16th & 17th December 2016 at college premises. The first day programme was inaugurated by Dr.Tamizhachi Thangapandian. In her address she emphasized that our roots lie in our culture and tradition, and encouraged the students to exhibit their talents in every way possible. The second day programme was inaugurated by Mr.R.Jayachandran, TV Artist and Comedian. The students showcased their true spirit in cultural events like Ad Mad, Solo Singing, Pattu Enna Pattu, Folk Dance. To add further spice to this

GUINNESS RECORD ATTEMPT

VIGNESH KUMAR V.T., student of III year Physics, Arul Anandar College attempted a Guinness Record of “Greatest Distance Cycled (without holding)“ on 09.02.2017 in the college grounds. He successfully completed the attempt by cycling a distance of 122 km nonstop for 6:53:23 hours. The previous record in the similar category is held by Mr. Eric of USA who cycled (without holding) a distance of 37.5km in one hour in 2009. According to Mr. V.T. Vignesh Kumar he attempted this record to create awareness among the students and general public on the issue of ‘Global Warming’. He said that this attempt would motivate people to use bicycles and less use of fuel based vehicles. Mr. Solai E. Raja, Vice President, TN Olympic Association congratulated Vignesh Kumar on atempting this Guinness record. Mr. S.Murugan, NIS, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, participated in this programme. Mr. T.R.Balaji, Mr.N.Sivakumar, Ms.B. Jegajothi and Ms.Sarojini of Sports Authority of TN provided the technical support for the programme. Members of the College Management Rev. Dr. K.Amal SJ, Rector, Rev. Dr. Albert William SJ, Secretary and Rev. Dr. Basil Xavier SJ felicitated on the occasion. The college authorities are awaiting the formal recognition of the record from the Guinness Records authorities. Dr. S.P. Malar Kannan and Dr.J.Vanitha coordinated the event.

HIGHLIGHTS ONE DAY UGC SPONSORED SEMINAR ON “DEMONETISATION : ISSUES AND IMPLICATIONS”

One Day UGC Sponsored Seminar on “Demonetisation : Issues and Implications” was organized by the Department of Economics, Arul Anandar College on 14th December 2016. The Chief Guest Sri.S.Peter Alphonse, Former M.P. and M.L.A spoke on the above. He said that our Prime Minister

has done what other countries have not done. That is what is called Demonetisation. He also stated that demonetization is mainly to curb Black Money, counter feet money and to arrest the use of Black Money by terrorist. The total value of the currency demonetized during British period was only Rs.45 crores which made no harm to the public. But now almost everybody got affected. He cited with many examples to make the audience understand the concept, issues and its implications.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON “RECENT ADVANCEMENTS IN COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY”

The Department of Computer Science and Applications organized a One Day International Seminar on Recent Advancements in Computer Technology on 12th January 2017. The inaugural address was delivered by the resource person Dr.Paul Manuel, Professor, Department of Information Science, Kuwait University, Kuwait. The resource person discussed on various social research issues in Computing, research tools and areas in Computing Technologies. In the technical session he explained about private data commercialization in social networks. He demonstrated through several social networks issues. Dr.I.Devanan, Deputy Principal delivered the Valedictory address.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ‘HURDLES TO HORIZON – EMERGING TRENDS IN FOOD TECHNOLOGY’

A one day UGC sponsored National Seminar on Hurdles to Horizon – Emerging trends in Food Technology was organized in the Department of Food Science and Technology on 28th January 2017. Mr.D.Selvendran, MD Spirulina Nutritech Foundation was the Chief Guest. Proceeding of the seminar was released in the form of CD in the inauguration. The Seminar was graced by speakers such as Ms. P.Vandarkuzhali, Dietician, Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital and Post Graduate Institute, Puducherry, Er. Dayanand Peter, Assistant Professor, Department Food Processing and Engineering, Karunya University, Coimbatore and Dr. Cissie Theeblyn David, Assistant Professor, Food Science and Nutrition, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Madurai. A review on cut vegetable technology and Millets for Food and Nutritional Security were discussed in the seminar. The valediction was graced by Mr.Anburajan, Managing Director, ARK Biscuits, Madurai and certificates were awarded to the winners of poster presentation and participants.

