Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to present yet another interesting issue of GVK WORLD for your reading pleasure.

It was a momentous occasion for all of us when GVK MIAL won the bid to build and operate for the Navi Mumbai International Airport (GVK NMIA) and received the Letter of Award (LOA) on 25 October 2017. Subsequently, Dr GVK Reddy, Chairman, GVK NMIAL signed the Concession Agreement for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project along with Mr Bhushan Gagrani, the then Vice Chairman & MD of CIDCO on 8 January, 2018.

On 18 February, 2018, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi unveiled the foundation plaque at the ground breaking ceremony for the Navi Mumbai International Airport at the project site.

In yet another significant step towards the creation of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, Dr GVK Reddy, Chairman GVK NMIAL signed an MoU along with Mr. R. N. Chaubey, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India at a meeting held in Mumbai on 11 April, 2018, that will enable the setting up of a Joint Coordination Committee with representatives of all the agencies, to ensure smooth and efficient rendering of the Reserved Services such as CNS/ATM Services, Customs Control, Immigration Services, Plant Quarantine Services, Animal Quarantine Services, Health Services, Meteorological Services and Security Services.

At GVK, we always believe in going beyond our business for the upliftment of the Society. We are delighted to publish a detailed plan for GVK EMRI as envisioned by Dr. K. Krishnam Raju, Director, GVK EMRI.

GVK BIO has ramped up operations and commissioned its new unit at the Pharma SEZ in Visakhapatnam. With two production blocks in Hyderabad with global regulatory approvals (including USFDA) the unit will carry out process R&D and manufacturing. We reproduce an interview of Mr. Manni Kantipudi, CEO, GVK Biosciences for your reading pleasure.

The jewel in the crown, GVK MIAL set new benchmarks when our Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was adjudged the ‘World’s Best Airport’ for customer experience in the over 40 million passengers per year category by Airports Council International on 6th March, 2018. It also brought home a host of awards and recognitions like the Gold - Green Airports recognition 2018 by ACI, ‘Best Airport in India and Central Asia’ by Skytrax, Best Domestic Airport by FICCI’s ‘Wings India Awards 2018’ and many more, details of which you can read in this issue.

TAJ GVK has set a global benchmark in hospitality for environmental sustainability with five of its hotels (Taj Banjara, Taj Chandigarh, Taj Deccan, Taj Krishna and Taj Club House) being awarded Gold Certification and Vivanta By Taj a Silver Certification by EarthCheck, an international leader in environmental benchmarking and certification on 3 April, 2018.

Safety and Health is top priority for us at GVK and we always motivate people to be safe while working. National Safety Week was celebrated at different project sites of GVK with various engagement activities.

And we have lots more for you as you leaf through the pages of this GVK WORLD.

We wish to thank all our colleagues for their contributions in the form of pictures, messages and poems etc. and expect an even better response in the coming months.

Happy Reading!

Mumbai’s position as India’s financial and commercial capital depends on global connectivity and it is also India’s largest city by population. Today, over 40 per cent of India’s exports pass through its airport and seaport. It houses the head offices of major Indian companies as well as multinational corporations. Despite that, Mumbai has only one International airport, the GVK Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport which had handled over 47 million passengers during 2017.

Since GVK CSIA is gradually reaching a point of saturation, the city needs a second International airport to cater to the growing air traffic.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi

unveiled the foundation plaque at the ground breaking ceremony for the Navi Mumbai International Airport at the project site on 18th February, 2018. Present on the occasion were the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri CH. Vidyasagar Rao, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways; Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Shri Nitin Gadkari, the then Union Minister for Civil Aviation Shri P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Dr. GVK Reddy, Founder and Chairman, GVK and Chairman NMIAL, Mr G V Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman GVK and other dignitaries.

It was a momentous occasion for

all of us at GVK on the 8th of January, 2018 when Dr GVK Reddy, our Founder and Chairman signed the Concession Agreement for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project along with Mr Bhushan Gagrani, the then Vice Chairman & MD of CIDCO, in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr Devendra Fadnavis. opportunity to yet again display it’s technical and managerial prowess in the Airport sector after having created the award winning Mumbai airport, for developing and managing the Navi Mumbai International Airport. With the continued support of the Central government, the Maharashtra government, CIDCO and all our stakeholders, we are confident of creating and delivering the much needed second airport for the twin cities of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.”

