Smt. Priya SethiHon'ble Minister of State for Education,

Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture,

Floriculture and Parks .

It is momentous that the Department of Higher Education is bringing out the maiden issue of the

news magazine, EduPLUS : Emerging Trends. I on behalf of Higher Education, extend my warm

greetings to the readers on the occasion.

We are witnessing an intersection of great challenge and opportunity in the present scenario. Teacher is

no longer a sage on the stage, but a guide on the side who plays a pivotal role in shaping the character

and mindset of the young learners. Today, in the competitive era of privatization and globalization, I

envisage and am confident that this news magazine along with being informative, will also provide a

platform to further groom, nourish and nurture our students in exhibiting their creative talent and also

sharing their mutual experiences.

I congratulate the Editorial team for their efforts in the publication of this magazine.

From Commissioner/Secretary's Desk

Department of Higher Education, J&K is charged with responsibility to impart, regulate and

disseminate higher education above 10+2 level across the state. The Department extends such facilities

by running existing 97 Government Degree Colleges and opening new degree colleges and universities

like recently opened Cluster universities of Srinagar and Jammu and regulates functioning of existing 208

and new private colleges in the State. The Department also facilitates/promotes opening and

establishment of National Level Institutions like Central Universities of Jammu/Kashmir, Indian Institute

of Technology, Jammu, Indian Institute of Management, Jammu and Indian Institute of Mass

Communication , Jammu which were recently established in the State.

Besides opening of new colleges, we are focused on completion/consolidation of existing

subjects, business – start-ups model, adding value prestige to traditional jobs and introduction of job

oriented courses in colleges.

We are pleased to present first edition of EduPLUS: Emerging Trends, a quarterly news

magazine being published by Higher Education Department, J&K. It is our endeavor to document various

curricular /co-curricular activities carried out in our college campuses on quarterly basis, to generate

healthy competition amongst such institutions to promote efficiency /excellence in the field of Higher

Education in Jammu and Kashmir State.

acquires much significance as a “popular 'voice” for all institutions of higher learning and unifying platform

for exchange of ideas / deliberations amongst faculty and students in J&K.

EduPLUS is expected to provide a window to keep all stake holders of various Higher Education

institutions to stay connected through numerous initiatives/programs carried out by our degree colleges.

This magazine is also an attempt to document all endeavors adopted by this Department for shaping

future of the educated youth of our state as we are committed to improving all institutions of higher

ACADEMIC UPDATE Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.

-Aristotle

Education is a process of waking up to life thereby nurturing an individual towards his/her harmonious development of physical, mental, moral and social faculties. Education sets the foundations and the value system for the students as they prepare to set out into the world to carve their future. A good education is constructive in nature, aiming to improve the mind and intellect and consequently the human race. It is a vital pre-requisite for making the world a better place.
