ForewordAs we look back on last year, we’re amazed at all that we have accomplished!

As always, our committed team has been true to our mission of saving the lives of children, as over one million children die due to preventable injuries globally. Our 2 flagship programs i.e., road safety and home safety, enabled us to reach out to 209,755 students, 66,914 parents, 5,036 teachers and 3,792,063 general public through the interactive classroom sessions, in-depth trainings, large scale campaigns, etc., during the period June 2018-May 2019.

Pedestrians are most vulnerable to road accidents, as the incidence of deaths in pedestrians is significantly higher than other road users. Designated footpaths are routinely encroached, leaving the pedestrians with no option than walking on the roads. ‘Safe Kids Walk this Way’ – the pedestrian safety program which was launched in Mumbai in 2007 in collaboration with Safe Kids Worldwide and funded by FedEx, is now branched out to Delhi and Ahmedabad. To further scale up our efforts, ‘Wheels to Road Safety’ – a pedestrian and passenger safety program was launched in Pune in 2017 with a support from Bridgestone.

Studies have revealed that after road traffic injuries, burns remain the second largest contributor to preventable injuries. With an aim of protecting children from burn and scald injuries, Honeywell supported ‘Safe Kids at Home’ program was launched in Pune in 2015. We educate children and the adults systematically on various causes of fire and burns which sets us apart from any other initiatives working in the vertical of child safety. This award-winning program has not only won accolades from various stakeholders but also had many impactful achievements including 50% reduction in fire incidences in Pune as compared to other major cities in India.

In our endeavour to address the holistic health of the child, ‘Healthy Habits Healthy Kids’ program was launched at Saphale village, Palghar in 2018. The program which focuses on tackling malnutrition has made visible difference in improving their health and attendance in schools.

A holistic integration of all stake holders, involved in the well-being of children and their safety, i.e., school authorities, teachers, parents, doctors, hospitals, NGOs, local government, municipal authorities, fire department, traffic police and funders not only adds credibility to the program but also intensifies the reach and the impact. We remain indebted to the immense support we have received from all of them.

On behalf of Safe Kids Foundation, I would like to thank each one of you for your continued support and patronage. At Safe Kids Foundation, we are committed to create a safer environment for our children and look forward to your continued support in the years ahead.
