason for their destruction, that it is Allah alone Who saves people, and that no other power on earth can benefit or harm anyone. The conflict between Hud(alai) and his people continued. The years passed, and they became prouder and more obstinate, and more tyrannical and more defiant of their prophet's message.

Thus Hud(alai) renounced them and their gods and affirmed his dependence on Allah Who had created him. Hud(alai) realized that punishment would be incurred on the disbelievers among his people. It is one of the laws of life. Allah punishes the disbelievers, no matter how rich, tyrannical or great they are.

Hud(alai) and his people waited for Allah's promise. A drought spread throughout the land, for the sky no longer sent its rain. the sun scorched the desert sands, looking like a disk of fire which settled on people's heads. Hud(alai)‟s people hastened to him asking: "What is that drought Hud(alai)?"

Hud(alai) answered: "Allah is angry with you. If you believe in Him, He will accept you and the rain will fall and you will become stronger than you are."They mocked him and became more obstinate, sarcastic and preserve in their unbelief. The drought increased, the trees turned yellow, and plants died.

A day came when they found the sky full of clouds. Hud(alai) 's people were glad as they came out of their tents crying: "A cloud, which will give us rain!"The weather changed suddenly from burning dry and hot to stinging cold with wind that shook everything; trees, plants, tents, men and women. The wind increased day after day and night after night.

Hud(alai) 's people started to flee. They ran to their tents to hide but the gale became stronger, ripping their tents from their stakes. They hid under cloth covers but the gale became stronger and still and tore away the covers. It slashed clothing and skin. It penetrated the apertures of the body and destroyed it. It hardly touched anything before it was destroyed or killed, its core sucked out to decompose and rot. The storm raged for 8 days and 7 nights.

That violent gale did not stop until the entire region was reduced to ruins and its wicked people destroyed, swallowed by the sands of the desert. Only Hud(alai) and his followers remained unharmed. They migrated to Hadramaut and lived there in peace, worshipping Allah, their true Lord.

1. What are the sins that will not be forgiven by ALLAHU SWT?

Did you know?

The people of this town were extremely powerful and wealthy and they built countless buildings and monuments to show their sheer power. However, the ʿĀd people's wealth ultimately proved to be their failure, as they became wholly arrogant, transgressed and forsook God and began to adopt idols for worship.

“To the `Ad People (We sent) Hud, one of their own brethren. He said: "O my people! worship Allah! ye have no other god but Him. (Your other gods) ye do nothing but invent!

Prophet Saleh (ALAI) Section 1:

After the destruction of the Ad, the tribe of Thamud succeeded them in power and glory. They also fell to idol-worshipping. As their material wealth increased so, too, did their evil ways while their virtue decreased. Like the people of Ad, they erected huge buildings on the plains and hewed beautiful homes out of the hills. Tyranny and oppression became prevalent as evil men ruled the land.

So Allah sent unto them His Prophet Saleh(alai) (PBUH), a man from among them. His name was Saleh Ibn Ubeid, Ibn Maseh, Ibn Ubeid, Ibn Hader, Ibn Thamud, Ibn Ather, Ibn Eram, Ibn Noah. He called his people to worship Allah alone, and to not associate partners with Him. While some of them believed him, the majority of them disbelieved and harmed him by both words and deeds. Saleh(alai) directed them: "O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other allah (god) but Him." (Ch 11:61)

Saleh(alai) was known for his wisdom, purity and goodness and had been greatly respected by his people before Allah's revelation came to him. Selah‟s people said to him: "O Saleh(alai)! You have been among us as a figure of good hope and we wished for you to be our chief, till this, new thing which you have brought that we leave our gods and worship your God (Allah) alone! Do you now forbid us the worship of what our fathers have worshipped? But we are really in grave doubt as to that which you invite us to monotheism." (CH 11:62 Quran).

They merely wanted to worship the same gods as their fathers had, with no reason, no proof, no thought. The proof of Selah‟s (PBUH) message was evident, but despite this it was obvious that most of his people did not believe him. They doubted his words, thinking he was charmed, and they saw that he would not stop preaching. Fearing that his followers would increase, they tried to put him off by assigning him an important task; to prove that he was a messenger of Allah by performing a miracle. Let a unique she camel issue from the mountains.

Allah granted Saleh(alai) this miracle and a huge, unique, she camel appeared from the direction of the mountain. The Quranic commentators said that the people of Thamud gathered on a certain day at their meeting place, and the prophet Saleh (PBUH) came and addressed them to believe in Allah, reminding them of the favors Allah had granted them.

Then pointing at a rock, they demanded: "Ask your Lord to make a she camel, which must be 10 months pregnant, tall and attractive, issue from the rock for us."

Saleh(alai) replied: "Look now! If Allah sends you what you have requested, just as you have described, will you believe in that which I have come to you with and have faith in the message I have been sent with?"

They answered: "Yes."

So he took a vow from them on this, then prayed to Allah the Almighty to grant their request. Allah ordered the distant rock to split asunder, to bringing forth a great ten month pregnant she camel. When their eyes set on it, they were amazed. They saw a great thing, a wonderful sight, a dazzling power and clear evidence!

History Book_P3 2011_’Book of Miracles’_Ayeshah Ust and Helpers

رينة الصابمدرس Page 16

A number of Saleh(alai)‟s people believed, yet most of them continued in their disbelief, stubbornness, and going astray. Allah the Almighty said: We sent the she camel to Thamud as a clear sign, but they did her wrong. (Ch 17:59) and also: Verily the dwellers of Al Hijr (the rocky tract) denied the Messengers. We gave them Our Signs, but they were averse to them. (Ch 15:80-81 Quran)

There are a number of ancient accounts of this camel and its miraculous nature. It was said that the she camel was miraculous because a rock in the mountain split open and it came forth from it, followed by its young offspring. Other accounts said that the she camel used to drink all the water in the wells in one day, and no other animals could approach the water. Still others claimed that the she camel produced milk sufficient for all the people to drink, on the same day that it drank all the water, leaving none for them.

At first, the people of Thamud were greatly surprised when the she camel issued from the mountain rocks. It was a blessed camel, and its milk sufficient for thousands of men, women and children. If it slept in a place that place was abandoned by other animals. Thus it was obvious that is was not an ordinary camel, but one of Allah's signs. It lived among Selah‟s people, some of whom believed in Allah while the majority continued in their obstinacy and disbelief.

Their hatred of Saleh(alai) turned towards the blessed her camel and became centered on it. A conspiracy started to be hatched against the camel by the disbelievers, and they secretly plotted against it.

Saleh(alai) feared that they might kill the camel, so he warned them: "O my people! This she camel of Allah is a sign to you, leave her to feed on Allah's earth, and touch her not with evil lest a near torment will seize you." (Ch 11:64 Quran)

For a while, Selah‟s people let the camel graze and drink freely, but in their hearts they hated it. However, the miraculous appearance of the unique camel caused many to become Selah‟s followers, and they clung to their belief in Allah.

The disbelievers now began complaining that this huge she camel with its unusual qualities drank most of the water and frightened their cattle.

They laid a plot to kill the camel, and sought the help of their women folk to tempt the men to carry out their commands. Saduq bint of Mahya, who was from a rich and noble family, offered herself to a young man named Masrai Ibn Mahraj on condition that he hamstring the camel. Aniza, an old woman, offered one of her daughters to a young man, Qudar Ibn Saluf, in return for killing the camel. Naturally these young men were tempted and set about finding seven others to assist them.

They watched the camel closely, observing all its movements. As the she camel came to drink at the well, Masarai shot it in the leg with an arrow. It tried to escape but was hampered by the arrow. Qudar followed the camel and struck it with a sword in the other leg. As it fell to the ground, he pierced it with his sword.

The killers were given a hero's welcome, cheered with songs and poetry composed in their praise. In their arrogance they mocked Saleh(alai), but he warned them: "Enjoy life for 3 more days then the punishment will descend upon

History Book_P3 2011_’Book of Miracles’_Ayeshah Ust and Helpers

رينة الصابمدرس Page 17

you." Saleh(alai) was hoping that they would see the folly of their ways and change their attitude before the 3 days went out.

"Why 3 days?" they asked. "Let the punishment come as quickly as possible."

He pleaded with them: "My people, why do you hasten to evil rather than good? Why do not you ask pardon of Allah so that you may receive mercy?"…

They replied: "We see your presence and that of your followers as bringing evil on us."

Almighty Allah related their story: And indeed we sent to Thamud their brother Saleh(alai), saying "Worship Allah Alone and none else." Then look! They became two parties (believers and disbelievers) quarreling with each other.

He said: "O my people! Why do you seek to hasten the evil (torment) before the good (Allah's Mercy)? Why seek you not the Forgiveness of Allah, that you may receive mercy?" They said: We augur till omen from you and those with you." he said: "Your ill omen is with Allah; nay, but you are a people that are being tested."

And there were in the city nine men (from the sons of their chiefs), who made mischief in the land, and would not reform.

Prophet Ibrahim (ALAI) Section 1:

One night Ibrahim(alai) had a bad dream. He dreamt Allah told him to sacrifice Isma‟il. The next night Ibrahim(alai) had the same dream. Ibrahim(alai) knew that Allah would only ask him to do such a thing if he had good reason. Even though he loved his son dearly, he was prepared to do this difficult thing for Allah. Ibrahim(alai) told Isma‟il(alai) they had to go to Mount Arafat. He took a knife and a rope with him.

On the way they passed a place called Mina. The devil, Shaitaan, came to Ibrahim(alai) and tried to talk him out of sacrificing his son. Ibrahim(alai) turned his back on him and would not listen. When they reached Mount Arafat, Ibrahim(alai) told Isma‟il (alai) what Allah wanted him to do. Isma‟il(alai) listened and accepted what was to happen. He was an exceptional child. He too was a great prophet.

Isma‟il(alai) told his father to tie his hands and legs and blindfold himself so he would not struggle and make his father even more upset than he was going to be and Ibrahim(alai) was blindfolded so he would not see his son suffer. Ibrahim did as Isma‟il(alai) had said. He then took the knife and did what Allah had told him to do. When he took the blindfold from his eyes he looked down, not at his son but at a dead ram.

