2 WeeksCTC Bagotville

This course provides cadets who have recently joined the Cadet Program an introductory summer training experience where they will participate in a variety of activities from each specialty.

Activities include:• Drill and Ceremonial, • Music, • Marksmanship, • Aviation, • Aerodrome Operations, • Aircraft Manufacturing and

Maintenance,• Aerospace, and • Aircrew Survival.

Basic Drill and Ceremonial

(CTC Valcartier, west of Quebec City)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to build on drill learned at the squadron, participate in advanced drill and ceremonial activities, and to develop leadership skills and knowledge; while performing the role of a team leader.

Activities include:• commanding a squad on parade, • drill with arms, • flag drill, and• marksmanship training.

All Basic Courses are 3 weeks long

Basic Fitness and Sports

(CTC Valcartier QC, or CTC Argonaut NB)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to participate in fitness and sports activities, and to develop knowledge and skills on how to perform the duties of a Fitness and Sports Assistant.

Activities include:• following a personal fitness

routine, • leading warm-up and cool-down

sessions, • assisting with the Cadet Fitness

Assessment and • assisting with recreational sports.

All Basic Courses are 3 weeks long

Basic Aviation

(CTC Greenwood, Nova Scotia)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop the fundamentals of aviation.

Activities include:• radio communication, • a familiarization flight, • meteorology, and • air navigation.

Basic Aviation Technology and Aerospace

(CTC Greenwood, Nova Scotia)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop the fundamentals of aerospace, airport operations and aircraft manufacturing and maintenance.

Activities include:• aerospace, • aerodrome operations, and • aircraft manufacturing and

maintenance.

All Basic Courses are 3 weeks long

Basic Survival

(CTC Bagotville)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop aircrew survival skills.

Activities include:• field training, • navigation, and • ground search and rescue.

All Basic Courses are 3 weeks long

Military Band – Basic Musician

(HMCS Acadia CTC, Clementsport NS)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to participate in music training and military band activities, to prepare them to support squadron music programs.

Activities include:• maintaining a primary instrument, • music theory, • demonstrating rhythm skills, • executing drill as a member of a

band, and • performing ensemble music as a

member of a band.

All Basic Courses are 3 weeks long

Drill and Ceremonial Instructor

(Greenwood CTC)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to become an instructor and team leader during drill and ceremonial activities.

All courses have standard first aid training

Activities include:• advanced drill, • instructional techniques, and • leadership.

Fitness and Sports Instructor

(Cold Lake CTC)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop as a fitness and sports specialist with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to perform the role of a Fitness and Sports Instructor and a team leader for fitness and sports activities conducted at the squadron during regionally directed activities and/or as a staff cadet at a CTC

Activities include:• personal fitness and healthy

living, • conducting the Cadet Fitness

Assessment, and • leading recreational sports.

Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor

(Connaught CTC)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop marksmanship skills and knowledge, and to instruct and lead air rifle marksmanship activities.

Activities include:• first aid, • advanced marksmanship, • instructional techniques and • coaching.

Survival Instructor

(Greenwood CTC)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop as a specialist with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aircrew survival activities within the Air Cadet Program.

Activities include:• instructional technique, • first aid, • survival and field training, and • ground navigation.

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop as a specialist with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aviation activities within the Air Cadet Program.

Activities include:• instructional technique, • radio communication, • meteorology, and • air navigation.

Military Band – Intermediate Musician

(CTC HMCS Acadia, Clementsport NS)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to participate in music training and military band activities, to prepare them to support squadron music programs.

Prerequisite: Musician Proficiency Level Basic

Activities include:• first aid, • maintaining a primary

instrument, • music theory, • executing drill as a member of a

band, and • performing ensemble music as a

member of a band.

Military Band – Advanced Musician

(Greenwood CTC)

Advanced Aviation – Airport Operations

(Canadore College, North Bay, ON)

This course is a six-week course that introduces Cadets to the various components of operating an airport.

Activities include: • airside operations, • meteorology, • navigation, • air traffic services,

• ground services, and safety.

Advanced Aviation – Aircraft Maintenance

(Canadore College, North Bay, ON)

This course is a six-week course that provides Cadets the opportunity to learn aircraft maintenance skills through a set of practical, hands-on training activities.

Activities include: • installing and removing rivets

used in aircraft metal structures, • performing a landing gear

retraction test on a fixed wing aircraft,

• assembling an input driveshaft from a turbine powered helicopter.

