Dept: (0831) 2444089 Fax : 91-0831-2470759

Dept. of Biochemistry proposed to have two papers in final examination. This was discussed extensively in

the meeting.

Benefits:

1. Two papers will give extra wide coverage of the syllabus.

2. It will be easy for the students to read.

3. NITTE University, MUHS and Andhra University also have 2 section papers.

The external members suggested having one paper as per MCI. They also suggested that portion can be

curtailed wherever necessary as per MCI guidelines. They also commented although coverage will be

more in two papers but the clinical application has to be taken into consideration. The time duration for

first year is almost 10 months and number of hours prescribed is less and hence to suggested to keep one

paper.

The externals also suggested that question paper has to be set in the manner that 80% of questions should

be answered by an average student. They also suggested that MCQ should be given from MCQ Bank of

University and should be set for UGs level.

AGENDA 2: Discussion of Measures/Methods aimed for achieving academic and Research Excellence for

both UG and PG

New guidelines of MCI for 200 seats were discussed. The externals emphasize increase the intake of staff

and to maintain 1: 10 ratio to better academic results.

Chairperson asked for any revision, deletions and modifications although the syllabus was recently

revised. The committee decided that all the preclinical departments have to classify their syllabus into

Must Know, Desirable to Know and Good to Know category.

Members suggested Autonomic Nervous System should be covered in the beginning of the course for

better understanding.

Dept. of Physiology suggested to sensitise MBBS Phase I students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the

KLE hospital.

All the members suggested to have applied integrated teaching and three topics were identified to have

vertical and horizontal teaching.

Framing of MCQs are in process. Chairperson suggested to have pre-validation of framed MCQs at

department level before submission of MCQs to the university & to follow the guidelines of KAHER for

MCQ preparations.

Members suggested that 85% of the questions should be from Must Know category and 15% from

Desirable to know for both MCQ and Theory & necessary changes should made in the syllabus.

Dept. of Biochemistry proposed to have one hour of group discussion from their regular three hours

practical session as two hours are sufficient for practical’s in biochemistry.

For Curriculum Revision for PG Courses:

1. Anatomy: Same as earlier and no changes required.

2. Physiology: External members suggested Mammalian Experiments should be done by Post graduate

students and proper protocol and permission should be taken from institutional Animal Ethical

committee.

3. Dept. of Physiology has suggested clinical Neurophysiology experiments, VO2 max. AVRT, HRV,

Clinical examination of Patients to be included as necessary equipment’s are available at the

department.

4. The committee also suggested that first year PGs should compulsorily attend UG classes.

entered in logbook

Basic subjects( (First year subjects) can be added in foundation course, so that students can get

oriented on first year subjects immediately

Few gave suggestion that the foundation course can be stretched for the whole year instead of

completing it in one month

Dr Prashant Vishwanath suggested to take even faculty feedback on foundation course

b) Feedback on curriculum was presented

The external member suggested to analyze the negative feedback of students and later

appropriate revision of curriculum syllabus can be done

Suggestion was given to take feedback of students and faculty both on CBME every year

c) Feedback on Early Clinical Exposure (ECE)

Feedback of students on Early clinical Exposure was presents

Minutes of the Meeting of Board of Studies in Para-clinical Subjects (UG/PG) FOM was convened

on Thursday 10th March 2016 at 10.30 am in BOS Meeting hall at KLE University.

The following members were present.

1. Dr. Sharada C Metgud - Chairperson BOS

2. Dr. Padmaja Walvekar - Member

3. Dr. Anil P. Hogade - Member

4. Dr. Prasanna Jirli - Member

5. Dr. Hema Bannur - Member

6. Dr. Manjula Vagrali - Member

7. Dr. Chandra Metgud - Member

8. Dr. Shashank Purwar - External Member

9. Dr. Prakash Patil - External Member

Chairperson welcomed all the members.

The agenda was taken up for discussion.

ITEM- 1. Confirmation of minutes of the meeting

External member suggested to provide the revised syllabus copy-either hard or soft copy to all

the external members, same was indicated in the minutes of the meeting held on 9th October 2015.

None of the external members have received revised syllabus copy. This has to be informed to be

Director Academic affairs for the needful action.

DCP course in the subject of Pathology

Theory Examination with reference to page 16 section B Microbiology 50 Marks has to be set and is to

be evaluated by the microbiology examiner only. A Separate booklet for Microbiology (Section B) has to

be provided. So that valuation can be separately done by Microbiology examiner, who is appointed for

the practical’s. This has to be informed to COE KLE University. It is suggested by the Board, that

Preliminary examination should be mandatory for internal assessment marks. Best of two should include

preliminary examination and one of the best internal examinations this can go in curriculum as a book of

amendments.

PG Course--

To improve the quality of the dissertation work board suggested that PG’s should write for grants and

conduct good quality research.

Posting of the PGs to Hi-tech laboratory has been implemented in the subject of microbiology.

Student feedback form.-

Student feedback forms were received by the individual department and distributed to

students. It was suggested by the members that Q-10, add option as

No Suggestion/No Changes. They have been analysed by department staff. Page…2..

ITEM-2 Incorporation of “Biostatistics” subject in under graduate course.

After detailed discussion all the committee members observed and felt that the syllabus

suggested in the “Biostatistics” for the course is already covered in the subject of Community medicine

for MBBS Course 40hrs (Theory-34 and Practical 6hrs).

Questions are also asked in the annual university examination Paper-I ( 30 out of 80 Marks i.e 40%)

Hence it is recommended that there need not be separate subject for UG All the members felt, first of all

MBBS course has been overloaded.

For PG course.

Revision of ( UG course syllabus) syllabus for 5 hours and workshop of 3 days is sufficient.

ITEM No 3.Discussion on the results of the previous examination.
