    Adverbs Mrs. Girijah Balakrishnan An Adverb tells us more about verbs.

    It also tells us how somebody or something happens.

    It usually comes after a verb or doing word.

    Verb Adverb

    Examples: 1 Anand drives carefully along

    the narrow road.

    2 It rained heavily in my area.

    Most adverbs usually end with a ly but for some we do

    not use ly

    Example: fast, hard and late.

    Rohan runs fast.

    Bala works hard for his exam.

    Gokul comes late to work.

    *Remember:

    Do not mistake an adjective for an adverb.

    Sometimes an adjective too comes after a verb but it does

    not say anything more about the action.

    Examples: Look at the difference.

    Adjectives Adverbs

    Describe looks, feeling, Describe how the actionsound, taste or smell. was done.

    The bag is heavy. It rained heavily.

    You looktired. She smiled sweetly.

    I am hungry. He ate hungrily.