Isma‟il(alai) was at his side. He thought he had disobeyed but then he heard a voice telling him not to worry. Allah looks after his followers. Ibrahim(alai) and Isma‟il(alai) had passed a difficult test. Each year, during the month of Dhul Hijjah, many Muslims, from all over the world, travel to Makkah. They want to remember what Ibrahim and Isma‟il(alai) did.

In the month of Dhul Hijjah these pilgrims go to Makkah, Mina and Arafat. They visit places where Ibrahim(alai) and Isma‟il(alai) lived and preached. They give a sacrifice just as Allah commanded Ibrahim to do. The pilgrims sacrifice animals in memory of the deed.

We must obey Allah's commands as Ibrahim(alai) and Isma‟il(alai) did. We obey by doing the things we know are right, praying, obeying our parents and always telling the truth.

Prophet Isma’il (ALAI) Section 1:

Prophet Isma‟il (alai) was the son of Ibrahim (alai) and Hajar. One day Ibrahim (alai) took his baby son and wife (Hajar) to the site where Ka‟ba can be found today. He gave them some dates and water and started to leave. As Ibrahim (alai) walked away, Hajar followed and asked why they were being left in this empty place. She understood from his silence that Allah had commanded him to do this. Finally, she asked if Allah had ordered him to do this and he replied that it was so. Upon hearing this, she accepted Allah‟s will and returned to the place where Ibrahim (alai) had left her.

As soon as Ibrahim (alai) was out of sight, he turned and prayed to Allah to protect and provide for his family which he had left out in the wilderness:

Isma‟il (alai) and his mother lived for some time on the water and dates Ibrahim (alai) left them, but finally the water ran out, and Isma‟il‟s (alai) mother could no longer produce enough milk to feed Isma‟il (alai) .The mother could not bear to see her child suffering, so she ran to the top of nearby Mount Safa to see if she could find someone to help her. When she could see no one, she ran down the mountain and across the valley to Mount Marwa. She ran from one mountain to the other seven times, looking for water or help. After the seventh time she heard a voice and she called out to it for help. When she looked she saw an angel digging the earth with his heel until water flowed forth. That place was the site of Zam-zam. She carefully made a barrier around the place where the water was flowing, and filled her waterbag with her hands. Then she was able to drink water and feed her baby. The angel also told her not to be afraid, that she and her son would be provided for.

Isma‟il(alai) and his mother continued to live at this place all by themselves for some time. One day some people of the Jurhum tribe were passing through the valley. They didn‟t intend to stop, because they knew that there had never been any water in that valley. But they saw a kind of bird which was known to frequent wet spots, so they followed it to the spring of Zam-zam. There they found Isma‟il‟s (alai) mother sitting by the water.

Isma‟il(alai)‟s mother agreed they could settle there for a while, as long as they did not claim possession to the water. Some of the people of the tribe settled by the water permanently and Isma‟il(alai) grew up amongst them.

One of the miracles of Zamzam water is its ability to satisfy both thirst and hunger. One of the Companions of the Prophet said that before Islam, the water was called "Shabbaa'ah" or satisfying. It was filling and helped them nourish their families.

After Islam, this powerful ability to quench thirst and fill stomachs remained. Prophet Muhammad said: "The best water on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and a healing from sickness.

“O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Thy Sacred House; In order, O our Lord that they may establish regular prayer; So fill the hearts of some among men with love towards them, and feed them with fruits; So that they may give thanks.”

Prophet Ishaq (ALAI) Section 1:

Miraculous Birth of Prophet Ishaq (Isaac): The Prophet Ibrahim had two sons-Prophet Isma'il and Prophet Ishaq (peace be upon them). The Prophet Ishaq was his second son born of Sarah, his wife. When the Prophet Ibrahim passed through an ordeal of sacrificing his affectionate son, Prophet Isma'il a glad-tidings of the birth of another son, Prophet Ishaq was conveyed to him. The Holy Qur'an says:

"And We gave him the tiding of the birth of Ishaq, a prophet among the righteous." (37: 112)

The Prophet Ibrahim had attained the age of one hundred years and Sarah was ninety. They had practically lost all hope of having an issue at this advanced age when the angel came to Prophet Ibrahim with the happy news of the birth of a wise son, his wife laughed and did not believe it. She remarked that she had passed the age and now it was simply a folly to expect a child.

The Qur'an tells us how this news was imparted to the Prophet Ibrahim and his wife:

"And his wife standing by, laughed when We gave her good tidings (of the birth) of Ishaq and after Ishaq of Ya'qub (Yacoob). She said: Oh, Woe is me! Shall I bear a child when I am an old woman and this my husband is an old man? Lo! this is a strange thing. They said: wonder thou at the Commandment of Allah ? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, 0' people of the House! Lo! He is Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory." (11: 71-73)

The Prophet Ishaq was born as God willed. He was the chosen servant of God and his descendants were men of high spiritual rank and character. He was inspired to do noble deeds and establish right warship. He was generous at heart.

Marriage and Death: The Prophet Ishaq was married to Rebecca when he was forty years old. His wife gave birth to Esau and Ya'qub. When the Prophet Ishaq grew old he lost his eye-sight. He passed away` at Hebron at the age of 180 years. He was buried beside his father and mother.

Prophet Yacoob Section 1:

Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) left Egypt accompanied by his nephew Luth (PBUH), who then went to the city of Sodom (Sadum), which was on the western shore of the Dead Sea.

This city was filled with evil. Its residents waylaid, robbed and killed travelers. Another common evil among them was that men had sex with men instead of with women. This unnatural act later became known as sodomy (after the city of Sodom). It was practiced openly and unashamedly.

It was at the height of these crimes and sins that Allah revealed to Prophet Luth (PBUH) that he should summon the people to give up their indecent behavior, but they were so deeply sunk in their immoral habits that they were deaf to Lot's preaching. Swamped in their unnatural desires, they refused to listen, even when Lot warned them of Allah's punishment. Instead, they threatened to drive him out of the city if he kept on preaching.

Allah the Almighty revealed: The people of Lot (those dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Palestine) belied the Messengers when their brother Lot said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. SO fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism) my reward is only from the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists). Go you in unto the males of the Alamin (mankind), and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your wives? Nay, you are a trespassing people!"

They said: "If you cease not, O Lot! Verily, you will be one of those who are driven out!"

HE said: "I am indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your (this evil) action (of sodomy). My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do."

SO We saved him and his family, all except an old woman (this wife) among those who remained behind. (Ch 26:160-171 Quran)

The doings of Lot's people saddened his heart. Their unwholesome reputation spread throughout the land, while he struggled against them. As the years passed, he persisted in his mission but to no avail. No one responded to his call and believed except for the members of his family, and even in his household, not all the members believed. Lot's wife, like Noah's wife, a disbeliever.

Allah the Almighty declared: Allah set forth an example for those who disbelieve, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous slaves, but they both betrayed their (husbands, by rejecting their doctrines) so they (Noah & Luth) benefited them (their respective wives) not, against Allah, and it was said: "Enter the Fire along with those who enter!" (Ch 66:10 Quran)

If home is the place of comfort and rest, then Luth found none, for he was tormented both inside and outside his home. His life was continuous torture and he suffered greatly, but he remained patient and steadfast with his people. The years rolled by, and still not one believed in him. Instead, they belittled his

رينة الصابمدرس Page 26

message and mockingly challenged him: "Bring Allah's Torment upon us if you are one of the truthful!" (Ch 29:29 Quran).

Overwhelmed with despair, Lot prayed to Allah to grant him victory and destroy the corrupt. Therefore, the angels left Ibrahim (pbuh) and headed for Sodom the town of Luth (pbuh). They reached the walls of the town in the afternoon. The first person who caught sight of them was Lot's daughter, who was sitting beside the river, filling her jug with water. When she lifted her face and saw them, she was stunned that there could be men of such magnificent beauty on earth.

One of the tree men (angels) asked her: "O maiden, is there a place to rest?"

Remembering the character of her people she replied, "Stay here and do not enter until I inform my father and return." Leaving her jug by the river, she swiftly ran home.

"O father!" she cried. "You are wanted by young men at the town gate and I have never before seen the like of their faces!"

Lot felt distressed as he quickly ran to his guests. He asked them where they came from and where they were going.

They did not answer his questions. Instead they asked if he could host them. He started talking with them and impressed upon them the subject of his people's nature. Lot was filled with turmoil; he wanted to convince his guests without offending them, not to spend the night there, yet at the same time he wanted to extend to them the expected hospitality normally accorded to guests. In vain he tried to make them understand the perilous situation. At last, therefore, he requested them to wait until the night fell, for then no one would see them.

When darkness fell on the town, Lot escorted his guest to his home. No one was aware of their presence. However, as soon as Lot's wife saw them, she slipped out of the house quietly so that no one noticed her. Quickly, she ran to her people with the news and it spread to all the inhabitants like wildfire. The people rushed towards Lot quickly and excitedly. Lot was surprised by their discovery of his guests. and he wondered who could have informed them. The matter became clear, however, when he could not find his wife, anywhere, thus adding grief to his sorrow.

Section 2:

Prophet Yusuf (alai) Section 1:

This is the most detailed and fascinating story in the Quran, involving both human weaknesses such as jealousy, hatred, pride, passion, deception, intrigue, cruelty, and terror as well as noble qualities such as patience, loyalty, bravery, nobility, and compassion.

It is related that among the reasons for its revelation is that the Jews asked the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to tell them about Yusoof (pbuh) who was one of their old prophets. His story had been distorted in parts and marred in others with interpolation and exclusions. Therefore it was revealed in the Book of Allah (Quran), complete in its minute and careful details.

