NCPCR WRITES TO RAJ CMO ON MARRIAGE BILLNCPCR alarms CMO, says it would “legitimise” child marriages New Delhi: The Na-tional Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has written to the Rajasthan CMOexpressing appre-hensions over the Reg-istration of Marriages (Amendment) Bill, 2021, saying it “legitimises” child marriages.

The NCPCR, in its let-ter, said the Section 8 of the amendment bill pro-vides for registration of child marriages through marriage reg-istration officers of the place where they have been residing for more than 30 days.

The commission feared the enactment of the bill may have a seri-ous impact on the phys-ical, psychological, and social state of the mi-

nors, and their educa-tion. It asked the gov-ernment to reconsider the bill and review it in accordance with the law and welfare of the children in the state.

“The bill states that the marriage between the bridegroom who has not completed 21

years and the bride who has not completed 18 years of age could be registered by the par-ents or guardians with-in the 30 days of the marriage,” the NCPCR said in the letter on Fri-day. The commission said the bill “legitimis-es” child marriages in

Rajasthan. The Rajasthan As-

sembly had last week passed the bill amend-ing a 2009 Act. The bill has fomented a consid-erable controversy elic-iting even a public in-terest litigation over the legitimacy of the said section. —PTI

Dr Sharma said that at present the process of registration of manufac-turers, importers, dis-tributors, dealers etc of sonography machines in the PCPNDT cell was of-

fline, but with the pro-cess getting online, the applicant firm can sub-mit the relevant docu-ments and registration fees online and need not come to office unneces-sarily. “The status of the

concerned application form can be tracked on-line and they will also be informed through SMS. The user manual for the registration process is made available,” said Dr Raghu.

Jaipur: The biggest exam of the state REET will today test the prepa-rations of the govern-ment as well the modus operandi of the cheats. Preparations have been completed by the educa-tion department, admin-istration and the police for smooth conduct of the exam. Along with this, preparations are being carried out on a war footing to prevent cheating. Candidates have already left for cen-tres two days prior. In such a situation, it is a big challenge to conduct the exam peacefully.

DESPERATE ATTEMPTS NEEDED TO AVERT A GLOBAL DISASTER

he news from the weatherman is that cyclone Gulab is set to strike areas in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

There is already mounting con-cern over increasing frequency and ferocity of cyclonic storms and unusual weather patterns. The changes are being attributed to global warming caused by greenhouse gas emission. The blame lies on the developed na-tions which have been unable to bring down these emissions while expecting small countries to do their bit. At the United Na-tions General Assembly low-ly-ing countries urged the rich countries to cut down emissions to avert an existential crisis.

Under the 2015 Paris Agree-ment, countries agreed to en-sure that global temperatures do not rise more than 1.5 degree Celsius. Anything between 1.5 and 2 degrees could lead to the submergence of Maldives. To avoid that disaster global emis-sions have to be halved by 2030.

Given the rich nations’ half-hearted commitment, it is for youth like Greta Thunberg to take up the fight.

oe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their first meeting after the former

took over as US President was all about preserving demo-cratic values and diversity. As the US President said, Ma-hatma Gandhi’s message of “non-violence, respect and tolerance matters today may-be more than ever”. Prime Minister Modi also spoke about “democratic values, traditions to which both countries are committed”. Both the factors are relevant both to the US and India. Modi also spoke about technology, “the most important driving force” in the world today.

The US has shared some technology with India but when it came to giving nucle-

ar-powered attack subma-rines Washington said a blunt no. It also did not part with Pfizer and Moderna’s mRNA vaccine technology to help India in its fight against Covid-19. In fact, both the companies wanted sovereign

assets as guarantees for sup-plying their vaccines. India declined to accept the condi-tion and is in the process of developing its own version of the vaccine.

Modi’s Washington visit saw another first in the in-person meeting he had with VP Kamala Harris. The US V-P voiced concern over the threat to democracies around the world and said it was “im-perative that we defend dem-ocratic principles and insti-tutions within our respective countries & around world”.

Notable part of Modi-Har-ris meeting was Pak’s duplic-ity on terrorism. Harris said terror groups were active there and asked Pakistan to ensure that these groups do not pose a threat to US and India.

J

GROWTH OF THE CONGRESS PARTY AFTER PUNJAB!

mong the states going to the polls early next year are Ut-tar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Ma-nipur, Goa and Punjab. Till the beginning of the month it appeared that with the ex-ception of Punjab the Con-gress would lose the other four states. With the uncere-monious departure of Cap-tain Amarinder Singh, Pun-jab too will be lost. That will leave the Congress in office in one major state, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh is precari-ously poised. In Maharashtra and Kerala the Congress is an insignificant and ignored junior partner.

