“Let us develop An Attitude of Gratitude This Year, And Give Thanks For Everything That Happens To You, Knowing That Every Step Forward Is A Step Towards Achieving Something Bigger And Better Than Your

Current Situation.” It's time to bid 2017 a goodbye and let the hope for a bright new year set in. As every year ends, people spend time evaluating the time gone by and make plans for the year to come. The New Year brings with it the hope and promise to accomplish all that one couldn’t do in the past year, whether it is improving your skills or going on new adventures, the New Year gives one another brand new chance. You totally don’t want to think about it right now, but finals are just around the corner. That means you can add studying for them to your already vast to-do list. Preparing for an exam can be stressful and time-consuming, but it doesn't have to be. There’s no need to stress out or cram. By doing simple things before time, you can ensure that you are confident and ready for anything that comes up during the test. So, knowing how to prepare properly for finals is the key to avoid stress and acing every exam. We celebrated Republic Day with our staff, students and parents by hoisting the National Flag and singing the National Anthem. Cultural activities were held and the gathering was treated with some spectacular musical fest. We celebrated ECHO-MEET, 2018 on 27 January, 2018 at Gajera Global School. In it, we hosted Fine Arts and Performing Arts competition. Students from different institutions of Surat participated in it. All the participants were awarded Sunita Maker space T-shirt and a Certificate of participation. The purpose of this event is to spread “Sustainability” among young minds and explore creativity and vibrant ideas hidden in them. The gathering gave us hope that young generation would like to focus and ensure healthy atmosphere with wealthy spirit.

"Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic

parents with high expectations"

Today, the role of a school is not only to pursue academic excellence but also to motivate and empower its

students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and productive members of an ever-changing global society.

At school, we provide an atmosphere to our students for multifaceted development, where children are

encouraged to channelize their potential in the pursuit of excellence. This can only be possible in a holistic,

student-centric environment. The talents, skills, and abilities of each student need to be identified, nurtured

and encouraged so that they are able to reach greater heights. Students need to be provided with a platform

to think, express, and exhibit their skills. It is necessary to empower them to negotiate several issues that

confront them, with the teacher being a facilitator.

The school is striving hard to make the best possible efforts to inculcate strong values combining with

academics and extra-curricular activities in the children. Converting every individual into a self-reliant and

independent citizen, the school provides an amalgam of scholastic and co-scholastic activities.

At Gajera, our approaches to learning are child-centric encouraging Activity-based learning and inculcating a

scientific temper and a spirit of free inquiry. In our curriculum, the student is the primary focus and each child

is involved in the learning process. We are constantly improving our teaching methodology so that it turns

learning into the combination of classroom study, research, and scientific discovery.

Leadership and Children

Leadership instills confidence, and helps children solve problems creatively, work in a team, and work collaboratively with others.

Why leadership?

Leadership skills allow children to have control of their lives and the ability to make things happen. Leadership instills confidence, and helps children solve problems creatively, work in a team, and work collaboratively with others. Leadership gives children many opportunities to develop responsibility.

While you may not find the word leadership in the early learning standards, many states have statements related to leadership in their standards in the social-emotional section. Key phrases that relate to leadership are “self-confidence”, “problem solving”, “pro-social,” and “makes independent decisions and choices.” For example, in Pennsylvania’s Pre-Kindergarten Early Learning Standards for social and emotional development skills for children include “Know and state independent thoughts and feelings” and “Participate in new experiences with confidence and independence”.

Are leaders born or made?

There is some debate whether some children are “born leaders” or they “learn to be” leaders. All children have the potential to develop leadership skills. Leadership development can be a lifelong process. As adults, we can teach the skills necessary for children to take on leadership roles now and in the future. Here are some ways that you can help children develop leadership skills:

COVER STORY

SHREE H.J. GAJERA ENG.MED. PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL - UTRAN | JANUARY -2018 6

Model leadership behavior to children. Children learn from seeing what others do. Tell the child what you are doing and why you are doing it.

Teach children how to see things from another’s point of view. Good communication is a key component to being an effective leader. Teach children how to listen carefully and how to respond to others in a calm and respectful way.

Help children build self-confidence. Give children opportunities to do a good job and offer praise when appropriate. You might say, “I am so proud of you that you volunteered to be the leader of the ‘toy clean up’ team in your classroom. It is a big job to make sure all your classmates are doing their part.”

