ASSOCHAM, the century old organisation, has in its fold more than 250

Chambers and Trade Associations, and serving more than 4.5 lakh

industry members from all over the Nation. It has witnessed upswings

as well as upheavals of Indian Economy, and contributed signicantly

by playing a catalytic role in shaping up the Education, Sustainability,

Trade, Commerce and Industrial environment of the country.

Today, ASSOCHAM has emerged as the fountainhead of Knowledge for

Indian industry, which is all set to redene the dynamics of growth and

development in the technology driven cyber age of ‘Knowledge Based

Economy’. ASSOCHAM is seen as a forceful, proactive, forward

looking institution equipping itself to meet the aspirations of corporate

India in the new world of business. ASSOCHAM is working towards

creating a conducive environment of India business to compete

globally. ASSOCHAM derives its strength from its Promoter Chambers

and other Industry/Regional Chambers/Associations spread all over the

country. It was established in 1920 by promoter Chambers, representing

all regions of India.

ASSOCHAM National Council on Education works hand in hand

with the Government and related depar tments for extending the

help in making policies for the Education Sector. It works with the

educational institutions, educationists and stakeholders to take

up their issues, chal lenges and recommendations to the

concerned agencies for quick and meaningful resolution. It also

conducts conferences, workshops, roundtable meet ings,

trainings and expo at regular intervals on current issues and seek

viewpoints of the Industry and stakeholders for the better

outcomes in the interest of ALL.

ABOUT ASSOCHAM

“By 2030, India is set to have the largest working-age population in the world. Not only

do they need literacy but they need both job and life skills. The education system

needed a greater inow of nance to attract talented teachers, innovate and build

better labs.” said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget 2020 speech.

India’s population, long considered a challenge, has turned into a desirable

demographic dividend. A demographic dividend is not just people; it is skilled,

educated or employed people. The 3Es - Education, Entrepreneurship and

Employability has been the focus of the present government and as the country is

poised to grow as one of the leading knowledge economies, the 3Es will remain

priorities for the Government.

We are facing unprecedented challenges – social, economic and environmental –

driven by accelerating globalization and a faster rate of technological developments.

At the same time, those forces are providing us with new opportunities for human

advancement. The children entering education in 2022 will be young adults in 2030.

Educational Institutions can prepare them for Entrepreneurship and skills that have not

yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented, to solve problems

that have not yet been anticipated. Education can equip learners with agency and a

sense of purpose, and the competencies they need, to shape their own lives and

contribute to the lives of others.

COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the education sector, accelerating the

shift to digital-learning models as educational institutes remain closed in the wake

of virus outbreak. The country spent only 3.1% of its GDP on Education in 2019-20

against the 6% recommended by every national policy since 1968. NEP 2020

reafrms the recommendation of increasing public investment on education to 6%

of GDP.

Their motivation will be more than getting a good job and a high income; they will also

need to care about the well-being of their friends and families, their communities and

the planet. Education can equip learners with agency and a sense of purpose, and the

competencies they need, to shape their own lives and contribute to the lives of others.

The Union Budget share on education has indeed increased over the years, but it still

needs a lot of improvement to match the needs – ensuring inclusiveness, adding

infrastructure and most importantly, improving the quality of education. The New

Education Policy 2020 has already instilled a lot of hopes among all stakeholders in

the education sector for a turnaround. It is necessary that both Budget 202 and 2

policy reforms are in sync with the changing needs of globalization, urbanization and

digitalization. There is a need to skill professionals and lay thrust on emerging

technologies to prepare the burgeoning Indian workforce for Industry 4.0.

There have been measures towards improving the quality of education, focus on skill

development, improving teaching and research outcomes, emphasis on job creation,

and creating an ease of business environment to promote entrepreneurship.

Education, Employability and Entrepreneurship will remain priorities for the

Government. At this juncture, it is important to discuss the expectations of all

stakeholders with special focus on allocation of funds, new initiatives, improving the

gender parity index, reaching the untapped areas and improving the quality of lives of

the people of the country.

In the light of above and to nd out how best to do so, ASSOCHAM is organising th15 International Education Leadership & Skill Development Summit 2022.
