IH London is famous in the English language industry for its teacher training and employers notice a trained by IH London teacher.
We will be with you every step of the way. Here are a few reasons to trust us with your ambitions.
Our teaching experts speak at the world-famous teaching event IATEFL and we host our own annual teaching conference. Many of the leading ELT course books have been produced by International House trainers past and present, for example New Cutting Edge and English Unlimited.
IH London teaches across the full learning journey: young learners, English for adults, exams, professional learners, teacher training and other modern languages. Our broad range of experience means we can train teachers across all of these areas too.
We have always valued the very best teaching. Our founders, John and Brita Haycraft, pioneered the first teacher training qualification that is now known as the CELTA. Worldwide, the CELTA is still the industry standard for teachers.
We were named Best Value School by the EL Gazette, July 2018*.
We are one of the largest IELTS test centres in Europe and an accredited centre for Cambridge exams, BULATS for business English and OET for medical English. We know how to train teachers to help students pass their exams.
Teaching for over 65 years, International House London predates the now global brand International House World. We are now part of a global network of 160 schools, which connect to offer you career opportunities.
We have courses throughout the year at our school in Covent Garden, London and online. We also have summer short courses at our teacher training campus in Oxford.
We train teachers at every stage of their career: from complete beginner to the most advanced practitioner. We can also offer teacher training consultancy to schools anywhere in the world.
We have pioneering partnerships. We are the only school to offer the Distance Delta in partnership with the British Council. We were the first school in London to offer face-to-face OET preparation courses for medical English.

I love teaching and training. As you teach your students or teacher participants, you learn about them as individuals, about their ideas and their culture. You are changed by those experiences.
The move from being a new teacher to being an experienced and skilled teacher requires more than time. You need to have new ideas, and experiences. IH teacher training courses offer the chance to think deeply about new ideas and give you the knowledge and confidence to change your teaching. Teachers have to keep learning!Charlotte Thompson, Director of Teacher Training
Teaching support for life
You will be able to join our exclusive members only ‘Trained by IH London’ online groups and be part of our global community.
We stay in touch with our teachers to share industry news and career opportunities, and to see just how far an IH London course takes you.
We also love to see teachers sharing their stories, tips and support with each other.
Teacher training conference
We hold a teacher training conference and invite people to speak on their area of expertise, alongside famous ELT names like Adrian Underhill. We shape the industry with conferences on topics such as The Future of Training. We want you to be part of that with us.

Paulette works directly with Cambridge English, part of the University of Cambridge, on their Delta qualifications for Modules 1, 2 and 3.
When I started my first training course to become a teacher, I immediately fell in love with the career and knew this was the one for me! In teacher training you get to experience that great moment of discovery and enthusiasm on each course you work on. I love helping fellow professionals get real joy from working and developing in the field.
We are in the learning business – this is what we do! This is what we discuss at lunch, in our breaks, after work in the staffroom. We are constantly listening to and watching our students and trainee teachers to see how we can better help them learn.
We hope they will share our love for the profession and go away keen to try out what they have learnt and to keep challenging themselves and reflecting on their development.Paulette Milego, Distance Delta Programme Manager

COURSE OUTLINEThere are two components to the course: The Training Course (online) and The Teaching Practice Course (face-to-face). The organisation can choose to run one of the course parts or both.
The Training Course is a tutored online course for in-service teachers. It combines study materials and classroom tasks to develop practical teaching skills in the context where the teachers are working. The course materials include study notes, tasks, filmed teaching clips, interviews and tips. The tutor supports and discusses topics with the participants in forums. Assessment is through participation and assessed tasks.
The Teaching Practice Course is run face-to-face at your institution. It is a programme of observation of the teachers and feedback on their lessons. This helps the teachers to improve their skills. Assessment is through submitted lesson plans and teaching.
ONLINE TOPICS:
› Teacher and learner beliefs about how languages are learned
› Classroom management and the role of the teacher
› Language analysis: teaching and checking meaning
› Lesson planning
› Ways to teach language