The appellation, “Congress High Command” is a misno-mer. There was once a High Command. No longer so. Yet, regrettably no one challenges the trio- Shrimati Sonia Gan-dhi, Shri Rahul Gandhi and Shrimati Vadra. Even the group of 23 is no longer heard of. One or two of its members do speak. Number Ten Jan-path ignores them.

For the past few years the performance of the party in U.P has been pitiful. In 2017 its tally in U.P was 7 out of 403 seats.

I shall now take up the self-

inflicted mess in Punjab. The General Secretary incharge of Punjab, Shri Harish Rawat has the knack of making con-fusion more confounded by his incoherence and contra-dictory pronouncements- He has one foot in Uttrakhand, his home state and another in Punjab. His head and heart are in his home state. He as-pires to become Chief Minis-ter. A perfectly legitimate desire. But he wants to have the cake and eat it too.

One day he says Ama-rinder Singh will lead the Congress in the Assembly elections. Then he suggests that Navjot Singh Sidhu would be that face. Next it will be Shri Sidhu and the newly elected Chief Minister jointly. He also pronounced the elections will be fought under the leadership of Smt. Sonia Gandhi who is largely incommunicative. She is supposed to be unwell. But well enough to go to Masho-bra, in Himachal Pradesh for a holiday.

How did the great cricket-er and T.V comedian, popular in Pakistan become PCC President inspite of the op-position of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. It is al-leged that Shri Sidhu has the backing of Shrimati Vadra. What has she to do with Pun-jab? She is General Secretary of UP. Shri Rahul Gandhi re-signed as Congress President sometime back. Now he holds no post in the party. Never-

theless he is calling all the shots. Power without respon-sibility.

Both brother and sister have attractive and engaging personalities. However they are no longer young. They are knocking on the doors of mid-dle age. If I am not mistaken Rahul Gandhi was born in 1971 and his sister two years later. Yet the party refers to them as young leaders.

Being the second senior most Congress Chief Minis-ter, the straightforward and non-intriguing Captain Ama-rinder Singh was a victim of his complacency. The party deceived him by keeping him in the dark about a meeting of the PCC, where a new Chief Minister was chosen. He had no option but to re-sign. He said he had been “humiliated and insulted”. He felt hurt.

Congress spokesperson- a lady named Supriya Shri-nate, on the 23rd lectured the former Chief Minister, “He is our elder and the elderly of-ten get angry and say a lot of

things. We respect his anger, age and experience. We hope he does reconsider his words. But, there is no space in poli-tics for anger, envy, enmity, vendetta and personal at-tacks and comments against political opponents.”

This does little credit to the spokesperson. Politics is not a game of table tennis. It is a deadly power game. Is she aware of the raging bouts of anger of several eminent congress leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru. I was once at the receiving end of his not so affectionate wrath. I worked closely with Indira Gandhi from 1966 to 1971. Her anger made senior congress cabinet ministers shiver in their dhotis. Rajiv Gandhi’s anger is well known. He was a most likeable human being, but his lapse into ill-temper could be unnerving. He once shouted at the Chief Minis-ters of Andhra and Rajasthan in public.

Gandhiji’s controlled in-dignation is well known. He made it impossible for Sub-has Chandra Bose to contin-ue as Congress president, when Bose crossed his path in 1938-39.

What will Amarinder Sin-gh do next? He will hit where it hurts most. Whatever chances the Congress had of winning the Assembly elec-tions in Punjab early next year are more or less over.

Bengaluru: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday said that ob-jection to implementa-tion of National Educa-tion Policy (NEP), is natural. He was ad-dressing the media here on Saturday.

Answering a ques-tion on strong objec-tions raised by the Con-gress for implementa-tion of NEP, he said, the government will implement NEP only

after deliberations and considering advantag-es as well as disadvan-tages.

Birla opined that, discipline and decency are missing in Parlia-ment and Assemblies these days. The good message has to reach to the public. Birla added, celebrating 100 years of the Speakers’ Con-ference which coin-cides with the plati-num jubilee of Indian

Independence, 75 dif-ferent programmes on Parliamentary democ-racy would be organ-ised in different parts of the country.

“The tradition of

holding Speakers’ Con-ference is completing 100 years this year. The first such conference was held in 1921 at Shimla and once again after 100 years, the con-

ference is taking place in Shimla,” Birla told reporters.

