I hope you enjoy our campy cover.

Gracious was a kitten to work with, contrary

to our tigress photo copy. Also an unusualone to be sure, she is an original even tho ’

she can portray others.

So, when Tina Alameda, our art director,

told me that she was going to run the contact

sheets, as is, for the ^ ^Pageants Past''* photolayout, I thought she was nuts. But as yousee that 'Hhing'^ has an unerring sense ofwhat to do with a photo. They truly form apastiche of images and feelings that so well

express another period of time. She insists ondelving into our files for these relics. / hopethat you readers aren Y bored with this use ofolder material.

A new book, “Hollywood

Androgyny,” by Rebecca Bell-

Metereau (Columbia Univ.

Press). It’s a scholarly work that

covers virtually every cross-

dressing incident in the movies.

And it’s terrific fun to read. Amust for every TV or TS library

— if you can scrape up the

$24.95 cover price.

A report in Chicago papers

about a proposed movie about a

transsexual’s adventures. Its

title: “Lullaby in La-La Land.”

Don’t you love it? Can you give

us an update on it?

A movie they’re now showing

on cable, called “The Bachelor

Party.” There’s a cameo by

Chris Morley, who does a great

impersonation of a blonde

bombshell. And then reveals his

true sex in a truly hilarious way.

Dear Kim Christy,

I have enjoyed your magazine

for a number of years, and find

yours absolutely the best for a

TV/TS like myself.

I’ve always been a TV/TS since

my mother wanted a girl. By the

time I was 4 I had long curls downto my shoulders and wore lovely

pink dresses so I was hooked at an

early age. Father eventually put his

foot down so I was brought up as

a male, but I had lovely excursions

in secret into my mother’s clothes.

My aunt knew of my interests or

at least suspected. When I was 11 I

visited her for a week during which

she invited me to play in her huge

closet that was filled with beautiful

lingerie, dresses and shoes. As you

can imagine I was in heaven. She

asked me if I’d like to play “dress

up” for fun to which I could only

bluster that I didn’t really know

how or would be ashamed. She

said it could be our little secret and

she would help me. Later that

afternoon she returned from a

shopping trip with “some things

that would fit.” By the end of her

ministration I was decked out in a

pink party frock, black patent

“Mary Jane” shoes, panties, a

little bra and suspender belt, myfirst pair of nylons and a slip. As a

final touch, she made up my face

and combed out my longish hair

and put a pink ribbon in it.

Needless to say I relished being her

adoring niece for the rest of the

week since she was unmarried at

the time and no male to interfere.

After a number of years still

unsatisfied with my male existence,

I found an understanding doctor 7

years ago who started me on

hormone therapy since I had been

diagnosed as a Type IV

strong tendency and desire for

of a surgical recommendation. I

have become much happier and

better adjusted ever since. I lead a

male professional life, but becomea female as soon as I enter myhome. Premarin has done wonders

for my body and enjoyment.

Through diet and exercise I have

remained relatively slender but myhips and thighs are enlarged and I

can almost fill a size B cup. And,oh, the ends of my breasts feel so

wonderful through their material

wearing this morning! And I just

love to feel the tops of my swollen,

creamy thighs now covered with

Would you believe I workedvery hard to get this to you? I

least I’ve got my fingers crossed on

this one. I call it — “Fun in the

Sun.’’

I was layed off once again, not

because I was a bad worker or

anything, but due to cutbacks. I’d

conducted myself as a lady with

men for years and now had time to

be myself fulltime. Let my hair

grow, nails, removed all hair where

needed. (A good tip you may wish

to pass along is wax, “Zip Wax”works great.) It’s better than

electrolysis because it leaves no

scars and everytime you do it the

hair comes back finer. Flickers

work nice too, but I only shave

now if its an emergency. The hot

wax works absolutely super on

hands and you guessed it — that

sweet opening is much more

desirable to a man if prepared

properly. (Don’t get the wax too

hot and keep an ice cube handy.)

It hurts a little coming off but just

tighten up, you should be good at

that. When I was very young, guys

often said to me “You haven’t got

a hair on your ass, punk.” Mostnever knew how right they were.

