Abstract
The aim of this seminar is to get familiar with
Parametric Sketches, its importance & Benefits.
Spur Gear & its design & parametric modelling of
spur gear using software CATIA V5.
Benefits of Parametric Sketching
1. Quick Modification
2.Testing of Mechanisms
3.Creation of Design Rules
Spur Gear

(Pitting Failure)
Designing Parametrically Parameter: a, m, Z (Key Parameters)
Procedure:
1.Start Generative Shape Design W/S
2.Enter Parameter & Formulae
3. Checking Parametric Generation
a.Define primary generation parameter
b.Define dependent parameter
c. Check primary & computed
parameter
d.Create geometric body & insert
element
e.Make geometric profile of first tooth
f. Extrapolate spline to centre
g.Rotate involute of curve for symmetry
h.Create rounded corner of next tooth
i.Asemble tooth elements of first tooth
j.Build whole gear profile & extrude
Conclusions
1. The parametric 3D computer modelling process works like a conventional numerical spreadsheet.
2. By storing the relationships between the various features of the design and treating these relationships like mathematical equations,
3. It allows any element of the model to be changed and automatically
4. Regenerates the model in much the same way that a spreadsheet automatically recalculates any numerical changes.
5. Such parametric model becomes a "living" model one that is constantly responsive to change offering a degree of design flexibility not previously available.
6. The same technology also allows curved surfaces to be "rationalized" into flat panels, demystifying the structure and building components of highly complex geometric forms so they can be built economically and efficiently.
