MANAVLOK is a Voluntary organization for socio-economic upliftment of the rural-poor, established in 1982 under Society Registration Act 1860. Several experiments in rural development have been launched for the Last 33 years, MANAVLOK would develop its activities over an increasing scale, never straying from the tenet that programs be based on the specific needs of the people. The Ongoing activities of the organization are Community based Monitoring programmes of NRHM, Water shed development programme, Krushak Panchayat, HelpAge India Programme, Know your customer Programme, Manaswini Mahila Parkalp (Women empowerment providing Shelter Home, Free Legal aid center, training center), Domestic Violence and Gender Sensitization, Jansahayog, Social Work College, SHG’s, Need based Training Centre, sanitation, relief services for the victims of Natural Disaster, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation of Govt. programs. We are permitted and authorized by government of Maharashtra to run schools. Historical Perspective :

In the early 1970s, a socialist group of youth began seeking solutions to social and political problems of the rural community with the general aim of achieving harmony in society and fullness of life. After nearly 20 years of efforts and agitations, they concluded that socio-political change was not possible without economic change. With this point of view in mind, they established MANAVLOK in 1982, a voluntary organization for the socio-economic upliftment of the rural poor. Philosophy:

MANAVLOK’s CREED: “GO TO THE PEOPLE, LIVE AMONG THEM, LEARN FROM THEM, LOVE THEM, START WITH WHAT THEY KNOW, BUILD ON WHAT THEY HAVE.”

Manavlok’s philosophy is reflected in its name: MANAVLOK, which is the shortened form of “MArathwada NAVnirman LOKayat”, where ‘NAVNIRMAN’ means “Creation” and ‘LOKAYAT’, denotes “People’s opinion”. Manavlok thus symbolizes a new idea or an experiment in rural development, whereby villagers themselves are the focus of action and control. VISION : MANAVLOK aims to solve the socio-economic problems of the community and achieve a better life to them. MISSION:

MANAVLOK believes that collective local leadership plays an essential role in mobilizing the local resources and making the best use of them. The utilization of local human resources must take priority over the hiring of outside assistance. MANAVLOK does not entertain the welfare approach of giving aid. It believes in providing the means for development rather than dolling out money to the poor. Funds are thus directed at start- up projects, with the expectation that beneficiaries contribute an equal investment in the form of time and energy. MANAVLOK believes that women play an important role as men in society and yet continue to be marginalized, impoverished, and underrepresented. Special attention must be given to their development. The special women oriented project “Manaswini” means one who propagates her own enlightenment with grit. MANAVLOK acknowledges that the health of the people is ultimately dependent on the health of their environment. As such the land must be protected from modern petrochemicals and devastation. Since ignorance and poverty are enemies of the environment, awareness programs and development schemes are seriously promoted.

In this function, both the Bride and Bridegroom were provided all the requirement of marriage ceremony (i.e. attires and rings, priest, etc) by the organizer. 3- Krushak Panchayat Self-Help Group MANAVLOK initiated many projects for farmers to uplift their socio-economic and formed Krushak Panchayat

(Farmers’ Club) during 1983. There were around 30,000 members. For these member we created awareness and given training on agriculture development (which is related to GAP), watershed development (community-wells, check-dams, CCT, compartment bunding, land renovation, plantation, bore wells, bio-gas), sanitation, government schemes, etc. This Krushak Panchayat has changed into SHGs during 2006. Through this activity we could see much progress in the community and the beneficiaries also slowly developed socially and economically. And we are happy to say that due to development the number of members of KPs/SHGs is decreasing slowly. Also it creates self-confidence and leadership among the vulnerable groups of society. Now many persons of this group become leader in the community like Gram Panchayat Members, Cooperative Society’s Members, etc.

Presently we are focusing on the marginal farmers to make them be free from money lenders. These marginal farmers are finding financial difficulties to buy seed and fertilizers for agriculture activities. They have no accessibility of agriculture loan from bank due to several reasons. Therefore they tend to fall into the trap of money lenders. As per the requirement of these marginal farmers we provided seeds and fertilizers of a sum of amount Rs. 10000 to Rs. 17500 approximately per beneficiary for one Percent (1%) as administrative charge per annum. Without recovery officer the capital amount recovered 100% successfully. This activity is continuing smoothly.

We have Self Help groups. It focusing on different developmental activities or programmes as per the requirements of the groups’ members. We have networking and linkages with different governmental departments and banks in assessing the programme/schemes in order to reach to right beneficiaries. This year Rs. 7682019.00 distributed among 1087 members for seeds & fertilizers.

The details of distribution are shown in the table:

12-Farm Mechanisation (Accessibility of Farm Equipment’s to Small Land holders)

The concept of “Farm Mechanisation” for the “Accessibility of Farm Equipment to Small Land holders” was

sprouted while dealing with socio-economic issues among marginal and small land holding farmers. Agriculture operations are usually considered as manual labor work/activity mostly in rural part of India. The system of agriculture manual labor outcomes ineffective production/yield crops due to inability of timely performed activity for instance, late-sowing, late-weeding, late-harvesting, etc. However, there are scanty availability of labors and excessive expenditure on labor. Therefore, farmers especially among the marginal and small land holding farmers have immense problems in rural areas. In Dist. Beed of Maharashtra State, Majority of the population among farmers are marginal and small land holding farmers. As far as their socio-economic status is concerned they are not in a position to bear the capital cost of the agriculture equipment’s. Lack of acceptance of the modern technology to implement in day to day activity among farmers is also a great challenge. Due to this even the rich farmers do not access farm mechanization. This project targets not only to poor farmers but also the rich farmers for creating sensitivity and awareness among all farmers about the requirement of change in agriculture tradition for positive productivity and sustainable agriculture. Lack of awareness about using of agriculture technology among rural population is one of the causes which lead to poverty among farmers.