He said the partici-pants would discuss is-sues related to the par-liamentary democracy,

including the objec-tives achieved in the past 75 years.

“Along with it, we plan to hold the 75 dif-ferent programmes in different parts of the country involving the smallest but the most important and respon-sible institution of the democracy, which is village Panchayat to Parliament, municipal corporations, legisla-tive assemblies or Pan-chayats,” Birla said.

The Speaker said this is the centenary of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as well. In this regard, an important internation-al conference would

take place on Decem-ber 4 & 5 in Delhi.

“The Speaker, PAC chairperson, its mem-bers, and the PAC chairpersons from oth-er countries will take part in it,” he said.

“We will make an ad-visory on SOP to run the House in lowest level of institutions, which the States can follow,” he said. The Assembly Speakers would hold such pro-grammes in their re-spective States as well.

Replying to a query on sessions being held till late in the night, the Lok Sabha Speaker said the past five ses-sions saw an increase

in the productivity of the proceedings.

“Despite prevalence of COVID, our mem-bers sat in House till late night and held the proceedings more than the scheduled time. The productivity was 167 per cent and there was members’ partici-pation,” he said.

Birla said a database on the important dis-cussions held in Parlia-ment and the Legisla-tures would be pre-pared in Hindi and English in six months to add to the library in Parliament for the ca-pacity- building of the members in the elected bodies. —PTI

IS PESB CHAIRPERSON UNHAPPY AND THINKING OF QUITTING?Rakesh Ranjan

New Delhi: Uncon-firmed reports, floating in the corridors of pow-er, indicate that the PESB’s first-ever wom-an chairperson Padma Shri awardee Mallika Srinivasan, who also happens to be the first from the private sector to honor the post, isn’t exactly happy with the prestigious, but equally demanding job.

Probably, the com-plex selection process, coupled with the enor-mity of time involved, might have driven her to recognise and con-clude that the job isn’t worth her time and at-tention, particularly because of the fact that

she has to manage her own enterprise TAFE Ltd. Besides, she is on the boards of Tata Steel, US AGCO Corporation, USIBC, executive board of Hyderabad-based ISB, Governing Board of IIT-M, Bharathi-dasan Institute of Man-agement (BIM), Trichy, and a member of the Governing Body of Stel-la Maris College, Chen-nai. Clearly, she has too many things to attend to.

If well-placed sourc-es are to be believed, she has reportedly ex-pressed to DoPT her an-guish at PESB’s busi-ness frame-work, which tends to be sub-optimal in the screening and se-lection of candidates.

Given what she has come to face, she has re-portedly made it clear that at best, she might consider involving her-self with the selection of CMDs and MDs, but definitely not of direc-tors of various PSU boards. The latter is a time-consuming pro-cess. If it is true as ru-mored that she has sent out a displeasure note

to DoPT and is strongly inclined to bid goodbye, it casts a shadow on the present dispensation’s ability to streamline the PESB work culture to make the organisation an efficient vehicle of screening and selecting persons for top appoint-ments in CPSUs.

It is pointed out that the PESB conducts in-terviews for at least 3-4

days every week, in-volving on an average 7-8 shortlisted candi-dates for each appoint-ment.

Even if the interview of a candidate lasts only for 30-40 minutes, it con-sumes 4-5 hrs engage-ments 4 days a week leaving for a person like Mallika who, as pointed out, has her hands full might have become too much to bear.

There are two ways for the government to deal with her memo. Ig-nore it at its own peril and let her go. Or use the opportunity to cred-ibly and verifiably insu-late the PESB from ma-lign influences to let her continue with her excellent performance.

New Delhi: Ruling BJP in Tripura is a worried lot as the aggressive politics of Mamata Ba-nerjee’s party has caused quiet a conster-nation. One, there is a tussle within govern-ment and many party MLAs have opened a front against CM Biplab Deb. On the other hand, Trinamool Congress has made strong in-roads in the state.

After winning West Bengal polls, Mamata has put many senior leaders of the party in

Tripura. Mukul Roy, who left BJP and joined TMC, is completely han-dling politics of Tripu-ra, while Sushmita Deb,

who recently left Congress to join TMC, has

also been em-ployed by

Mamata to help capture up Bengali

voters there. Sushmita has also

been given RS ticket by Didi. Meanwhile, didi’s nephew Abhishek Ba-nerjee has also started working hard, consider-ing Tripura project as his own.