Then on 14th March, 2018 GVK Navi Mumbai International Airport (P) Ltd., announced the appointment of the globally renowned firm, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) to design the Navi Mumbai International Airport’s Terminal 1 and ATC Tower. The London based ZHA was selected on completion of a challenging and intensive 12 week fast track design

competition amongst the best international architecture firms that were shortlisted by GVK. ZHA is a world renowned firm established in 1979 and is known for its dynamic, innovative

and iconic architecture with a portfolio of over nine hundred and fifty projects spread across forty four nations.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr GVK Reddy, Founder and Chairman, GVK and Chairman NMIAL, said, “Our vision is to establish one more landmark airport that would exceed the benchmarks that GVK had set through MIAL whilst creating Terminal 2 at Mumbai airport. We are committed towards bringing the best global practices from the industry to design, engineer and build this most awaited airport project in India

and hence we decided to go with ZHA, a firm known for its path breaking and remarkable architecture. It also has the expertise of delivering a world class airport design through

a highly professional team.”

visiting the airport site regularly to inspect and guide the GVK Projects team with his vast experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of construction. Mr G V Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman, Mr Krishna R Bhupal, Director and other senior executives from GVK also visit the airport site and take stock of the developments.

We will get you more updates as the work progresses on the Navi Mumbai International Airport project. Meanwhile, here are some interesting places in and around Navi Mumbai :

GVK NMIA is expected to be one of the world’s largest Greenfield International Airport and is

a first for any metropolitan city in India.

In and Around

In and Around: Navi MumbaiNavi Mumbai is widely considered an entry point to Mumbai. The city is divided into two parts, North Navi Mumbai and South Navi Mumbai, for the individual development of Panvel Mega City, which includes the area from Kharghar to Uran. Its location and infrastructure coupled up with affordable

housing and low pollution makes Navi Mumbai the most preferred choice for immigrants coming from in and outside of Maharashtra seeking good living conditions outside Mumbai. The city has been ranked 12th among 73 cities surveyed for cleanliness and hygiene by the Union Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and Quality Council of India (QCI) as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Navi Mumbai also has various recreational facilities such as the golf course, central park and Pandavkada water falls in Kharghar, Parsik Hill near Mahape, Wonders park in Nerul, mini seashore or Sagar Vihar in Vashi, Pirwad and Mankeshwar Beach in Uran and several other public places like gardens and jogging tracks. Navi Mumbai also has many quality restaurants and luxury hotels for accommodation like Four Points by Sheraton and Fortune Exotica. Here are some of the few places to experience….

Pandavkada Falls

Pandavkada Falls is a waterfall located in Kharghar, the suburb of Navi Mumbai. This place derives its name from the Pandavas who once visited this place and took a bath from this waterfall during their exile. This waterfall is approximately 350 metres high, from where the water hits the surface of the rocks with force equivalent to a piercing bullet. The best suggested time to visit these falls is during and after the monsoon season, i.e. June to the beginning of September. This location is easy to reach by local trains operating on the Harbour Line and Trans Harbour Line.

Central ParkCentral Park is one of Asia’s largest theme parks located in Sectors 23, 24 and 25 of Kharghar in Navi Mumbai. It is developed and maintained by City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO). Central Park is the perfect spot to relax, jog or even go for a long walk to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the botanical gardens. If you are travelling by train, you would have to get down at Kharghar railway station and take an auto to get to the Central Park. This park spread across 80 hectares boasts of vegetation so rich that it soothes your senses and gives you a good break. The park is surely a nice place to spend the evenings with family, kids and friends.

