This year marks an important anniversary for Gammon – 60 years of

collective innovation and efforts that have seen us grow with the city of

Hong Kong and become a leading construction company.

The past 60 years have seen Hong Kong and Gammon develop

together as one, and we are proud to have played a leading role in so

many landmark projects that play an important part in making Hong Kong

the international city it is today.

Key to that growth and our success has been our embrace of

innovative solutions as well as safety and sustainability to achieve the most

cost-efficient and effective outcomes.

Innovative technology will play a crucial role in shaping Gammon’s

business outlook . We endeavour to realise the concept of Integrated

Digital Project Delivery (IDPD). Cutting-edge technology such as robotics,

Building Information Modelling (BIM), 3D printing, virtual reality and

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) can all serve to increase

productivity, ease heavy work and make workplaces safer under IDPD’s

umbrella.

Fatalities still occur in construction sites and accidents continue to

occur. Our goal will always continue to be Zero Harm, but we still have not

achieved it. For this reason, we need to develop new safety methodologies

such as promoting offsite work using modular construction that can be

moved to sites after completion in line with Gammon’s 2025 goal and

vision of a 25 per cent reduction of onsite activity.

Meanwhile, Gammon’s Sustainability Roadmap 2020, launched in

2012, promotes industry-wide environmental sustainability in keeping

with our commitment to “Use wisely, waste less and emit less” and to our

“Zero Waste Plan”. Our next step is to look to the future and formulate our

sustainability strategy for 2025 and beyond.

金門慶祝成立60週年，標誌著我們與香港一起成長，憑藉創新和不斷努力，成

為業內首屈一指的建築公司。

在這60年間，金門和香港的發展互相緊扣。我們非常榮幸，能參與興建多

項具地標意義的建築項目，見證香港成為現代化的國際大

都會。

金門的成功，關鍵在於致力創新、注重安全和可

持續發展，取得最佳的工程效率和成本效益。創新

技術對金門未來的業務發展非常重要，我們會朝著

「綜合數碼建造方案」這嶄新概念建造項目，在這大

前提下採用先進技術如機械臂、建築信息模擬、三

It started 60 years ago with a group of engineers who came to Hong Kong to work on the Kai Tak Runway Extension. Today, Gammon is proud to have developed into a leading construction company with 7,000 employees and an annual turnover of US$2.5 billion.

We proudly witnessed Gammon’s commitment to talent development when our team received four Gold Awards on stage for our training footprint in various arenas from the Construction Industry Council (CIC). We salute our trainers and colleagues for their relentless pursuit of this long-distance run!

In the face of the ever-changing business environment, upskilling has become the top priority for organisations striving to sustain their competitive edge. Gammon deeply values apprenticeship and continuous career and professional development for our people. Recently, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vocational Training Council to forge a collaboration in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education of future talent.

Hong Kong is lacking 5,000 to 10,000 skilled workers to sustain its infrastructure and community development. Gammon has been working hand in hand with the CIC through the years to tackle this challenge. The result is 710 new bloods in 17 different trades trained up within a window of five years.

It is now very clear that Integrated Digital Project Delivery (IDPD) and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) will provide ultimate solutions to address challenges of productivity, project performance and labour-intense work. That said, we still need highly skilled people to execute these solutions.

金門非常榮幸獲建造業議會頒贈四項金獎，嘉許我們在不同範疇積極培育

人才。同時，我們衷心感謝各位導師和同事，在人才培訓這長跑路上，努力不

懈，循循善誘地教導學員！

面對瞬息萬變的市場環境，企業必須不斷提升技術水平以維持競爭優勢。

金門非常重視學徒訓練，以及員工的事業和專業發

展。我們最近與職業訓練局簽訂了合作備忘錄，在

科學、科技、工程和數學四個範疇，攜手努力作

育英才。

香港現需要額外五千至一萬個技術工人，以

應付未來基建及社會設施的發展。面對挑戰，金

門多年來與建造業議會緊密合作，在這五年間，已

於17個工種中培訓了710位建造業生力軍。

在這數碼世代，「綜合數碼建造方案」和「簡

化製造及裝配過程的設計」能提供有效的建

造方案，以提升生產力及工程項目表現、

同時解決勞工密集工序帶來的挑戰。然

而，我們仍需要技術成熟的工人實踐工

程方案。

培育人才絕非易

The Gammon Cocktail Reception on 19 October 2017 at Exchange Square welcomed 500 guests to a glamorous evening, celebrating another fruitful year for Gammon of excelling in various technology-related activities, thanks to the unwavering support of its business partners and industry players.

The signature event was attended by Michael Wong, Secretary for Development, Dr WK Lo, Legislative Council Member. Chief Executive Thomas Ho took to the stage in power-assisted gear to highlight Gammon’s focus on technological change for a better future.

“The theme tonight – ‘A Reality by 2030’ – envisions the direction that we will be taking as we ride technology into a new era of construction,” said Thomas.

On this special occasion, the Gammon Way Awards was also in the limelight, recognising staff who best demonstrate

Gammon’s core values. The Grand Award winners went to the Lyric Theatre foundation team and the team innovating the software robot with AZ Gambot.

Gammon is delighted to contribute to the development of the city’s infrastructure and facilities, with the winning of two public works contracts totalling HK$7.7 billion. They include a HK$6.2 billion contract by the Highways Department for the Kai Tak West Section of the Central Kowloon Route, and a HK$1.5 billion contract by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) to deliver the extended basement and public infrastructure works for the L1 Contract for Lyric Theatre Complex and Extended Basement at WKCD.

The Kai Tak West Section contract forms a vital part of the overall Central Kowloon Route, a 4.7km-long dual three-lane strategic trunk road in Central Kowloon that will relieve congestion in Central Kowloon’s road network. In delivering the project Gammon will be maximising the use of modularisation for elements of the works, while its patented piling technology will be used to construct the temporary wall for excavation works. Work is expected to be completed by 2025.

