The right light at the right time is pivotal for well-
being. If you sit in front of your computer or on
your smartphone for hours every evening, you
may not sleep so well because the high blue
content has a stimulating effect.
It would be better to have more relaxing warm
white light in the evening. In the morning, intense
cold white light helps us wake up and lets us start
the day faster.
The human daily routine is basically determined
by the brightness of the daylight. Human Centric
Lighting solutions realistically replicate sunlight
over the course of the day – dynamic lighting
alternates between different lighting scenarios
to individually control and positively influence the
personal sleep-awake rhythm.

The factor alpha(smel) describes the melanopic effectiveness of the light
source on humans and their circadian rhythms. In order to support natural
human biorhythms in the best possible way, higher alpha(smel) values can
minimise melatonin release during the day, while lower values can promote it
in the evening. Lighting that is not only visually but also melanopically effective
is made possible by PI-LED. KITEO recommends following DIN SPEC 5031-100
as a basis for standardised lighting design.

The factor alpha(smel) describes the melanopic effectiveness of the light
source on humans and their circadian rhythms. In order to support natural
human biorhythms in the best possible way, higher alpha(smel) values can
minimise melatonin release during the day, while lower values can promote it
in the evening. Lighting that is not only visually but also melanopically effective
is made possible by PI-LED. KITEO recommends following DIN SPEC 5031-100
as a basis for standardised lighting design.

The factor alpha(smel) describes the melanopic effectiveness of the light source on humans and their circadian rhythms. In order to support natural human biorhythms in the best possible way, higher alpha(smel) values can minimise melatonin release during the day, while lower values can promote it in the evening. Lighting that is not only visually but also melanopically effective is made possible by PI-LED. KITEO recommends following DIN SPEC 5031-100 as a basis for standardised lighting design.

The K-ZWALLY can be integrated into a higher-level NeoLink network, set up using the NeoLink USB stick or the NeoLink Box, and can then be
assigned to group of luminaires.
The information for operation is transmitted over distances of up to 100 m using a routing process based on the Mesh
network technology, and all this with very low energy consumption. Thanks to a wide range of controls, there is also a
suitable interface to the lighting control for every structural situation and every user. In addition to wall knobs and the
myPI-LED app for smartphones and tablets (Android and iOS), there is also a USB stick with myPI-LED software for manual
or fully automatic control from a PC or laptop.
If the light controlled by the Wally or the app is switched on between
11:30 pm and 5:00 am, a dimming level of 5% at a colour temperature
of 1800 K is set automatically.
This applies if the luminaire is switched on either directly via the Wally
or the app or if the luminaire and Wally are switched on together via

The focus is on the intuitive operability of DALI lighting installations via the DARA mobile lighting app and the DARA devic-

As an alternative to NeoLink, there is the option of integrating Human Centric Lighting solutions from KITEO via DALI DT8.
Modern biorhythmic light can thus also be integrated quickly and easily even into more complex building management sys-
tems. With DALI DT8, all the functions of a lighting system, such as changes in brightness, colour temperatures and additional
colour sequences as well as daylight progressions, can be controlled and monitored generally or very specifically. The user

The functions of the Dara Lighting app are based
on PI-LED technology and support its special
and unique possibilities. In addition, Dara can be
combined with any DALI & DALI-2 luminaires (DT6
and DT8) and sensors, thus ensuring compatibility
between different DALI luminaires.
Together with PI-LED, DARA is the only lighting and
control system with fully implemented and intuitive
HCL features. The Dara Lighting app includes
various daylight curves and takes into account
circumstances such as type of application, season/
date, geographical location and luminaires with
direct and indirect light components.
Accessories such as DALI sensors and kinetic switches
can be easily integrated into a Dara installation and
programmed using the Dara Lighting app.

In addition to rods and cones, which are responsible for vision, there are other so-called “non-visual photoreceptors” in the human eye that noticeably influence the circadian rhythm. These receptors control our hormone balance, especially melatonin, which is responsible for waking and sleeping behaviour. This is exactly where PI-LED comes in – with the aim of positively supporting the human circadian rhythm and keeping melatonin production in natural balance. Here:
Cold light with a high blue content serves to stimulate and promote the release of serotonin and cortisol, while suppressing the release of melatonin. Performance and attention are thus significantly increased.
Warm light with a high red content does not
suppress the release of melatonin – it leads to
relaxation and a restful sleep after a phase of
stimulation.
Such a light supports the natural hormonal
processes in the body at any time of day and
adapts individually to personal preferences and
age, for example.
KITEO indicates the melanopic effect factor over
the entire CCT range for all PI-LED products. This
factor is a light type-specific conversion factor
for melanopic daylight equivalent luminance,
alpha(smel) for short.
The factor alpha(smel) describes the melanopic
effectiveness of the light source on humans and
their circadian rhythms. Melatonin release can be
minimised during the day by higher alpha(smel)
values and stimulated in the evening by lower
values, in order to support the natural human
biorhythm in the best possible way.
Lighting that is not only visually but also
melanopically effective is made possible by
PI-LED. KITEO recommends following DIN SPEC
5031-100 as a basis for standardised lighting
design.
Besides the visual and emotional characteristics of PI-LED HCL lighting, it is
above all its biological effect which - following the example of natural daylight -