How much the BJP is upset with

him, it is evident

from the fact that when-ever he goes to Tripura, BJP workers gather to oppose him. Black flags are shown to him, slo-gans are raised against him and sometimes his convoy is attacked. He had planned to hold a big rally in Agartala, for which administra-tion denied approval. Not giving permission also shows that BJP is scared of TMC. Noth-ing can be said about result as of now but it is certain TMC will fight as main opposition in Tripura and give a good fight to BJP.

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is emerg-ing like a new superman of the BJP. He is the head of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and has the re-sponsibility of handling politics of BJP and al-lies in all the states of the Northeast.

After the elections in May, he was made the Chief Minister of As-sam and even after be-coming the Chief Min-ister, he continued to handle the responsibil-ity of NEDA. Now, the Union Home Ministry has engaged him to find a solution to the ULFA problem and has en-trusted him with the responsibility of talk-

ing to ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah.

Not only this, he will also work to solve the Naga problem that has been going on for dec-

ades. Himanta Biswa Sar-

ma met the leader of the Naga movement in Dimapur recently. He along with Nagaland

SM Neiphiu Rio met NSCN-IM leader T Muivah and talks were held between the three leaders to solve the Naga problem. A day later, Sarma said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had author-ised him to speak to U L FA - I n d e p e n d e n t leader Paresh Baruah.

Baruah is outside In-dia and the government has admitted that talks were held with him through a third party. Now Himanta Biswa Sarma will talk directly to Paresh Baruah and

as the talks progress, the Central government will also join it.

With the kind of pop-ularity that Sarma has and the way he works, it looks like he can take the conversation to some level. However, they have failed to re-solve the border dis-pute with Mizoram and the issue has led to vio-lent clashes between the two states. Never-theless, his ability and capability cannot be as-sessed from this and he will be tested by ULFA and Naga talks.

Shiv Sena, which is leading the Mahavikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, is creat-ing such an illusion that right from Sharad Pawar, who is consid-ered one of the smart-est leader of the coun-try, to the ‘consummate strategists’ of BJP, eve-ryone is spellbound as to what does the Shiv Sena want?

Senior Shiv Sena leader and former Un-ion Minister Anant Geete’s attack on Pa-war is not a minor one. Geete called Pawar a back-stabber and said that he cannot be a leader of Shiv Sainiks.

He also said that when he could not stay with Congress then why would he be with Shiv Sena?

Later, Sanjay Raut clarified on this and said that this is not a statement of the party. He praised Pawar and said that he is the main pillar of Maha Vikas Aghadi govern-ment.

A few days ago, when Pawar had targeted Congress and called it a zamindar, who had only the old mansion, yet he was not ready to understand, the Shiv Sena had sided with Pawar.

Just imagine, on one hand Sena sided with NCP in the ‘duel’ be-tween NCP and Con-gress while on the oth-er hand it made per-

sonal attacks on NCP supremo. Isn’t this cre-ating confusion?

Apart from this com-plicated relationship between the 3 parties of Mahavikas Aghadi, what is going on be-tween Shiv Sena and BJP is also a big mys-tery.

In a programme re-cently, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray pointed to former BJP state president and Un-ion Minister Raosaheb Danve and described BJP as a future ally.

After that Sanjay Raut praised PM Modi and said that these is no leader in the coun-try of his stature. On

one hand there is such a show of love with the BJP and on the other there is such a fight that when Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari raised the issue of law and order in the state by writing a letter, CM Thackeray attacks him in such a way that pos-sibly no government has ever undertaken on a governor.

Similarly, all the cen-tral agencies are after Shiv Sena leaders and ministers.

Anil Deshmukh, who was the Home Minister had to resign due to the investigation of NIA and he is on the run to avoid arrest.

What does Shiv Sena want after all?

A TWIST IN THE TALE!

On one hand friendship of Shiv Sena and on the other, action of Central agencies and attacks

by BJP leaders, it looks like there will be some upheaval in the state ahead of the municipal elec-tions to be held early next year. What will happen and how it will happen is not clear yet, but the way the political ‘battlefield’ is panning, smells of some ‘deep strategy’.

Ajmer: A 30-year-old man accused of theft died by suicide by hang-ing from a tree near the Jawaja police station of Ajmer. Jaipur: A bench of Jus-tice Arun Bhansali in the Rajasthan High Court has summoned the Personnel Secre-tary, Alwar Collector and others to respond for not granting com-passionate appoint-ment to the daughter of the Kargil War martyr.

In this regard, Rekha Chauhan filed a peti-tion and told the HC that her father Satyaveer Singh was martyred during the war in Kargil. At that time she was seven years old. After gradu-ating in 2013, the peti-tioner applied for a compassionate appoint-ment in Sainik Welfare Office, which was ac-cepted by the officials and the file was sent to the Alwar collector.