For the Lyric Theatre contract which forms part of the West Kowloon Cultural

District development, it is the third contract that Gammon has won with WKCDA, Gammon will employ innovations that improve safety and productivity in delivery of the works, including modular components, digital building information model, scanning and 3D printing. Work is expected to be completed by mid-2020.

啟德西工程合約，及西九文化區管理局批出價值

啟德西工程路段是中九龍幹線的策略性重要

組成部分，該幹線全長4.7公里，雙程三線行車，

完成後將有助紓緩中九龍道路網的擠塞情況。金

門團隊會以最佳的方案完成工程，包括高度運用

模組技術，進行挖掘工程時用專利打樁技術為挖

掘工程建造臨時牆，預計工程於2025年完成。

演藝綜合劇場屬西九龍文化區發展項目的重要

部分，亦是金門第三度贏得西九文化區管理局的合

約。金門會以創新科技，包括採用預制組件、數碼

建築信息模擬、三維掃描和打印技術等，提高工程

的安全和生產力，預計在2020年中完成項目。1

Gammon’s annual celebration of creative thinking, the Innovation Competition, was successfully held on 23 November 2017 at The Excelsior, Causeway Bay, and 100 entries were received.

Five entries were shortlisted for judging Grand Award, presenting the judging panel with the challenge of weighing the various merits of this year’s excellent ideas. The winner was the innovative Clutch Pipe Pile, which like the runners up and category winners were all recommended for bringing safety, productivity and quality to the next level.

As a gesture of thanks to the judges and in support of the local construction society, Gammon donated HK$15,000 to The Lighthouse Club Hong Kong Benevolent Fund.

What is a Clutch Pipe Pile?什麼是連續式互扣式管樁？

The Clutch Pipe Pile comprises two major parts – the pipe pile casing, which acts as a main body to provide a structural frame for the lateral support system, and a tailor-made clutch welded on two sides of the pipe pile casing to provide an effective water cutoff. This innovation has been granted the Hong Kong Short Term Patent and China Patent of Clutch Pipe Pile construction.

連續式互扣式管樁由兩部分組成。首先是管樁的外

殻，它為側向支撐系統提供主要支架結構；另一部

分是度身訂造、焊接至外殻兩側的離合器，它能有

效阻截地下水滲入樁管。連續式互扣式管樁已成功

申請香港短期專利及中國專利。

Global Switch Singapore hosts BCA visit歡迎新加坡建設局到訪

On 5 April 2018, the Global Switch Woodlands Singapore (GSSW) project team hosted a delegation from the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) led by BCA Deputy CEO Neo Choon Keong.

The delegation also included

representatives from Ministry of Health Holdings, Changi Airport Group and JTC, whose field trip was conducted to inspect the GSSW use of MEP modular and integrated DfMA solutions – a first of its kind in terms of large-scale implementation in Singapore.

The delegation expressed their appreciation to the client and the Gammon team for hosting the visit, describing it as “a real eye opener”, adding that they felt certain that GSSW would “boost industry confidence in adopting prefabricated MEP systems for higher productivity and quality.

On 16 March 2018, Gammon and Lambeth Associates Ltd (‘Lambeth’), a subsidiary of Gammon, have collectively won five awards at the Lighthouse Club Health & Safety Awards, and earned acclaimed recognition from the industry.

Digital transformation is the way of the future for the construction industry, and the binding force among different stakeholders is the key to get the benefits from it. The Digital Construction Conference was organised to fulfil this purpose.

The Conference, on 28 November 2017, had the theme “Present to Future”. It highlighted exciting new ideas in the area of digital construction and featured a diverse blend of 13 speakers, consisting of overseas and local industry veterans as well as young talents, to exchange thoughts and views. The topics covered sensors, robotics, Building Information Modelling (BIM), cloud computing, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and AI.

Albert Wong, CEO of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporate and keynote speaker, encouraged the industry to seize vigorously opportunities to take the industry to a new era that would contribute to the technology innovation ecosystem of Hong Kong.

數碼轉型是建造業的未來發展路向，與業界

持分者緊密攜手，更是推動建造業長足發展

的關鍵，為此金門特意在2017年11月28日舉

行「數碼建築會議」，藉以與業界交流意見，

互為裨益。

會議以《邁向新世代》為題，探討數碼建

築中的嶄新意念。金門邀得13位不同範疇的

講者，包括香港及海外的業界專才和年青才

俊，就廣泛的議題分享心得，範圍涵蓋感應

器、機械設備、建築信息模擬、雲端運算、

簡化製造及裝配過程的設計、人工智能等。

會作專題演說。他勉勵業界要積極抓緊機

遇，推動建造業邁進新里程，為香港的創新

Talent development recognised積極培育人才獲讚許Our endeavours in training and nurturing young practitioners for the industry was recognised at the Employers Luncheon and Appreciation Ceremony organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) on 20 April 2018 at the Zero Carbon Building. Executive Director Edmond Lai collected four Gold Awards on Gammon’s behalf. Two of our colleagues received the “Most Outstanding Trainers in Cooperative Training Scheme”Award.

Edmond exchanged views on talent development in the discussion session. “We are purpose driven to provide training opportunities for people to unleash their talents, so as a whole, we can bring the industry’s professionalism to new heights,” he said.

Conroy Tsang, now construction supervisor, was invited to share his experience of being a Gammon intern, and expressed his gratitude to his supervisors, who are so supportive and caring for youngsters. He said “I feel like I’m more privileged than my peers in being given opportunities to learn to use advanced technologies and gain construction expertise.”

The ceremony was held in recognition of employers who, in 2017, participated actively in CIC training and development programmes, helping to promote an outstanding training culture in the industry.