Find ways to create problem solving situations. Children can learn how to solve their own problems. Allow children to start making small decisions such as which activity they want to participate in and Then give them more opportunities to make decisions as they learn the concepts of responsibility and consequences of making a decision.

Give children the opportunity to take leadership roles in the classroom .Create leadership situations in the form of classroom jobs. Children can lead by becoming the classroom “greeter”, “paper/supply manager”, “line leader,” or “attendance taker”. Teachers should inform children of the responsibilities of each classroom job and guide them as they take on that leadership role. Children should have the opportunity to try various leadership jobs within the classroom

Teach children how to work with others in a team situation. Group projects or sports activities are ways for children to work on a team.

Assist children to develop a plan or strategy to address a problem or situation. Children, as well as adults, shy away from leadership tasks because they feel overwhelmed. Show children how to break tasks into workable ways to get the job done.

Encourage children to pursue things that interest them. They may develop a passion for it and feel comfortable and later take on a leadership role.

Encourage parents to look for leadership opportunities for children. Leadership opportunities can be in your child care program or another program at a school, church, community or club. Children can also take a leadership role in a family event.

Encourage communication and action. Leadership involves speaking up or taking action. You can encourage children’s leadership abilities by suggesting projects or identifying problems that may be important to them and helping them to come up with suggestions for actions and possible solutions.

“Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate.”

Importance of Education

Education is the foundation of the development. It helps to develop a person, a society and a nation. Without

education our life is incomplete. Education enlightens one’s life. It is the third eye of a man. The third eye can

see the objects which the two eyes cannot see. It changes the dark into light.

Education is the backbone of the development. It helps to carry our different developmental activities. With

the help of education, a person can be a better human being. It can make one’s life happy and satisfied. It can

uplift the standard of people. It is an important part of every person. An educated man can live quality life

whereas an uneducated man is compelled to pass miserable life. If people are educated, they can abolish all

the bad practices of a society and can bring in all the good practices. Education develops a society. If all the

societies of a country are developed then it is sure that the country itself will be developed.

Without education a human being remains incomplete. If a man is not educated, he cannot live life fully. An

uneducated person is not clear about what he wants to achieve in his life. He cannot make correct decisions.

He is always confused regarding what to do and what not to do.

Education is the essence of our life. To do any kind of the work, education is the most. Education makes

every thing so much easier and clear. It helps us to choose the right path. Education makes us aware about

the ongoing problems and threats. It helps us protect from doing the wrong thing. Hence, education is the

most important part of our lives and everybody must have right to education.

Importance of Communication Skills for Students:

A student starts learning how to communicate right at home, but learning at school is a different ball game

altogether.

At school, the student learns how to address issues of peers and how to respond keeping the others in mind.

It is important that a student works towards developing communication skills as it will help them in the long

run.

Student life is a foundation and hence, how we communicate in student life will define how we communicate

professionally. You need to impart communication through reading, presentation skills, listening, writing and

oral communication.

1. Initial Emphasis on reading is very important:

One needs to be a good reader to develop your communication skills. With reading a student can enrich their

vocabulary and knowledge. They can communicate in all the topics because of the knowledge base that has

been developed with the reading.

Being a reader is a stepping stone to become a good orator in the future. You can read books, newspapers,

magazines, anything that you find interesting.

Teacher’s Corner

SHREE H.J. GAJERA ENG.MED. PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL - UTRAN | JANUARY -2018 34

2. Emphasise on writing to communicate well with words:

It is important to be a good reader but it is equally important to be a good writer. By good write, it does not

mean that you can write books and articles on any topic.

A well-written communication skill is the one where the words express the right tone and put the idea across

effectively. A written communication should not be confusing, it can send out wrong information and cause

issues.

A written communication can be used as evidence, and hence it is important that a student knows what to

write and how to write effectively.

3. Emphasize on presentation and speeches:

Many students have issues in presenting their ideas or project. This could be due to stage fear, less

confidence, nervousness and any other factor.

It is important that as a student you participate in as many presentational and speech based activity to get

the fear out and master the art.

In the near future presentation and speeches will become an integral part of your professional career and

you need to be comfortable with it. So, practice as much as you can, on your presentation and speech skills.

4. Emphasize on Listening skills:

You should have the patience and ability to listen to others and register their conversation. Conversation is

not just about the ability to speak, it is about the communication ability to listen also.

5. Master the techniques that can help in developing the skills:

As a student, you should not fear away or run away from a conversation. Be it a school activity or just a group

of friends; put your ideas across with no fear. The more you step back, the more issues you will have in future

to express yourself.