Jaipur: There are al-ways a handful of offi-cials in any government who have a strange con-nection with transfer lists as almost all lists feature their names. Ei-ther the work ethic of these officers is defec-tive or their perfor-mance is not up to the mark or they end up get-ting embroiled in con-troversies. Such officers do not stay on one post-ing for a long time and therefore their ‘term’ in one office is, on an aver-age, around one year.

The story of two IAS officers in the recent transfer list in exempla-ry here. 2013 batch IAS Alok Ranjan is a young bureaucrat who has been transferred ten times in seven years of service and in fact in this government’s two and a half year tenure, Ranjan has been transferred a whopping 6 times. He has served as CEO Smart City Jaipur for 9 months,

Collector Dungarpur for 5 months, project direc-tor in Agriculture De-partment for 4 months, JDA Secretary for 5 months and MD, Medical Service Corporation for 7 months. Now his new posting is of JS, Energy. He had performed better as CEO of Smart City Jaipur, but he could not hold on to the position. Ranjan courted contro-versy on purchase of Remdesivir and Concen-trators and the ‘fire’ had reached upto the govern-ment and therefore he was removed.

Second IAS officer Vishram Meena is a sen-ior bureaucrat and in the new list he has been given important posting

of MD, RCDF, on the strong recommendation of Dairy minister Pramod Jain Bhaya. In his 30 years of service, he has been transferred 28 times which means on average he has served on one posting for 12 months. He has been put on APO twice, once when he was ADM Sawai madhopur and due to some mistake the then Bharatpur Divi-sional Commissioner Niranjan Arya had put him on APO in Decem-ber 2007.

Meena again courted controversy when he was ED (Traffic) in RSRTC when MD Bhaskar Sawant had complained about him

to the government over irregularities. Govern-ment then transferred him to Bikaner. It was in March 2020, he was sent to Barmer as Collector for the first time, but on the complaints of local politicians, he was re-moved after merely ten months. When he was made head of Gopalan department, he could stay there for merely seven months and just prior to his current post-ing he was made Secre-tary of Human Rights Commission where he could stay for only four months.

The reason for a ‘post-mortem’ of a jun-ior and senior IAS of-ficer is that regular transfer of officials raises questions on their abilities, image and loyalty which ulti-mately harms their work drive! But the mil-lion dollar question is when DoP, which is headed by CM himself, will take cognizance on this dismal scenario?

Frequent transfers of Ranjan, Meena raise query?

Jaipur: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday accused the state’s TMC government of violat-ing human rights there and working under a conspiracy for political mileage. “What I see there is the rampant human rights viola-tions and the govern-ment working under a planned conspiracy to get political mileage, harming the spirit of the Indian Constitu-tion,” said Dhankhar. He made the allega-tions while addressing a function on birth an-niversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay at Dhankya village in the Jaipur.

Earlier Dhankhar

met his Rajasthan coun-terpart Kalraj Mishra and CM Ashok Gehlot in Jaipur. It was a cour-tesy visit. The West Ben-gal governor was ac-companied by his wife Sudesh Dhankhar.

A lunch was also or-ganised at residence of Congress leader Ran-

deep Dhankhar in hon-our of WB Governor which was attended by Assembly Speaker Dr CP Joshi, BJP State President Satish Poon-ia, Ministers Lalchand Kataria, Udai Lal An-jana, Rajendra Yadav, several MLAs, DGP ML Lather, Jaipur Police

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/010/2019-21

Congress is witness-ing immense inter-

nal struggle in Chhat-tisgarh over the imple-mentation of the two and half year power-sharing formula, a promise that was made to Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singhdeo when Baghel govern-ment was formed.

In Chhattisgarh, a united force of Baghel and Singhdeo had made it possible for Congress to come to power.

And interesting enough in Rajasthan

too, an almost similar situation had occurred as Sachin Pilot was PCC Chief and Ashok Gehlot was the poll mastermind.

So when after win-ning the election the time for becoming Chief Minister came, several speculations were being made and one such speculation was if like Chhattis-garh, a power-sharing formula was thought of for Rajasthan as well?

Highly placed sourc-

es in the Congress re-vealed that there was never a power-sharing formula, like the one for Chhattisgarh, forged for Rajasthan, even though the party’s internal circles did try to peddle the word that such a formula was be-ing worked at.

Sources reveal that when the matter reached Sonia Gandhi, she summoned a senior AICC leader and ques-tioned if he had ever given such an assur-ance or spoke in the

general lines of this formula for Rajasthan too?