金門積極培育人才獲業界的肯定。建造業議會在2018年4月20日假零碳天地舉

行「僱主午餐會暨嘉許典禮」，執行董事黎永覺在典禮上代表金門接受四項金

獎，另兩位地盤總管獲贈「合作培訓計劃最優秀導師獎」。

黎永覺在研討環節分享他對學徒培訓的經驗和心得時說：「金門重視人才，

積極為年青人提供學習機會，讓他們發展所長，同時協助提升整體建造業的專

業水平。」

曾文強由學徒升至工程主管，獲邀分享他作為金門實習學員時的體驗。他

表示衷心感受到導師的循循善誘、對所有學員的關懷和支持，並說：「我感到我

比其他同學更加幸運，有機會在金門學習先進科技和專業的建築技術。」

Run for 60 • Run for Charity60誌慶慈善跑2018 marks the 60th birthday of Gammon, Gammon kicked off the celebrations with a good cause – “Run for 60 • Run for Charity” on 28 January. The Event was organised to raise funds for Construction Charity Fund, which provides support to families of the unfortunate members of our industry.

More than 100 Gammon staff, family members and business partners joined the event with loving and caring hearts, running the Gammon Construction China Coast Full/Half Marathon or 10km races to raise over HK$1.6 million!

On the same day in the Community Chest Run, Horace Chu (bottom left), Director of Gammon, won the Championship as the fastest Chief Executive.

On 18 May 2018, Hong Kong’s iconic noonday gun boomed over the harbour, celebrating Gammon’s 60th anniversary in Hong Kong. The memorable moment was presided over by Paul Chan, GBM, GBS, MH, JP, the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Thomas Ho, Chief Executive of Gammon.

“Firing the noon day gun into the Victoria Harbour is my kind of opening ceremony… The Chinese Jia zi 甲子, the 60-year cycle, symbolises a full life span. That it also symbolises a new beginning, for Gammon, for Hong Kong, and in fact for all of us.” said Paul Chan.

Thomas offered thanks to all of Gammon’s business partners and friends, to the vision and generosity of Gammon’s founder John Gammon, to the support of shareholders Jardines and Balfour Beatty

and to the loyalty and hard work of all Gammon staff.

Thomas also presented a cheque for HK$1.6 million to Chow Luen Kiu, the Chairman of Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union. The money was raised by the Construction Charity Fund with the support of 46 supplier and subcontractor partners that participated in the Gammon-organised “Run for 60, Run for Charity” event, which was held earlier in the year.

The business environment will be no less demanding than that of our first 60 years. Situations change, challenges remain!

Idea: 3D modelling with an aerial camera

Description: Compiling the topographic graphs required by surveyors of construction sites is time-consuming and some areas may even be inaccessible, leading to inaccurate drawings. With the adoption of an aerial camera, we can reinvent the practices. After taking the aerial photos, we use photo-processing software to generate a 3D model of the real situation in excellent detail.

Benefits: Save surveyors having to spend time patrolling sites, thus eliminating risks of climbing and working at height. More accurate topographical readings of construction sites are also generated.

創新意念：航拍機照片製成三維模型

特點：測量師需耗用大量時間繪畫地盤的地形圖，甚至無法到達某些

範圍，以至影響繪圖的準確性。採用航拍相機後改變了整個運作模

式，測量師可以利用照片處理軟件，把空中拍得的相片製成仔細的三

維模型。

效益：節省測量師巡察地盤的時間，減少攀爬和高空工作的風險，並

Idea: Custom-made Zero-G Arm

Description: As the workforce continues to age, workers bear the burden of extensive drilling work, so in 2016 Gammon imported the ZeroG Arm, which requires mounting on a scissor platform. The Gammon Zero-G Arm features an innovative enhancement that allows the weight of the arm to be supported by hydraulics.

Benefits: The low-cost enhanced features not only improve productivity but allow workers to drill more safely.

特點：面對工人老化，工人又需進行大量鑽鑿工作，金門在2016年

引進零重力機械臂，只要把它固定在剪式升降台上便能施工。同時，

為了令鑽鑿工作變得更加輕鬆，郭偉雄以先進的液壓裝置支撐整個機

械臂的重量。

效益：新增的先進功能成本低廉，不但能提升生產力，而且令鑽鑿工

作更加安全。

Idea: Plant Coordinator

Description: Traditionally, it has been difficult to register plants because they are always moving from place to place. The automatic Plant Coordinator solves that problem through using Gambot (a software robot with AI) to input all relevant information for any plant and then to provide auto-reminds – such as for plant inspections – through Gambot via the GPS beacon.

Benefits: The Plant Coordinator automates a formerly complex and time-consuming process, and also makes it easier for plant inspectors to find plants.

特點：工程團隊經常移動地盤的機械設備，追蹤它們的紀錄有一定的

動作出適當提示，例如檢查設備。

Idea: Measuring concrete workability by 3D scanning

Description: The top three workability tests for fresh concrete – slump, slump-flow and flow-table testing – are massively repetitive work for technicians, who have to perform the testing and write down results manually. The Structure Sensor® is a 3D sensor that makes all three tests possible using an iPad only.

Benefits: Improves testing accuracy and traceability, promotes technicians’ work efficiency and alleviates the work burden on workers.

Gammon is proud to be the first company in Asia to be compliant with the ISO 20400 standards for sustainable procurement.

The assessment was conducted by third-party evaluators Action Sustainability, who played a leadership role in developing the standard for Australia, the UK and worldwide. ISO 20400 was developed by around 50 nations, in liaison with international organisations such as the United Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development through a four-year consultation process.

“With this new standard, you have access to a robust framework that covers

all areas of procurement and supply chain management, from strategic to operational,” says Action Sustainability’s Director Jean-Louis Haie.

Gammon recognised with CarbonCare® Label 榮獲低碳關懷標籤

Gammon Construction, along with 37 other major corporations, was awarded the CarbonCare® Label 2017 on 1 December 2017 at the Happy Valley Race Course.

The award is jointly organised by Carbon Care Asia and CarbonCare InnoLab, and this year’s theme was “From ESG to SDG: Sustainability in Action”, which explored how corporate actions can align with the United Nations global sustainable development goals (SDGs).

