BIRLA VISHVAKARMA MAHAVIDYALAYA

A PREMIER INSTITUTION OF CVM

FOUNDED IN 1948

Motto: Work is Worship

First Approved by Government as grant paid College

More than 16000 engineers Graduated.

Degrees offered – B.E., M.E. and PhD

The starting days:-

The infrastructure of the college was generously designed for three year degree programme

with an intake of 150 students every year. The main building (now known as A Block) had

class rooms and laboratories. Workshops and heat engine laboratory, drawing hall, hydraulics

laboratory and boiler house were separately constructed. Shri Gordhanbhai I Patel of M/s

Gordhandas Desai & Co was authorized to proceed to Europe and UK to purchase equipment

for workshops, laboratories and surveying. The college thus started with the best of the

equipment.

BVM produces a baby - a Search Institute:-

In 1979, BVM was called upon to establish an institute working entirely for research,

development, training and extension work in the area of renewable sources of energy particular

for rural application. Dr. R M Dave took great pains in establishing the Jyoti Solar Energy

Institute. The institute (later renamed as Sardar Patel renewable Energy Research Institute) has

now developed into a full - fledged institute working independently in the vital area of

renewable energy.

Infrastructure:-

Land : 18.96 acres

Builtup area : 35704.00 sq.m.

Outstanding facilities:-

A spacious hall on the south end of the ground floor of the main building which at one

time housed the college library was converted in 1989 into a modern – Auditorium with

a capacity of 350 seats and complete with acoustical treatment, light, sound and

projection facilities. The Auditorium is beautifully carpeted and curtained and is rated

todays as one of the best Auditorium on Vallabh Vidyanagar campus.

The Mechanical Engineering building has a Conference Room installed with complete

audio-visual facilities for a capacity of 40 seats.

The college workshop was reorganized to establish laboratories for the Production

Engineering programme and to house new and sophisticated machines. On south side

of the workshop a new building has come up for Civil & Production Engineering

Laboratories. The building is constructed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakhs.

Principal S B Junnarkar Guest House has a facility of well-furnished 10Guest room at

the second floor of newly constructed library Building is constructed with the estimated

cost of Rs.60 lakhs is added to BVM infrastructure.

A Multipurpose Hall with donation from L&T (with the help of CEO Er. Anil Nayak a

BVMite) is also an addition to the services of alma mater.

Computer Centres of Civil, Structural, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering are

also available for students and faculties with internet connectivity.

College Canteen and conference room near Principal's office have been face lifted

during 2006.

BVM enters in to IT Era:-

The Computer Centre was established in 1985 and is being continuously upgraded and

expanded. Initially it had a UNIX-based minicomputer with sixteen terminals and a number of

PC/XTs and PC/ATs providing DOS Environment. A high resolution work station with

sophisticated software was also available. In addition, the college installed personal computers

in each department to meet the departmental requirements. Currently, college is equipped with

approx. 750 computers with good configuration like P4 and above.

BVM gets Self-financed mode programs:-

Two more IT related course are now run by BVM. One in 2001-02, 60 seats was

approved by AICTE in Information Technology. Second one was also approved by

AICTE in academic year 2006-07 with 60 seats in Electronics and Telecommunication.

Recently in 2012, two more existing courses, Mechanical and Production Engineering

has been granted 30 seats each in Self-financed Mode by AICTE.

3 ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE COLLEGE

Country’s most prestigious technical education program (TEQIP) with the budget of 2430 crore

funded by World Bank’s Assistance and Assistance from various State Governments entered

in its second phase. This program intends to focus on strengthening the institutions to produce

engineers of better quality and employability. It was decided to fund 200 best engineering

institutes of the country from the present 3000 plus engineering institutes.

It is a matter of immense pride that BVM Engineering College stood seventh in the country as

regards to eligibility proposal submitted and later was short listed first for the TEQIP program

in Gujarat. This college will thus receive the highest ever funding assistance of Rs. 10 crores

in past 63 years of its existence. The funding would be of 10crore rupees. The TEQIP team

under the leadership of Dr C L Patel and under the able guidance of Dr.F S Umrigar and with

the untiring efforts of the TEQIP Coordinator Dr D.G.Thakore and core group could achieve

this.

B V M Engineering College has been one of the 190 institutes implementing TEQIP – II

(Technical Education Quality Improvement Program, Phase - II) for Subcomponent 1.1 aiming

for “Strengthening institutions to improve learning outcomes and employability of graduates”

- the project assisted by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Human Resource

Development (MHRD) of the Government of India as a “Centrally Sponsored Scheme” with

matching contributions from the State Government. The program is being successfully

implemented under the Guidance of Dr. C. L. Patel sir, Chairman BoG, B V M & Hon.

Chairman, Charutar Vidya Mandal & Hon. Secretaries of C V M and with the leadership of

Dr. F. S. Umrigar, Principal B V M.

