Proud to be an Indian

Proudly rejoicing the 74th Independence Day of the country, Salwan Public School,

Gurugram, with utmost indebtedness and reverence, paid tribute to the great

contribution of freedom fighters, soldiers and countrymen who laid down their lives on

the altar of independence. In this regard, the fortnight long celebrations culminated on

the Independence Day imbued Salwanians with the ardent spirit of patriotism. This was

evident during the virtual classroom sessions which were run in the form of discussions,

documentaries and videos play, creative activities e.g. designing and crafting making

learners know more about India, its dynamism, versatility along with everything which

is being done to drive its rise at full throttle. From Skill India to Make In India, from Start-

up India to Accelerating Growth of India's Innovation, from Swachh Bharat to Fit India

and from Atam Nirbhar Bharat to India of My Dreams, the learners presented myriad

shades of India.

This Independence Day exclusive newsletter edition is a fulfilling journey through a

spectrum of incredible activities performed during the virtual classroom sessions. Huge

appreciation is reserved for the students whose amazing zeal and awesome creativity

reflect their mighty aspirations and commitment to take India to the top.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear All

Despite all this revelation, it's ironical that we as humans, purportedly the most intelligent creature fail to see

reason. The way we are recklessly reverting to our pre-Corona routine is nothing but a blatant display of our

wishful thinking and insensitivity. Millions of people have already succumbed to this pandemic but still we

dare to live in an illusion that Corona will spare us. I don't mean even in the remotest sense that you should

not return to your normal lives, rather I want you to be alert enough and conduct yourselves with complete

preparedness and a lot more thoughtfulness towards nature. Government has started campaigns like Run for

India, Gandagimukt Bharat etc. Let's ensure mass participation in them by motivating each other and in

turn spruce up our surroundings. Gandagimukt Bharat should not remain confined to the physical

surroundings only but also be construed as a call to edify our soul. We have to purge our stress, rancour, greed

and selfishness to make it possible. It's extremely heart-rending to see some rogue elements exploiting this

pandemic situation as a lifetime opportunity to fleece the poor and helpless people. In their lust for money,

they fail to realize the horrible fallout of their karmas.

Let's all join hands to bring smile on everyone's face, let's treat this pandemic as an opportunity bestowed upon

us by God to add to our tally of good karmas. Let's support each other in these tough times by shedding all our

negative feelings as Kal Ho Na Ho.

Wishing you all a very happy 74th Independence Day!!

It's said that Freedom begets responsibilities and the latter is directly related to duties. Given the current

scenario, I think somewhere we all, more or less, neglected our duties and stretched our freedom beyond

proportions. This triggered a massive backlash in the form of nature's wrath with the latest repercussion

being the COVID-19 pandemic. Now when we have miserably been locked up in our homes, this realization

has begun to dawn on us as how callous and brutal we have been to innocent animals and birds who due to the

terror of running down under our vehicles or being hunted have been locked up for years. The lockdown has

certainly provided them a rare respite to move around freely but at the same time, it has also taught us as

how vital is their freedom to our world, how closely our destinies are linked.

SPECTRUM OF EVENTS

START-UP INDIA“India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the

grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most

instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!” – Mark Twain

Imbued with a deep sense of patriotism and pride for the

country, Salwan Public School, Sector 15(II), Gurugram began

the Pre-Independence Day celebrations through virtual

sessions. The ten-day run-up with a variety of special themes

was conceptualised with a motive to acclaim the landmark

achievements of the country and spread awareness among the

young generations. Classes from Pre-Primary–XII

enthusiastically participated in the program. August 4, 2020

(Day 1) was marked by the theme “Start Up India” which is a

flagship of the Government of India to build up a strong

ecosystem for nurturing innovation and small start-ups in the

country. It intends to drive sustainable economic growth and

generate large scale employment opportunities.