In 2017, Gammon made even greater strides in reducing its carbon footprint and was awarded the level 3 CarbonCare® label. Compared to the company’s baseline, a 41.3% reduction of carbon intensity has been achieved (excluding Joint Venture and Singapore Projects).

Annual Stand Down highlights worker safety反思會提升安全意識

Gammon’s 12th Stand Down, an important annual safety event, took place on 21 November 2017.

The latest Stand Down focused on the fact that safety, and in particular safety at heights, continues to be of crucial concern for the construction sector, which saw 31 fatalities in the preceding year.

Over the course of a play-and-stop video

presentation, Gammon employees discussed recorded accidents and what might have been done to prevent them.

The Stand Down discussions came up with concrete ways to avoid such accidents in future.

「安全反思會」是金門一年一度的重要活動，第12

屆會議已在2017年11月21日成功舉行。

這次會議特別聚焦於高空工作的安全，這亦

是業界一直關注的重要事項，在前一個年度曾發

生31宗有關的致命事故。

會議中播放了多段視頻簡介，參與的同事就

多個意外事故進行討論，並提出應及早採取的預

防措施。

與會者在「安全反思會」中總結了多項實質方

案，以防止類似的意外再度發生。1

Fair TradeThe Fair Trade event, held on 8 November, with its market and products such as snacks, bakery goods, handicrafts, green tea, spices, and skincare and coconut products, was a huge success. Everybody loved learning more about improving equity in international trade and securing better trading conditions for marginalised workers through shopping and interacting with Fair Trade traders.

Held at Devon House, Quarry Bay, together with long-term Gammon partner charities, Hong Chi Association and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, the event was an opportunity to promote and sell the social enterprises handicraft and bakery products, arousing colleagues’ care and raising funds to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Innovation LabThis Innovation Lab was held at the Jao Tsung – I Academy, a wonderful heritage restoration project near Mei Foo – the perfect spot to find inspiration, which is precisely what 12 bright young minds from across the business did, working together to develop solutions to two worker welfare-related challenges.

The first was a self-contained “pop-up” workers rest area with everything “built-in” that could be easily assembled but was robust enough to withstand more than a light rain shower. The second was a shelter for cut-and-bend areas to reduce the risk of heat stroke and improve working conditions. The results were a huge success in terms of innovation of new products and the young innovators enjoyed the event to the fullest.

Sustainability Strategy WorkshopOne of the highlights of Sustainability Month was bringing together over 40 staff from across the

November 2017 was Gammon Sustainability Month, which is an opportunity to demonstrate our leadership in sustainable construction and reaffirm our commitment to a better quality of life and living environment in a safe and sustainable manner.

business for a full-day workshop to consider how to build our strategy for sustainability (top right). A cross-section of staff from both project operations and support teams were invited, including both present, emerging and future leaders in the business, as well as the Next Generation Panel on Sustainability.

Creative juices flowed and there were some great outcomes from the workshop that will be used in the development of the new strategy for sustainability in the coming months.

公平貿易

在11月8日舉行的「公平貿易市場」圓滿成功。當日銷售的產品

大受歡迎，有零食、烘焙食品、手工藝品、綠茶、香料、護膚

用品和椰子產品等。同事透過這次購物活動及與公平貿易商交

流，認識更多如何改善國際間的公平貿易，為被邊緣化的工人

爭取更佳的貿易條件。

「公平貿易市場」在�魚涌德宏大廈舉行，金門與長期合

作的慈善機構匡智會和東華三院再度攜手，推廣和銷售社會企

業的手工藝品和烘焙食品，喚起同事關懷弱勢社群，並為他們

籌募善款。

創新實驗室

饒宗頤文化館是鄰近美孚的一個文化保育項目，亦是舉行「創

新實驗室」，捕捉創意靈感的理想場地。當日12位來自不同業

務範疇的年青才俊聚首一堂，為兩項與工人福祉有關的挑戰項

目研究解決方案。

第一項是一個能自給自足的「快閃」休息站。站內預設所

需的設施，能快速組裝，足以在陰晴不定的天氣下提供休息屏

障。第二項是一個遮蓋鋼筋剪切和彎曲區的帳篷，用以減低工

人中暑的風險和改善工作環境。活動空前成功，不但順利創造

新產品，各位創新先鋒亦樂在其中。

可持續發展策略工作坊

「可持續發展月」的另一個重點項目，是組織40多位來自不同

業務範疇的同事出席一整天的工作坊，商討如何訂定未來的可

持續發展策略（右上）。出席的同事均是現任項目運作和支援部

門的領導，潛質優秀的才俊和未來的業務接班人，包括「新世

代可持續發展小組」成員。

工作坊中創意洋溢，取得多項具建設性的成果，將在未來

數月用以訂定全新的可持續發展策略。1

Construction Safety Conference looks to the future安全會議放眼未來This year’s well-received Construction Safety Conference was successfully held on 1 February with around 900 guests in attendance.

The Conference embraced the theme of “Technology Adoption and Design for Safety”.

Albert Wong, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation Chief Executive Officer, encouraged coordinated efforts among all industry players in order to propel the industry forward. Professor Goh from the University of Singapore talked next, sharing Singapore’s experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly, while Barry Davies from Britain’s Environmental Resources Management (ERM) talked on the subject of Human Factors, giving inspiration to human behaviours. Speakers from Gammon also shared an in-depth perspective on a range of topics to showcase how innovation and design creates positive impacted on safety.

In recognition of our colleagues, subcontractors and frontline workers’ efforts in exercising safety, the Zero Harm Awards Presentation was incor-porated into the conference. Congratulations to the Singapore Mayflower Station project and Gammon’s Dongguan Pristine Metal Works, which took this year’s honours in the Zero Harm Project - Grand Award.

Gammon at 60: Looking back, looking ahead回首豐盛60載昂然邁進新世代

Sixty years ago, a group of engineers who had come to Hong Kong to work on the Kai Tak runway extension established a local presence. Since then, Gammon has

grown together with the people of Hong Kong, providing the infrastructure and facilities that have enabled the city to prosper. During the shared journey, the city has transformed from the unrest of the 1960s into the renowned international hub it is today, and we are proud to have developed into a leading construction company with 8,000 employees and an annual turnover of US$2.5 billion.