The senior leader de-nied giving any assur-ance or having ever worded such a sentence and in fact, the leader called up CM Ashok Gehlot that very night and informed him of what all happened in the meeting with Sonia Gandhi.

This over two and a half-year-old happen-ing has been revealed by the senior leader now!

Unlike C’garh, there was never a 2.5-yr power-sharing formula for Raj!RIGHT FROM THE HORSE’s MOUTH

SHAH’S INPUT IN UP WILL INCREASE

PM Modi had handed over the command

of UP to his most trust-ed Amit Shah long ago. The challenge before Shah, who specialises in organisational skills, is to make the party win and retain the power in UP. Sources said that the plan of Shah’s weekly tour to one dis-trict has also been pre-pared. Shah wanted his loyal Keshav Prasad Maurya to be handed over the responsibility of state president. Apart from this, he also wanted an alliance or merger of many small-er parties of UP with BJP but this could not happen because CM Adityanath Yogi’s vi-sion for future politics of UP is somewhat dif-ferent.Shah had decid-ed long ago with Sanjay Nishad of Nishad Party

that this party would contest the elections to-gether with BJP, in lieu of this, BJP would make Sanjay Nishad MLC from its quota. But Yogi did not like this idea, so the matter kept on postponing and one day, Sanjay Ni-shad’s sting operation (the talk of killing op-ponents to win the elec-tion) also came to the fore. Therefore, the plan got postponed. But be-fore his US visit, PM Modi gave his consent for names of 4 MLCs, including Sanjay Ni-shad. Now, Shah is meeting Sangh’s top functionaries & taking forward his plan of in-cluding 5-6 other state-level leaders of BJP, apart from Yogi Adity-anath, to be projected in election posters, means the election should not be contested only on the face of Yogi.

HOW RAJNI PATIL MADE IT TO RAJYA SABHA

Do you re-member the

Congress leader of Maha-r a s h -

tra Rajni Patil, when she was the Rajya Sab-ha MP last time, she had forgotten her purse at home. Sonia Gandhi had then dropped her from Parliament in her car. This time, on this only Rajya Sabha seat of Maharashtra, many Congress heavyweights like Mukul Wasnik had their eyes on. It is said that Gandhis are an-noyed with Wasnik these days & hence, he did not get his number for RS last time. He couldn’t make it this time too. Another name that was in discussion was that of Sushil Ku-mar Shinde, but Sharad Pawar opposed it. May-or of Mumbai & former chairperson of Maha-rashtra Women’s Com-mission Nirmala

Sawant was also con-sidered as one of

the key contend-ers. Rahul Gan-dhi wanted to give a ticket to wife of party’s young MP Ra-

jiv Satav, who died due to

c o r o -

na infection but Con-gress alone had nothing in its hands. The deci-sion couldn’t been tak-en without involving NCP & Shiv Sena. Rajni Patil had the silent sup-port of Pawar, so she won.

MAULANA’S SANGH CONNECTION

In the latest case of conversion, UP ATS

has arrested Maulana Kalim Siddiqui, Presi-dent of ‘Global Peace Centre’. Keep in mind that this is the same Maulana, who had at-tended the ‘Rashtra Pratham – Rashtra Sar-vopari’ (Nation First and Nation Paramount) programme organised in Mumbai on Septem-ber 7 and shared the stage with RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat. ATS has revealed that Maul-ana was receiving a lot of money from abroad, especially from the Gulf countries, for con-version. Sources said that Maulana had do-nated an amount of Rs 8-10 lakh at that event in Mumbai to get the bless-

ings of the Sangh Chief. The message is clear that through UP ATS, Yogi has made his in-tentions clear to Sangh.

ARON IN TROUBLE

Senior Congress lead-er & former MP

Praveen Aron seems to be implicated in a 15-year-old case. The is-sue of waving his li-censed revolver at a polling booth in Jogi Navada area has once again heated up. The case of 2006 has got a turning point with the testimony of the then District Magistrate and present Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Electronics & Infor-mation Technology Bhuvnesh Kumar in the court. That time, Praveen Aron’s wife Su-nita Aron was contest-

ing for Mayor’s elec-tion. Pappu Girdhari’s nephew was also con-testing against her. When Aaron allegedly took out his licensed re-volver, the administra-tion had filed a case against him.