NATIONAL SCIENCE MELA-2017

The Department of Physics organized National Science Mela on the theme Science and technology in the promotion of sustainable tourism and development, between 27th -29th January 2017 in Arul Anandar college. Nearly 318 models were exhibited by various schools and colleges. About 3000 college students and 500 school children witnessed the exhibition. In the inaugural function Dr. Antony Paul Gnanasekar, Department of History, Arul Anandar College delivered the Chief Guest’s address on popular scientists and how they achieved their scientific discoveries and inventions. Followed by this inaugural function, school children and our college students

witnessed the exhibition. Their valuable suggestions and feedback were obtained. Subsequently, free medical check-up with the help of Apollo hospital Madurai was provided for all the students, parents, teachers, and staff. Dr. M.A.Jothi Rajan was the PI of this project. TDT Division of DST, New Delhi was the sponsor for this National Science Mela continuously for the sixth time (Starting from 2010).

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INNOVATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN GLOBAL BUSINESS

The Department of Commerce organised a National Conference on Innovation and Implementation of Information Technology in Global Business on 7th February 2017. Mr.M. Senthil Kumar, Research Engineer, Google Consultant, Bangalore shared valuable and application oriented thoughts to the students on the topic, “Innovative Information & Security Systems”. Mr. R. Senthil, Faculty, Elysium Academy Private Limited, Madurai, presented the importance & impact of Cyber Crimes in the Business and the remedy for tackling and overcoming these problems. Mr.S. Venkatesh, Faculty, Elysium Academy Private Limited, Madurai, suggested thoughtful ideas regarding Communication Technology. The Conference ended by proposing vote of thanks.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE - NSLECM 2017

The Department of Physics organized a National Level Conference on Nano Science and Nano Technology in the Livelihood Enhancement of Common Man (NSLECM-2017), on 8th & 9th February 2017 in Arul Anandar College. Dr. I. Kulandaisamy, Head welcomed the gathering. In the Inaugural function Dr. C.E. Sooriamoorthi, Emeritus Professor (Rtd.), MKU, Madurai, delivered the inaugural address on “Clean Energy using Nano particles”. After this inaugural function, six technical sessions were conducted during these two days, and 60 papers were presented by various college faculties and scholars. Dr K. Daniel Chellappa, Senior Scientist, BARC, Mumbai, delivered the presidential address in valediction, and he motivated the students and junior staff members to pursue their research keeping in mind the rural common man with the help of the innovations of Indian Intelligence. Dr. Michael Anjello Jothi Rajan was the convener of this conference. This conference was supported by TDT Division of DST, New Delhi and TNSTC, Chennai.

Foot Ball Tournament

Ninth State level Inter-University and Inter-Collegiate Football tournament (Rev.Fr.I.Prince SJ memorial) was held in Arul Anandar College,

Karumathur, Madurai from 8th to 10th February, 2017. Many Colleges have participated in the event. The Chief Guest of this tournament Mr. Solai M. Raja, the Vice President of Tamilnadu Olympic association and President of Tamilnadu Kabaddi Association had inaugurated the football tournament. This tournament was conducted on knock-out method. St. Joseph’s college, Trichy and Alagappa University, Karaikudi were selected for final match. St. Joseph’s College won the final match. The organizing secretary cum Asst. Professor of Physical Education Mr. Sivanandaprabu delivered the Vote of thanks.

STATE LEVEL SEMINAR ON “MILLETS- A GOLD COIN”

The Department of Rural Development Science organized A State Level Seminar on Millets – A Gold Coin on 10th February 2017. The seminar was aimed at dissemination of improved agro techniques in millets cultivation, the recent cultivation practices, varieties and their importance. Dr.S.Marimuthu, the resource person spoke on Production of value added products using millets along with their nutritive value. The marketing resource person Dr.V.Balamurugan explained the avenues in marketing of millets and their produce and management of problems encountered by a millet entrepreneur.

