Play in pairs. Give each pair a board which has boxes with different letters in them (see example

Student A turns over a topic card and chooses a letter from the board. He/She must say a word

Rome is the capital city

of Italy. They started

building it in 753 B.C. and

the Romans have a story

to explain how this

happened.

Twin boys, Romulus and

Remus, were taken from

their mother and left by the river Tiber to starve. A

mother wolf found the babies and looked after them

until they were old enough to take care of

themselves.

Years later, Mars (the Roman God of war) said to the

boys: “Build a city where you were found.” The two

boys started building the city but ended up at war

with each other. Romulus won the battle. He built the

city and it became known as Rome. Today, historians

and archaeologists agree that people started living in

Rome long before the time of Romulus and Remus,

but many people still believe in the legend.

Many Romans lived in

blocks of flats! The

Romans called them

‘insulae’, which means

islands, because they

were tall and stuck out

above the streets.

Diana Spencer was born on 1st July 1961 in Norfolk, England. She went to boarding

school in Kent and in 1977 she went to Switzerland to complete her studies. When she

returned to England in 1978 she worked as a nanny in London.

Diana married Prince Charles in July 1981 at St PaulÕs Cathedral in London. People

over the world watched their wedding on television.

Diana was very popular. The people loved her for her kindness and beauty. She cared

very much about the sick and the poor all around the world.

Unfortunately, Diana and Charles divorced in August 1996. She died in a car acciden

in Paris on 31st August 1997. She was only 36 years old.

Dear Mandy,
