Chairman’s Report

To,

Mr. Manoj Fadnis ji

The Honorable President of ICAI

&

Mr. Devaraja Reddy garu

The Honorable Vice President of ICAI

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

New Delhi

Respected Sirs,

Sub: Submission of Activity Report 2015

Namasthe,

No person, other than Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalamji, has

described the role of Chartered Accountants in the

most befitting manner by declaring them as “Partners

in Nation Building”.

His words bring in a refreshing, proud and patriotic

feeling within the soul of all Chartered Accountants.

It ignites the sense of moral responsibility and makes

one aware of the great expectations made by the

Nation.

His famous quote :

Dream, Dream and Dream Dream transforms into thoughts Thoughts results into action.

has always been generating a great inspiration and

energy(Chythanya) and has made people to dream and

transform their thoughts in to action and to succeed.

“The Quality of a person’s life will be determined

by the depth of their commitments to excellence,

no matter what their chosen field is”

- Jnanasagara CA S Krishna Swamy

When the Institute has completed its 66 years

of glorious service…. steering professional

excellence, we take this opportunity to provide you

The year bygone was a wonderful year and the Branch

was brimming with Members, actively participating in

all the events conducted/hosted by the Branch.

It is our firm belief that the Speakers/Resource

Persons are the Heart and the Brain of our

There were tremendous expectations from the

members and it was definitely a challenging task for

our Team to cope with their expectations and deliver

to their satisfaction. With your total support, co-

operation, blessings and good wishes our Team has

emerged as a successful one.

Enough number of events have been conducted on

diverse topics relevant to our Profession. On every

Wednesday, Study Circle meetings were conducted

and almost on every Friday, Practice Alert Discussions

were conducted. Series of Intensive workshops on

International Taxation was commenced, programmes

being scheduled on 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month.

1. THEME FOR THE YEAR -

CA – Today should be a clear sighted professional

- A Professional with insight, farsight and foresight.

Attestation is now an ongoing activity, not a hind

sight act as before; with the implementation of various

disclosures on quarterly basis. Not only attestation

but also certification of various compliance functions

(like Corporate Governance, CSR etc), a CA is

considered today a part of the monitoring mechanism

in all business decisions and activities– whether in

employment or in practice or whether in CSR or in

Corporate Governance.

The concept of auditors’ responsibility is fast changing

and enlarging. It is no more confined to ticking of the

boxes to create audit working papers.Frauds are of

different varieties – both in terms of complexities and

in terms of the largeness. Stakeholders’ expectations

have changed. What is expected is not a single vanilla

type of reporting.

One has to go more in the substance rather than form

of auditing. The CA is equipped to possess a clear

sight and be a “Vichakshana”

2. ICAI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2015

29th, 30th & 31st January 2015,

Bangalore Palace, Bengaluru

The international conference for members provided an

opportunity to all the delegates to keep abreast with

evolving global trends. In fact, it was a knowledge

feast with International celebrities participating and

facilitating to exchange their views and ideas to sustain

the quality of our glorious profession.

6. INNOVATIVE PATH BREAKING INITIATIVES FOR

LEARNING :

To further equip the Members with the sufficient

knowledge and adequate updates in the field of law,

the Branch initiated two unique programmes viz.,

1. PRACTICE ALERT – DISCUSSIONS &

2. PRACTICE SUPPORT WORKSHOPS

The concept of the above are explained briefly:

PRACTICE ALERT - DISCUSSIONS – ON ALL FRIDAY’S

This was addressed by two expert resource persons

– one is a senior professional and the other one is

relatively a junior. The junior will prepare and make

a presentation regarding the updates on a particular

category of law (like Income Tax, VAT, Etc, one field of

Law being considered for each session). The event is

conceptualized in to the following sub-events

• VISHAYA - VIVARA :Enhancing our existing

information with Updates

This is the first part of the event (for approximately

30 minutes), the speakers shall provide the latest

updates and alerts including the latest important

judgements.

• VIMARSHE - VISPURANA: Deliberating for

proper understanding of the Updates

The latest updates provided in the first part of

the event are thoroughly discussed to analyse and

understand the impact on the current business/

professional scenario. (app.30 minutes)

• VICHARAMANTHANA :Blending of the optimal

Thoughts

The last part is dedicated for sheer academic

interaction – an open house, wherein Members

are provided an opportunity to get their doubts

clarified right from the experts – not only on

the updates but also on any topic relating to

the law that shall be discussed on that day. The

Branch provided an opportunity for the Members

(particularly for the Young members) to get

their doubts/conflicts elucidated from the expert

resource persons.

PRACTICE SUPPORT WORKSHOPS

We regularly conducted hands on training workshops

on VAT, Service Tax, Companies Act, where we

provided hands on training on filling of the e-forms,

uploading procedures, information about common

errors, avoidance of mistakes while filling and filing

and cover other such incidental matters. Dummy

e-filing will also be worked out with illustrations

covering various scenarios.

This programme was open to CA’s and Article Clerks

and has empowered the Members for providing more

effective and efficient service to their clients.

13. CSR Activities

Heritage – our National Pride

Recently, ICAI has come out with a CSR policy, the

brain child of our immediate past president CA. K.

Raghu, which inter alia, includes adoption of Section

135, Item (v) of the Schedule VII of the Companies

Act 2013 states:

(v) protection of national heritage, art and culture

including restoration of buildings and sites of

historical importance and works of art; setting up

public libraries; promotion and development of

traditional arts and handicrafts;

India is the largest repository of heritage monuments;

each one is a tangible link to our glorious past.

Conservation of Heritage sites could be effective

only when awareness about the same is created by

appropriate propagation of information.