The college has so far received four installments of Rs. 2.0 Crores each, out of total Rs. 8.0

Crores. Presently, various activities are being carried out to strengthen the institute by

upgrading laboratories, library & learning resources, updating of curriculum meeting industrial

needs, enhancement of research & consultancy, training, qualification upgradation & capability

Building of faculty and staff members, enhancement of interaction with industries through

expert lectures, training & internships, special training & teaching to weak students and

improvements in the Institute Governance. Several training programs and workshops have

been organized for imparting training to faculty members of B V M and other institutes of the

state by following hub and spoke model. The interaction of the institute with industries,

admission out effect and the campus placement has been significantly enhanced. B V M has

been a pioneering institute for organizing Project-Expo, showcasing all projects carried out

by final year students to the neighboring institutes. The projects were evaluated by Industrial

experts and feedback & suggestions were given to students. The objectives & outcomes of the

event were appreciated, and subsequently, Gujarat Technological University made it a

mandatory activity for all affiliated engineering colleges.

There has been in-place mechanism for Implementation of Equity Assurance Plan for

Students’ Development. Time slots are marked in the Time Tables for Remedial classes and

Departmental Students’ Counseling. Supplementary classes & Bridge Courses are arranged by

Head of Departments as per needs.

UGC awarded Autonomy to BVM for six years we. from year 2015-16. BVM, first engineering

college of the state is the only autonomous engineering college in Gujarat State. This feast

could be achieved under the visionary leadership of Dr. C. L. Patel and the able guidance of

Dr. F. S. Umrigar & Dr. I. N. Pate by the Coordinated by Dr. P. M. George.

International Conference on Research and Innovations in Science,

Engineering and Technology

February 17 – 19, 2017

Objectives of the conference:

The International conference on Research in Science and Technology aims at finding new and

innovative synergies and promulgation of knowledge in different fields of Technology and

Science. The conference was meant to promote the knowledge and development of high-quality

research in engineering fields concerned with the modern technological development. The

conference was planned with a mission to bring together leading academicians, Scientists,

Researchers, Scholars and Students to exchange and share their Knowledge, experiences and

research results on the aspects of Innovations in Science, Engineering and Technology. This

forum provides an opportunity to network and discuss the practical challenges encountered and

the solutions adopted in their respective domains worldwide. International Conference

composed of unique invited master talks and paper presentation in the tracks of Civil and

Structural Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering,

Computer Engineering & IT, Mechanical and Production Engineering, Mathematics and

Humanities Science.

The International Conference on “Research and Innovations in Science, Engineering and

Technology” (ICRISET 2017) with theme “Responding to Challenges of Globalization through

Science, Engineering and Technology Innovations” ICRISET- 2017 was a three-day event

which brings together science and engineering professionals and researchers in the country and

in other parts of the world to share recent discoveries and results of their scientific innovations.

The Conference aims at finding new and innovative synergies and promulgation of knowledge

in different fields of Science, Engineering and Technology.

The above purpose was found to be served on execution where more than 500 papers were submitted

from national and in additions global nations like Bangladesh, Russia, Korea, Syria and USA.

Total 350 analysts from eminent Academic foundations, industrial sectors, research centres

have indiscriminately checked the papers to be presented in conference. 500 delegates have

registered for taking active part in the conference. In the light of scientific - theoretical research

and the search for practical solutions, it is expected that the exchange of views and discussion

come up with new ideas, answer many current questions, and encourage new questions, all in

favor of improving the theory and practice of technological development. Ural Federal

University-Russia, University of Prince Edward Island-Canada, Huazhong University of

Science and Technology-China, Laurentain University-Canada, Wismar University-Germany,

CPIT-New Zealand and Jiangsu University-China were the academic partners and other

knowledge partners supported the conference.

The manuscript submission was carried out through easy chair in which the manuscripts were

received from the day the promotion of the International Conference began, i.e. from

November, 2016. The first announcement of the conference was promoted in November, 2016

and the details of the conference were found to be visible on the conference website

http://www.bvmengineering.ac.in/icriset2017/

The last date for paper submission needed to be extended two times looking at the

overwhelming response of the participants in the form of paper submission. The paper

submission was conducted through easychair and the registration needed to be done online by

filling up the registration form as a google doc.

Of 505 manuscripts so received till the last date of paper submission, the plagiarism check of

all the submissions was performed through Turnitin Website. Papers have plagiarism above 30

% were directly rejected, those having within 20 – 30 % were asked to revise and resubmit

reducing the plagiarism to 20 %, and those having less than 20 % plagiarism were sent further

peer review through the review panel. Each paper was assigned to two reviewers of the

respective field and a double blind review process was carried out. Finally, 320 papers were

accepted for Presentation and Publication. Presented papers will be published in ISTE journal

named Indian Journal of Technical Education (peer review journal). Some of the selected

papers will be published in Easychair Kalpa Series with Scopus indexing. Around 300 peer

reviewed papers were presented during 5 parallel sessions of each track. More than 500