Advanced Aerospace

(St Jean CFTC)

This course provides cadets an opportunity to develop as a specialist with the skills and subject matter knowledge required to be an instructor and team leader for aerospace activities within the Air Cadet Program.

Activities include: • instructional technique, • first aid, • astronomy, • orbital mechanics, and • model rocketry.

Develop, train and obtain a glider pilots license.

Power Pilot Scholarship(Various)

Develop, train and obtain a Private Pilot’s License.

MEDICATION Cadet who have prescription drugs are strongly

encourage to use blister packages.

Otherwise, medication must be in their original package with the original label.

It is requested that cadets arrive on CTCs with enough medication to cover the complete period of the course

A control of the over the counter medication will be done by the Centre’s medical staff for cadets who bring some from home; in case of need, it is possible to get some from the medical staff.

Participation Limitations

The following participation limitations prevent cadets from attending any CTC:

• “cadet cannot participate in any RDA or CTC course or may not participate in training or activities with meals”;

• “unable to attend overnight activities”;

• “unable to participate in drill and parades; or unable to take part in a group activity.”

The following Participation limitations may prevent cadets from attending any CTC.

• “may be unable to do significant classroom work or studies”;

• “may choose not to participate in certain activities”;

• “may participate in physical activities at own pace and duration”;

• “may require close supervision”;

• “may require extra assistance for daily activities”;

• “may require extra assistance/direction in complex and non-routine tasks”; or

• “may require special care during overnight activities - verify with cadet”.

Who conducts and supervises the courses?

• Members of the Cadet Organisation and Administration Service (COATS) including Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) Officers, and Civilian Instructors, Regular Force, Primary Reserve members, and civilian contractors

• Senior cadets are also employed as staff cadets to assist with supervision and instruction

• The ratio of adult supervisor to cadet is approximately 1:10

Cadets: What will life be like?

• Close quarters with cadets from all over Canada• Meals in mess halls• Busy training days• “Down time” in the evenings• Home sickness / calling home• Personal hygiene (care for yourself)• Laundry and uniform care• Make great friendships• Learn fantastic skills• Receive training bonus (approx. $60/week)

Parents: What to expect?

• May receive anguished calls or texts from your homesick cadet• Best advice: TRUST the staff at the CTC to take good care of your cadet –

do not try to interfere• Leave Passes / visitation is granted at specific times only so as not to

interfere with training – CALL AHEAD• If you’ve been doing your cadet’s laundry and ironing – STOP! They must

do it themselves at the CTC• Management of their training bonus/finances

How are cadets selected?

• Cadets submit their list of choices to the Squadron staff

– Published tonight at midnight on the 706 website– Deadline: Thursday March 14th 2019 at 23:59

• The Squadron Staff will rank and select cadets• Cadets and parents need to be aware that medical/participation

limitations (including allergies and asthma) may prevent or limit selection for CTC courses, will be contacted individually

Completing the Application

Every year cadets are not selected because of incomplete information. Please read the application thoroughly. Here are some specific items to pay particular attention to:

Completing the Application

Medical Health ChangesIf your medical information has changed you will need to fill out a Detailed Health Questionnaire. The medical information must be the most current available.

What happens when I have been selected?

• Squadron staff will notify you of your selection and present you with an “Offer of Participation”

• Both the cadet and a parent/guardian must sign the offer

• The Squadron staff will keep a copy of the Offer, and the cadet must bring a copy to the CTC

What happens when I have been selected?

• Squadron staff will submit your answer (accept or decline)

• Travel Orders and Joining Instructions will be emailed directly to the email address on file. Please ensure your correct email address is provided to the Squadron

Completing the Offer of Participation Form

• It is extremely important that you review all the information on this form to make sure it is correct. Make any corrections necessary.

• Ensure that all other sections of the form are completed including:– Leave pass restrictions– Alternate Family or Friend Contact– Cadet signature– Parent Signature

How do cadets get to and from the training centres?

• All transportation is organized and paid for by DND • Cadets may travel by bus, commercial air, or DND air• Cadets are escorted or met on all legs of their journey when travelling in

large groups. For smaller groups adult escorts will be based on location and duration

• If parents request special transportation arrangements, (or RTU), they may be financially responsible

• The dates listed are course dates and cadets may travel up to two days prior and following the course dates