Allah the Almighty declared: We relate unto you (Muhammad) the best of stories through Our Revelations unto you, of this Quran. And before this (i.e. before the coming of Divine Inspiration to you), you were among those who knew nothing about it (the Quran). ( Ch 12:3 Quran)

Almighty Allah also decreed: thus We relate to you (O Muhammad) some information of what happened before, And indeed We have give you from Us a Reminder (this Quran). Whoever turns away from it (this Quran--i.e. does not believe in it, nor acts on its orders), verily they will bear a heavy burden (of sins) on the Day of Resurrection. They will abide in that (state in the Fire of Hell), and evil indeed will it be that load for them on the Day of Resurrection.(Ch 20:99-101)

The story of Yusoof (pbuh) moves in a stream from beginning to end; its substance and form are equally coherent. It inspires you with a feeling for the depth of Allah's power and supremacy and the execution of His rulings despite the challenge of human intervention. And Allah has full power and control over His Affairs, but most of men know not. (Ch 12:21)

This is what the story of Yusoof (pbuh), confirms categorically, for it ends with comfort and marvels.

Yusoof lived all his life confronting schemes made by the people closest to him. His brothers plotted to kill him, but they amended it to exiling him. This happened to him while he was a boy. He was sold into the slave market in Egypt, where he was bought for a nominal sum. Then he fell victim to the attempted seduction by a great man's wife who, when her wish was foiled, sent him to prison, where he remained for some time. In spite of all of this, he at length approached close to the Egyptian throne and became the king's chief minister. He then began his call to Allah from the position of the ruling authority.

Allah's plans were carried out, and the matter ended. This is the substance (theme) of the story. As for the form (style) in which it is presented, it is a landmark of wonder.

The story is presented in a sequence of episodes. It gives you scene after scene and the transition is inspiring, informative, and stirring to the imagination. There are also artistic loopholes, which leave it to the imagination of the reader to complete the sense, as well as the depth of the picture, the like of which no human artist can bring forth.

رينة الصابمدرس Page 29

The story begins with a dream and ends with its interpretation. As the sun appeared over the horizon, bathing the earth in its morning glory, Yusoof (pbuh), son of the Prophet Yacoob (pbuh) awoke from his sleep, delighted by a pleasant dream he had had. Filled with excitement he ran to his father and related it.

"O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves to me." (Ch 12:4)

His father's face lit up. He foresaw that Yusoof would be one through whom the prophecy of his grandfather, Prophet Ibrahim (pbuh), would be fulfilled, in that his offspring would keep the light of Ibrahim's house alive and spread Allah's message to mankind.

Therefore, it was narrated that Allah's Messenger Muhammad (pbuh) was asked: "Who is the most honorable amongst the people?" He replied: "The most God-fearing." The people said: "We do not want to ask you about this." He said: "The most honorable person is Yusoof Allah's prophet, the son of Allah's prophet, the son of the faithful friend of Allah (Ibrahim)." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

However, the father was well aware of the jealousy of Yusoof's brothers, so he warned him against telling his dream to his brothers. "O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you. Verily! Shaitaan is to man an open enemy! Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams (an other things) and perfect His Favor on you and on the offspring of Yacoob, as He perfected it on your fathers, Ibrahim, and Isaac aforetime! Verily! your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise." (Ch 12:5-6)

Yusoof heeded his father's warning. He did not tell his brothers what he had seen. It is well known that they hatred him so much that it was difficult for him to feel secure telling them what was in his heart and in his dreams.

Yusoof was eighteen years old, very handsome and robust, with a gentle temperament. He was respectful, kind and considerate. His brother Benjamin was equally pleasant. Both were from one mother, Rachel. Because of their refined qualities, the father loved the two more than his other children, and would not let them out of his sight. To protect them, he kept them busy with work in the house garden.

The scene of Yacoob and his son closes. Another opens on Yusoof's brothers plotting against him. "Truly, Yusoof and his brother (Benjamin) are loved more by our father than we, but we are Usbah (a strong group). Really our father is in a plain error. Kill Yusoof or cast him out to some other land, so that the favor of your father may be give to you alone, and after that you will be righteous folk (by intending repentance before committing the sin)."

One from among them said: "Kill not Yusoof, but if you must do something, throw him down to the bottom of a well, he will be picked up by some caravan of travelers.">> (Ch 12:8-10)

The pages of the Old Testament say that Yusoof told them his dream, whereas the Quran does not say that happened. Had it been so, the brothers would have said so themselves. The Old Testament claims they had lost their own rights by him, and so they would kill him. Indeed Yusoof kept his father's order and did not tell his brothers about his vision.

In spite of this, his brothers sat down to conspire against him. One of them asked: "Why does our father love Yusoof more than us?"

Another answered: "Perhaps because of his beauty."A third said: "Yusoof and his brother occupied our father's heart."The first complained: "Our father has gone all astray."One of them suggested a soLuthion to the matter; kill Yusoof.”"Where should we kill him? "We should banish him away from these grounds.”‟"We will send him to a distant land.”‟"Why should we not kill him and have rest so that the favor of your father may be give to you alone?"

Ya’quub (alai) Section 1:

The Quran does not give details of Isaac's life (pbuh), but reliable Quranic commentators mentioned that when Ibrahim felt that his life was drawing to a close, he wished to see Isaac married. He did not want Isaac to marry one of the Canaanites, who were pagans, so he sent a trustworthy servant to Haran in Iraq to choose a bride for Isaac. The servant's choice fell upon Rebekah Bint Bethuel, Ibn Nahor, who was a brother of Ibrahim. Isaac married her and she gave birth to a set of twins, Esau (Al Eis) and Yacoob (Yaqub). Ill feelings developed between the two brothers when they grew into manhood. Esau disliked the fact that Yacoob was favored by his father and by Allah with prophethood. This ill feeling became so serious that Esau threatened to kill his brother. Fearing for his life, Yacoob fled the country. The People of the Book said that when Isaac was forty years old, he married Rebekah, Bint Bethuel, during his father's life. They said she was sterile, so Isaac prayed to Allah and then she became pregnant. She gave birth to twin boys. The first one was called Esau whom the Arabs called Al-Eis. He became the father of Rum. The second one was called Yacoob, which means Isreal, (belonging to the people of Israel). The People of the Book claimed that when Isaac (pbuh) grew old and his eye sight had weakened, he had a desire for food, so he asked his son Esau to go hunting and bring him some cooked game. Esau asked him to bless the food and pray for him. Esau, a hunter, went out to get his father the meat. Rebekah, overhearing this, ordered her son Yacoob to slaughter two goats of his best flock and cook them as his father liked and bring it to him before his brother returned. She dressed Yacoob in his brother's clothes and put goat skin on his arms and neck, for Esau was hairy while Yacoob was not. When he approached his father with the food, his father asked: 'Who are you?' Yacoob answered: 'I am your son.' When his father finished eating, he prayed for his son to be the more blessed brother and to prevail over them and all people, and for Allah to sustain him and his children. When he left his father, his brother Esau, who had carried out his father's command, entered. Isaac asked him: "What is this my son?" He answered: "This is the food you like." Isaac asked: "Did you bring it an hour ago and ask me to pray for you?" Esau said: "No, I swear I did not," and he knew his brother had preceded him in this matter and he was sick at heart. The People of the Book said Esau threatened to kill his brother when their father was dead. They also said that he asked his father to pray for him that Allah make the earth good for his offspring and multiply his sustenance and fruits. When their mother knew that Esau threatened his brother Yacoob, she commanded her son Yacoob to go to her brother Laban in the land of Haran and abide with him for a time until his brother's anger had abated, and to marry one of the Laban's daughters. she told her husband Isaac to command him with that advice and pray for him, and he did. Yacoob (pbuh) left his family, when night came he found a place to rest. He took a stone and put it under his head and slept. He dreamed of a ladder from heaven to earth. Angels were ascending and descending and the Lord addressed him and said to him; "I will bless you and your offspring and make this land for you and for those who come after you." WHen he awoke he felt joyful from what he had seen in his dream and vowed, for Allah's sake that if he returned to his family safely, he would build here a temple for Allah the Almighty. He also vowed to give one tenth of his property for the sake of Allah. He poured oil on the stone so as to recognize it and called the place "Ayle's House" (Bethel), which means "House of Allah". It was to be the location of Jerusalem later.

رينة الصابمدرس Page 32

The People of the Book also said that when Yacoob came to his maternal uncle in the land of Haran, his uncle had two daughters. The elder one was called Leah (Lia) and the younger one was Rachel (Rahil). The latter was the better and lovelier of the two. His uncle agreed to marry his daughter to him on the condition that Yacoob pasture his sheep for seven years. After a period of time, his uncle prepared a feast and gathered people for the wedding. He married Leah, his elder daughter, to him at night. She was weak-sighted and ugly. When morning came, Yacoob discovered she was Leah and he complained to his uncle. "You deceived me; I was engaged to Rachel and you married me to Leah." His uncle said: "It is not our tradition to marry the younger daughter before the elder daughter. However, if you love her sister, work another seven years and I will marry you to both of them." Yacoob worked for seven years and then married Rachel. It was acceptable in their time, as described in the Torah, for a man to marry two sisters. Laban gave a female slave to each daughter. Leah's slave was called Zilpah and Rachel's slave was called Bilha. Almighty Allah compensated Leah's weakness by giving her sons. the first one was named Rueben (Robel), after whom there were Simon (Shamun), Levi (Lawi), and Judah (Yahudh). Rachel felt jealous of Leah's having sons, as she was barren. She gave her slave Bilha to her husband and he had relations with her until she became pregnant. she gave birth to a son and named him Naphtali. Leah was vexed that Rachel's slave had give birth to a son, so she in turn gave her slave Zilpah to Yacoob (pbuh), Zilpah gave birth to two sons, Gad and Asher. Then Leah got pregnant and gave birth to her fifth son, Issaacher, and later she gave birth to a sixth son Zebulun. After this Leah gave birth to a daughter named Dinah. Thus, Leah had seven sons from Yacoob.

Then Rachel prayed to Allah to give her a son from Yacoob. Allah heard her call and responded to her prayer. She gave birth to a son, great, honorable, and beautiful. She named him Yusoof (Yusuf).

All of this happened when they were in the land of Haran and Yacoob (pbuh) was pasturing his uncle's sheep, which he did for a period of twenty years.