What we’ve achievedGammon’s accomplishments have been notable in several areas, but especially in relation to the use of innovative technology, sustainable construction and worker health and safety.

Advances in technology From the beginning, Gammon has pioneered the use of technology in its projects to achieve more efficient and cost-effective outcomes. These include cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, Building Iinformation Modelling (BIM), Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), 3D printing, virtual reality, sensors and RFID tags and many others.

One of the greatest game-changers, has been BIM. This technology has revolutionised the construction industry by making projects more buildable and reducing wastage.

Gammon has been promoting BIM by hosting conferences held in 2015 and 2017. During these events, advocates of BIM from Gammon, government and the client side came from Hong Kong, the US, Singapore and other countries to share their insights on the power of BIM for wider adoption of the technology.

When it comes to robotics, Gammon has introduced the first curtain-wall installation

robot in Hong Kong in order to encourage automation. We also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ATOUN Inc., a subsidiary of Panasonic, and Shun Hing Systems Integration Company Limited on the use and development of new exoskeleton technology to further improve construction safety, efficiency and productivity. In Singapore, we used a Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine – or RTBM – for the first time in the city to construct Havelock Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line. This technology was chosen to avoid disrupting the busy neighbourhood overhead. It also meant that about 30 per cent fewer man hours were required to build the station than the traditional cut-and-cover method.

Worker safety and healthWorker safety and health are particularly important to Gammon, which introduced the Zero Harm programme in 2009. Gammon later introduced its Zero Harm Bold Commitments, which pledged to embed Zero Harm into every aspect of the Company’s work and supply chain, while extending it to the industry at large.

A major feature of Gammon’s approach to safety is its company-wide safety event – Stand Down – which is held every year to gather around 15,000 of our people and frontline workers, subcontractors, union representatives and clients and business partners to cultivate a positive safety culture – Prove it Safe.

To protect the health of workers, in August 2011 Gammon pioneered the deployment of nurses on-site. The programme has nurses making regular visits to the Company’s Hong Kong project sites to provide free health checks.

Environmental initiativesWe uphold sustainable construction, with the approach – use wisely, waste less and emit less. This is another area where Gammon has excelled.

According to the Company’s Sustainability Roadmap 2020, launched in 2012, Gammon strives to manage all projects using methods and materials that minimise impact on the environment. To promote sustainability across the industry, Gammon has held two industry-wide sustainability conferences.

Sustainable procurement has played a major role in this quest to build more environmentally-friendly projects. Gammon is the first and only construction company in Hong Kong to use B5 biodiesel in 100% of our owned plant and equipment on our solo project sites, the first to introduce recyclable

HDPE (high-density polyethylene) barriers, and we use over 95 per cent FSC/PEFC certified sustainable timber and plywood for formwork. In addition to buying greener construction materials, Gammon has been creating new markets for sustainably-sourced materials that benefit suppliers selling not only to Gammon but to the industry as a whole.

The programme – Green & Caring Site Commitment – is designed to promote good sustainability practices, commending sites that have reduced environmental impacts, innovated for better performance and demonstrated a concern for worker welfare. As a result of this programme, Gammon has fostered a stronger culture of safety, corporate social responsibility and greening the environment.

Developing our peopleSince 2012, we have been addressing the labour shortage in construction by making a career in the industry more viable and attractive. One of the key approaches in this effort is to provide young people with marketable skills through on-the-job training programmes, such as the Construction Industry

Council (CIC) Contractor Training Scheme and Advanced Construction Manpower Training Scheme.

Also offered is the Contractor Cooperative Training Scheme (CCTS) organised by CIC. From 2011 to 2017, Gammon has trained 756 workers in 17 trades under the scheme. In 2017, we added a new master apprenticeship scheme in coordination with the Vocational Training Council that provides training in plastering, brick-laying and tiling, as well as façade design.

As a result of these training programmes and our efforts to humanise the construction workplace, we were recognised as one of the most attractive employers in Hong Kong by Universum, a global leader in employer attractiveness research. For our work under the CCTS, we received the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management’s Grand Award of the Year and Excellent Business Partner

Award. Gammon was awarded four Gold awards at the Employers Luncheon and Appreciation Ceremony 2018 organised by CIC.

Where we are headedIn recent years, a number of important themes have emerged that will shape the direction Gammon will take in years to come. Foremost among these is innovation, which is critical for delivering value to clients and thriving in an increasingly competitive construction market.

Going digital, breaking boundaries Gammon has earned a well-deserved reputation for innovation through the adoption of technologies such as BIM. But BIM is only part of the story. To fully capitalise on the efficiencies made possible by these technologies, Gammon needs to bring them together under a single digital umbrella.

This is happening through Gammon’s innovation strategy, covering DfMA and Integrated Digital Project Delivery (IDPD), with BIM as the chief driver.

In the construction industry, DfMA integrates construction plans through BIM, allowing production and prefabrication to be undertaken off-site and streamlining installation processes on-site, thus enhancing safety and efficiency. Off-site prefabrication of construction components, such as the steel beams and trusses can be manufactured at Gammon’s Pristine Metal Works facility.

