A Note from theCreative Director
I’d like to start by thanking you for your continued support of the King’s Theatre. Last year proved a huge success and I loved welcoming audiences and receiving feedback on how we improve the theatre and its season even further.
We’re really excited about the next era for the King’s Theatre and following a complete technical refurbishment, new box office area, outstanding new signage and a fresh coat of paint we can’t wait to launch this year’s collection of work.
We’ve lined up a great season for you, boasting four in-house productions that showcase the excellent calibre of Creative Arts training we deliver here at QE. We’re also proud to be working with some of the best companies from around the country and are delighted to welcome back Box Tale Soup with their adaptation of ‘Little Grimm Tales’.
On top of this we are welcoming Heartbreak Productions to the beautiful estate for the first time with a new version of David Walliams’ ‘Mr Stink’ and Pendle Productions with a visiting pantomime in December. We also have an exciting line up of one-night spectaculars for you, including hilarious comedy, great music and some fantastic family-friendly films.
As always, tickets can be booked online by following the links on our website: kingstheatreqe.org. The on-site box office is situated opposite Main Reception and is open Monday-Friday 1pm-2pm
So, take a look through the following pages and we hope to see you at the theatre soon.

We’re excited to announce the launch of our brand new KS2 Choral Speaking Competition, which hopes to build community cohesion by bringing together schools and performers from across the local area.
We’re seeking entries from any local KS2 groups who would like to join our fun and friendly festival. The event aims to help children increase their enjoyment of poetry, develop their self-confi-dence and their capacity to speak in public.
KS2 groups will be asked to perform a poem, whether new, old, serious or humorous and will be invited to the King’s Theatre on February 6th to rehearse on stage before per-forming in the evening in front of our judging panel and a live audience.
Sponsored by Knaresborough Rotary Club and featuring a guest panelist from the performance industry, for some children this will be their first time on a professional stage and we are thrilled to extend the invitation to the schools of the area.

We want to work with as many Year 6 groups in the area as possible to share and celebrate everything Shakespeare.
Studying Shakespeare helps young people develop a fearlessness, a curiosity for literature and the arts and the desire to succeed in their education. Performing on a pro-fessional stage encourages confi-dence, teamwork and invaluable communication and life skills.
We’re inviting interested groups to bring their short adaptations, scene selections or creative work surrounding the Bard to the King’s Theatre for a workshop with a professional classical actor, a dress rehearsal on stage and then to return in the evening for a sharing in front of a live audience.
We can also offer some workshops throughout the Autumn and Spring delivered by a professional actor in schools to assist in the creation of a piece for the event.
Interested groups should contact [email protected] for further information.

The King’s Academy for Performing Arts is held every Saturday in term time.Sessions run from 10am-12pm in The King’s Theatre and Phoenix Centre at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate.
Students can expect to develop skills in all areas of the performing arts industry and sessions are led by industry professionals. Each year students also rehearse and perform a full-length play or
musical in June and alongside a welcome audience of friends and family, we also utilise the performance to enter students for Rock School Examinations in Musical Theatre thus gaining a qualification each academic year. The certificates are also extremely useful when considering UCAS applications in later years.
This year students will focus their skill development in improvisation, creating
a character, script work, singing, comedy, stage combat and clowning. The students will also work on scenes from television which will be filmed and edited together.
Anyone aged between 6 and 18 is welcome to attend the classes and can book a free trial class by emailing [email protected].
