Impact of Global recession is diminishing and the economy of the country is on the path of improvement. Employment generation is happening along with self-employment. At our D-RUDSETI our main focus is on integrated development of villagers by empowering women and youth. Our efforts would certainly benefit the process of development of the nation, which is primarily rural oriented.

It gives me great pleasure to note that last six years we could embark upon settlement of rural youth and empowering women economically. The statistics of settlement of youth and women shows that our Institute has settled 5647 youth and women and 7940 youth and women have been trained in 254 batches. The resultant improvement in village economy is evident.

The task of making rural economy a sound proposition is very difficult, however in the present situation it becomes pertinent that the rural youth do not migrate for employment and sustain in their own native with viable economic options. Our Institute is focal on these issues.

The recent trends in Self Help Groups of women have shown that they are the basic element of rural development through livelihood programmes. In this sphere, our Institute has done a remarkable job in short span of time by establishing 1135 SHGs covering more than 14857 Members. I am proud to say that more than 50% of established SHGs i.e. 682 SHGs have been linked with the Banks.

Establishment of Satellite Centers of our D-RUDSETI would help develop the region, which is hitherto economically undeveloped due to forest domination. The First Satellite Centre at Mundgod is ready and awaits a formal Inauguration. Our activities at Joida are achieving progressive results to develop backward areas of the Joida Taluk.

The integrated rural development is a Herculean task and our D-RUDSETI is making diligent efforts to share the responsibility of nation building. This is possible only on account of sponsorships, guidance and assistance received from the society. Canara Bank is our Partner in efforts and I look forward for their continued support albeit in greater volumes in terms of inputs and sponsorships. My special mention is needed for NABARD, who is whole-heartedly supporting and also have deputed their Representative in the Governing Council of our Institute.

I place on record the appreciation for the Institute's team for their efforts and also the contribution of Members of the Governing Council in their deliberations.

I note my sincere thanks to all the Sponsors, Government Departments and Ministries, who have supported us in our endeavour.

Rural Development and Orientation Programmes:

Providing awareness to rural folk is an important tool in creating empowerment. Different awareness

activities throughout the year have been organized by the extension centres of the Institute.

Rural Development Programmes

With a view to provide integrated approach to develop villagers through people participation, impart trainings

for rural development to the women and men, members of self help groups, D-RUDSETI is functioning

effectively through its Mundgod, Dandeli, Joida and Haliyal extension centres. The formation, training,

promoting and linking of credit with Banks for Self Groups are given topmost priority by the Institute. Before

intervention of the Institute, most of the vulnerable group of rural area especially women members were

strongly captured by local money lenders and land lords.

In this regard, various awareness camps and workshops on capacity building were organized to empower the

underprivileged people in rural area. These activities helped the SHG members to claim their rights in their

family and society also. Now these people have access to control their expenditure, scale up their earnings

and develop decision making attitude. Their confidence level has remarkably grown up.

I am always happy to visit the RUDSETI as I find it heart-warming to see

unemployed rural youth come and gain valuable skills and inputs at the

institute. The institute's role in rural development is highly

commendable. I am proud to be associated with institute through

NABARD's sponsorship of some of the programmes. The interactions

with trainees give me an enormous joy and satisfaction. I find the

Director and faculty at the institute are highly knowledgeable and keen to

participate in the rural development process. The institute has been

living upto its mission and rendering yeoman service. I have also

interacted with some of the SHGs promoted by the institute today. “Good

Work” D- RUDSETI
