10. If a typographicalerror occursin the Gazette, it is rectifiedas soon as possible by a correcting notice without charge totheministry or department concerned,subjectto the following condi-tions—

(a) that such error is reported to the editor within threemonths from the date of publication; and

(b) that the relevant copy, upon re-examination,is proved tobe abundantly clear; and

(c) that the correction of such erroris legally necessary.

(2) Ifa drafting error is not detected before publication, theoriginating ministry or department is required to draft its owncorrecting notice, take it to the Attorney-General for vetting and payfor such notice to be published.

(3) For the removal of doubt—

(a) atypographicalerror is made by a typographer;

(b) atypist’s erroris classed as a drafting error by reason ofthe fact that the officer responsible for drafting failed tocheck the typist’s work.

IT is herebynotified, for general information,thatit is necessarytodrawattentionto the “Conditions for Acceptance ofCopy”, whichappears in every issue of the Gazette; and particularly the need tosubmit lengthy copy, in the case of Statutory Instruments,at least 21days before the date of closing for the Gazette in which the notice isto be published.

During the past few months or so there have been many caseswhere urgent copy for subsidiary legislation, which requires thesignature of the President or a ministerto giveit effect, and whichis of national importance, has been sent in for publication in theGazette after closing-time. Whilst I acknowledgethatit is the dutyof the DepartmentofPrinting and Stationery to give certain noticesspecialtreatment, I am, however,ofthe view that a Gazette Extraor-dinary has tended to be:a must rather than a matter ofpriority in ©respect of unwarranted delays of urgent copy.