Karnala Bird SanctuaryThe Karnala Bird Sanctuary is located at a distance of 26 km from Navi Mumbai. The sanctuary is situated on the Mumbai-Pune Highway connecting the destination with Goa and can be ideally visited between the months of October and April. This bird sanctuary is situated at the foot of the Karnala Fort and was established in 1968. There are more than 150 species of birds

GVK WORLD I Oct 2017 - March 2018 10

inhabiting this sanctuary and around 37 species of migratory birds. At the beginning of the monsoon season, travellers can spot the paradise flycatcher with its fairy-like white streamers, the shama or the magpie robin and the Malabar whistling thrush. Two rare species of birds, namely Ashy Minivet and Malabar Trogon can also be seen at this site.

D Y Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai

D Y Patil Stadium is a cricket stadium located in D Y Patil Vidyanagari campus in Navi Mumbai. Designed by one of India’s renowned architects, Hafeez Contractor, this stadium has all the facilities available in an international cricket stadium. Furthermore, this stadium has 9 tennis hard courts, 4 indoor badminton courts and swimming pool, among others. The stadium can accommodate up to 55,000 visitors at a time. Apart from this, the stadium also has a unique cantilever roof, thereby eliminating the requirement of a support. This feature provides spectators an unhindered view of the match from any place within the stadium. This stadium has hosted many IPL matches.

Millennium Business Park, Navi MumbaiMillennium Business Park is one of the biggest business hubs located in Mahape Village, Navi Mumbai. This park has been established and developed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Millennium Business Park or MBP, as it is popularly known, is surrounded by Mahape village and other important areas like MICD, DAKC and TTDC. This Software Park was officially launched on 2nd February 2000, covering an area of about 48 acres. MBP is one of the largest parks in India, which provides sophisticated as well as custom made facilities at reasonable pricing. This site is easily accessible by road from Panvel, Nerul and Vashi that are prominent towns of the region.

Karnala Fort, Navi Mumbai

Karnala Fort, also known as Funnel Hill, is essentially a hill fort located in Raigad District that is around 10 km from Panvel. It is situated within the protected space of Karnala Bird Sanctuary and provides an ideal trekking trail inside the sanctuary. It is believed that this fort was constructed in 1400, during the rule of the Tughlaq rulers, who succeeded the Devagiri Yadavas. During this time period, Karnala was the capital city of the North Konkan District and was taken over by Nizam Shah of Ahmednagar in 1540. This fort was occupied by many over the years, including Shivaji, the Mughals and the Peshwas. In the year 1803, the fort was in the hands of Baji Rao. In 1818, this fort came under the control of British till Indian independence.

Wonder Park, Navi Mumbai

Wonder Park, Navi Mumbai located in Nerul is a picnic spot frequented by locals and tourists alike. This high tech park has many attractions for the whole family. It was built on approximately 30 acres of land and is maintained by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. As the name suggests the main attraction here are the replicas of the Seven Wonders of the World including Taj Mahal. There are high tech joy rides and a toy train in the Park. There are jogging and cycling tracks; a Giant Chess Board and Horse Cart rides inside the Park. The amphitheater here can accommodate 1000 spectators at a time.

GVK EMRI: Using ICT to Give Back to SocietyAs part of its “Giving Back to Society” initiative, GVK EMRI has identified many avenues to work for holistic growth and improvement of the people and the society, leading towards overall societal and economical growth, and thus building the nation.

Dr K Krishnam Raju, Director, GVK EMRI

GVK Emergency management services are undergoing a paramount change and more technology driven concepts are coming into the existing system to increase their efficiency and reduce the “Muda” in turn, which is very soon going to change the face of EMS in India.

We believe in continually improving, hence have partnered with technology driven organizations to bring in mobile app development for real time data collection, automation, appropriate hospitalization, dynamic repositioning of ambulances and other concepts for better monitoring to reduce the time in responding to incident location in our Emergency Ambulance Services (108).

To strengthen our existing Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram project we are planning to bring in “ImTeCHO” (Innovative mobilephone Technology for Community Health Operations) application all across our operational States so that JSSK Service can harness the platform for better performance and increased service delivery. ImTeCHO is an

innovative mobile phone application which connects ASHA’s to PHC staff including medical officers and command center which records the information on all pregnancies including the immunization schedule. This will help in reduction of “2 and 3 Delays in pregnancy” there by having huge impact in both MMR & IMR. ImTeCHO provides support to ASHAs throughout continuum of care starting from beginning of pregnancy up to child completes critical first two years of age.

