NATIONAL SKILL COMPETITION

(LKS) - XXI 2013

Description of skill

The competition is to reflect the traditional, current and emerging technologiesused in the electrical installation contracting industry. The competitors are tocomplete test projects designed for typical commercial or domestic electricalinstallations.

Competency and scope of work

The Competition is a demonstration and assessment of the competencies

associated with this skill. The test project consists of practical work only.

Competency specification

Competitors must be competent in the use of necessary and appropriatetechniques to complete the modules. These competencies include:o Measuring and marking of installation materials and equipmento Measuring and installing equipment and pipeso Manual bending of pipeso Sawing, drilling and de-burringo Working with and assembling materials made from metal and plastico Wiring and connecting switches, control devices and consumer applianceso Modification and addition to installations and/or circuits to alter the function

Theoretical knowledge is required but not tested explicitly

The theoretical knowledge is limited to that necessary to carry out the practicalwork the programming of electronic and electromechanical components(programmable relay/smart relay, programmable logic controllers), readingdrawings, sketches and schematic diagrams.

Practical work

The competitor must be able to demonstrate a range of skills in the installation ofelectrical equipment, wiring systems and structured cabling systems. Thecompetitor must be able to carry out all required inspection, testing andcommissioning for all relevant modules. When the test project is completed, it mustbe tested by the competitor and the results submitted in writing.

The test project will consist of the following modules:

Module A Domestic and/or commercial installation

o 6 hours maximumo Competitors use these instructions to design the installation using materials

from their own.o Materials (conduit, cable ducts, and cables) are provided by the committee.

Components of must be brought and prepared themselves by competitors.o If a programmable device is included in the installation, the competitor must

bring the device with them.o It is up to the competitor to choose which systems he prefers to use.o The program itself is not part of the marking; only requested function will be

marked as per Instructions circulated.

Instructions for module A

o Competitors must design a circuit that will meet the project specificationsusing materials and equipment from their homelands.

o Competitors must carry all equipment necessary to build the project.o Competitors who choose to use a programmable device, it must bring your

own (programmable device) or a laptop with the appropriate software.o All equipment for this module must be in condition "like new".o Pre-programming, pre-cable, pre-bent, pre-assembly, pre-cut (a certain

length), etc. not allowed.

Note : Organizer will provide materials that be informed at Module A Material Listonly.

Module B Control circuit installation

o 6 hours maximum.o Material provided by the committee.o Specific components (marked "*)" in the list of materials) must be brought

and prepared themselves by competitors.o Drawings to be circulated 1 months prior to the competition.

General instructions for all modules

Test specifications:o Insulation resistance The minimum resistance between any current

carrying conductors and any other conductors or earth may not be less than1 M, tested at a voltage of 500 V DC with an insulation resistance tester.

o Earth continuity resistance The maximum resistance between the mainincoming earth terminal and any point on the installation required to beearthed may not be more than 0.5 .

o Polarity phase pin socket outlet located on the left or clockwise from the

grounding pin.

Instructions for competitors

o Test project module B competitors must work in accordance with drawingsand technical requirements

o Competitors must perform checking the materials and components. Theycan request a replacement 10 minutes before the start of the competition ifthere is anything wrong.

o All technical terms and descriptions used in the test project must be inaccordance with SNI/PUIL 2000 standards and terms, if applicable.

o All dimensions must be from specific reference lines (datum lines).o Cable and conduit measurements are to the centre of the cable/conduit.o Duct and equipment measurements are to the centre or edge of the

duct/equipment.o Bend for PVC and metal conduit, standard radius cannot be less than six

times the external diameter of the conduit. Bend radius for standard cablecannot be less than three times the cable diameter.

o Dimensional tolerance 2 mm for the dimensions of length 0 to 500 mmand 5 mm for the dimensions of length over 500 mm in length.

o During the competition, competitors must read the drawing itself. Not

allowed to talk to each other.o Prohibited connect the power source to the project without the approval of

experts.o When the work is completed, competitors must clean up the environment

prior to commissioning.

Module AProject specifications

You have the task to undertake an electrical installation on a property in aremote area of your country. This property has horses and so a gate is requiredat the main entrance. The only problem with a gate is that every time theowners want to enter or leave the property they need to get out of the car toopen and close the gate.They have requested you to design an installation so that once a motion

detector detects motion a solenoid opens the solenoid operated gate (this maybe represented by a light L1). As soon as the solenoid loses power the gateautomatically closes. The owners have also requested to include a drivewaylight (L2) and a light in the garage (L3).

Operation

Once motion has been detected the gate (L1), and lights L2 and L3 will

come on simultaneously.

After 10 sec the gate (L1) will close.

Driveway light L2 will remain on for another 10sec. This will give the driver

time to get to the house.

The light (L3) is to be switched off manually

The sub-switchboard is to be installed in the garage, the owner also require

a socket outlet to be installed in the garage for the use of portable plug-in

appliances in the garage.

The Installation is to be carried out using as a minimum all the equipmentlisted below:

2 m of metal conduit (including 2 90 degree manually formed bends)

2 m of PVC conduit (including 2 90 degree manually formed bends)

1 m of flexible conduit.

4 m of NYM Cable

1 Distribution Board / Panel box completed with safety protection devices

1 Switched metal socket outlet