The Department of the Mathematics organized one-day National Conference on Recent Advances in Pure and Applied Mathematics on 13th Feb. 2017. This conference served as a research platform for M.Phil and Ph.D scholars. The inaugural address was given by Dr.Padi.Thirupathi Rao, Head, Department of Statistics, Ramanujan School of Mathematical Science, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. The chief guest delivered a delightful talk on Current need of Mathematical Modeling on Contemporary Research in which he focused on the state-of-the-art of the protocol of modeling techniques. The proceeding of the conference was released by him. The resource person Dr.R.Roopkumar, Associate Professor of Mathematics, Central University of Tamil Nadu, presented an excellent lecture on “Quaternions” in which he elucidated the state of the art of the topic in present scenario.

Dr.A.Wilson Baskar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Saraswathi Narayanan College, Perungudi, Madurai, delivered a lecture on Signed Graphs. The students were highly motivated by the lectures of the resource persons.

WORKSHOP ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES PRESERVATION

The Department of Rural Development Science conducted Workshop on Fruits and Vegetables Preservation from 14th to 16th February 2017. The workshop aimed at technically equipping the II B.Sc RDS students in various preservation techniques. Vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, raw mango, carrot, beans and chilles were used for pickles preparation. The techniques were demonstrated by

the resource person Mr.M.Mariappan followed by the hands on training for the students. Preservation of fruits namely grapes, banana, pineapple apple orange and guava were demonstrated by the expert. The same preparation was done by the students in the afternoon session. The aim of the workshop was to empower students with entrepreneur skills of fruits and vegetable preservation.

RURAL SPORTS MEET

The Department of Physical Education, Arul Anandar College, Karumathur organized 13th Rural Sports Meet on 15th February, 2017. Dr. K. Chandrasekeran, Professor and Head, Department of Physical Education, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was the Chief Guest of inaugural function. Various athletics as well as games were organised for rural school boys and girls. In the game Kabaddi, Kaluvathevar Matric Hr. Sec. School, Chekkanurani secured winner position and Fatima Convent High School, Chellampatti secured runner-up. In Volleyball, Keran Matric Hr. Sec. School, Chekkanurani secured winner and St.Claret’s Hr. Sec. School, Karumathur secured runner-up. The Chief Guest distributed prizes to the winners.

WORKSHOP ON ACTING AND SCRIPTING

The Department of English organized a One Day Workshop on Acting and Scripting on 18th February 2017 with the aim to develop the theatrical skills of the students and further to help them unearth their hidden flair for acting and scripting. Nearly 80 budding student artists participated in the Workshop with an inordinate zeal and got enlightened of various techniques and intricacies in the domain of theatre

in particular in the fields of acting and scripting. Dr. T.Dharmaraj, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Folklore and Cultural Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and Mr.R. Anantha Kumar, Acting Trainer, National School of Drama, Bangalore were the resource persons. During the workshop, the participants were made to shed their inhibitions and enthused to unlock their theatrical skills. The program by and large was of great value and use to the students as it had ignited in them the spark for acting and imparted in them the different nuances pertaining acting and scripting. Ms. A. Sahaya Josephine Mary, Assistant Professor of English was the convener of this One Day Workshop.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FUTURE RESEARCH PERSPECTIVES IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

A two day National Conference was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Applications on Future Research Perspectives in Computer Science and Information Technology on 21st and 22nd February 2017. Mr. Ayerajothi Ramasamy, Managing Partner, Strategy Investment Management

Consulting Ltd, Singapore, motivated the participants with his vast pool of knowledge and experience.

The technical session was handled by Dr. S. Kumar Chandar, Associate Professor, Christ University, Bangalore. His generous sharing of knowledge on Artificial Intelligence helped the audience. The next technical session by Dr. Jeyasimman, Assistant Professor, Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, Trichy was on Data Mining. A total of 47 research articles were published in the Conference Proceeding with ISBN where, 13 articles were presented during the paper reading session. A two-day seminar was successfully ended with vote of thanks by the convener Dr.S.A.Amala Nirmal Doss.

