Welcome to our JCYC 3rd Mid-Year Concert 2008.

We thank you all for sparing your time to enjoy our beloved children’s performance.

Our utmost gratitude goes to God, who has provided precious chance to JCYC to perform this year’s concert with their vocal talent just for God and all of us.

We truly appreciate the hard works of Mr. Rizal A. Tandrio, who has trained and developed our children’s singing talent well.

Of course, this concert would not have been done without your supports, including those from the donators, sponsors, parents, Jakarta Choral Society Management, the Crew, the Accompanist, Music Director as well as SD Kristen Lemuel 2 Choir.

JAKARTA CHILDREN & YOUTH CHORUS JAKARTA CHILDREN & YOUTH CHORUS

JAKARTA CHILDREN & YOUTH CHORUS (JCYC) is one of the children and youth choral activities independently managed by JAKARTA CHO-RAL SOCIETY (JCS) since April 2005, under the guidance of RIZAL A. TANDRIO, one Indonesia’s most talented young conductors, having a reputation in children and youth choirs with experiences extending to various choral competitions, at national and international levels. JCYC consists of a group of students coming from various primary schools, junior and senior high schools in Jakarta and nearby areas, forged as an arena for those having talent in vocal and great interest to gain the chance to sing in a choral group. JCYC is also a training group for students with talents in vocal to be good singers or choir masters.

The JCYC activities cover regular practices, services, and concerts every semes-ter, tour-concerts, national and international competitions, recordings, joint recreations, public performances, such as those in malls and cafes, product launchings as well as apartment soft launchings, etc.

It is desired the existence of JCYC would add to the diversity of the quality children and youth choirs in Indonesia.

RIZAL A. TANDRIO, choir director

RIZAL A. TANDRIO is one of Indonesian young talented conductors, having the reputation as children and youth choir master with experiences in various national and the international choral competitions. Rizal’s top international choir achievements were those done by his trained choir with the honour of “GOLDEN DIPLOMA” and “SILVER MEDAL” in categories YOUTH CHOIR of EQUAL VOICES and FOLKLORE WITH INSTRU-MENTAL ACCOMPANIMENT, respectively, in the 2004

3rd CHOIR OLYMPICS in Bremen, Germany.

Meanwhile, Rizal’s top national choir achievements were those done by his trained choir with the honour of 1st WINNER and GOLDEN DIPLOMA in three periods of time in a row, i.e. 2002, 2004, and 2006 in Indonesia’s most prestigious biennial Choir Festival held by Bandung Institute of Technology (FPS-ITB) Indonesia.

Furthermore, Rizal successfully escorted his choir as the SECOND INDONESIAN CHOIR, successfully taking home the FPS-ITB AWARD CUP from the ITB RECTOR to be the property of the choir.

In February 6-10, 2008, Rizal was selected among 60 people around the world inviting joining the 1st International Forum Voice, Youth and Arts Management in Caen, France held by International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM).

Currently, Rizal’s activities in the Indonesian choirs are as the Director of the Jakarta Choral Society, and a conductor in various choirs as well as providing choral workshops and being a jury in several Indonesian choir competitions. Rizal is registered as an active member of International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) and American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Formal Education : Undergraduate of Engineer-ing Dept. Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta. Paulus’ musical background was gained from prac-tising organ in “Yayasan Pusat Pendidikan Musik (YPPM)” since 1989, then learning to play church or-gan from Mr. Kurniawan of the St. Maria de Fatima church, and his ability was developed to other musical instruments, such as piano, guitar and electone.

Paulus’ techniques for choral practice and conducting were gained from Mr. Joseph Kristanto Pantioso during Paulus’ stay in the Gita Swara Jaya Choir (PSGSJ) of the Unika Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta. Paulus went with PSGSJ to various competitions and festivals and held a number of concerts. Paulus’ further progress was obtained from a number of seminars and master classes for vocal, conducting and basic composition.

Currently, Paulus is active as the musical director of Jakarta Choral Society, trainer, conductor and pianist of several churches’ choir, vocal groups and institu-tions in Jakarta.