As part of our “Giving back to Society” initiative, we have identified many other avenues where we can work for holistic growth and improvement of our people and society, leading towards overall societal and economical growth thus building the nation.

We all know that about 20.5 million people depend upon livestock for their livelihood and livestock sector contributes 4.11% to GDP and 25.6% of total Agriculture GDP. We have a huge scope to rebuild and assist our rural economy to develop many a fold in coming years. Considering the same fact in mind, we

GVK WORLD I Oct 2017 - March 2018 12

have already started 1962 Animal ambulance in two States Tamil Nadu and Telangana and hope that this project shall soon be rolled out in all our states.

Study says that one serious road accident in the country occurs every minute and 16 die on Indian roads every hour. An estimated 1,214 road crashes occur every day in India. Two wheelers account for 25% of total road crash deaths. Twenty children under the age of 14 die every day due to road crashes in the country. To counter this, we are working on awareness programmes like “Road Safety Projects” in Gujarat to curtail the road accidents/mishaps and hope that soon it will be rolled out nationwide.

As said earlier also, we are growing gradually and now operating more than 10,900 ambulances nationwide. For effective service delivery, the health of the vehicle has to be always taken care of. Considering the fact in mind, we always look for change and innovate our processes. Currently, we have three-tier maintenance systems i.e. to maintain the ambulance at location by Pilot, to maintain at local vendor workshop either OEM authorised or private vendor or to maintain at GVK EMRI workshops and Mobile Service Vans (MSVs) but still there were some gaps which were unanswered. In order to bridge these gaps and ensure reliability,

uninterrupted, prompt, timely and cost-effective maintenance, we at GVK EMRI have coined a new concept of Satellite work stations in each district with

minimum capital investment and manpower to meet the basic vehicle preventive and BD maintenance.

GVK Bio ramping up operations

Over the last 15-20 years, the pharmaceutical industry has seen radical changes. There is a growth in externalisation and outsourcing of drug discovery globally as the big pharmaceutical companies are increasingly downsizing their internal discovery both due to patent expiration as well as their shift towards biologics. Hyderabad-based Contract Research and Development Company, GVK Biosciences is working closely with large pharmaceutical firms for both drug discovery & development programs. The company is also conducting significant business with small and medium pharma and biotech companies that are engaged in innovation and research and development of new molecules. To tap the opportunities both in drug discovery and development, the company is gearing up with an aggressive growth strategy.

The global pharma industry is valued at $1 trillion. And the outsourcing market is estimated at $115.7 billion last year of which 49 per cent is accounted for

through contract research organizations (CROs). Of the $55.7 billion CRO market, $17.4 billion accounts for discovery-based services while the remaining is pre-clinical and clinical services. Realizing the potential ahead, GVK Biosciences had been offering discovery, chemical development and manufacturing, formulation and analytical solutions.

According to Manni Kantipudi, CEO, GVK Biosciences, “A lot of R&D (over $80 billion) goes into innovator companies while the remaining goes into generics. The largest market in the world is the US and the healthcare cost is almost 20 per cent of the nation’s GDP (while India’s healthcare cost is only about 1-1.5 per cent of the GDP) here. In the last several years, the US has implemented several mechanisms to bring down the costs of healthcare. However, cost of medicines is increasing in the US. An innovator drug costs almost $2 billion dollar to develop it. Pharma companies have to recover their innovation costs and

GVK WORLD I Oct 2017 - March 2018 14

To invest Rs 200-250 crore in two years; integrate US operations

that’s why they have to charge high for their drugs.”

In such a scenario, companies such as GVK Biosciences are offering these pharma companies an ability to bring down the cost of innovation by doing R&D in India using the talent pool for drug discovery, he added.

Growth pathIn the next three years, GVK Biosciences intends to move its drug discovery programmes to development and maximise returns. The company wants to focus on ramping up development, retain leadership in discovery, continue to work with small and medium companies in the US and integrate their US operations with India.