THEATRE FEST

The Department of English organized its ninth edition of Theatre Fest, an inter departmental drama competition on 22nd February 2017. The event had been conceived to unlock the hidden theatrical potentials of the students and in particular to induce in them a fervour for English language. Dr.S.Saira Banu, Associate Professor, Research Department of English, Fatima College, Madurai and Mr. G. Kannaiyan, Assistant Professor of English, St. Joseph’s College, Trichirapalli were the Special Invitees. In their remarks, they offered valuable suggestions like space management in theatre, adapting one’s appearance with costume and makeup, using of relevant and essential stage properties. They also highly commended the initiative launched by the Department and applauded the performance of the dramatic personae. Students from seven departments showcased their multi-skills of theatre arts and exhibited their proficiency in communication

besides entertaining the audience with their expert performances choosing an array of themes. The first, second and third prizes were bagged by the students of Mathematics, Rural Development Science and Physics respectively.

NATIONAL LEVEL CONFERENCE ON IMPACT OF DIGITALIZATION IN FUTURE

The Department of Information Technology and Management organized a One Day National Level Conference on Impact of Digitalization in Future on 3rd March 2017 Dr. K. Balasubramanian Asst. Professor, Department of Computer Applications, P.S.N.A College of Engineering –Dindigul has given Keynote address on “ Impact of Digitalization in Future”. First Technical session was handled by Dr. A. John Sanjeev Kuamr, Asst. professor, Department of Computer Applications, Thiagarajar College of Engineering–Madurai on the topic “Digitalization Toady & Tomorrow”. Second Technical session was handled by Mr. S. IIayaraja, Asst. Professor, Department of Management Studies, Madurai KamarajUniversity, Madurai, on the topic “Challenges of Digital World Entrepreneurs”. Third Technical Session was handled by Mr. Ajun Franklin (UK) Director –SVC JJ Solution Pvt. NATIONAL SEMINAR ON PEOPLE’S RELIGIOUS CULTURAL CONSCIOUSNESS AND IDENTITY FOR SOLIDARITY

The Department of Philosophy, organized a National Seminar on People’s Religious Cultural Consciousness and Identity for Solidarity on 6th

& 7thMarch 2017. The staff and student from the department of Philosophy and various departments participated and benefited. Dr. S. Seshuraja, Head welcomed, Rev. Dr Anandam, Director of Pastoral Centre, Madurai, the chief Guest of the day and the resource persons from various institutions. Dr. S. Lourdunathan, Associate Professor was the convenor.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

International Women’s Day was celebrated in Arul Anandar College, Karumathur on 8th March. Ms Thilaga Bama, an acclaimed Tamil Poet and Novelist delivered a keynote address on the need for rural women empowerment and emancipation in all spheres of life. She encouraged the students to actively involve themselves in the women related issues. As part of the Women’s Day Celebrations, an array of competitions were conducted. The chief guest gave away the prizes and the certificates to the winners. Convener of the programme proposed the vote of thanks.

Anandar College, conducted a Two day Workshop on Social Entrepreneurship – Building Entrepreneurs Today (BET6) on 9th & 10th March 2017 as part of our academic programme to motivate the young business students towards the entrepreneurial attitude. Dr.M.Mariappan, Director, Manoj Consultancy, Madurai was the resources person. He stated that the role played by the young budding entrepreneurs are highly commendable in the business world. He focused on the overall development of the young entrepreneurs by highlighting successful entrepreneurial biographies, shaping of positive attitudes, power of decision making and successful formula of starting a business venture. He also stressed that the food industry can be developed with minimum investment. In view of this, the organisers arranged six different training programmes namely squash drink making, reservation of fruits and vegetables, organic terrace gardening, healthy cooki-Culinary programme, Craft work and Silk thread jewellery making for the students. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks.

National Seminar on Literature of the Exiles: Cultural Depletion and Cultural Mix.