I’m a firm beliver that cleanliness

is next to Godliness and the best

surprise is no surprise at all. I also

believe there is nothing more

femalizing than to be prepared,

then allow a man to have his waywith you. One of my favorites is

after I’ve been with a man and set

myself down again, is feeling the

air bubbles gurgle from myopening. Its one of the after

pleasures that allows it to linger

on. The smooth soothing satisfied

sensation makes me feel goose-

Bookstores around our townalways have an influx of such nice

looking guys (a lollipop lickers

heaven). I nearly cream my jeans

when I’m watching them look

through the magazines imagining

what’s going through their minds— wishing I could be her. When I

fancy, and am in the mood. I’ll

hang out and get the motion from

a guy. Trouble is, for me to be

able to achieve satisfaction it takes

more than we can do in five

minutes or so in a dark booth. So

I got bold and left my name and

phone number in the movie booths

of some of the nice bookstores

here in our town. I wrote

something like “FOR GOODHEAD (FOXES ONLY)” or “IS

THERE ANYONE HERE WHONEEDS THEIR COCK SUCKED?TV LOVES IT, GIRLFRIENDSOMETIMES AVAILABLE FORTHREESOMES, CALL ‘BABY’ANYTIME. OPEN TOSUGGESTIONS.” The phone rang

off the hook. We figure a few

meetings a day (you go crazy if

you don’t, once you get started)

five or six days a week keeps us

more than satisfied. Around tenish

is good to start seeing guys, maybeagain at two or three, then again

at seven or so. The phone will ring

all night long so if you wish to get

sleep, just take it off the hook. It’s

nice to be able to set a schedule

but you also have to play it by ear

sometimes. Its nicest when you do

it from habit and the more you

practice the better you get. Youcan make some permanent friends

this way and create a small circle

of friends you may know for your

whole life. And since they knowexactly what you enjoy, you’ll find

that they will be arranging get-

togethers for you. Sometimes

where you will be the guest of

honor at a small party and find

yourself with two or three nice

looking guys at once. I should

elaborate on how nice and

sometimes not so nice guys can be

when you leave yourself wide open

like this, but I won’t because that

is the fun of it. Learning for

yourself. I have discovered though

that spread wide open is the waymost men will prefer you. You’ll

get a lot of 18-22 guys calling.

Experience has taught me that a

man who knows and does is the

best regardless. Friday nights are

super and weekdays are what

makes it. Week-ends I always leave

for special friends. My fantasy is

the same today as it was then, to

please the person or persons I’m

with, (a fine romance with no

morals.) Paradise can happen to

anyone who knows what they

want. Once you know you also

then know what you have to do to

get it. One trick I’ve used is leave

an alias and when he or she calls

(I’ve also met couples this way.)

you then know exactly what they

wish and where they’re calling

from by the name they ask for,

without having to ask. I guess I’ve

developed multiple personalities

from this but they’re all still me.

Carly Simon summed it up in one

of her songs, “The Girl You Think

You See’’ Anticipation album. I’ve

tried to model my fern self to it

ever since first hearing it.

All the time doing this sort of

thing, do you wonder what I do

for inspiration? Well, every chance

I get I read, listen to, and view

these ladies for guidance. Marilyn

Monroe, when I was little I wished

I could be her. The book “Confi-

dential” by Lena Pepitone is

super. Jessica Lang as Francis

Farmer (identify), you’ve got to

rent her video. I have many times.

Your “Kim Christy’s Image,”

magazine and good taste in

transvestisms, best hope. Kim, you

know everyone must certainly envy

you. You’re beautiful, delectable,

but believe it or not, there are

many times when I don’t envy you

because I know “it’s tuff at the

top.” The intimate diary of Linda

Lovelace and “Inside Linda

Lovelace” are wonderful books

she wrote before the overexposure

became too much of a burden.

Pretty baby Brooke Sheilds. If

you’ve never seen her first movie

“Pretty Baby” you missed

something. And for your personal

touch, Barbara Eden I simply

adore you. I also try to work out

twice a day with Charlene Prickett,

she’s a great exercise lady here on

the health network. Try her, you’ll

like her. It makes positions easier

to hold and get into, like a good

hole should. If you want it bad

enough you’ll amaze yourself at

what you can accomplish.