IDPD, on the other hand, is the approach taken for managing construction projects by integrating all processes and supply chain in the construction lifecycle. The key to this approach is advanced information communications and smart technologies,

60年前，一群充滿熱誠的工程師

初次踏足香港，為啟德機場跑

道進行擴建工程，繼而在這城

市扎根。自此，金門為香港建

造基建項目和設施，與這城市

及香港人一起成長。1960年代的香港仍有待發展，至今

已是享譽全球的國際樞紐，金門亦已打穩根基，成為一

家首屈一指、擁有8,000員工、每年營業額達25億美元的

建築公司。回顧這段發展旅程，金門引以為榮。

成就非凡60年的努力，奠定了金門的非凡成就，其中我們尤其注

重創新科技的應用、可持續發展、工人的健康和安全。

卓越技術金門率先引用先進科技建造項目，以提升效率和取得

更佳的成本效益，包括採用機械臂、建築信息模擬

（BIM）、簡化製造及裝配過程的設計（DfMA）、三維立

體打印、虛擬實境、傳感器及無線射頻辨識標籤等等。

BIM是一項革命性的建造技術，它改變了整個建造

業，增強項目的建築效益，同時減少消耗。

金門一直積極推廣BIM的效益，在2015年及2017

年已分別舉辦兩個BIM大型會議，邀請香港、美國、新

加坡等地倡導BIM 技術的專家，與金門、政府、客戶

代表等聚首一堂，分享對BIM技術的真知灼見，期望更

廣泛利用這項建築科技。

應用機械臂方面，金門率先在香港採用機械臂安裝

幕牆，推動自動化。我們已經與Panasonic的附屬公司

ATOUN Inc.及信興系統工程有限公司，就使用和發展

連身機械裝甲衣科技簽署諒解備忘錄，藉以提升工程

的安全、效率及生產力。在新加坡，我們首次採用矩

形隧道鑽挖機建造湯申–東海岸�的合樂地鐵站，代

替明挖回填的建造方法，這不但避免影響地面繁忙的

社區，同時節省工時約30% 。

工人安全及健康工人的安全和健康對金門重中之重。金門在2009年推

underpinned by BIM. The concept is being realised by all Gammon’s divisions to strength innovation development and enhance productivity.

Working in parallel with the business units, Gammon has established a new entity, Digital G, for exploiting the commercial potential of the innovations produced in-house as well as the new wave of digital and smart construction technologies around the world. This will not only serve Gammon’s own projects but also those outside Gammon in Hong Kong and other parts of Southeast Asia.

Another example is the façade division, Entasis Limited. Its team of professionals have used DfMA by removing tedious manual operations through digitalisation, automation and AI technology. Together with its library of curtain-wall systems, Entasis can save clients around 20-30 per cent of the time needed for a typical design cycle.

On the other hand, Into G, which was established by Gammon, is the first of a new breed of interior fit-out specialists in Asia, specialising in high-quality fit-out solutions for hospitality, residential, retail and office projects.

力以最環保的方法和物料建造項目，並已舉行兩次「可

持續發展會議」，推動整個建造業界邁向可持續發展。

要建造環保項目，可持續發展的採購方針非常重

要。金門成為香港首家在其業務運作中應用B5生化柴

油的承建商，採用可循環再造的高密度聚乙烯製造屏障

及超過95%森林管理委員會/森林驗證認可計劃（FSC/

PEFC）認證的可持續發展木材和三夾板。除了選購更環

保的建材，金門更為可持續發展的原材料創造新市場，

讓供應商受惠，他們不但可售予金門，更可供應整個建

造業界。

「環保與關愛承諾」是為推廣優良的可持續發展措施而

設的計劃，嘉許有效減少對環境的影響、以創意提升工程

表現，以及關懷工友福祉的工程項目。這計劃成功強化金

門的安全文化、推動企業社會責任和綠化環境。

培育人才我們正視建造業勞工短缺的情況，自2012年起採取措

施，致力令建造行業更富生氣和更具吸引力，包括透過

在職培訓計劃，如建造業議會的「建造技工合作培訓計

劃」及「進階工藝培訓計劃」，為年青人提供具市場價值

的技能訓練。

我們又參與建造業議會舉辦的「承建商合作培訓計

劃」，在2011至 2017年間，已透過這計劃培育17 個工

種共756名工人。在2017年，我們與職業訓練局合作舉

辦全新的學徒訓練計劃，提供批盪、砌磚和砌瓦，以至

幕牆設計的培訓。

我們致力培育人才，以及為建造業工友創造更佳的

工作環境，獲全球僱主吸引力調查機構Universum嘉許

為香港最具吸引力的僱主之一。在今年的「僱主午餐會

暨嘉許典禮」，更榮獲四項金獎。

邁步向前金門已訂定一系列規劃未來發展方向的題案，引領業務

繼續邁步向前，當中首重「創新」。因為市場競爭日趨劇

烈，創新能為客戶提供更具價值的建築項目，推動金門

的業務繼續欣欣向榮。

數碼管理突破疆界金門率先在業界引用BIM等先進建築科技，贏得創新的

美譽。但BIM只是眾多新技術之一，要從科技領域中取

得最佳效益，金門必須把這些新技術融匯貫通，以數碼

方式整合和管理。

我們主要以BIM掀頭，驅動「簡化製造及裝配過程的

設計」（DfMA）和「綜合數碼建造方案」（IDPD）。

在建造過程中，BIM可以配合DfMA整合施工計劃，

在工廠進行生產和預鑄，簡化在工地的安裝程序，從而

提升安全和效率，例如在金門的原創金屬結構廠預製鋼

樑和桁架等建築組件。

另一方面IDPD能整合建築生命週期中所有流程和持

分者，妥善管理整個建築項目。關鍵是以BIM為基礎，

輔以先進的資訊流通和智能科技。金門各業務正逐步實

我們已成立一家新公司Digital G，與其他業務單位

主理幕牆的大師有限公司（Entasis Limited）是另一

On 16 November 2017, Gammon beat off stiff competition to win the Grand Award and the Hong Kong Sustainability Award at the Award Presentation Ceremony of the inaugural Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2016/17.

Gammon Director, Tony Small expressed his delight in his acceptance speech, “I would like to thank all of my colleagues at Gammon as well as our many partners for this award as we would not be successful without their combined efforts in striving for a more sustainable business.” Gammon’s commitment is showcased by being the first construction company in Hong Kong to introduce the use of B5 biodiesel to our operations, introducing modular fabrication and creating platforms to promoting sustainability, such as the Sustainability Conference and Sustainability Month.