GVK Biosciences, which operates six production blocks in Hyderabad with global regulatory approvals (including USFDA) has commissioned its new unit at Pharma SEZ in Visakhapatnam with two production blocks. The unit will carry out process R&D and

manufacturing. The company, which has recently set up an analytical facility, plans to add new buildings in Hyderabad and Bengaluru campus. It plans to invest Rs.200-250 Crores in the next two years including the facility in Vizag.

The company is operating two subsidiaries, Aragen Bioscience Inc. (based in San Francisco) and Inogent Laboratories, which were brought into the fold of GVK Biosciences through acquisitions. GVK Biosciences and Inogent Laboratories are going to be merged soon. They are going through a legal process and the Court orders are expected around March 2018.

Many companies are coming out with biologics. The new drugs that are being developed today globally are in this segment. These include cell therapy, gene therapy and monoclonal antibodies. Almost half the portfolio of drugs that are in pipeline of pharma majors are biologics. To cater to this segment, Aragen was acquired, which had the credibility, experience & location advantages to meet the global expectations.

There is a huge potential in this space and Aragen which operates in the Bay area could attract best talent to serve the potential markets. Going forward, GVK Biosciences is keen to look at ways to integrate Aragen’s services with Indian operations to leverage the strengths it has here. Biologics research accounts for about 10-12 per cent of the overall activity for GVK Bioscience at present.

Globally, use of Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence for Drug Discovery services is fast catching up – helps reduce cost and fasten up process. GVK BIO is also ahead of the curve of Contract Research firms in India with the recent launch of India’s first mobile app – eCule for Drug Discovery service.

A bouquet of Lifetime Achievement awards for our Chairman

GVK WORLD I Oct 2017 - March 2018 18

We are delighted to share the wonderful news that our dear Founder and Chairman Dr GVK Reddy was conferred with a bouquet of Lifetime Achievement awards during the year 2017,

for his significant contribution to the Indian Infrastructure sector.

Recognitions Events

GVK CSIA was adjudged the ‘World’s Best Airport’ for customer experience in the over 40 million passengers per year category by Airports Council International on 6th March, 2018. Selected by millions of passengers in a survey carried out by ACI, the trade association of 1953 member airports across 176 countries, the award reflects Mumbai airport’s excellence in service parameters that go towards satisfying the needs of travellers.

As part of the ACI’s worldwide programme, passengers were surveyed across international airports for their feedback on 34 key performance indicators including airport access, check-in, security screening, restrooms, stores and restaurants.

A highly regarded accomplishment in the aviation industry, this honour is a testament of GVK MIAL’s unflinching commitment towards operating with an approach that promises efficiency, safety and reliability. The award acknowledges the company’s endeavor’s towards offering a world-class environment to all travellers transiting through the airport.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. GVK Reddy, Founder and Chairman, GVK, said, “We are delighted to be conferred with this award. In 2007, when we

had taken over the complete operations of the airport, the ASQ score was 3.53 and in ten years we have got it to hover around 4.99 out of a maximum 5. It is a testimony to the quality service provided during 2017 to over forty six million travellers by the thirty thousand odd airport community members comprising the CISF, Customs, Immigration teams, airline staff, F&B and retail teams, the housekeeping and maintenance units, and our employees who work at the airport with a mission to constantly raise the bar and create new benchmarks day after day. Going forward, we will continue to strive harder and innovate through technology enabled services to delight our travellers”.

GVK MIAL’s efforts have constantly been focused towards placing CSIA amongst the world’s best airports. The evolution brought through CSIA with respect to services, functionality and operations personifies into a dynamic travel companion that its stakeholders cherish having on their side. Through providing an assortment of world-class facilities to travellers, including the GVK Jaya He New Museum, CSIA has continually made efforts in rendering travel to and from Mumbai as the most desirable and enriching experience.

GVK MIAL sets new world record with single-runway

GVK MIAL set a new record on 24th November 2017, handling 969 flights movements, the highest in a 24-hour period eclipsing its previous best of 935 flights in May 2017 and becoming the world’s busiest amongst the single-runway facility airports overtaking London’s Gatwick airport that handled 757 flights per day.