Now, lets examine the changing

times. The way I see the trend for

the next years to come is less sex

and more involvement in fun

things like cross dressing. I guess I

should feel fortunate. There are

very few women who’ve had the

pleasure of being with as manymen as I’ve already been luck

enough to have been with. I plan

to always keep my thingy downthere because its what makes me a

special kind of woman that’s muchharder to come by. I hope you

don’t think me a mental problem

from all this and I’m sorry if I’ve

been babbling too much, but that’s

Quite a few years ago the

fantasy that I was fortunate

enough to be able to live was not

About five years ago when I was a

senior in high school I discovered I

was attracted to men as well as

women. The discovery that I was

bisexual came as a shock because

up to that point I had been inter-

ested only in girls. But a cross-

dressing experience and a brief

love affair with a man revealed the

true me.

One night I was studying at the

public library when a handsome

young man approached me and

asked if he could borrow mydictionary. We got to talking and

he invited me out for a coke.

Afterward he gave me a ride homein his sports car. His name was

Perry and he was a law student.

We got to be friends and Perry

invited me to play tennis with him.

After several tennis dates I began

to feel a strong attraction to this

handsome young man but I was

not able to admit it even to myself.

From the way Perry talked to meand the way he treated me I could

tell that he liked me in a special

way. But I was just too young and

inexperienced to do anything about

it.

One Saturday Perry took me to

the park to play tennis. There was

a downpour and we both got

soaked. Perry took me to his homewhere he lived with his mother and

sister. No one was around so we

stripped off our wet clothing and

got into the shower together.

I won’t bore you with the details

but Perry and I had quite an

afternoon. At one point Perry had

me dress up as a girl in some of

his sister’s clothing. I put on

panties, a garter belt, hose, heels,

a slip, a bra and a dress. The

clothes did not fit perfectly but

they made me feel incredibly

feminine. I also put on some

lipstick and jewelry. Then I sat in

Perry’s lap and we necked and

played kissy-face. By the end of

the day I was a confirmed drag

queen and madly in love with

Perry’s cock.

I began seeing Perry on a

regular basis — almost every day.

Usually we would just go out

together as two guys but whenever

possible we went to his place to

play “house.’’ I would get dressed

up in his sister’s clothes and make-

up and pretend I was his woman.

One day we went shopping

together and he bought me some

the article he just laughed and said

he was going to get married to her

because she was rich and his

parents thought it was the best

thing for him to do. She was the

daughter of a promiment lawyer

and Perry expected to join his

father-in-law’s firm. That was the

end of our affair.

I went to college that fall with

my feminine wardrobe in a trunk.

There was no privacy in the

dormitory so dressing up was out

of the question. But, after a few

months I discovered and joined the

campus Gay Students Alliance and

resumed my social life. The second

semester I was able to move out of

freshman dormitory and into a

large rooming house that was

populated with other gay students.

Here I was free to dress as I

pleased with several other she-

males who lived there.

I decided to make myself as

feminine as possible. I plucked myeyebrows, kept my body hair

completely shaved, and let the hair

on my head grow long. I got myfinger and toenails manicured like

a womans and had my ears

pierced. I got a part-time job in

the campus bookstore to earn extra

money to pay for my female

wardrobe and make-up. Whenever

I was at the rooming house I wore

feminine clothing. But on campus

we had to wear male clothes or at

least look like we were of the male

gender. Most of the time I was

wearing feminine underthings and

jewelry. Of course, most of the

student body was straight and the

gay kids were despised and madefun of by the fraternity and

sorority members. But we learned

to take it in stride.

By the end of my freshman year

I had a steady boyfriend. His

name was Eddie and he was a

biker type who liked to wear

leathers and high heeled boots. I

would get dressed up in a girl

biker’s outfit sometimes and ride

around behind him. We had a lot

of fun together but he left school

the following year and I lost track

of him.

My next conquest was an

English Professor who was married

and in the closet as far as his being

gay was concerned. I met him at a

party for gay people. I was in drag

— completely dressed from head

to toe in the sort of outfit a college

coed might wear. His name was

Arnold and he was very intelligent

and witty. He treated me as

though I were really a lady. I was

very coy with him at first and

refused to date him. But he kept

sending me mash notes, flowers,

and little gifts. Finally I told him I

would go out with him, I got

myself dolled up, packed an

overnight bag, and made him drive

us to a motel fifty miles from the

campus. He checked us in as a

man and wife and we spent the

night there. Arnold turned out to

be a submissive queen type so I

assumed the dominant female role

and made him my sissyboy slave.

The next day I took him shopping

and bought him a dog collar and

cuffs along with a leather bondage

outfit. For two years Arnold came

to me periodically for weekend

sessions. Then he got another

teaching position and left our

campus.