The day commenced with the sharing of videos, group

discussions, organising quizzes and debates on the chosen

theme. On one side, our young learners from Pre-Primary

crooned various patriotic songs while on the other, learners of

Grade I & II essayed the National Song 'Vande Mataram'. From

Grade III onwards, the students were informed about 'Start-up

India' through various videos presentations, quiz and

discussions. Students greatly appreciated the initiatives taken by

people to contribute to the development of the country. They

learnt the nuances of entrepreneurship and appeared quite

curious about the subject. The day concluded on a happy and

positive note.

FIT INDIA

“Fitness is not just a word but an essential pillar to a healthy and prosperous life. When we

prepare our bodies for battle, we make the country strong as iron.”

A number of activities like Super Brain Yoga and

different Yoga asanas under proper supervision were

conducted for learners to get inclined towards a fit and

healthy lifestyle. An awareness drive was conducted

virtually with key dance steps to be used as a mode of

regular exercise. Not just on physical fitness, Fit India

stresses on mental and emotional well-being too. A

healthy diet, positive thoughts and a life full of

happiness contributes to the Fit India drive. Believe in

yourself every single day and you will be unstoppable is

the mantra to pursue.

Fitness is not just a word, it is a sublime feeling that must

stay with us forever. Continuing with the irrepressible

spirit of yesterday, various activities pertaining to 'Fit

India' were conducted during the Pre-Independence

Day celebrations. The programme chiefly talked about

healthy-self which in turn will make the surroundings

positive, happier and healthier.

This is a significant quote on the importance of

skill development in our day-to-day life. During

the execution of the Skill India theme, the

learners were told about the Skill India project

being run by the government. Skill India or the

National Skills Development Mission of India is a

campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra

Modi in the year 2015. It is managed by the

National Skills Development Corporation of

India. It is an endeavour to prepare a generation

of skilled employees and leaders in keeping with with the modern-day market demands.

It was launched to train over 40 crore citizens with different industry relevant skills by

2022.

The learners of Pre-Primary section enjoyed the tearing and pasting activity, whereas

learners of Grades I & II cherished the moments of celebration by knowing more about

their country viz National symbols of India. The learners from Grade 3 onwards

displayed superb zeal to showcase their talent in multiple fields. The day gave them the

opportunity to polish their innate skills. Working upon their posters, product taglines

and much more, the students ensured to pick a skill in detail that can be used for

livelihood and development. Opportunities are aplenty, hunt for the one before it slips

away from hand.

SWACHH BHARAT &

INTERNATIONAL SOLAR ALLIANCE (ISA)“Sanitation should not be seen as a political tool, but should only be connected to

patriotism and commitment to public health.”

From Grade 3 onwards, the chief objective of the

aforementioned theme was to make learners

understand the dire need of using solar power to

protect environment. They were made aware of a lot

of initiatives which are being taken to tap the benefits

of solar energy and how it can bring innumerable

gains to the country. It is definitely one of the prime

steps towards sustainable development. Learners were

shown various videos about the uses of solar energy

and a number of activities like poster making, quiz,

model making etc. marked the day. Overall, it was a

day of great learning for the students.

Swachh Bharat- One step closer towards cleanliness

showcased the glitzy self-created posters and slogans

prepared by the resolute and committed Salwanians.

A plethora of other activities were also conducted in

line with the stated theme. The students were

enlightened about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

through different write-ups and videos. They

understood the importance of good hygiene and also

learnt that it is not only the duty of the sanitation

workers but the whole society to keep the country

clean.

AGNI: ACCELERATING GROWTH OF

NEW INDIA'S INNOVATION

“ Innovation is the change that unlocks the new value”

Realising the theme- AGNI, Grade III-V conducted an

activity titled Jai Anusandhan… Nanhe Avishkari was

conducted. It aimed at stoking the spark of creativity

through inventions in home labs. During the activity,

student showcased various products they invented by

dint of their creativity and precocious talent e.g.

homemade sanitizers, clay, pesticides, manure, soap,

bubble solution, electrical fan, water fountain etc. Some

students also spoke about the inventions/innovations

which transformed the whole world e.g. wheel, paper,

mobile, computers etc.