Yacoob then asked his uncle Laban to let him go and visit his family. His uncle said to him: "I have been blessed because of you; ask for whatever money you need." Yacoob said: "Give me each spotted and speckled goat born this year and each black lamb."

But at Laban's command his sons removed their father's goat that were striped, spotted or speckled, and the black lambs, lest others should be born with those traits. They walked for three days with their father's goats and sheep while Yacoob tended the remaining flock.

The People of the Book said that Yacoob (pbuh) took fresh rods of poplar, almond, and plane. HE peeled streaks in them and cast them into the water through for the goats to look at. The young inside their abdomens were terrified and moved and they were born striped, spotted or speckled. When the sheep were breeding, he set their faces towards the black sheep in Laban's flock and put the rods among them. Their lambs were born black. This was considered an example of supernatural powers, a miracle. Yacoob had many goats, sheep, beast and slaves. His uncle and his sons faces changed as if they the sheep and goats) had been stolen from them.

Allah the Almighty inspired Yacoob to return to the country of his father and people, and He promised to stand by him. Yacoob told his family that, and they responded and obeyed him. Yacoob did not tell Laban of his plans, however, and left without bidding farewell.

Upon leaving, Rachel stole her father's idols. After Yacoob and his people had fled for his country, Laban and his people followed them. When Laban met with Yacoob, he blamed him for leaving him without his knowledge. He would have liked to know so that he could have made them leave with celebration and joy, with drums and songs, and so that he could have bidden his daughters and sons farewell. And why have they taken his idols with them?

Yacoob had no knowledge of his idols, so he denied that had taken them from him. Then Laban entered the tents of his daughters and slaves to search, but he found nothing, for Rachel had put the idols in the camel saddle under her. She did not get up, apologizing that she had her menses. Thus, he could not perceive what they had done.

Then they sat on a hill called Galeed and made a covenant there. Yacoob would not ill treat Laban's daughters nor marry others. Neither Laban nor Yacoob would pass the hill into the other's country. They cooked food and their people ate with them. Each bade the other farewell as they departed, each returning to his own country.

When Yacoob approached the land of Seir, the angels greeted him. He sent a messenger ahead with greetings to his brother Esau, asking forgiveness and humbling himself before him. The messenger returned greetings and told Yacoob that Esau was riding towards him with four hundred men. This made Yacoob afraid and he entreated and prayed to Allah Almighty. He prostrated in humiliation and asked Him to fulfill His promise which He had made before. He asked Him to stop the evil of his brother Esau. then Yacoob (pbuh) prepared a great present for his brother: two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, and thirty milch camels, forty cows and two bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.

He commanded his slaves to take the animals, each drove by itself, and pass on ahead of him with a space between the droves. He instructed them: "When you meet my brother Esau he will ask you, 'to whom do you belong? where are you going?' you shall say, 'they belong to your servant Yacoob; they are a present to my master Esau. Moreover, he is behind us."

Yacoob stayed behind with his two wives, his slaves and his children for two nights, then continued walking by night and resting by day.

When the dawn of the second day came one of the angels appeared in the shape of a man. Yacoob began to wrestle with him. They were neck and neck until the angel injured his thigh and Yacoob became lame. When the day was breaking, the angel said to him: 'What is your name?' He answered: 'Yacoob.' The angel said: "After today you shall not be called anything but Israel." Yacoob asked: "Who are you? What is your name?" He vanished. Then Yacoob knew that he was one of the angels. Yacoob was lame, and for this reason the children of Israel do not eat the thigh muscle on the hip socket.

Yacoob raised his eyes and saw his brother Esau coming. Yacoob prostrated seven times before him for it was their saLuthation in that time. It was lawful for them just as the angels had prostration in saLuthation to Adam.

When Esau saw him, he ran towards him, embraced and kissed him and wept. When Esau raised his eyes and saw the women and children he asked: "Who are these with you?" Yacoob answered: "Those whom Allah has give me, your servant." Leah, Rachel, their slaves, and all the children approached and prostrated before him. Yacoob asked Esau to accept his gift and insisted until he did so.

Esau returned and went in advance before him. Yacoob and his family followed with the flocks and herds and slaves to the mountains (Seir).

When he came to Succoth (Sahur), he built a house for himself and shades for his beasts. Then he passed by Jerusalem, the village of Shechem, and camped before the village. He bought a farm from Shcehm Ibn Hamor with one hundred goats and built an altar, which he called Ayl, as Allah commanded him. He built the altar where Jerusalem stands today and later Solomon son of David (pbuh) rebuilt it. It is in the place of the stone which he had earlier anointed with oil as was mentioned before.

The people of the book tell a story of Dinah, daughter of Yacoob and Leah. Shechem Ibn Hamor seized her and lay with her by force. Then he asked her father and brothers to let him marry her. Her brothers said : "Circumcise all of you, and we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters for ourselves; but we do not marry with uncircumcised people." They (the men of the city) agreed to that, and all of them were circumcised. When the third day came, the pain from the circumcision had increased, Yacoob's sons approached and killed them till the last one. They killed Shchem and his father for the evil they had committed against them and for their worship of idols. That is why Yacoob's sons killed them and seized their money as spoils.

Then Rachel got pregnant and gave birth to a son, Benjamin, but she had a hard labor and died after delivery. Yacoob buried her in Ephrath (afrath). The tomb of Rachel is there till the present day. Yacoob's sons were twelve men. From Leah there were Rueben (Robil), Simon (Shamun), Levi (Lawi), Judah (Yahudh), Issachar (isakher), and Zebulun (Zablun). From Rachel there were Yusoof (Yusuf) (pbuh) and Benjamin. From Rachel's slave there were Dan and Naphtali (Neftali), and from Leah's slave there were Gad and Asher.

Yacoob came to his father Isaac and settled with him in the village of Hebron which lies in the land of Canaan where Ibrahim had lived. Then Isaac fell ill and died when he was one hundred eighty years old. his sons Esau and Yacoob buried him with his father Ibrahim Al Khalil in a cave which he had bought. It was said that Ibrahim died at the age of one hundred seventy five.

Prophet Shu’aib

Section 1:

Allah the Almighty revealed the story of Shu'aib (pbuh): "To the people of Madyan (Madian) (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Verily! a clear proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their things, and do not mischief on the earth after it has been set in order that will be better for you, if you are believers. And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allah those who believe in Him, and seeking to make it crooked. Remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. See what was the end of the Mufsideen (mischief makers, corrupts and liars). And if there is a party of you who believes in that which I have been sent and a party who do not believe, so be patient until Allah judges between us, and He is the Best of judges."

The chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said: "We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu'aib! and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you all shall return to our religion."

He said: "Even though we hate it! We should have invented a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion, after Allah has rescued us from it. It is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. In Allah (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those Who gives judgment."

The chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said to their people: "If you follow Shu'aib be sure then you will be the losers!"

Then he (shu'aib) turned from them and said: "O my people! I have indeed conveyed my Lord's Messages unto you and I have given you good advice. Then how can I sorrow for the disbelieving people's (destruction)." (Ch 7:85-93 Quran)

The people of Madyan were Arabs who lived in the country of Ma'an, part of which today is greater Syria. They were a greedy people who did not believe that Allah existed and who led wicked lives. They gave short measure, praised their goods beyond their worth, and hid their defects. They lied to their customers, thereby cheating them.

Allah sent His Prophet Shu'aib (pbuh) armed with many miracles. Shu'aib preached to them, begging them to be mindful of Allah's favors and warning them of the consequences of their evil ways, but they only mocked him. Shu'aib remained calm as he reminded them of his kinship to them and that what he was doing was not for his personal gain.

They seized the belongings of Shu'aib and his followers, and then drove them out of the city. The Messenger turned to his Lord for help, and his plea was answered. Allah sent down on them scorching heat and they suffered terribly. On seeing a cloud gathering in the sky, they thought it would bring cool, refreshing rain, and rushed outside in the hope of enjoying the rainfall. Instead the cloud burst, hurling thunderbolts and fire. They heard a thunderous sound from above which caused the earth under their feet to tremble. The evil doers perished in this state of horror.

Allah the Exalted stated: "The dwellers of Al Aiyka (near Midian, or Madyan) belied the Messengers. When Shu'aib said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. SO fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it (my message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists). Give full measure, and cause no loss to others. And weigh with the true and straight balance. Defraud not people by reducing their things nor do evil making corruption and mischief in the land. Fear Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old."

They said: "You are only one of those bewitched! You are but a human being like us and verily, we think that you are one of the liars! So cause a piece of heaven to fall on us, if you are of the truthful!"

He said: "My Lord is the Best Knower of what you do."

But, they believed him, so the torment of the day of shadow (a gloomy cloud) seized them, indeed that was the torment of a Great Day. Verily, in this is a sign yet most of them are not believers. And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All Mighty, the Most Merciful." (Ch 26:176-191 Quran).

Ilyas (alai) Section 1:

Ilyas (pbuh) was a descendant from Haarun (pbuh). He was appointed as a Prophet of Israel, following the death of Sulaiman (pbuh). Sulaiman (pbuh) kingdom was divided when he died. The current king of Israel was Ahab, had reverted to materialism. The entire kingdom had fallen to a wave of evil and corruption. People who tried to teach the oneness of Allah we're tortured and killed.

Ilyas (pbuh) had been trying effortlessly to teach the people. He told them of the Punishment that would overtake the kingdom. He added that their false gods would be powerless to stop it. The people paid no heed to his warnings never changing their ways.

Ahab had his neighbor killed, even though he was a pious man and had never done any harm. Ahab took the land of his slain neighbor, as his own. It was a lush garden of fruit. Ilyas (pbuh) scolded the king for his behavior and warned him that a punishment from Allah would come if he did not return the land back to the slain man's orphan. Surly Allah will have Ahab slain in the same garden. Ahab told Ilyas (pbuh) that he should hold his tongue, least he have him arrested and tortured, for making threats against the king.

