TITLE: EXHAUST - THRUST REVERSER - INSPECTION OF 6 O’CLOCK BEAMFOR OVERHEAT ON RR TRENT 700 ENGINES

REASON/DESCRIPTION/OPERATIONAL CONSEQUENCES

Airbus has received some reports of Trent 700 Thrust Reverser (TR) unit C-duct which have beenfound with evidence of thermal degradation on the lower structural beams (6 o’clock beam) in the rearareas (latches 5, 6 and 7).

This Service Bulletin is published to advise all operators of A330 aircraft equipped with Trent 700engines of the issue of ROLLS-ROYCE Service Bulletin No. RB211-78-AH677 which inspects the TR.

This Inspection Service Bulletin instructs a Special Detailed Inspection (SDI) - electrical conductivityNon-Destructive Test (NDT), and further detailed inspection and A-scan ultrasonic inspection of possibleheat damage in the 6 o’clock beam. This Service Bulletin also includes acceptance limits, repair actionsand replacement criteria.

Accomplishment of this Inspection Service Bulletin will enable an early detection of 6 o’clock beamoverheat and will contribute to avoid an extended maintenance operation. This Inspection ServiceBulletin will ensure the structural integrity of the Trent 700 TR unit C-duct.

The Operational/Maintenance Consequences of this Service Bulletin are covered by the update of theaffected publications detailed in ’PLANNING INFORMATION’.

C. REASON

(1) History

(c) For RH side TR door:

1 Do a detailed inspection of the 6 o’clock beam clevises 5, 6 and 7 for crack /deformation and accomplish the corrective action in accordance with ROLLS-ROYCE Service Bulletin No. RB211-78-AH677 before next flight.


(d) Do a detailed inspection - ultrasonic testing for delamination with A-scan - ofOuter Fixed Structure (OFS) rear area for LH and RH TR doors and accomplishthe corrective action in accordance with ROLLS-ROYCE Service Bulletin No.RB211-78-AH677 before next flight.


(e) Depending on the inspection it may be required to replace the affected beam TRdoor before next flight.

NOTE: For replacement spare TR door installed, make sure to comply withthe PLANNING INFORMATION paragraph E.(2) and in accordancewith ROLLS-ROYCE Service Bulletin No. RB211-78-AH677.