INGRID M. CAHYA, soloist pianist

Ingrid M. Cahya started her fi rst music lesson at the age of eight with Ibu Veronica. At 10 she served as a church organist, mentored by Martin Runi. From 1991-1995 Ingrid practised piano under Any Yohana Setiawati. Since 2000 she studied with Latiefah Kodijat-Marzoeki, Iswar-gia R. Sudarno and Adelaide Simbolon. She participated in many master classes conducted among others Martyn van den Hoek, Hansjörg Koch, Ananda Sukarlan, Peter Wild, Geoff rey Saba, Justus Zeyen, Aemilia B.M. Teguh, and Stephan Imorde.

In 2005 Ingrid passed the ABRSM Diploma examination. Since 2002 Ingrid took vocal classes as a minor subject at the Jakarta Conservatory of Music, initially

under the tutelage of Rozana Unsulangi, and at a later stage under Binu D. Sukaman & Budi Utomo Prabowo. In 2005, she joined a vocal master class conducted by Odilia van der Crusje.

Currently Ingrid is an active member of SCHOLA IACARTENSIS a Gregorian Choir.Ingrid is also interested in music theory and history. She took her lesson in music theory and harmony under Yohanes Bintang Prakarsa for 3 years (2003 ‒ 2006) and in the end of year 2007, Ingrid passed her grade 8 music theory (ABRSM) with Distinction.

A Bachelor in Agricultural Science, Ingrid is an active faculty member of the Jakarta Conservatory of Music, where she specializes in teaching young children. Her personality and teaching methods instill confi dence and love for music for her many students, which thereby motivating them to practise regularly.

During the Academic year 2006-2007 she taught music theory at Santa Ursula Junior High School in Jakarta. Apart from her busy schedule at the Jakarta Conservatory of Music, Ingrid still fi nds time to teach two days a week at Vivace Music Centre in Bogor and work as a copyist for Ananda Sukarlan.

LIVIANA OEY, choir pianist

Born in Jakarta, on December 23rd,1986. She started her piano lesson at the age of 11. Her major piano teachers are Mrs.Wu Ye Ling, Henoch Kristianto, B.A., DR.Hendry Wijaya, Wanni Bongawan,M.Mus and now she’s studying with Mario Santoso, M.Mus. at her third year in Conserv-atory of Music, University of Pelita Harapan with Major in Piano Performance.

She has won many awards, such as: 1st winner of Bali Open Piano Competition, 3rd winner of Gracia Piano

Competition 2005, 2nd winner of Gracia Piano Competition 2006, 2nd winner of the 1st UPH Internal Piano Competition, 3rd winner of E.L.M.S International Piano & Chamber Music Competition.

Besides competition, she also join master class as an active participant at Master classes by Esther Budiardjo, Marco Sollini and Barbatore Salvatore, Eriko Takezawa, Christian Ostrander, Mamoru Yabuki and Mina Yamaguchi.

In 2006, she had her Duo Piano Recital with Keniawaty in Erasmus Huis, Dutch Culture Centre and her Solo Recital in the year of 2007. She also participated in Jakarta International Summer Music Festival held by DR. Kuei Pin Yeo, 2007.

TEGUH SANTOSO (‘SIR’ Teguh), English translator here

Born in Malang on May 13, 1969, Teguh is often called “Sir” Teguh as he teaches English. He gained his musicality from a piano practice with a Dutch lady in Ma-lang and had another in Jakarta. Singing is his hobby, once winning an award for a Karaoke contest and joined the CAVIDO choir in St. Yohanes Penginjil Church (Blok B) for 10 years, and Studio Cantorum Bandung for al-most a year, while completing his master degree in In-

donesia University of Education (UPI) since 2005. SIR also arranges trainings in Bandung related to English, including the trainings of science and math in English (Cambridge syllabus) and has been one of research and development staff in BPK PENABUR Jakarta. Currently, SIR is teaching at a Brilliant Class of SMAK BPK PENABUR Gading Serpong and at SMAK 1, SMAK 2, and SMAK 3 BPK PENABUR Bandung.