HINDRANCE IN PM’S ROADSHOW

PM Narendra Modi had held a road-

show of some 15 km last time at the inaugura-tion of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Now the construction work of this express-way has been complet-ed, so on the second day of Navratri, on October 8, the PM is scheduled to hold another road-show on this express-way. However, due to heavy rains between Dasna and Meerut, this newly built road has been damaged in several places. Offi-cials say that soil erosion due to heavy rains is the reason behind the damage. More or less the same has hap-

pened with the newly built road in Bhopal, which could not even withstand the first rain. Union minister Nitin Gadkari has ordered an inquiry into the matter. Gadkari once said that ‘he knows that commis-sioning goes in con-struction work, but he is trying to curb it’.

The cost, which was earlier Rs 4-6 crore per km, has increased to Rs 20 crore per km and quality of construction is for all to see.

RUCKUS IN BIHAR

BJP leader and Bi-har Deputy CM

Tarkishore Prasad have been accused of giving contracts under various government schemes to his son and family members. It is alleged that Prasad awarded the tender worth Rs 53 crore to his son and relatives under the ‘Nal Jal Yojana’. Bi-har CM Nitish Kumar is said to be very an-noyed about this mat-ter. Nitish has pressur-ised BJP to remove

Tarkishore. Nit-ish is roam-

ing around s a y i n g that ‘he had sev-ered his

r e l a -

tionship with Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD on the is-sue of corruption be-cause he does not toler-ate corruption at all.’ Nitish has got assur-ance from the BJP lead-ership that once the matter is settled, the party will replace both the Deputy CMs - Tark-ishore Prasad and Renu Devi. Now BJP in Bihar is looking for a new Dy CM.

...AND FINALLY

Alarge group of In-dian journalists

has also reached Amer-ica to cover the US visit of Prime Minister Nar-endra Modi. If sources are to be believed, these journalists have got US visas with great diffi-culty even after PM Modi’s intervention. The reason behind this was Covaxin. Most of the journalists had got-ten doses of Covaxin, which is not recognised in America. Then Modi requested the US ad-ministration to give ‘Diplomatic immunity’ to these journalists fol-lowing which, they-could get the visas.

C

ne day a Lady from Delhi rang me up and in-quired about our forthcom-ing Dev Festival and before I

could invite her she her-self said that I am com-ing with my 5-6 friends and shall join the cele-brations of Dev Saab’s Birthday. I was sur-prised at the informal conversation as if she knew me for years. She told me that she was heading a group in Delhi to celebrate Dev Saab and all were very ardent fans of Dev Saab.

And her passion is taking her this year to Udaipur where she plans to shoot a scene in which Raju Guide was follow-ing Rozy in a Bazar with

her Ghungroo in her feet and public watch-ing leaving their shops. And an associate of her, who walks and speaks like Dev Anand shall be the co-actor in the scene.

It was a very memora-ble scene in the film Guide and she wants to reshoot it after 55 years. This is the height of the fanfare of the Ever-green Dev Anand.

When we talk of those who had the good for-tune of working with the Legend we get to know more and more each time about the Per-sona of him—his disci-plined life, his manner-ism, his simplicity, his religious devotion to his work and his optimism. A lot can be said about each of these character-istics of Dev Saab and we can understand their love for him. But what is all the more surprising is the madness in the fans who never met him or were close to him in any sense.

A fan from Udaipur still remembers with fondness the Udaipur Shooting of Guide---Where the song kanto se kheench ke ye aanchal was shot, This song starts from side roads of Udaipur going to nearby

villages, then goes to Chittorgarh Fort, Gaumukh, Vijay Stambh. Interesting to know that the truck

used was of the owner of Sadhna Hotel. Where other songs were shot and he takes pride in saying that he was in the

audience of Piya tose naina lage re. He remi-nisces that Dev Saab stopped near his house and he met him. Another

fan Durga Parhad from Jaipur relates that he was at the Railway Sta-tion when the train scene was shot with Raju Guide.

Films have been made for decades but remem-bering the minute de-tails of a film that was released in 1964 is just because of the crazy fan following of the Legend called Dev Anand. When I started this journey of showcasing my fancy for the Hero from JKK in Jaipur in the year 2014. I never had the idea that we shall be able to fill all the seats in the two hundred plus seat hall. My children and my wife bowed before my passion to do it. But people liked it so much that those who were sceptical about what I was going to show-case joined us. Their support gave me strength and a group of friends came forward and we got a society reg-istered, The Ever-green Dev Anand Soci-ety. This year it is our 6th Jaipur Dev Festival. These few years have given me the chance to

meet and interact with Dev Fans across India. But every time I find the next Fan, I feel he is more passionate about one or the other thing of Dev Saab to follow.