The Department of English Literature, Arul Anandar College, conducted One-day National Seminar on Literature of the Exiles: Cultural Depletion and Cultural Mix on 13th March 2017, at the college premises. Key note address was proposed by P. Kannan, Professor and Chairman, Department of PG Studies and Research in English, Karnataka State Women’s University, Vijayapur, Karnataka. He elaborately dealt with the theme of the seminar. The Resource person for the first plenary session was Dr. S. Samuel Rufus, Associate Professor of English, Madras Christian College, Chennai. He spoke on the topic “The Aura of Liminal Space in Contemporary Exilic Literature.” Dr. V. Christopher Ramesh, Assistant Professor of English, Govt. Arts College, Melur, enumerated on the topic “Diaspora Literature: The Spatial, Temporal, Spiritual and Aesthetic Dimensions of Life in Exile.” Dr. S. Jesurajan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, Arul Anandar College discussed on the topic “Eclectic and Diverse Cultural Identities of the Exiles”. Several participants presented papers in the seminar.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES Research

Ms.Veera Parameswari N, Assistant Professor of Physical Education successfully defended Ph.D thesis in the discipline of Physical Education at the Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai on 21st December 2016. Title: Effect of Physical Exercises and Suryanamaskar Practices on Selected Health Related Physical Fitness Components Physiological and Biochemical Parameters among College Women.

Dr.Murali N, Associate Professor of Economics was the Research Supervisor for Mr.R.Ponnuram (Reg. No. P9623). The Public Vivo-voce Examination was held on 15th February 2016 at Arul Anandar College in accordance with the regulation for the award of the doctoral degree in Physics.

Mr.Deva Prince S.A, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry has registered for his Doctoral Research in Chemistry under the supervision of Dr.J.Annaraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Material Sciences, School of Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai on 7th February 2017.

The Department of Physics organised a guest lecture on “Smart materials and sensors” for which our alumnus Dr.Suresh Kaluvan, Adjunct Faculty, University of North Texas, USA on 12th January 2017 was the resource person.

SESHAT-2017, an Inter-collegiate Lit Fest was conducted for the first time on 16th February 2017. The students of different colleges from all over the state participated and the response to the programme was overwhelming. Dr, Muthu Samy, Assistant Proffesor of VHNSN College Dr.Balamurugan, Assistant professor,SVN College, and Rev. Fr.Godwin Rufus,AAC were the judges of this event. The winner of the competition was Jamal Mohammad College, Trichy.

The final year students of Chemistry went on an industrial visit to Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant, Sterlite Copper and SPIC (Tuticorin) from 16th to 18th February, 2017. The Department of Business Administration organised a Guest Lecture on “Tips and Tricks of Research Methodology” on 21st February 2016.

The Department of English organised an inter-departmental annual English drama competition “Theatre Fest 2016-2017” on 22nd February 2017. This event was conducted to motivate and encourage the dramatic skills of the students. A group of amateur artists from seven departments staged seven different plays. The departments of Commerce English Literature, and BBA secured the first, second and third places.

The Department of Physics of Arul Anandar College organized one day Inter-Collegiate Meet, PHYSAAC-17 on 28th February 2017. In the inaugural function alumnus Fr Viji Bose who initiated a helping scheme for the poor students and Mr. V.T. Vignesh Kumar, III year Physics student attempted a Guinness record of 122 km cycled, were honoured. Dr. V. Vasu, Associate Professor, School of Physics, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai gave the keynote address. He also motivated the students and the staff to concentrate on research. He also took a technical session on “Semiconductor and its Applications”. The American College, Madurai got the first place and won the over-all shield and the second place was won by Vivekananda College, Madurai

The Department of Mathematics organised an Educational Tour to Kerala for all the final year UG & PG students on 2nd & 3rd March 2017. One Hundred and fifteen students and five staff participated in the programme. The students visited many historical places and archaeological museums.

The department of Food Science & Technology organised one week Workshop on Food Presentation organised with Food and Nutrition Board of India from 27th February to 03rd March 2017. Final year UG Students went to Nila Sea Foods, Tuticorin on 14th March 2017 to view the Processing techniques of Sea Foods.