In being awarded a Grand Award, Gammon is proud to be recognised to have always followed the principles of good use of energy, reduced consumption and reduced emissions to promote sustainable development.

The annual Institution of Mechanical Engineers Hong Kong Branch Annual Dinner was held on 16 May 2018 to celebrate excellence. Gammon was honoured to be awarded Winner of the 4th Year Best Project Award for expertise of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) in Construction. The cutting-edge approach is exemplified by the Steelwork projects for West Kowloon Cultural District.

The award was a recognition of the efforts of Gammon’s Steel Fabrication Department, the team of which has long endeavoured to provide steelwork services from pre-construction and design to fabrication and installation in ever safer, more environmentally friendly, efficient and cost-effective ways. For example, at the M+ Museum project (right), DfMA was also adopted for fabrication of the truss, saving 50 per cent in terms of resources and in the time required to undertake the work.

Formwork Hoist System receives accolades 模板升降台系統獲優異獎

Gammon is pleased to have been honoured at the Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI) Ceremony on 18 December 2017, at which The Hon Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region officiated.

The HKAI received a total of 233 entries in 2017 and Gammon’s contribution was recognised with an Equipment and Machinery Design Certificate of Merit for the Formwork Hoist System.

The annual awards aim to recognise the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong enterprises in pursuit of high technology and high value-added activities, and to commend excellence in various aspects of their performance.

香港特別行政區行政長官林鄭月娥在2017年12月18日為「香港

工商業獎」主持頒獎典禮，金門欣喜在典禮中獲嘉許。

「2017香港工商業獎」共收到233項參賽項目，金門的模板

升降台系統獲贈「設備及機器設計優異證書」。

一年一度的「香港工商業獎」旨在表揚香港企業在邁向高

科技、高增值的過程中取得的成就，以及在不同範疇的傑出

表現。1

Formwork Hoist System模板升降台系統The formwork hoist adopts rack and pinion technology. With a self-climbing system, the need to use a tower crane to relocate the track from upper floors is eliminated. The formwork hoist boosts productivity, enhances safety and results in a 50 per cent reduction in costs.

這模板升降台系統採用齒輪及齒條驅動技術，備有自行爬升功能，毋須使用塔式起重機從上

層移動軌道。它有效提升生產力和安�，並大幅節省生產成本高達五成。

In December 2017, Gammon was invited by Singapore Environmental Council (SEC) to receive the Project Eco-Office Certification Award at a special appreciation lunch graced by Singapore’s Minister of Environment and Water Resources, Masagos Zulkifli.

The Project Eco-Office award is given based on environmentally friendly practices in office spaces, and Gammon has been following the Green Site Office Checklist for many years when building site offices. In fact, Gammon built the first temporary construction site office that was certified by the SEC in the 2012 Project Eco-Office Awards. Gammon has continued to certify its site offices through the scheme in the years since.

In a ceremony held on 4 May 2018 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gammon took away a slew of awards at the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE).

In particular, Gammon was honoured with a 10th Anniversary Special Award, which was awarded this year in recognition of companies and organisations that have provided continued support to the HKAEE over the past decade.

The awards ceremony was presided over by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region The Hon Mrs Carrie Lam, Secretary for the Environment Wong Kam-sing and Chairman of the Environmental Campaign Committee Lam Chiu-ying, among other honourable officiating guests and industry leaders and representatives.

The HKAEE and the Hong Kong Green Innovations Awards aim to encourage local companies, regardless of their size, to improve and implement green strategies and improve overall environmental standards in the construction industry. This year’s HKAEE saw a record high number of entries at 1,614, four times more than in 2008, when the awards were first launched.

Volunteer caring project brings joy to community樂於助人服務社群

The Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link project team has spared no efforts in upholding corporate social responsibility.

Typhoon Pakhar and Typhoon Hato struck Hong Kong in August 2017 just before the school term started, causing unprecedented damage to Tung Wan Mok Law Shui Wah School and the Island Hostel, Lantau. A threat to the safety of the students and teachers, some affected areas and facilities were immediately closed and some academic activities were affected as a result.

In consideration of the students’ needs, the project team proactively formed a volunteer team to assist with post-typhoon repair work for the school. The repair work for the campus and the hostel was finally completed in early November. The Hong Kong Student Aid Society recognised the project team’s volunteer community efforts with an Outstanding Award for corporate social responsibility.

On 9 December, along with members of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) and the Sha Tau Kok District Rural Committee, the Tuen Mun – Chek Lap Kok Link project team travelled to the villages of Sai Lau Kong and Kat O on an island in northeast Hong Kong. There they engaged in a caring programme that aims to improve the quality of life for seniors by carrying out renovation work on flats and the surrounding

environment. The team was rewarded by happy smiles on the elderly villagers’ faces.

In 28 March 2018, the closing ceremony of “Outreach Community Support Services for Rural Areas” Programme was officiated by Mr Yam Mun-ho, District Social Welfare Officer (Tai Po/North), Social Welfare Department. Over 200 elderly and guests attended the event to share the happiness. The Sha Tau Kok District Rural Committee expressed their appreciation for Gammon volunteers' contributions and support by presenting souvenirs and with a thank-you letter.