The prophecy of the Prophet Ilyas (pbuh) came about. It began with the son of the Ahab becoming ill. Ilyas (pbuh) frustrated by the behavior of the king asked the king "why did he not pray to his best idol for the recovery of his son." Ahab was so insulted by the Ilyas (pbuh) words that he sent for his guards to take him, torture, and kill him.

Ilyas (pbuh) fell into prostration praying to Allah for His help. As the palace guards entered his chamber they fell dead. The prophecy of the Prophet Ilyas (pbuh) continued the whole kingdom came under a drought. Famine swept the people of Ahab's kingdom. Continuing for three years, Ilyas (pbuh) pleaded to Allah "show mercy to the famine stricken people". The people had felt the strength and authority of Allah. The people asked to be forgiven.

Allah sent rain down to the land ending the draught. Ilyas (pbuh) was directed by god to inform Al-Yasa (pbuh) that he was to be his successor. Ilyas vanished in the protection of Allah.

It was shortly after that a monarch from a neighboring kingdom came and conquered the land. Ahab and his wife we're slain in the garden, that they had stolen years before. May peace be upon Ilyas.

Yunus (Alai) Section 1:

Prophet Yunus (alayhis salam) was sent by Allah to a big town where the people had forgotten Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala)'s orders and did many things which Allah had forbidden. "You should believe only in Allah and obey only Him", Yunus (alayhis salam) told them. "You should worship Him alone and do good, otherwise a severe punishment will come upon you!" But Yunus (alayhis salam) soon discovered that the people did not want to listen to him. He lost patience with them and left the town in anger. Afterwards, Yunus (alayhis salam) decided to go across the sea, and boarded a ship for the voyage. But when the ship was in the middle of the ocean, Yunus (alayhis salam) suffered a great misfortune. He was thrown overboard and swallowed up by an enormous fish!. Fortunately, though, the fish had swallowed Yunus (alayhis salam) in one big gulp, so he landed in its stomach unhurt. It was very dark inside the fish's stomach, and Yunus (alayhis salam) grew very fearful. In his loneliness, he started to think over what had happened in the town, and came to realize that he should not have acted so hastily and in such a quick-tempered manner. Instead, he should have stayed and kept on speaking to the people and ask them to return to Allah. In this despair, Yunus (alayhis salam) started to pray with all his heart to Allah. He said; "O Allah, there is no God apart from You. You alone do I praise and honour. I have done wrong; if You do not help me, I shall be lost for ever." [surah ] Allah hears the prayers of those who pray to Him and those who believe in Him. Allah heard Yunus (alayhis salam)'s prayer, and he caused Yunus (alayhis salam) to come out of the fish's stomach, and to be swept by the waves of the sea onto the shore. Poor Yunus (alayhis salam)was in a terrible state! He lay on the shore, weak, ill and helpless. He felt dreadfully miserable, but Allah caused a tree to grow and this tree provided Yunus (alayhis salam) with shade and nourishing fruits, alhamdulilah. Before long, Yunus (alayhis salam) had recovered his health and strength. When he was better, Allah sent Yunus (alayhis salam) back to the town. This time, though, the people there listened to Yunus (alayhis salam) when he told them: "You should believe in Allah and worship Him alone. You must do good."

Al-Yasa (Alai) Section 1:

Al-Yasa has been mentioned twice in the Holy Qur'an:

And commemorate Isma‟il, Elisha and Dhul-kifl; each of them was of the company of! the good. (38:48)

And Zachariah and John and Jesus and Ilyas all in the ranks of the righteous; and Isma‟il and Elisha (Al-Yasa) and Jonas and Lot; each have We preferred above the nations. (To them) and their fathers and progeny and brethren, We chose them and We guided them to a straight way. (6: 85-87)

The commentators give no account of him except that he was the son of Ukhtub. The Bible says that his father was Shaphat.

Al-Yasa was the cousin and spiritual successor of the Prophet Ilyas (peace be upon him).

One day Ilyas (peace be upon him) passed through the fields while the owner (Al-Yasa) was busy in ploughing. No sooner had the owner seen the Prophet than he abdicated his own work and approached Ilyas (peace be upon him) in hot haste. Al-Yasa began to follow him. The Prophet was much surprised and remarked: Why do you accompany me after leaving your own work? Al-Yasa retraced his steps and fetched his ox. He slaughtered it, lit the fire and cooked the beef. He fed Ilyas, his companions and many other guests to seek the pleasure of Allah. The Prophet was much pleased with the host for his sincerity, hospitality and righteousness. When Ilyas (peace be upon him) was about to depart, Al-Yasa expressed his keen desire to live in the company of his honourable guest during the rest of his life and serve him whole heartedly as a humble servant. As the noble attitude of Al-Yasa had enamoured Ilyas (peace be upon him), the latter accorded him permission without hesitation. When the Prophet Ilyas (peace be upon him) was on his death-bed, he wished to bid him farewell. AL-Yasa was not prepared to leave him. Then Ilyas (peace be-upon him) asked him to express any of his desires to be fulfilled. Al-Yasa said: I wish that Allah may bestow blessings upon me in the same way as He has blessed you. The Prophet Ilyas (peace be upon him) supplicated and invoked blessings of Allah upon his successor. His prayer was granted. Allah chose Al-Yasa as His Prophet after the death of Ilyas (peace be upon him). He derived spiritual magnificence from the company of his guide and became the favourite of Allah.

After some time he proceeded to Yariha to preach the religion of Allah. The inhabitants of that locality gave him a warm reception. At that time they were under the spell of starvation. The land was barren and water was not available. Al-Yasa (peace be upon him) supplicated to Allah to show mercy to the famine-stricken people. His prayer was granted and Allah showered his bounties upon them.

Zakariyah(Alai) Section 1: Prophet Zakariyah is a Prophet in the Qur'an who is also known as Zechariah from the Biblical Traditions. He hailed from the lineage of Prophet Suleiman (King Solomon) and was a Prophet of the Israelites. His wife "Al-Yashbi" was a descendent of Prophet Haarun (Aaron) and was as pious and righteous as her husband. According to the Qur‟an traditions Zakariyah was the Guardian of Mariam (Mary), Mother of Prophet Isa (Jesus) and was also given the task of being the trustee for Hekal. His livelihood came about from working as a carpenter. Despite being poor and of old age, Zakariyah was a staunch and zealous worshipper who did not let his feebleness obstruct his daily sermons. He was not rich however he was always willing to help others and guide them to the true path. His kinsmen, unfortunately, were always seduced by their material pursuits into mischief and evil deeds which worried Zakariyah a lot. He knew that his people were weak in their faith and were always ready to change the Holy Laws to their liking and therefore needed a strong leader to keep them on the path of Allah. Adding to his troubles was the disappointment that he did not have any children to continue the teachings of Hekal after him. His state of affairs made him anxious and long for a son to maintain the teachings of the Mosaic Law after his death. During one of his visits to Mariam he was surprised to find fresh and out of season fruit in her secluded room. Since no one except him visited her, he inquired about the source of fresh fruit and was told that it was from Allah that she got every morning. Mariam questioned Zakariyah's surprise as he was supposed to know that Allah gives without any limitations to whom He wills. The incident marked a great impression on Zakariyah and he stood out in prayer in his sanctuary all night requesting Allah to bless him with a good son. He knew that he was himself ninety years old and his wife had been long past the childbearing age, however he had full faith in Allah's power and mercy as nothing was impossible for the Almighty. Zakariyah's call in secret to Allah for a son was fulfilled and he was given the glad tidings of Yahya (John), pure from sins, righteous and dutiful towards his parents and neither arrogant nor disobedient. As a sign of this miracle, Zakariyah was told by Allah not to speak to mankind for three days except with signals, and was commanded to worship his Lord as much as possible and glorify Him in the afternoon and evening. According to some historians grass became the food of Zakariyah during these three days as he joined the animals for dinner from the fear of mixing with mankind. Zakariyah did not see his son for three days and on the fourth day found him weeping in a grave. Yahya complained to his father of not being told that the span between Heaven and Hell can only be crossed by the tears of weepers. Thus they both wept asking forgiveness and mercy from Allah. According to Islamic Traditions Zakariyah died a martyr's death by escaping from the Israelites and hiding inside a tree which had opened to admit him. Zakariyah was believed to have been betrayed by Iblis, the devil, who pointed out the hem of the Prophet's cloak protruding from the trunk. The Israelites began to saw the tree apart and with it Zakariyah, who did not even utter a faint cry when his body was being cut into two.

The angel Jibril came to Mariam (pbuh) in the shape of a man. Mariam (pbuh) covered he self warning the man that she was a servant of Allah‟s and that she seeks refuge in Allah. Mariam (pbuh) said [019.020] “How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste?” [019.021] Jibril replied that she should not be afraid that this is the will of Allah. Allah is capable of all things he creates life and can take life. This is a simple task.

Mariam (pbuh) became pregnant with 'Isa (pbuh). She left the grand mosque hiding herself away in the desert. The pain of her childbirth brought her to a palm tree she laid beneath it. She gave birth to 'Isa (pbuh) in solitude. She was to weak to move and an angel again came to her told her to shake the tree and dates will fall for food and drink from here. A spring of water came from the ground next to where Mariam (pbuh) lay. He also told her that when the people ask of 'Isa (pbuh) to stay quite that 'Isa (pbuh) will bare witness for her.

When Mariam (pbuh) returned to her people the Quran says [019.028] O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot. [019.029] Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy ?[019.030] He spoke: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet, [019.032] And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant. [019.033] Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! 'Isa (pbuh) fell silent at that. The people we‟re too shocked to speak, they scattered.

'Isa (pbuh) was around the age of thirty when Allah began to reveal the divine messages to him. 'Isa (pbuh) began to teach the oneness of Allah to the people of Banu Israel. He would perform many miracles to the people of Israel. Some of the miracles include turning mud into birds, healing the sick and blind, he even brought the dead back to life. 'Isa (pbuh) fed a thousand people from a single loaf of bread. All of these miracles we‟re performed with prayer and faith in Allah. He affirmed the Torah and confirmed the Halal and Haram foods for humans. 'Isa (pbuh) also forbid all selling and trading inside of Bait-ul-maqqadas. To purify it for worship. 'Isa (pbuh) was met with constant criticism. He had only twelve true companions, they we‟re also know as the twelve apostles of 'Isa (pbuh). The twelve men would follow 'Isa (pbuh) around and assist in his teachings.