Placement Cell

The Placement and Career Development Cell of the College organized a series of programmes for the benefit of the outgoing students. “Higher studies option and scholarships available” were presented to the III year students of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry on 13th -15th Feb.2017. A two day workshop was organized for the III year students of MCA on the topic Group Discussion and Interviews. A one day workshop on Interview skills was organized for the III year Commerce students, in which Mr.Vinod Kumar Antony, HR-Manager, Stradegi Consulting Services, Chennai spoke to the III year students of Commerce on Do’s and Donts’ of attending an Interview on 21st February 2017.

A one day Job Fair was successfully organized by the Placement Cell on 18th March 2017. Thirty Companies participated in the fair and over 300 job offers were given to the participants. Over 750 students participated in the fair.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme of our college organized 7-day special camp at Karumathur from 23rd to 29th December 2016. There are 150 NSS volunteers participated in the programme. On 25th December, Dr.K.Jeyakodi, Dean, Extension programme spoke on “PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT”. On 26th December, Dr.M.Karunanithi, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, AAC delivered talk on “KAVITHAIYAL ENNA SEIYA MUDIYUM”. On 27th December Master. Stephen from Tanjore had trained the traditional dance (kambaththaattam) to our students. On 28th December Mr. Stephen Ignatius, Associate Producer, Suriyan FM, gave a wonderful talk about the “MEDIA IN MODERN SOCIETY”. On 29th December, the valedictory function

was held and the camp came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dr.Duraisingam, NSS Coordinator.

NSS cultural team participated in the 23rd annual day conference of MUTA and got the 3rd price; A blood donation camp was conducted by Chellampatti Government hospital on 9th January 2017. The Republic Day programme held at Madurai Kamaraj University on 26th January 2017 and our NSS volunteers participated. A cycle rally was conducted from Karumathur to Usilampatti on 17th January 2017 on the theme of removing the “Semaikarivelam trees”.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The NCC of the college conducted the Republic day celebration was held at Arul Anandar College, Karumathur on 26th January 2017.The NCC students, R.Rajesh Pandi NO.14/SD/25817, C.Arunpandian NO.14/SD/25804, R.Deepak Raj NO.15/SD/25808, N.Manikandan NO./15/SD/25816 and B.Mathankumar NO.15/SD/25817 participated in the Army Attachment Camp at Secundrabad from 20th January to 30th February 2017.

Madurai Kamraj University. Dr.P Pattinathar, Associate Professor, Vivekananda College, Madurai motivated the students to take part in the voluntary activities. Mr.Rajkumar YRC Member, Madurai took up the technical session on disaster management.

A one day field visit to old age home at Alagusirai, Vadakkampatti was organised on 5th March 2017. All the Second year YRC volunteers participated and did their voluntary service to the home and the aged people there. They also entertained the orphan children and senior citizens of the home.

RURAL ACTION DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH (RADAR)

Regular Tailoring classes are conducted in the academic year 2016-2017. 74 rural girls underwent the training in tailoring with hand-on experiences in two batches (July and February). Certificates were issued to those who have successfully completed this tailoring training. Efforts are taken with the Indian Overseas Bank, Karumathur Branch for loan to purchase tailoring machines under self-employment scheme.

The Poosaripatty health centre was renovated and started functioning since December 2016. Mrs Pandiselvi, Nurse from AAC clinic is available for the

The Rotaract unit of our college organised various programmes that are: One day Fieldwork was organised on 15th December 2016. An Orientation Program for First Year Students was conducted by Rotary Club of Madurai Northwest on 22nd December 2016. A Free Eye Checkup Camp was organised by Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital, Madurai on 20th January 2017. A Documentary Film Show and Discussion by Loyola Educational Network for Social Communication was organised from 13th to 22nd February 2017. An awareness programme against exploitation was organised on 07th March 2017. Centre for Women Studies

The Women’s Studies Centre of Arul Anandar College, Karumathur, organized an Awareness Programme on “Understanding of Human Rights and Women Rights” on 15th December 2016 for the first year girl students. Rev.Dr.Basil Xavier,S.J., Principal of our college presided over the programme and encouraged the students with his inspirational talk on the importance of safety measures for girls from violence. Mr.Ganesan, People’s Watch, Madurai, explained the basic human rights and women rights and the reservation system in government offices which affects the basic human rights.