In terms of achievements, with God’s willing, SIR won two ASEAN Awards (the Virtual Forum for Language Teachers) from SEAMEO RELC Singapore presented in April 2002 and November 2003. Previously, he won 1st and 2nd Awards in writing competitions at both the National and Jakarta levels of BPK PENABUR in 2000 and 2002, respectively, as well as becoming the 1st Winner in 2001 Com-petence Competition for Senior High in Jakarta held by Regional Offi ce of Indone-sian MOE. Recent activities include being the speaker in December 2006 TEFLIN Conference and won one award in Indonesian Amazing Minds Conference and was sent to Thailand in February 2008 to represent Indonesia with 4 other envoys to be speakers in ASEAN Amazing Minds for 3 days.

SD KRISTEN LEMUEL II CHOIR SD KRISTEN LEMUEL II CHOIR

Based on the Words in Psalm 92:2, i.e. “It is wonderful each morning to tell about your love and at night to announce how faithful you are”, a choir of a Christian School named LEMUEL II, therefore, was etablished with the mission, “Through children’s voices, the name of God is glorifi ed”. Each student with a choral talent takes part in the choir in addition to the regular practices held every Friday by the extra-curricular choir.

From several events, the achievements have been good, e.g. in 2001 becoming the 1st Winner in Choral competition held by the Church of “Gereja Kristus” Petamburan as well as competitions held by the government in commemorating the Indonesian Independence Day.

The current children choir is the regeneration of the church choir already existing since 1998. However, they have got the same mission, with motto “Give them for Jesus”.

YOHANES LATUMENTEN, conductor

Born in Jakarta on March 10, 1976, Yohanes Latumeten is interested in sports and singing. Currently, he is serving God in the Gereja Kristus Petamburan in Lemuel I choir. In 2005, Yohanes won the 1st Winner in Vocal Group DKI Jakarta level.

At Lemuel School, Yohanes is an instructor, preparing students to serve God in the Praise and Testimony as well as services in Gereja Kristus Petamburan.

Marsela Syafei was born in Jakarta, January 13th 1992. Beginning to practice playing piano at Yamaha Music School in 2000-2001, with a private teacher in 2003 until now. Her interest in singing started when she joined her Junior High School Choir in 2004 under the guidance of Rizal A Tandrio. Her excitement in choir con-tinued with joining Seven Chorale and Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus in 2004 until now.

Besides singing, Marsela has some other hobbies. She likes playing piano, watching movies and listening to music. She hopes she will be a successful person someday.

CHRISTABELLE MEGAN CHIANDAR07 07 02 0031

Christabelle Megan Chiandar was born in Cirebon, August 5th 1997. She grew up in Sorong west Papua and was interested in singing when she joined her school choir.

After moving to Jakarta in 2005, she was recruited in 2006 to join a choir called Amway Voice (sponsored by Amway Corp.) in order to do the recording for Jogyakarta earthquake fund raising activities.

Since 2007, she has been a member of Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus under the guidance of Rizal A. Tandrio.

Until now, she has been actively involved in singing and dancing activities in her school and she once did the choreography for her singing group to perform in her school anniversaries. Besides singing, Megan also likes dancing, playing piano, watching movies and listening to music. She wishes to be a successful person, either in singing or in her future career.

Priscilla Alexandra Wakkary was born in Jakarta, August 12th, 1992. Her hobbies are singing and cooking. She is very interested in music, especially in singing. She really loves singing in a choir, because her fi rst music lesson is from choir.

She has allready joined choir when she was in kinder-garten. After that, she liked studying more about mu-sic, so she started to join her junior high school choir in

2003/2004 and continued in Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus in 2004 until now under the guidance of the conductor, Rizal. A. Tandrio.

Priscilla also teaches Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus private class and children class. Her ambition is to be a psychologist. She also often sings in many places and events with Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus or in solo.