Banu Israel was against the teachings of 'Isa (pbuh) and plotted with the Romans to have 'Isa (pbuh) killed. They framed him for treason. A crime that is punishable by crucifixion. They began the hunt for 'Isa (pbuh). It was one of his companions by the name of Judaist that turned him in to the government.

Before the crucifixion Allah bestowed mercy on 'Isa (pbuh) and changed the appearance of another prisoner to look like 'Isa (pbuh). The other prisoner was crucified in his place. The Governor of Rome and the Israelites believed that they

Maryam (pbuh) had been a dedicated servant of Allah all of her life. She had been raised by her Uncle Zakariya (pbuh) to become the caretaker of bait-ul Muqqadas. She lived in a small room in the bait-ul Muqqadas provided to her by her uncle.

Yahya alai

Section 1:

John (pbuh) was born a stranger to the world of children who used to amuse themselves, as he was serious all the time. Most children took delight in torturing animals whereas, he was merciful to them. He fed the animals from his food until there was nothing left for him, and he just ate fruit or leaves of trees.

John loved reading since childhood. When he grew up, Allah the Exalted called upon him: "O John! Hold fast to the Scripture (The Torah)." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. (Ch 19:12 Quran).

Allah guided him to read the Book of Jurisprudence closely; thus, he became the wisest and most knowledgeable man of that time. Therefore, Allah the Almighty endowed him with the faculties of passing judgments on people's affairs, interpreting the secrets of religion, guiding people to the right path, and warning them against the wrong one.

John reached maturity. His compassion for his parents, as well as for all people and all creatures, increased greatly. He called people to repent their sins.

There are quite a number of traditions told about John. Ibn Asaker related that one time his parents were looking for him and found him at the Jordan River. When they met him, they wept sorely, seeing his great devotion to Allah, Great and Majestic.

Ibn Wahb said that, according to Malik, grass was the food of John Ibn Zakariyah, and he wept sorely in fear of Allah. A chain of narrators reported that Idris Al Khawlawi said: "Shall I not tell you he who had the best food? It is John Ibn Zakariyah, who joined the beasts at dinner, fearing to mix with men."

Ibn Mubarak stated that Wahb Ibn Al-Ward narrated that Zakariayah did not see his son for three days. He found him weeping inside a grave which he had dug and in which he resided. "My son, I have been searching for you, and you are dwelling in this grave weeping!" "O father, did you not tell me that between Paradise and Hell is only a span, and it will not be crossed except by tears of weepers?" He said to him: "Weep then, my son." Then they wept together.

Other narrations say that John (pbuh) said: "The dwellers of Paradise are sleepless out of the sweetness of Allah's bounty; that is why the faithful must be sleepless because of Allah's love in their hearts. How far between the two luxuries, how far between them?"

They say John wept so much that tears marked his cheeks. He found comfort in the open and never cared about food. He ate leaves, herbs, and sometimes locusts. He slept anywhere in the mountains or in holes in the ground. He sometimes would find a lion or a bear as he entered a cave, but being deeply absorbed in praising Allah, he never heeded them. The beasts easily recognized John as the prophet who cared for all the creatures, so they would leave the cave, bowing their heads.

John sometimes fed those beasts, out of mercy, from his food and was satisfied with prayers as food for his soul. He would spend the night crying and praising

Allah for His blessings.

When John called people to worship Allah, he made them cry out of love and submission, arresting their hearts with the truthfulness of his words.

A conflict took place between John and the authorities at that time. A tyrant king, Herod Antipas, the ruler of Palestine, was in love with Salome, his brother's daughter. He was planning to marry his beautiful niece. The marriage was encouraged by her mother and by some of the learned men of Zion, either out of fear or to gain favor with the ruler.

On hearing the ruler's plan, John pronounced that such a marriage would be incestuous. He would not approve it under any circumstance, as it was against the Law of the Torah.

John's pronouncement spread like wildfire. Salome was angry, for it was her ambition to rule the kingdom with her uncle. She plotted to achieve her aim. Dressing attractively, she sang and danced before her uncle. Her arousing Herod's lust. Embracing her, he offered to fulfill whatever she desired. At once she told hi: "I would love to have the head of John, because he has defiled your honor and mine throughout the land. If you grant me this wish, I shall be very happy and will offer myself to you." Bewitched by her charm, he submitted to her monstrous request. John was executed and his head was brought to Salome. The cruel woman gloated with delight. But the death of Allah's beloved prophet was avenged. Not only she, but all the children of Israel were severely punished by invading armies which destroyed their kingdom.

Musa (Alai) Section 1:

The pharaoh (Firaun) was in control of the land of Egypt. He had forced the Israelis into slavery. So when they saw that the number of Israelis was increasing they sent out a decree to the people. The pharaoh said "All new born male children of the Banu Israel will be killed."

It was a cruel hardship for the people to bare and they tried desperately to resist, even the guards, afraid of the pharaoh had no choice but to obey his wicked decree. Allah's divine plans would not be hindered by the pharaoh. The baby Musa (pbuh) was born to a god fearing women, who received a message from Allah [020.08] "Feed him and, when you are afraid for him, then cast him into the river and fear not nor grieve. Lo! We shall bring him back unto thee and shall make him (one) of Our messengers. Musa's (pbuh) mother did just this she placed him in a basket of reeds wrapped in a blanket. Then in the dark of night she sent him into the river. Her heart nearly burst with pain.

Musa's (pbuh) basket had made its down the river to one of the palaces of the Pharaoh. The queen saw the basket and ordered her servant to retrieve it. The queen having no child of her own was instantly taken by Musa (pbuh) and asked the pharaoh if she may raise the baby as their son. They named the baby Musa (pbuh). Which, in the old Egyptian language meant "pulled out of water. " When the news reached Musa's (pbuh) mother. that a baby had been found by the palace, she sent her daughter to watch over him.

Musa (pbuh) became very hungry and was refusing to take milk from any of the women that offered their service. He was near to death when a girl came forward and suggested the service of her mother, whose baby had been recently slain. The girl rushed home and informed her mother. The mother of Musa (pbuh) came to the palace and pretended that she had lost her own son. She offered her milk to Musa (pbuh), he responded immediately to the nursing. His own mother was then hired to nurse him. She was consoled greatly by this action, but never revealed her identity. Allah had returned her baby.

Section 2:

And remember Musa (Alai) said to his people: "O my people! Ye have indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf so turn (in repentance) to your Maker and slay yourselves (the wrong-doers); that will be better for you in the sight of your Maker." Then He turned toward you (in forgiveness); for He is Oft-returning Most Merciful.

Hazrat Dawood Alaihis salaam ( David ) was the King of his people. He had 19 sons, each one of them hoped to inherit the father's throne. Allah revealed to Hazrat Dawood Alaihis-salaam a few questions and their answers and commanded him to put those questions to each one of his sons. Whosoever answered those questions correctly, would inherit his throne. One day Hazrat Dawood Alaihis salaam called all his sons in the presence of the scholars and the chiefs of the tribes of his kingdom. He then put forward the following questions: 1) Which thing is closest (nearest) to man? 2) Which is the farthest thing? 3) Which two things are attached to each other? 4) Which is the most awe-creating thing? 5, Which two things remain unchanged? 6) Which two things are always different? 7) Which two things are opposed to each other?

What is the action the result of which is good? 9) What is that action the result of which is bad? The first 18 sons of Hazrat Dawood Alaihis-salaam felt helpless and could not answer any of these questions. Then the youngest of the sons, Hazrat Sulaiman Alaihis-salaam (Solomon) stood up and gave the following answers: The nearest things to a man is the hereafter (Life and Death - as one may die any moment); The farthest things is the time which has passed away (which is not to come again); The two things that are attached to each other is man's body with the soul; The most awe-creating is the man's body (dead) without soul; The two things which remain the same are the sky and the earth; The two things which are different are the day and night; The two things which are opposed to each other are life and death; The action - the end of which is good - is patience and forbearance at the time of anger; The action - the end of which is bad is haste at the time of anger.

Sulaiman (pbuh) was the son of Dawud (pbuh). From his father he learned allot, and was subsequently appointed Prophet and king after his father. Allah gave him immense wisdom and power over all creation, including the jinns.

Sulaiman (pbuh) was known for his wisdom and fair justice in all the lands. His kingdom expanded as far east as Euphrates river, as far west as Egypt, and as far south as Yemen.

One of the stories of Sulaiman (pbuh) was that of his wife. Queen of Saba, named Bilqis before they married. Bilqis was a wise ruler but her people worshiped the sun and moon. Sulaiman (pbuh) told them to stop but, instead they tried to offer him gifts. Sulaiman (pbuh) was angered by their insolence. Sulaiman (pbuh) took an army, set on forcing them to submit to Allah.

On his journey Sulaiman (pbuh) was passing through a valley of ants. He heard an ant speak. She said to him many things. He was overcome with mercy for the Bilqis' people and decided not to harm them. Bilqis had been warned of what was happening. She, herself left her palace to set straight the relationship between the two kingdoms.

Once the Queen had departed Sulaiman (pbuh) ordered a jinn to bring a throne to him from her castle. When Bilqis arrived she was forced to identify her throne and was in awe of the wisdom and power that Sulaiman (pbuh) had been given. She gave up her kingdom to become his wife and lived with him and by his side.

Sulaiman (pbuh) was also known for completing the construction of Bait-ul-Muqaddas whose foundations were laid by his father. Sulaiman (pbuh) lived for over eighty years. May peace be upon Sulaiman (pbuh).

Dhul-Kifl (Alai) Section 1:

Among the prophets between David and Zakariah is Isaiah (pbuh), Ibn Amoz (Amisiah). According to Muhammad Ibn Ishaaq, Isaiah (pbuh) appeared before Zakariah (pbuh) and Yahya (John the Baptist) (pbuh). He is among those who prophesied about Isa (Jesus) (pbuh) and Muhammad (pbuh). The king during his time was called Hezekiah (Hazkia). He listened and was obedient to Isaiah in what he advised him to do and prohibit for the good of the state. Affairs took momentum among the Israelites. The king became sick with an infected foot. While he was sick, King Sennacherib (Sinharib) of Babylon advanced towards Jerusalem with sixty thousand men.