Students from Pre-Primary celebrated the 'Cleanliness

Week' and performed different activities. Little

Salwanians were apprised of the types of dustbins with

specific colour codes. The presentation was followed by

a small quiz which was well responded by the students.

Also, they were asked to draw and colour the intended

dustbins. Simultaneously, learners of Grade I and II got

inclined to innovation and prepared home-made herbal

sanitizers.

In the senior wing, the programme commenced with a brief introduction of the Smart

Hackathon initiative taken up by the government to build a strong and self-reliant country.

The students were shown interesting videos of youngsters thinking out of box and coming

up with simple yet efficient innovations. The students, using PPTs, highlighted different

innovations that they have recently read like the use of plastics to lay roads, electric cars,

better rainwater harvesting and waste management systems in condominiums. The students

also discussed some of the simple innovations efficacious in improving the ecosystem.

The activity aimed at creating awareness among students about the idea of innovation and

motivating them to think out of the box. The students were encouraged to ask open-ended

questions so that they become better thinkers and come up with creative plans to implement

all their new-found knowledge. Also, the videos made students understand that innovations

are not hostage to the big and expensive set-up rather it's subservient to the unique idea.

Students of Class VI and VII experimented with different regional scripts of India. Prior to

the activity, they were asked to learn writing their names in five different Indian regional

scripts. They practised and enthusiastically displayed the same. They also taught each other

how to write the letters in different scripts. Students of Class VIII experimented to create an

art piece by using Binary Codes 0 and 1. They were shown a video based on the success

stories of five young brilliant Indians who brought simple and practical solutions to

complicated problems. Students were enthralled with the inspiring and innovative ideas

shown in the video clip. A video based on rendition of our National Song “Vande Mataram'

was played. Students were asked to sing along. Thereafter, a power point presentation on

history of our national song, its relevance then and today and its translation was shown.

Students participated in the discussion based on how innovative ideas in Pre-Independence

era invoked the feeling of true patriotism amongst Indians and eventually we could achieve

Independence because of the novel ideologies.

Another step closer to the Independence day, its fragrance could be

easily felt all around Salwan Public School, Gurugram. The habit of

being your own self has always been the trait taught at the early

years in the institution. Learners of Pre-Primary were apprised of

the symbols of our country and the freedom fighters . They were

explained the meaning and relevance of each of them. Learners

were made to understand the importance of national symbols for

our country. Learners of grade I and II explored the theme, 'Mera

Bharat Mahaan', and learnt about the three different types of armed

forces that India has namely, Indian Army, Indian Airforce and

Indian Navy. The learners watched a video depicting the

challenges and the hardships that a soldier faces. Also, it was told

through a video that a lot of things were invented by India. The

contribution of Aryabhata, C.V. Raman, Sushruta, Bose and many

more is unforgettable. To enliven the mood of celebration and

festivity, the session was followed by 'Janamasthmi' celebration

where emphasis was laid on cultural education and teachings of

Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna signifies Ananda (bliss, pure

happiness). Janmashtami is about celebrating the birth of bliss.

Learners and educators were dressed in the traditional attire and

shook their legs on the songs of Lord Krishna.

‘Atmanirbhar Bharat' is the vision of our honourable Prime Minister. He believes that we can

together make India a self- reliant nation. The first mention of this came in the form of the

'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' or 'Self- Reliant India Mission'. In grades III-V, activity called

Fabric Embellishment was conducted. The main aim of conducting this activity was to inculcate

the art of self-reliance in learners. The learners had to pick any garment/cloth/fabric and enhance

its look with painting, embroidery using beads, threads, sequences etc. The kids performed the

activity at home. Thereafter, the parents were guided how to upload their kids' artistic work on

Google classroom. It was indeed a pleasure to see how skilled the kids were in the whole process of

beautification. Learners of Classes VI-VIII were apprised of the meaning of the word 'Swadeshi'

followed by a video on 'Swadeshi Movement'. Students understood the relevance of the

movement in the Pre-Independence era and the need for the same in contemporary India as well.

