CoreValuesandAmbitions

One of the core values of the University’s administrative philosophy is that re searchers and teachers are more than capable to organise, determine and structure their own work. Howdoesauniversityfunction?

Leiden University is made up out of seven faculties, each governed by a faculty board under the chairmanship of a dean. Each faculty in turn is divided into several institutions, governed by an institutional board. The University as a whole is governed by the Executive Board (CvB) under the chairmanship of the director of the University, also known as the Rector Magnifi cus. This role has been fulfilled by Professor Carel Stolker since 2013. The CvB is assisted by the Administration and Central Services department and several service units.

An organisational unit with special status are the University Libraries (UBL). On faculty level and interfaculty level there are also several other units for research, or education for specific target groups.

Danielle van Osch‘t Hof van Eten

It’s small but I consider this to be a hidden gem: ‘t Hof van Eten. A lunchroom with a fenced off outside seating area that serves original dishes. Soups, salads, and sandwiches are all prepared on site. It can be very busy due to its small size but don’t be fooled. It still is a place that manages a personal touch in a classy but also relatively informal setting. You might find it in the ‘Oude Molstraat’, located in the city centre. This street that runs parallel with the ‘Noordeinde’ and could very well become your go-to location, given the many bars, restaurants and that wonderful French bakery: Michel.

Constant HijzenHofjes

The Hague has many interesting ‘hofjes’, most often hidden, but usually very much worth the effort of trying to find them. During your lunchbreak you could easily visit the ‘Henriette Hofje’ on the ‘Denneweg’ (numbers 72 – 82), where the resistance leader Siewert de Koe used to live before he was taken away by the Germans during WW2, but the ‘Hofje van Severie’ (Noordeinde 104 – 120) is also utterly charming and within walking distance.

Vincent WoltersTip!

The university has its own sports facilities in The Hague where you can practice over 15 different sports. As employee you will receive a generous discount on a subscription with the University’s Sports Centre ‘The Buzz’. Offset the costs of your subscriptionOn top of that it is also possible to offset your sub-scription fees against your gross salary by using the Individual Choices Model. By doing so, you will save another 40%. You will pay only €10.35 a month!