A guy met me yester-day and told me that he was fond of wearing Shirts with Dev Collars in his college days. But once what happened that the tailor master forgot to make it that way. And he adds that “My dreams were shat-tered to showcase my-self in marriage. So the same night I with some friends went to the tai-lor’s shop with cricket bats in hands and smashed all his fancy lights outside the show-room.” This was and this is the craze of gen-erations.

A lady settled in the USA is doing her PhD on Dev Anand and God knows how much con-tent she has on the Leg-end. A group of elite intellectual people ex-change around 100 messages on their WhatsApp Group daily and all messages with full content and au-thenticity.

This is because of the positivity and his atti-tude of romance to-wards life. He was known for his innovations, find-ing and launching new faces in his films. He nev-er looked back and la-mented on any of his less acclaimed films. He was a down to earth person, loving his subordinates and co-actors and yet a man of Aristocratic hab-its, his English accent and lifestyle. In 1923 we shall celebrate his 100th birthday with full fan-fare. Amen.

We are three sisters, making our home a madhouse to live in! I remember Mumma bringing us

piggy banks made out of mitti to have savings but, I used to poke the scissor blades inside the hole and squeeze out all the 500, 1000 rupee notes from it. I was caught red-handed but, I remem-ber it fondly. Not just that, we used to even dilute each others’ Frooties with water for some leg pullin! Another funny thing is that I was a sleepwalker. Every time our entire family goes out for any parties, weddings or functions, my dad introduces my elder sister, brother and me

to the guests. And, the thing is that my sister Sakshi is mumma’s carbon copy, they look way too similar. Even Yash, my brother has features similar to my parents. But, everyone says that I am an exception. I look nowhere close to any of my family members. People often joke around and have a hard time believing that I am really ‘my parent’s daughter!’

—NUPUR KOTHARI

Ihad Supriya when I was 35, so naturally, it was hard for me to

bring a baby into the world because of the complications of my age. Fourteen hours had gone by in pain, the doctors gave up, people around me were tired, I was tired and I almost lost hope but there she was crying her little ounce of pain, (FINALLY)! I held her closely, she was my miracle and she will always be.

This one time, there were 2 dress options that I was showing

to papa. One was like a half-sleeve length dress and the other was a cut-sleeved one, like 4 centimeters shorter. So, he found the half-sleeve length dress okay but I knew for a fact that the sleeveless one was way better. But, papa being papa, he goes, “Beta, don’t wear cut-sleeves, mosquitoes will bite you!” Because, that 4 centime-ters extra revealing skin is all that mosquitoes are after, right Pa? That was the last time I discussed dresses with him!

—RASHI AGARWAL

Our family of four has gone on countless trips, drives, and headache-like weddings. But a night we’ll never forget is the one where we got our dog, Basha. Dad

had gone and picked up the most quiet, shy dog from the basket and immediately declared him ‘The Chosen One,’ while we were brimming with ‘Awwww’s’ but also ‘Abhi door rakh!’ Well now, our family of fi ve goes on many countless trips but slightly less weddings. Because… Basha ka kon dhyaan rakhega?

POORVI SINGHAL [email protected]

eing a daughter in a Marwari Indian joint family is no easy feat and no, I am not talking about

silly high-school cur-fews! I’m talking “don’t wear ripped jeans, it is a sign of poverty” and “Touch feet, Namaste is just a formality” kind of baseless, often hilari-ous and always aug-mentative punches that your parents smash you with every minute of your exist-ence. “Well, I can see some aggressive nod-dings already!”

Mellowing down the mood, this Inter-national Daughter’s Day, yours truly is all set to chuckle your funny bones with some crazy, a few awk-ward and other goofy memories of dear daughters with their parents that will sure-ly make you think of your own “Oh Gosh! How did they find out?” kinda stories and feel free to in-dulge in this hearty poetry as penned by our dear reader on this lovely occasion.

CITY FIRST, OPENING A TRUNK OF HAPPY MEMORIES WITH DAUGHTERS FROM DIFFERENT WALKS OF LIFE, WHO SHARED THEIR MOST CHUCKLESOME

Ionce went to a temple with my parents and searching for my chappal, I got lost in the crowd. I started crying very loudly and soon

enough, a policeman took me to the station. I was crying very loudly so, he gave me some choco-lates and ice-cream to keep me entertained. After half an hour, Papa came to pick me up and when the cop asked me if he were my father, I denied on the face because I had not fi nished my ice-cream. It was my favorite thing to eat as a child so, I wanted to relish it, no matter what! Oh god, I denied knowing Papa completely.