They discussed the reasons for our dependency on other nations and the solutions to reduce this

dependency. Thereafter, through the Power Point Presentation, they displayed the procedure of

making organic manure at home along with the importance of growing vegetables. The session

concluded with an assurance given by the students to buy products made in India only to benefit

Indian manufacturers.

Learners of grades IX- XII were shown video on the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Learners

shared their points on the ideas of the government and how it can be implemented on smaller

platforms and in day-to-day activities. The whole activity was performed to acquaint students

with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” Project and to enhance the research skills through presentations

on five pillars of Atmanirbhar Bharat as given by the PM of India : Infrastructure, demography,

economy, agriculture and system. The students developed extensive research and

communication skills through the power point presentations. Overall, the activity encouraged

young innovative minds to embrace futuristic vision about the Indian economy, thus taking up

more initiatives for boosting its growth.

INDIA OF MY DREAMS“If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a

home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India”

As we march closer to the Independence Day, the sense of

belongingness and the pride runs through our blood swiftly. It has

been almost a fortnight since we have been learning new facts and

ideas about India ranging from exploring, inventing, producing and

then soaring to touch the skies thereby materialising “India of my

dreams”. The learners of Salwan Public School, Gurugram celebrated

yet another day by knowing about key monuments, focusing upon

Atithi Devo Bhava, Incredible India and much more about Indian

architecture and its beauty. They wrote slogans, poems and made

beautiful illustrations depicting the India of their dreams. They could

inculcate the responsibility towards the mother land and their duties

towards upbringing India in the true patriotic form. The learners

could make the beautiful posters using different art forms,

appreciating the beauty and the sense of belongingness. To celebrate

the theme, learners of Pre-Primary depicted the freedom fighters and

expressed their views about the India of their dreams whereas

learners of grades I & II appreciated the beauty of various historical

monuments of India.

Virtual tour gives a different perspective to the learning process. It

takes the learners to a world which is inaccessible to them at present.

Learners of grades III- V explored Red Fort through virtual tour while

in grades VI, VII, and VII, learners became familiar with the Mars

Mission and expressed their ideas and imaginations about their dream

motherland in the form of sketches, posters, self- composed poems,

write-ups and slogans. In grades IX & X, they were shown a video on

the dreams and the contributions of Sh. Pandit Girdhari Lal Salwan ji,

a strong visionary who fought throughout his life to bring his ideas of

"Education for all" and "Service before self" true to life. Learners

expressed their views on India of their dreams. They displayed their

ideas in the form which they like, of poetry, speeches, articles,

paintings, sketches, posters, song, and dance.

It was the pen-ultimate day for the celebration of the

Independence Day. The Salwan family celebrated a

fortnight for the Indian Independence Day with great pomp

and show. The activities planned gave a clear idea on the

sense of pride and patriotism in the minds of young learners.

Beautiful activities were planned for the learners through

K-12. Tricolour attire wore by everyone added zing to the

day. The little learners from nursery to grade 2 prepared a

tricolour sandwich and watched a documentary on India's

freedom struggle and explored Red Fort through a virtual

tour.