Women’s Studies Centre organized an Awareness Programme on Women and Law on 21st December 2016 for III year UG Girl Students. Mr. T. Lajapathy Roy B.A.B.L., Senior Advocate, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, was the Chief Guest of the day. He delivered a talk on the important laws available for women. Ms. S. Anusha, B.A.B.L., Advocate, Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, Programme Organizer, National Legal Protection Council was one of the resource persons of the day screened a short film on “Women Empowerment”.

The centre has organized a Sensitization Programme on Health and Nutrition on 27th February 2017 for the second year girl students of Government Higher Secondary School, Checkkanoorani. Ms.Rajeswari, Assistant Head Mistress, Government Higher Secondary School, Checkkanoorani spoke on How to keep a good health. Mrs.S.Kulanthai Theresa, Counselor, Family Planning Association, Madurai, was the Guest Speaker. She explained that nutritional food, maintenance of healthy life and reproductive system of a woman. Mr.Chakkaravarthy, Programme Coordinator, Family Planning Association, Madurai, gave the outline on unhealthy food habits of the girls.

The Foundation Course Unit has organised a programme on Human Rights Violation and Necessity of Affirmation of Human Rights in Indian Soil on 29th November 2016. Dr.S.Lourdunathan, Associate Professor was the resource person. A Staff Orientation Programme was organised on 1st December 2016 in which Dr.M.A.Jothirajan, Associate Professor spoke on The Relevance of Bio-Ethics in our times, and Dr.S.Lourdunathan, Associate Professor spoke on Critique into the Human Rights Discourse.

Mentoring & Counselling

Mentoring & Counselling wing of our college organised the following programmes for the students. Memory Techniques &Learning Skills was conducted on 30th January 2017. Dr.V.S. Mege & Mr.Kadher Farook, Assistant Professors were the resource persons. Pre-Marital Counselling was conducted on 30th January 2017. Dr.Dolarose Mary K was the resource person. A programme on Enhancing the Self and Learning Skills was conducted on 7th February 2017. Fr.John Dass was the resource person. A programme on Health Risks of Alcohol on 10th February 2017. Mr.Senthil was the resource person. A programme on Mental Health Issues was conducted on 10th February 2017. Dr.Arulappan& Mr.Johnson, Assistant Professors were the resource persons. Programme on Facing Challenges & Family Life was conducted on 17th February 2017. Dr.Jim Jesu Dhasan was the resource person. A Programme on General Awareness on Health Issues and Nutrition was conducted on 9th March 2017. Mr. Amal Raj was the resource person. A programme on Commitment of Students Towards Social Issues was conducted on 21st February 2017, for which Dr.S.Ganesh, Assistant Professor was the resource person.

Staff Exposure Programme to Goa and Bangalur

In the history of Arul Anandar College, a five day long tour to Goa and Bangaluru was arranged by the convenor of the programme Dr.I.Jeyaraj, Associate Professor of Economics and his team with the support and guidance of the management of the college from 7th December to 12th December 2016. Arul Anandar College (Autonomous) managed by the Jesuit priests of the Madurai Jesuit province is very much attached to the staff and students of the college. The staff exposure programme is a clear expression of their attachment towards staff, their well being and growth. A considerable portion of the financial support was extended by the management is the boosting factor. Sixty teaching staff accompanied by Rev.Fr.Amal Kulandaisamy S.J., the Rector and Rev.Fr.S.Basil Xavier S.J., the Principal. Dr.I.Jeyaraj, Convener of the tour programme expressed his gratitude and thanked the management for their support and cooperation for the good conduct of the tour.