During my junior year I was

able to obtain female hormone

shots and pills from a medical

student and began to develop

breasts and feminine skin and hair

distribution. I wanted to live

fulltime as a woman but there was

no way I could, I already looked

so feminine that wearing male

clothes was a problem but

conditions at our university just

did not aliowe me to go fulltime.

One thing about being so feminine

and yet still retaining enough

masculinity — I was equally

attractive to men and women. I

had many one night stands with

lesbian women and a few straight

girls as well.

In the spring of my junior year I

went to a fancy drag ball dressed

in an evening gown with all the

accessories. I made Arnold go as

my escort wearing his dog collar, a

tux, and an earring.

I am in graduate school now at

another university. I have my ownapartment and live fulltime as a

she-male woman. Life is full of

lovers and excitement. But, I still

think back to that afternoon with

Perry. Somehow there’s no time

like the first time.

Dear Kim,

What is it about dressing as a

woman that is so addicting, so

deeply satisfying to those of us whoindulge? Hard to say, and it prob-

ably differs for each of us,

depending on our backgrounds andour needs.

But a common denominator must

surely be that by seeing our softer

side, we achieve an inner peace — a

sense of completeness — that the

constant drone of male existence

can never offer. For me, as / apply

eyeliner or do my nails, even as myhands shakefrom excitement, /feel

a sense of quiet contentment, a

sense of balance restored. Ah .. .

home again.

Interestingly, I always feel like

ME, as man or as woman. The same

ME is inside. Just as I’m mewhether expressing myself on the

baseball diamond or at the piano.

I’m me in pants and I’m me in a

skirt.

My wife is out of town for a

week, so I’ve had the opportunity

for longer, more intense sessions.

She knows about my transvestite

activities, but, far from approving,

she considers this to be one of the

tragedies of HER life. Ah, if she

could be a bit more open, what

pleasure we could enjoy together.

Maybe with time! Hope springs

The liberation ofwomen is

an ongoing and healthy

process. Centuries of

culturally imposed sex

role stereotypes are being smashed

as women reach but in numerous

directions to say “I can,” and ‘‘I

will.” While much work remains to

be done to bring women onto an

equal footing with men, neverthe-

less the frontiers have been crossed.

We now have a woman Supreme

Court justice, women in the

Cabinet, in Congress, and in just

about every other area of endeavoar

in which they have cared to

participate.

Women have fought and won a

war of liberation in our society. But

what of men? The assumption has al-

ways been that men — having enjoy-

status in society —

were already free. Women were

fighting to achieve the rights,

privileges and opportunities that

already existed for men. But howtrue is this? Are men “free,” or do

men simply enjoy a particular set of

sociocultural opportunities that wo-

men coveted and had been denied?

And — with the exception of a few

symbolic gestures like refusing to

have doors held open for them —didn’t women demand and attain the

privileges of men IN ADDITIONTOTHE RIGHTS, PRIVILEGES ANDOPPORTUNITIES that womentraditionally enjoyed? Isn’t it true

that a woman now has tremendous

flexibility in defining herself as an

individual? Isn’t it equally true that

men remain locked in rigid roles with

far more limited opportunities for

self-expression?

If aU this strikes you as ludicrous,

let me phrase the question this way:

If women can be bodybuilders, can

men be pretty? Can a man, without

fear of ostracism and social stigma,

try to be pretty? Can he highlight his

eyes with mascara, soften his lips

with lipstick, shave his legs and wear

high heels to show off their beauty?

Not to imitate a woman, but as a

personal interpretation and expres-

sion of masculinity?

Of course, at present, any such

man would invite scorn and ridicule.

Now perhaps you are asking “Whywould any man want to do this?”

Well, the answer is that manywouldn’t. Some would. The real

question is “Why isn’t it possible?”

Why should men, in a liberated

society, enjoy less opportunities

women have achieved (of are in the

process of achieving) the best of

both Worlds — the opportunity for a

full range of self-expression, while

men are stuck. Why?Let’s take the issue of Dress for

example. Women can wear virtually

anything, from an only slightly fem-

inized business suit, to Jockey

briefs, to a sweaty old pair of

“Cons.” But let a man appear in a

sweater with just the faintest trace

of a puffed sleeve, or a V-neck that

youth to master its forms and there-