IDAM DAMAYANTI LAWOLO05 05 06 0013

The girl named Idam Damayanti Lawolo was born in Jakarta, August 2nd, 1991. She started to learn music from choir. She joined her school choir in elementary school. In 2004 she joined Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus under the guidance of the conductor, Rizal. A. Tandrio. Now she’s teaching the children class of Jakarta Children of Youth Chorus.

She’s also the choreographer in Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus and Seven Chorale. This young alto likes singing, reading novel, watching and also playing hide and seek. She has a big ambition for her future. She wants to be a good useful person for the nation, especially in industry of music of Indonesia.

She also often sings in many events, like Christmas concert, Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus Mid-Year Concert, service, and many more. She also often becomes a soloist in many choir events.

Fiona was born in Jakarta on September 8th 1993, the second child of four. Born in a family who loves music, Fiona has been fascinated with music since she was small.

Her elder sister, four years older, plays piano and taught her the very basics of playing piano. By the time she was ready, Fiona was sent to further learn piano under Linawaty Oei when she was in the second grade of el-

ementary school and currently still continuing to learn under Lim Xec Lu. Until now she has always scored distinction in the practical piano examinations held by Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Realizing her passion in singing, Fiona started to learn singing at the age of 11 un-der the guidance of Lusi Lussiani and joined the school choir, conducted by Rizal A. Tandrio, the next year.

As for now, she is a member of Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus (JCYC) while also frequently singing in churches and other ad-hoc occasions. She enjoys this as it enriches her experience and trains her to be even more professional and endur-ing.

Fiona wishes to entertain any other people in the world by singing, teaching, and making music. Besides that, she wishes to excel in her studies and hopes to be a successful all-round woman beyond her music ability in the future.

This young girl named Fidella Graine was born on August 27th, 1992 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Almost all of her entire life is delicated to music.

She started to walk the way of music in 2001, when she was only 9 years old. She took the organ courses at that time under the guidance of Ms. Elly and Mr. Kuntjoro. Hertanto. She is getting more and more excited in music when she was 12 years old. That was when she got into

the school choir.

She is very excited in choir. That’s why she joined Jakarta Children and Youth Chorus from 2004 until now under the guidance of the conductor, Rizal. A.Tandrio. Not only attending the choir, she is also a teacher of organ course.

Singing and playing organ are not the only ability that she can do. She also practices violin. She has been learning it since she was in junior high school. Be-sides violin, she learns how to play piano by herself (autodidact). Playing piano is one of her hobbies. Her hobbies are singing, listening to the music, and watching movie.

Besides that, she also often sings in many events and competition with her choir which has already got many achievements too.

Currently Jevi Septyani Latief, born in 28th September 1994 is a 1st grade of junior high school student. She began to study music when she was 5 years old.

Her fi rst music education was at Cantata School of Music in 1999, majoring in classic piano. Her fi rst time choir experience was when she joined JCYC in 2005.

Under the guidance of Mr. Rizal A Tandrio as choir conductor, she has had her musical knowledge improved to a certain level. As a result, she was selected as a Seven Chorale member in 2006.

Jevi has taken musical education as seriously as her formal education. She is will-ing to give her hard work to excel in both music and formal education.

LAURINE JOSEPHINE, born in Jakarta, April 11, 1988, began to actively participate in choir and love singing since her primary school period until fi nally became her hobby, in addition to the guitar playing, sports and her interest in cinematography.

This Batch 1 of Jakarta Children & Youth Chorus (JCYC) once joined a course of classical guitar play for three years under the guidance of Mr. Bambang as well as tak-

ing the vocal lesson for 6 months in the Music School Gloriamus.

Laurine’s earlier motivation in choir fi eld was molded as she enjoyed the vocal activities as her hobby. However, fi nally the choral activities turned into her routines and own pride in her life.

Since Laurnie took a further study, she had to give up all her choral activities, particularly with JCYC & Seven Chorale (SC). After she left JCYC & SC, her current activities include English course and services in her Church children and youth choir.

Maria Melissa Acintya, or Cintya as her nickname, was born on April 1st, 1991. At fi rst, Cintya joined the choir in Year 2 in choral church. At last, in Year 7, this coff ee lover started to become serious in the choral practice under the guidance of Rizal A. Tandrio. In the beginning joining choir was just killing her time. Soon, choir becomes her hobby.

