Innovation – Transient Voltage Resistant™ Transformer (TVRT™)Reliability and protection against voltage transients
21
Peace of mind for switching transients
Transformer designed to specifically resist any and all fast transients produced
during switching
– Ideal for installations where reliability is the number one importance
– Works in any system and for any switching environment; does not require a
system study
– Solution is completely dry, does not increase transformer dimensions, lower cost,
and more effective than other solutions
– Also available for renewable energy generation

Innovation – TXpand | Rupture resistant transformer solutions, enhancing safety and minimizing environmental impact
22
Reduce risk to increase safety, protect the environment and keep the power flowing
TXpand is a new power transformer technology for rupture resistance
Transformers with this technology can literally expand, absorbing energy from
faults, resisting a possible rupture and turning a potential safety hazard into a
manageable event
ABB has developed TXpand through careful analysis and modelling to mitigate
the risk to increase safety by:
– Strengthening critical areas
– Making rigid areas more flexible
– Integrating rupture points to take control of the most unpredictable failures
Solution successfully validated successfully in a third party lab: tank being
the world’s first test of this kind on a power transformer