Performing a fundamental duty of creating awareness

about a heritage monument, which could also be

endorsed as a CSR activity, should be welcome and

encouraged by one and all.

We are happy to inform you that the Bangalore

Branch has taken steps in this direction which is being

appreciated by many Members.

* * * * *

UNESCO World Heritage Convention recognized

places of importance of cultural or natural

heritage and declared them as World Heritage Sites.

It was specifically noted that the cultural sites in India

are marked by their brilliant craftsmanship on stone

and most of the temples of India stated in the list

were built in stone, without any mortar and with

sculpture carved on it. The Convention went beyond

the Religion and classified them as World Heritage

Sites.

The Government of India has a separate Ministry of

Culture with the first agenda in its Mission Statement

as “Maintenance and conservation of heritage,

historic sites and ancient monuments” followed by

“Promotion of institutional and individual non-official

initiatives in the fields of art and culture”

“It shall be the duty of every citizen of India

to value and preserve the rich heritage of our

composite culture” – states Article 51 A(f) of the

Constitution of India as one of the Fundamental

Duty.

The Branch News Letter carrying information about

the Heritage monuments has done one of its

fundamental duties as stated in the Constitution.

Horrifying & Unpardonable Impropriety of Hero Stones Rectified

HERO STONE (Veeragallu) :

Hero Stone is a stone carved in commemoration of the honorable death of a person in the course of

protecting his land or people. In recognition of the scrupulous loyalty and dedication of such person,

expressing their gratitude and as a token of reciprocation, the Kings used to get the carvings done for

depicting the details of the Heroism, including the weapon used by the Hero.

The Kings wanted the name and fame of such patriotic Warriors to remain forever. They intended the Hero

Stones to become the source of motivation and inspiration for the next generation. They wanted the

values for which the patriots sacrificed their lives to be radiant and alive in this form.

We gave complaint about this issue with

the concerned Ministries of the Government

of Karnataka and also to the Archeological

Department. Through a Press Conference, we also

brought this to the notice of the Media. Many

News Papers published the clippings with the

details. The matter was actively followed up and

the Hero Stones were shifted to Venkatappa Art

Gallery (Government Museum) for safe custody

and steps being taken to preserve it safely.

The front page photo of the April 2015 issue is of

the Hero Stone taken on 4th of April 2015. The Hero

Stone at K.R.Pura was installed by the Ganga Emperor

Sripurusha (725AD-788AD), in commemoration

of the display of incomparable valor and invaluable

sacrifice made by one “Mareya” (Mariah, Mareiah) as

inscripted in the Hero Stone. This is around 750AD and

gains great importance with regard to the antiquity of

itself as well as that of Bengaluru.

The deplorable state of the Hero Stone cannot be described

as “Gross Negligence”; it is too soft a word to so describe;

this is nothing but TOTAL IMPROPRIETY and DISHONOR

TO THE GREAT HISTORY, CULTURE AND HERITAGE !

Hero Stone was lying beside a Garbage Bin; secondly,

all thrash and junk were callously thrown; over and

above, dried leaves were accumulated and everything

was set ablaze. The hero stone has developed cracks

on its surface and this is because of the apathy of the

urban towards the historical relic.

exercise, the points of levy, set off, claim, carry

forward, returns etc,

Bangalore Branch, being the largest branch is India

programmes.

During the year 2015, with a view to better

administer and ensure proper co-ordination, the

managing committee decided to take on lease

the first floor of its sub-branch on long term basis

to conduct these programmes, which also has

sufficient space for conducting certificate courses

and other programmes for members which

hitherto were held in hotels at huge cost. The

facilities were put to use from 7th Nov. 2015 after

being duly inaugurated by the Immediate Past

President of ICAI – CA K Raghu. The new premises

boosts of 2 class rooms a) Abhyasa Hall - 45 seats,

the parking space.

importance is given for maintaining cleanliness in

the premises.

6. File racks all over Administrative, Accounts,

Records, and other sections were fabricated to

improve the storage space for the records.

at the sales counter.

8. A separate Fresh Room for Committee Members

& Guests has been constructed by optimally using

the existing space.

Students extensively make use of the library during the period of examinations. During examination time the library

is kept open for 2 shifts. Members find great pleasure in spending their valuable time here in pursuit of knowledge.

At a time 70 people can be seated comfortably.

During the current year 135 books has been added to the library, which related to the CA Course. Members of

the Bangalore Branch have magnanimously contributed towards the development of library. The library is being

used by 150 students a day on an average, which goes up to 250-300 students per day during the examinations.

The average number of members visiting the library per day is approximately 25. We have digitized the inventory

of books at library; where in members can know about the books and their availability. It provides information

about usage of books and provides valuable information for regular sourcing of books. E-books of the ICAI are

also made available.

Reading room facility at Bangalore South #215, Subbarama Chetty Road, Netkallappa Circle, Bangalore was made

operational, enabling the students and members from Bangalore South to make use of the facility and refer books.

CA Students Industrial visits made on 29.12.2015 –

Kirloskar Toyato Company

The Industrial visit to the Toyota Kirloskar, Bidadi plant tour was

very beneficial for the CA Students who gained knowledge in

the areas of Japanese system of production, Plant Layout, HR

policies etc. Students learnt about the Supply chain practice

which is called as the PUSH-PULL strategy. The most important

observation at the visit was the time management factor.

They were so keen and precise about time and they plan

accordingly. They were actually aware of how to successfully

execute procedures with time.

After obtaining the permission from the respective authorities, CA Students were taken to the corresponding

units. Representatives of the company received the students and took them around the company, explaining the

process of production, storage etc

Further, in most cases the students got a chance to interact with the senior employees of the company and they

were able to get their doubts clarified.