As a student with a lot of compiling tasks, this young woman, who is keen on English literature, usually spends her time for reading, writing, practising piano, and of course, before graduating, having a choir prac-tice.

Recently, Cintya has concentrated on her piano practice, which has become one of her reasons to graduate from JCYC & SC. Cintya started to learn piano at the age of 4 at Yamaha Music Course (YMC).

After quitting YMC, Cintya took a further study in the music school led by Dr. Kuei Pin Yeo, the Jakarta School Music. Cintya learnt from Yola Mathilda, Dr. Kuei Pin Yeo herself, as well as Mr. Soetarno Soetikno.

Cintya handphone reads, “There isn’t anyone without any desires. If there are peo-ple who claim to have no desires, they just don’t know the depths of their hearts.”

Remita Marsa Krisnando, with her nickname, Remita, was born on Christmas’ Eve, December 24th 1989.

Began singing as a hobby, and actively participate in choir at her primary school period as well as taking the private piano lesson for one year.

In terms of motivation, Remita was enthusiastic in joining choir to learn good singing techniques as well as looking

for new experiences. As time passed by, she was even eager to sing in a choir under the guidance of Rizal A.Tandrio.

ISABELA CLARISSA05 05 07 0014

Born in Jakarta, Dec. 25, 1990, Isabela Clarissa began to do her hobby by singing in the vocal course at Modernland Kawai. After several months, Isabella moved to the Music School-Music Education Foundation (SM-YPM), focusing on piano for 5 years.

Besides having her hobby for playing piano, Isabela is fond of reading, making puzzles related to numbers, and enjoying the sky in the late afternoon. In addition to her

piano practice, Isabella practised tennis for 5 years, followed by table tennis by using left hand since year 6 until now.

With her wish to sing in harmony, and to gain new experiences, Isabela joined Jakarta Children & Youth Chorus (JCYC) in 2006 (Batch 5). Whilst in JCYC & Seven Chorale (SC), she admitted gaining important lessons, such as discipline, socialization, leadership, family, and independence. She could not forget various wonderful and unforgettable experiences while singing in JCYC and SC.

Because of being occupied at school, Isabela graduated this year and now is con-centrating on school activities as well as her weekly table-tennis practices.

This Batch 2 member of Jakarta Children & Youth Chorus (JCYC) was joining a course of ballet dance since 1999 under the guidance of Mrs. Sri Hajadi, Mrs. Susan Juwono, and Ms. Recca Badia.

Therefore, she is often asked to be the choreographer for JCYC. Not only that, currently, she is joining gospel dance at her church.

Remita, who loves reading very much, was very enthusiastic in studying foreign languages. She studied Japanese for three years (2004-2007) and Korean for one year (2007-2008). Nowadays, she is eager to study French.

Remita’s reason to give up all her choir activities in JCYC and Seven Chorale (SC) was to concentrate on her study and to prepare her Final Exam this year. After graduating from high school, she wants to pursue her further study in Malaysia.

JULIA CHRISTI05 05 09 0016 Julia Christi, with her nickname, Julia, was born in Jakarta, July 20, 1990. Began to learn piano in 2000 at Yamaha Music School under the guidance of Rinto Rini. Julia’s hobby is singing, especially that in choir. It started when Julia joined the church choir and vocal group. In her spare time, Julia loves playing piano, listening to songs, reading novels and currently is also attempting to write a novel.

Julia was a member of Jakarta Children & Youth Chorus (JCYC) Batch 5. At fi rst, her motivation to joining choir was her hobby of singing in a group, and her inter-est in learning good singing techniques.

Julia was enthusiastic in further exploring the world of choir, and digging out her creativity as it was not only the good musicality taught, but also the choreography and some other aspects.

The reason why Julia graduated from JCYC & Seven Chorale (SC) then was to focus her school lessons fi rst. Meanwhile, her current activities include school studies, courses and services in Church.
