Thewoodsareahavenforwoodcock.Theselargelynocturnal,bulkywadingbirdswithalongbill,areexpertsincamouflage,enjoydensecoverandcanbequiteelusive.Risingquickly,theycanstartletheunwarypedestrian!Butaswithmanyindigenousbirds,theyareindecline.Deeralsomovethroughthewoodsandawellplacedtrailcameraissuretoprovidesomeevidenceoftheirmovements.

Thereisastreamflowingalongthenorthernboundarybetweenthewoodsandtheneighbouringfieldsandisagreatdrawtobothmammalsandbirdlifealike.

Accessfromthemainroadisoverasharedstonetrack,entrancetothemainwoodlandisthroughalockablewoodengate.Thereisalsoapedestriangate.Thetrackleadingtotheindividualwoodsareofgoodconditionwithlittlemaintenancerequired.Somepathshavebeenopenedupbutthereisplentyofscopeforfurtherwork.

Allsportingrightsaresoldwiththewoodland.

ThesurroundingareaofLochLomondandtheTrossachsgainedmuchpopularitywiththepublicationofSirWalterScott's1810poem'TheLadyoftheLake'.ThepoemgivesarollcallofTrossachsplacenames,theladyherselfbeingfoundonLochKatrine.

Scottfollowedupwithhis1817historicalnovelRobRoy,romanticisingtheoutlawcattlethiefRaibertRuadhbornbyLochKatrineandburiedatnearbyBalquhidder.