The people were greatly terrified. The King asked Isaiah: "What did Allah reveal to you regarding Sennacherib and his army?" He replied: "He has not yet revealed anything to me." Then the revelation came down for King Hezekiah to appoint a successor, as he wished, because his end was at hand. When Isaiah told him this, the king turned to the qibla (the direction faced in prayer); he prayed, glorified Allah, invoked Him, and wept. Weeping and invoking Allah the All-Powerful and majestic with a sincere heart, trust and patience, he said: "O Lord of lords, and God of gods! O, Benevolent and Merciful One Whom neither sleep nor nodding can overpower, remember me for my deeds and my just judgment over the children of Israel; and all that was from You, and You know it better than I do, my open acts and my secrets are with You."

Allah answered his prayers had compassion on him. He revealed to Isaiah to tell him the glad tidings that He had compassion for his weeping and would extend his life for a further fifteen years and save him from the enemy, Sennacherib. When Isaiah told this to Hezekiah, his disease was healed. Evil and sadness departed, and he fell prostrate, saying: "O Lord, it is You Who grants kingship to whomsoever You wish and dethrones whomsoever You wish and elevates whomsoever You wish and degrades whomsoever You wish, Knower of the unseen and the evident. And lo! You are the First and the Last; the Manifest and the Perceived; You grant mercy and answer the prayers of the troubled ones."

When he raised his head, Allah revealed to Isaiah to command the king to extract the water of the fig and apply it to his sore, and he would be whole and cured. He did so and was cured.

Then Allah sent death upon the army of Sennacherib. In the morning they were all corpses, except Sennacherib and five of his companions, among them Nebuchadnezzar (Bukhtanasar). The king of Israel immediately sent for them, put them in shackles and displayed them in the land for seventy days to spite and insult them. Every day each of them was fed a loaf of barley bread; after seventy days he confined them in prison.

Allah then revealed to Isaiah that the king should send them back to their country so that they might warn their people what would happen to them. When they returned, Sennacherib gathered his people and told them what had happened to them. The priests and magicians said to him: "We told you about their Lord and their prophets, but you did not listen to us. It is a nation which, with their God, nobody can overcome." So, Sennacherib was afraid of Allah. He died seven years later.

Ibn Ishaaq also reported that when King Hezekiah of Israel died, the Israelites' condition deteriorated; there was political confusion, and their wickedness increased. Isaiah preached to them what Allah revealed to him, directing them to righteousness and warning them of Allah's severe punishment. His preaching made him their enemy and they decided to kill him, so he escaped from them.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW)(1) Section 1:

More than 1400 years ago in Arabia the people were living very much in fear. They feared their neighbours. They feared other tribes. They even feared their idols. For this was the time before Islam. The Arabs were worshipping idols. In their ignorance they would bury their newly born daughters alive. As Islam began to spread among Arabs such cruel practices stopped. For Islam taught love and peace. It taught kindness and respect. Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wsalam) himself was a very kind and loving person. He treated every one, young and old, with kindness and respect. Because Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wsalam) was spreading the word of God, because he was changing, for better, the lives of many Arabs and because some Arabs felt that by the teachings of Muhammad their old idols were losing power they disliked Muhammad and planned to kill him. Every time they tried to kill him, they failed. This angered the enemies of Islam even more. So they began to harass him in every way they knew. One old woman made a habit of throwing rubbish on Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wsalam) whenever he passed from her house! Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wsalam) had to pass that house daily on the way to the mosque. Even when the old woman threw rubbish on him, he would pass silently without showing any anger or annoyance. This was a regular, daily event. One day when the Prophet was passing by, the woman was not there to throw the rubbish. He stopped, and asked the neighbour about her well-being, and wondering why she wasn't dropping any rubbish on him. The neighbour informed the Prophet that the woman was sick on bed. The Prophet politely asked permission to visit the woman. When allowed he entered the house, the woman thought that he had come there to take his revenge when she was unable to defend herself because of sickness. But the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wsalam) assured her that he had come to her, not to take any revenge, but to see her and to look after her needs, as it was the command of Allah that if anyone is sick, a Muslim should visit him and should help him if his help is needed. The old woman was greatly moved by this kindness and love of the Prophet. By the example of greatness of Muhammad, she understood that he was truly the Prophet of God and Islam was the true religion. She accepted Islam at once, Alhamdulillah.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (2) Section 1:

Muhammad [s.a.w] was born in Bani Hashim lane in Makkah on Monday morning, the ninth of Rabi„ Al-Awwal, the same year of the Elephant Event. Muhammad‟s mother said: "When he was born, there was a light that issued out of my pudendum (genital organs) and lit the palaces of Syria." His mother immediately sent someone to inform his grandfather „Abdul-Muttalib of the happy event. Happily he came to her, carried him to Al-Ka„bah, prayed to Allah and thanked Him. „Abdul-Muttalib called the baby Muhammad, a name not then common among the Arabs.

Babyhood:

It was the general custom of the Arabs living in towns to send their children away to bedouin wet nurses so that they might grow up in the free and healthy surroundings of the desert. The Prophet was later entrusted to Haleemah bint Abi Dhuaib.Muhammad had several foster brothers and sisters, „Abdullah Ibn Al-Harith, Aneesah bint Al-Haarith, Hudhafah or Judhamah bint Al-Haarith (known as Ash-Shayma‟), and she used to nurse the Prophet and Abu Sufyan Ibn Al-Haarith Ibn „Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet‟s cousin. Traditions relate how Haleemah and the whole of her household were favoured by successive strokes of good fortune while the baby Muhammad lived under her care. It was a year of drought and famine and we had nothing to eat. I rode on a brown she-ass. We also had with us an old she-camel. By Allah we could not get even a drop of milk. We could not have a wink of sleep during the night for the child kept crying on account of hunger. There was not enough milk in my breast and even the she-camel had nothing to feed him. We used to constantly pray for rain and immediate relief. At length we reached Makkah looking for children to suckle. Not even a single woman amongst us accepted the Messenger of Allah offered to her. As soon as they were told that he was an orphan, they refused him. We had fixed our eyes on the reward that we would get from the child‟s father. An orphan! What are his grandfather and mother likely to do? So we spurned him because of that. Every woman who came with me got a suckling and when we were about to depart, I said to my husband: "By Allah, I do not like to go back along with the other women without any baby. I should go to that orphan and I must take him." He said, "There is no harm in doing so and perhaps Allah might bless us through him." So I went and took him because there was simply no other alternative left for me but to take him. When I lifted him in my arms and returned to my place I put him on my breast and to my great surprise, I found enough milk in it. He drank to his heart‟s content, and so did his foster brother and then both of them went to sleep although my baby had not been able to sleep the previous night. My husband then went to the she-camel to milk it and, to his astonishment; he found plenty of milk in it. He milked it and we drank to our fill, and enjoyed a sound sleep during the night. The next morning, my husband said: "By Allah Haleemah, you must understand that you have been able to get a blessed child." And I replied: "By the grace of Allah, I hope so."

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (3) Section 1:

Muhammad discovered that the Quraysh had plotted to kill him rather than to allow him to emigrate to Madinah where he might entrench the forces of Islam for a resolute stand against Makkah and from where he might cut off its trade with al Sham. No one doubted that Muhammad would hence-forth seize any opportunity to carry out his plan for emigration. But no one knew of any plans he might have had; not even Abu Bakr, who had been commanded to keep two beasts alert and ready ever since he asked the Prophet for permission to emigrate and the Prophet advised him to wait. Muhammad remained in Makkah until he learned of the Quraysh's plot to assassinate him, and until none but the fewest Muslims were still left there with him. He waited for the command of his Lord for emigration. When, finally, that command did come, he went to the house of Abu Bakr and informed him of the permission God had granted. He asked Abu Bakr to accompany him on the trip.

When the two men planned to leave Makkah they were absolutely certain that Quraysh would follow them in their trail in order to seize them and bring them back. Hence, Muhammad decided to surprise his enemies by leaving under circumstances and at a time hardly conceivable to them. The young men whom the Quraysh had prepared for performing the assassination had blockaded his house during the night in fear that he might run away. On the night of the Hijrah, Muhammad confided his plan to 'Ali and asked him to cover himself with the Prophet's green mantle from Hadramawt and to sleep in the Prophet's bed. He further asked him to tarry in Makkah until he had returned all things left with Muhammad to their rightful owners. The Quraysh men waiting to kill the Prophet felt reassured whenever, looking through a hole in the door, they saw somebody sleeping in the Prophet's bed. Just before dawn, Muhammad left without being noticed, picked up Abu Bakr at the latter's house and from there they proceeded through a back door southward toward the cave of Thawr.

Nobody knew of their hiding place in the cave except 'Abdullah, son of Abu Bakr, his two sisters, 'A'ishah and Asma', and their servant 'Amir ibn Fuhayrah. 'Abdullah spent his day in Makkah listening to what the Quraysh said and plotted about Muhammad and then reported it to the pair at their hideout under cover of night. 'Amir grazed the sheep of Abu Bakr and passed by the cave in the evening in order to give them some milk and meat. Upon 'Abdullah's return from the cave, 'Amir would follow him with all his sheep and then conceal any trace of his steps. For three long days, the pair remained in the cave and the Quraysh persistently looked for them without avail. For the Quraysh it was absolutely necessary to find Muhammad and to prevent his emigration to Yathrib. Meanwhile, Muhammad spent most of his time praying to God and invoking his blessings, and Abu Bakr continually sought to find out whether they were being discovered and to look after their security.

