Assessment 101
The Basics
Personality assessment is based upon psychological research, observation and surveys that
demonstrate that adults have observable personality traits and behavior that is consistent,recognizable and measurable. There are numerous surveys and instruments for measuring these
traits available to managers to evaluate potential employees, increase communication betweenemployees and facilitate team building.
At Stuart Morris & Associates Inc. we have chosen two surveys that have proven accuracy. They
are the Professional Dynametric Program (PDP ) and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) .The PDP is used for selecting staff members who have the natural traits and behavior that are a
match for the demands of the job. The MBTI is highly useful for assisting teambuilding,
communication and educating management about motivating and supporting their team membersto be highly productive.
We utilize these two easily administered surveys to give us information about how a prospectiveemployee is likely to fit the demands of a particular job. We also use them to look at the
dominant thinking/cognitive styles present in a work team and how that might effect the teams
productivity and outcomes. Knowing what these traits and preferences are prior to hiring an
individual greatly increases the success at predicting whether an individual will comfortably fitinto an organization and easily and naturally perform the tasks of a particular job.
Pre-employee assessment gives managers additional information which one may not be able todiscern in the interview process or uncover by checking references. Pre-employment assessment
and team building assessment gives hiring managers additional information to make sound hiring
and team building decisions. It assists management in effectively utilizing manpower and
managing personnel with insight into individual strengths, motivation and weaknesses.
The PDP and MBTI
PDP
The PDP is a survey that measures 6 different modes of behavior in normal adults in the work place. The PDP was developed by several psychologists at the University of Colorado, in the late
70's, for the express purpose of providing businesses with a tool for selection of employees and
team building. The PDP can be administered in ten minutes. It is easily scored on a computer and provides in depth reports covering an individuals natural self, current stress affecting that
individual and how that individual appears to others at the time they took the survey. Individuals
who have taken the PDP have reported that the survey is 96% accurate.
MBTI
The MBTI is an indicator that takes 30 to 40 minutes to administer. It measures how one isenergized and interacts with the outside world, how one prefers to take in information, how one
prefers to make decisions and how one tends to interact with the environment. The MBTI has
been in use since the 1950's and is the most widely used teambuilding and personality inventory

in the world.
In Conclusion
We at Stuart Morris & Associates, Inc. have done literally thousands of profiles and have a depth
of understanding of individual differences that is grounded in years of experience in applying
assessment results to the employment needs of our clients.