颱風帕卡和天鴿在2017年8月臨近開學之際接

連吹襲香港，大嶼山東灣莫羅瑞華學校和石壁宿舍

在颱風吹襲下嚴重受災，部分損毀的校舍和設施威

脅師生的安全，須即時關閉，因而影響教學活動。

為顧及學生的學習需要，項目團隊自發組成義

工隊協助學校修葺校園和宿舍。去年 11 月初，所

有復修工程經已完成。香港學生輔助會特意頒贈

「傑出企業社會責任獎」，以表揚項目團隊為社區作

出貢獻。

此外，項目團隊又參與關愛社群活動，在12月9

日聯同東華三院及沙頭角區鄉事委員會的成員探訪

位於香港東北的西流江和吉澳漁村，為當地長者修

葺房屋和附近環境，藉此改善他們的生活質素。村

民臉上的笑容，就是金門義工隊的最佳回報。

專員任滿河為「固鄉情鄉郊長者支援服務計劃」主持

閉幕典禮，超過200位長者及嘉賓出席。沙頭角區

鄉事委員會在典禮中致贈紀念品和謝函，感謝金門

Gammon shinesin 49-floor Walk Up

攀登怡廈健步如飛On Sunday, 18 March 2018, Gammon’s relay team

won 1st runner up in the Walk Up Jardine Housefundraising event, reaching the top of 49 floors

– 974 steps – at a speed of 4’04”.This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the eventand raised a total of HK$3.3 million for MINDSET,

a Jardine Group philanthropic initiative that promotes mental health in the community and aims to reduce

the stigma of suffering from mental-health issues.

金門健兒在2018年3月18日舉行的「齊步上怡廈」慈善競跑活動中

光芒四射，以4’04” 跑上974級樓梯，抵達怡和大廈49樓，

勇奪男女子混合接力賽亞軍。

怡和集團成立的慈善機構「思健」每年舉辦「齊步上怡廈」，今年

的活動踏入33週年，籌得善款330萬港元，用作宣揚精神健康的

訊息，並減少社會大眾對精神病患者的偏見。1

Myanmar youth equipped with computer literacy裝備緬甸年青人學習電腦知識“We felt like a lottery winner when we heard the news!” Studer Trust, a Myanmar organisation that aims to provide education facilities and other community development projects, said in excitement when Gammon donated 90 desktop computers for youth in Myanmar.

Studer Trust undertakes charitable work for students, while Gammon is committed to helping young people achieve their dreams, a shared vision that is fostering a collaboration that is equipping young people with computer literacy.

The large numbers of donated computers will be used at newly established computer centres under Studer Trust.

金門捐贈90台桌上電腦予緬甸慈善組織Studer Trust，他們表示：「我們

收到消息時，興奮的心情恍如中獎！」Studer Trust主要為當地提供教育設

施及進行社區發展項目。

Studer Trust為莘莘學子提供慈善服務，金門致力幫助年青人成就夢

想，兩家機構志同道合，合作為當地年青人提供電腦硬件，幫助他們學

習電腦知識。

今次捐贈的電腦大部分在Studer Trust新落成的電腦中心使用。1

Ceremony kicks off Guangzhou

Walkathon行路上廣州

The 8th Gammon Walkathon to Guangzhou kicked off on 1 December 2017 to raise funds for Hong Chi Association’s daily operation expenses, so as to help people with intellectual disability. Thanks to the support of colleagues, sub-contractors and suppliers, they successfull raised HK$285,270. A total of around HK$2 million has been raise since 2010.

Around 20 participants took part in the event, including Gammon colleagues,

Hong Chi tutors and students, who walked a three-day, two-night tour to Guangzhou.

第八屆「金門滿愛心行路上廣州」慈善步行在2017

年12月1日舉行，為匡智會籌募經費，並為智障

人士提供服務。感謝同事、分判商和供應商的支

持，籌得善款285,270港元。自2010年舉辦這步

行活動以來，累計籌得善款近200萬港元。

On 7 January, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) held its Happy Long Run at the Tai Po Training Ground. Together with all the other participants, 20 Gammon staff demonstrated their strong spirit by bracing the freezing rain and cold. All of Gammon’s enrolment fees were donated to the Construction Charity Fund to support those in the construction industry who are in need.

At the same occasion, the Construction Plant Operation Competition Awards Presentation was held. Gammon won the Champion Award in the Crawler Crane Category, Best Operator in the Individual Crawler Crane Category and 1st Runner Up in the Gantry Crane category at the Awards Presentation.

Gammon took great pleasure in sponsoring the Lap Dog Challenge 2017, organised by the Lighthouse Club on 4 November 2017. The event raised around HK$1.2 million for the Lighthouse Club Hong Kong Benevolent Fund.

Gammon athletes, including Executive Director CC Wai, contributed to the event’s total of 3,685 laps, or a total of 1,474 kilometres.

The Plantation Day event involved not only the project team staff, but also key stakeholders including Kowloon City District Council Member Mr Lai Kwong Wai, students and teachers from SKH Holy Carpenter Primary School and resident site staff.

“Plantation Day not only strives to uplift the quality of the nearby living environment, but also promotes the awareness of tree conservation to our young generation,” Alan Yan, Gammon’s Contracts

Manager said at the opening speech.To make Ma Tau Kok a greener

place, participants promised to contribute their time and effort for the growth of the saplings.

Project WeCan prepares students for the future協助學生規劃錦繡前途

Gammon is throwing its weight behind Project WeCan, a business-in-community initiative to assist students to seize learning opportunities and be better prepared for their future careers.

On 21 April 2018, Gammon assisted with the Career Exploration Day organised by Project WeCan. The event featured interactive “job tasters” for the students that were designed to be interesting and engage the students. Gilbert Tsang, Executive Director attended the opening ceremony, which was graced by Paul Chan, the Financial Secretary.

Project WeCan representatives described the event as an unqualified success, saying: “Feedback was very positive from students, principals, teachers and parents!”

A day of family fun 同樂享天倫

Striking a balance between work, fun, exercise and family life is critical for one’s well-being. The annual Gammon Family Fun Day is the perfect example of that spirit.

The event, held on 3 December 2017 at the Sheung Shui Community Sports and TWGHs Ms Tso Lung Campsite, saw 4,500 participants come together for a day of games, a soccer competition, virtual reality experiences, a lucky draw, wall climbing, a rope-class challenge, war games and a lot more.

With the theme of “One Flip Big Leap”, Gammon’s Chief Executive Thomas Ho explained “In today’s rapidly changing society, we need to keep abreast of the times, abandon our ingrained patterns of thinking, embrace change and find joy.”

With thanks for the engagement of a number of NGOs, the Fun Day has become a thrilling occasion for Gammon families.