When they found a shepherd in the vicinity, they asked him about Muhammad and Abu Bakr. He answered, "Perhaps they are within the cave, although I have not seen anyone go in or out." When he heard the shepherd's answer, Abu Bakr trembled with fear and expected the Quraysh to break into the cave any moment. He withdrew into a corner and, trusting in God, remained motionless. Some members of the Quraysh party climbed up to the cave, and the foremost among them turned round as soon as he saw the cave entrance. His companions asked him, "Why have you not gone into the cave? He answered, "Its

entrance is covered with cobwebs, and there is a pair of wild pigeons on the threshold. Obviously, no one could have gone in without disturbing the pigeons and destroying the cobwebs." At that moment, Muhammad prayed while Abu Bakr continued to shake with fear. To Abu Bakr, who pressed ever closer to Muhammad, the latter whispered, "Do not grieve; God is with us." According to some Hadith books, it is reported that when the Quraysh party arrived at the cave entrance, Abu Bakr exclaimed: "If any one of them looks at his feet he will find us," and that the Prophet had answered, "O Abu Bakr, how can you fear for two men whose constant companion is God Himself?" The Quraysh men were further convinced that the cave was empty when they saw the entrance to the cave covered indeed blocked with branches growing from a tree nearby. They then agreed to leave and called one another for their return to Makkah. Only then did the two refugees within the cave feel reassured. Abu Bakr's faith in God and His Prophet became stronger, and Muhammad prayed: "Praise be to God! God is greater than all!"

Section 2:

Section 3: How can you apply this in your daily life? So long as Allahu SWT wills to help you, even the impossible will happen!

"When the unbelievers plotted to imprison you, to kill you or to banish you, God planned on your behalf, and He is the best of planners. . . If you [the people] do not help Muhammad, then know that God Will. For God helped him when the unbelievers drove him out, and he and his companion hid in the cave. At that time, the Prophet said to his companion, `Grieve not for God is with us.' It was then that God sent down his peace upon him and assisted him with hosts invisible that the word of God might be supreme and that of the unbelievers might be repudiated. God is almighty and all wise."

The cobwebs, the two wild pigeons, and the tree and its branches these are the miracles which the biography books relate concerning the hiding in the cave of Thawr. The miracle is that none of these things were there when the Prophet and his companion entered the cave, and that thereafter, the spider hurried to weave its cobwebs, the two pigeons to build their nest and to lay their eggs, and the tree to grow its branches around the door. In this connection the Orientalist Dermenghem wrote, "These three things are the only miracles recorded in authentic Mussulman history: the web of a spider, the love of a dove, the sprouting of a flower three miracles accomplished daily on God's earth."

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (4) Section 1

In this visionary experience the angel Gabriel escorted Mohammed from his humble quarters to the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. There the Buraq, a fantastic steed with the body of a horse, the head of a woman and the wings of a bird, greeted him. She shone with dazzling white brightness and her tremendous strength bore Mohammed up into the cosmos through the various divine dimensions. Gabriel escorted Mohammed on the Buraq through the seven heavens. Each heaven had its own guardian angel and resident prophet who ruled the dimension in accordance with God‟s laws. Mohammed bowed to guardian angels who determined his readiness to enter into their heaven, and then Mohammed respectfully paid homage to the reigning prophet. The prophet in turn blessed Mohammed and ushered him on to the next heaven and so on. At the sixth heaven Gabriel brought Mohammed to the verge of the seventh. The archangel said that he himself could go no further. This, the seventh heaven, was the last frontier between god and man and Mohammed was ushered into the place described as the abode of God almighty. Their Mohammed saw a beautiful, radiant tree with wondrous multicolored leaves. It was here that he communed with God and learned of his true purpose. This beautiful and inspiring vision has motivated millions of Muslims for more than a thousand years. Its significance becomes even more universal when we examine it from the perspective of kundalini awakening, using the symbolic language of the universal unconscious. The seven heavens through which Mohammed passed must of course correspond to the seven chakras that exist within the human body. Each chakra, say the yogis, is the abode of a special deity whose character embodies the chakra‟s innate spiritual qualities. The human chakra system is a microcosm for the entire Eastern pantheon of gods, goddesses and heavenly beings. The prophets and angels that Mohammed encountered in each heaven could well have been these same inner deities that the yogis personally discovered through intense meditation.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) (5) Section 1:

The emigration of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) to Medina had turned the enemies from Mecca more hostile, and they constantly kept on thinking how they could overthrow him, and put an end to Islam. The Meccans and their allies started to bring their raids to the very outskirts of Medina, destroying the fruit trees of the Muslims and carrying away their flocks.

Receiving information about this force, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) decided to meet the enemy outside Medina at a place called as Badr (200 Miles from Mecca and 80 Miles from Medina). He set out with three hundred and thirteen (313) of his followers. This small force was marshaled out of Medina with the youthful Ali holding the Banner of the Prophet (S.A.W).

The battle of Badr was the most important among the Islamic battles of Destiny. For the first time the followers of the new faith were put into a serious test. Had victory been the lot of the pagan army while the Islamic Forces were still at the beginning of their developments, the faith of Islam could have come to an end.

No one was aware of the importance of the outcome of the Battle as the Prophet (S.A.W.) himself. We might read the depth of his anxiety in his prayer before the beginning of the Battle when he stood up supplicating his Lord:

"God this is Quraish. It has come with all its arrogance and boastfulness, trying to discredit Thy Apostle. God, I ask Thee to humiliate them tomorrow. God, if this Muslim band will perish today, Thou shall not be worshipped."

Warfare in those days followed a different pattern. Before the general battle began, a number of duels were fought between the leading warriors on each side. When the Muslims reached the fertile vale of Badr, a favorite watering place and camping ground on the caravan route, three stations northwards from Mecca, the Prophet (S.A.W) ordered a halt, taking up a suitable position near a stream of fresh water, to await the arrival of the infidel army. It was on the next day, Friday, 17th Ramazan 2 AH or January 13th 624 AD that the enemy, blowing their trumpets, approached the Muslims, and both forces were arrayed in battle.

Three of the infidel warriors, Utbah, the father-in-law of Abu Sufyan, his brother Shaybah, and Al-Walid son of Utbah came out of the ranks and arrogantly challenged the Muslims. Three Ansars of Medina stepped forward to meet this challenge. This greatly enraged the Meccans who refused to combat with the Ansars saying, "We have not come all this way to cross arms with the Medinites, against whom we bear no grudge. We challenge the people of Mecca who have the courage to defy us." Upon this Ali and Ubaydah, cousins of the Prophet, and Hamzah his uncle, responded to the challenge. In the words of Col. Bodley, "At the taunt of the Quriashite, Ali dashed out of the Muslim ranks glittering in breast-plate and helmet. He was soon followed by Ubaydah bin al-Harith, a paternal cousin of Muhammad and Hamzah who wore an ostrich feather in his Cuirass. The three companions were thus closely related to Muhammad and fulfilled the Quraish for Hashimite (the clan of the Prophet) blood!"

History Book_P3 2011_’Book of Miracles’_Ayeshah Ust and Helpers

رينة الصابمدرس Page 76

The three duels were as rapid as they were murderous. Hamzah killed Shaybah, While Ali killed Al-Walid. Ubaydah was mortally wounded, but before he fell, Ali and Hamzah were able to come to his rescue. Hamzah hurled himself at Utbah, and with a sweep of his sword cut off his head. In a few minutes three of Mecca's most important warriors had been sent to find out the truth about the hell which Muhammad (S.A.W) had promised them!" Ubaydah was the first martyr at this battle. He died after he lost his leg.

With a cry of rage three more Meccans darted from under Abu Jahl's banner and assailed the Muslim champions (Ali and Hamzah). They too went down before the sword of Islam. A further three were dealt with the same fate. There was a moment of hesitancy among the Quraishites. Muhammad (S.A.W) did not miss his advantage. With a sharp order he sent his soldiers charging into a general attack.

When the general offensive began, hundreds of companions participated in the battle and offered sacrifices and pleased their Lord. But the members of the house of the Messenger (S.A.W.) distinguished themselves. Ali's endeavor was unique at this battle. When Hanthala Ibn Abu Sufyan faced him, Ali liquefied his eyes with one blow from his sword. He annihilated Al Auss Ibn Saeed, and met Tuaima Ibn Oday and transfixed him with his spear, saying "You shall not dispute with us in God after today."

The Messsnger (S.A.W.) took a handful of gravel when the battle was extremely heated. He threw it at the faces of the pagans saying "May your faces be disfigured. God, terrify their hearts and invalidated their feet." The pagans ran away, turning their faces to no one.

The line of the Quraish wavered and a number of their bravest and noblest fell; they took to flight ignominiously, and in their haste to escape they threw away their armor and abandoned their transport animals with all their camp and equipage. Seventy of the bravest Quraish were slain and forty-five taken prisoners, and their commander, Abu Jahl and Hanzala Ibn Abu Sofyan, were amongst the slain.

Though it was the first engagement of the youthful Ali, he showed surprising results and was praised by one and all. He killed no less than sixteen-though some historians give him credit for thirty-six of the bravest and the most prominent of the Quraish army.

This battle laid the foundation of the Islamic State and made out of the Muslims a force to be reckoned with by the dwellers of the Arabic Peninsula

2. How did the Islam win despite the big difference in the numbers of the quraiyshies and the Muslims?

3. Why do you think that Badr war is one of the most important wars for islam?

Fight against those who fight against you in the way of Allah, but do not transgress, for Allah does not love transgressors.. Kill them whenever you confront them and drive them out from where they drove you out. (For though killing is sinful) wrongful persecution is even worse than killing. Do not fight against them near the Holy Mosque unless they fight against you; but if they fight against you kill them, for that is the reward of such unbelievers.. Then if they desist, know well that Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Compassionate.. Keep on fighting against them until mischief ends and the way prescribed by Allah prevails. But if they desist, then know that hostility is only against the wrong-doers.. The sacred month for the sacred month; sanctities should be respected alike ( by all concerned). Thus, if someone has attacked you, attack him just as he attacked you, and fear Allah and remain conscious that Allah is with those who guard against violating the bounds set by Him.

There were only 300 Muslims fighting in the Battle of Badr. About 1000 quraiysh fought in the battle of Badr. The Muslims were outnumbered three to one.
