SUMMARY OF MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Contribution to Nursing Education

Published 3 textbooks and 3 practical records, Contributed chapter

❖ Textbooks on Psychiatric nursing and Psychology for nurses have been written as per

the Indian Nursing Council syllabus. Both the books have been recommended by many

universities in the Nursing curriculum at both undergraduate and Post Graduate levels.

These books have played a significant role in improving the knowledge, skills and

26

nursing standards. Practical Record Books have improved patient documentation and

made clinical recordings more systematic and scientific.

Initiation of Innovative Nursing Interventions ❖ In 2011, I have undergone Body-Mind-Spirit (BMS) practitioner course at Centre of

Behavioral Health, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong. These Eastern based holistic

nursing interventions were implemented on depressive patients (120 Nos.) at SNR

District Hospital, Kolar with a 6-month follow up as a part of Ph.D study. This study

mainly highlighted the simple innovative nursing interventions which can be followed

by any nurse in a psychiatric set up. This study added innovative nursing interventions

to psychiatric nursing field.

❖ Was a co-investigator in NIMHANS intra mural fund research project involved in

development of video film (Nava Jeevana) for Alcoholic patients. As a part of the

study titled “Development and evaluation of the effectiveness of integrated audio visual

aided interactive relapse prevention intervention among individuals with alcohol

dependence” the video was tested on 60 alcoholic patients at Dharwad Institute of

Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (DIMHANS), Dharwad with 6-month follow up

during 2014 to know the mean relapse rate. This video development added innovative

nursing intervention for de-addiction patients.

❖ As a body mind spirit practitioner two related projects were taken up under the aegis of

Indian Council for Social Science Research, New Delhi and Hong Kong University,

Hong Kong.

Contributions to Nursing Research ❖ Published 30 research articles – Pubmed Indexed journals (14), other indexed journals

(10), Indian nursing journals (6), and concept articles (18).

❖ Presented 23 scientific papers in National and International Conferences

❖ Participated as Resource person in 56 National and International Conferences

NARRATIVE STATEMENT

28

Over the past decade, nurses have been the focus of the movement that reflects probably

more changes than in the past decades combined. It became evident that the transformation of

new knowledge into clinically useful forms was required to produce a meaningful impact on

performance and patient outcomes.

As an educator and an author, I have always felt that burgeoning need to address this issue

and fill the gap in my own small way. A close look at the issue revealed that a part of the

difficulty was in improving the literacy among student nurses and the other in developing a

positive perception among them. No later did I realize this, I began channeling my efforts and

resources and came out with textbooks in 3 different disciplines which have evinced keen

interest among the student community.I have used every conference, workshop and

community outreach program as a tool to further this philosophy. To improve the prowess

among students, I have also been authoring research articles at every given opportunity. To

meet my societal obligation as a nursing professional, I have taken up 2 funded projects with

an aim to bring a change among the lives of adolescent girls and alcoholics using well

accepted evidenced based practices which involve body-mind-spirit techniques. To set an

example and carry the torch ahead I have been guiding many a PG and Ph.D nursing students,

and urging them to take up intervention studies meant to improve and transform health care.