To culminate the series of Independence Day activities

which began from 4th August 2020, Special Assembly on

Independence Day was conducted by the class teachers in

grades III, IV & V. A PPT was shown to the learners

reminding them the sacrifices made by our great freedom

fighters. The origin and the meaning of our Nation's

National Anthem 'Jana-Gana-Mana' was also explained to

the learners. The learners from grades VI-VIII shared their

self-composed poems and expressed their thoughts on the

topic. The students were shown the inspirational

documentary on Late Pandit Girdhari Lal Salwan, founder

of Salwan Education Trust to get them motivated for the

selfless work towards the nation. During the Kite-making

activity, they made kites of their own and wrote patriotic

quotes on them. They also shared their thoughts on the

importance of Independence. They were shown a video on

historical facts about the Indian tricolour and its present

form. The students relished the healthy homemade Indian

cuisines and interacted with their teachers and classmates.

They had a lucid discussion on the responsibilities of

citizens towards their nations and shared their point of view

on how to make India self-reliant.

The activity for learners of grades IX & X commenced with an inspirational video depicting

the facts that make us proud of our nation. Thereafter, learners enthusiastically expressed

their visions about the theme through songs, dances, posters, videos and speeches. The

spectrum of display was awe-inspiring. Later, they glorified our freedom fighters and the

nation builders through a lively discussion about their exemplary lives.

The students of classes XI and XII wrote and presented insightful poems and articles on the

theme 'India of my Dreams'. The lockdown and pandemic did not dampen the spirit of

patriotism as the students creatively expressed their dreams of a nation beyond physical

boundaries. The programme began with a splendid dance presentation thereby paying

glowing tribute to the martyrs. The gamut of expressions ranged from amazement at our

nation's diversity and quiet admiration of its resilience to a clarion call to preserve the

uniqueness of spiritual power and indomitable spirit of our nation. Students created

colourful presentations with background scores to express their views. Moved by the call of

humanity, the Salwanians rose to the occasion and spoke about their dream of a nation where

knowledge flows freely and reasoning reigns supreme. A place where narrow walls of caste

or gender discrimination do not exist. The compilation of ideas and dreams of a nation which

the children of modern India envisage presented a mirror of the society in the years to come.

The presentation ended with the national anthem and the hope that the next Independence

Day will be celebrated in a Coronavirus free world. May India be free always and its citizens

take it to the next level of innovations and appreciation.

Salwan Public School, Sector-15 (II), Gurugram celebrated the 74th Independence Day with

huge pride and fervour. The momentous day had in attendance (via online platform) the

entire team comprising the Hon'ble Director Maj Gen Surinder Singh [AVSM, VSM, SM

(retd.)] flanked by the Principal Ms. Rashmi Malik, Vice-Principal Dr. Sunita Jakhar, HM

Ms. Kumud Aneja and administrative staff. The ambience beautifully resonated with the

hues of heart-warming and zestful musical renditions vivifying the true spirit of patriotism

and shoring up every Indian's resolve to safeguard the interest of the motherland. Post the

flag-hoisting ceremony, the event concluded with the Principal and the dignitaries

extending their heartfelt greetings to all.

I dream to have better education policies not only for me, but even for unprivileged children wandering on rural streets. It's just a dream but accompanied by an Omen and bright faithful beam, that one day I will, live in India of my dreams.

THE IDEA OF MY COUNTRY

The country of my desire is no country at all. It is the flow of ideas that we dream of all the time. The idea of God and reason reigning supreme in the premise of sunlight where rain beckons the beginning of new life and washes away the sins of our past. The idea where happiness is not just an expression but a way of life and even in melancholy we expect to bathe in rays of pure white light. It is the idea of a utopia where people do not speak the language of war and know that harmony is the solution for all. The idea where our heroes look upon us in pride and the blood they shed will give rise to a country where its enemies cower and hide. I believe this idea will exist in a place called India where as mere humans will carry this land to the greatest of heights.

I dream of a country that is free from corruption, where the citizens are responsible and proud. A country where each one of us has an opportunity to relish our dreams and the deserving students are not constrained to underachieve due to limited number of seats for higher and quality education. I want India to be a country that is free from corruption in our day-to-day life, where a common citizen feels responsible for keeping public areas clean. A country where the law and justice system work for each and every individual. I want our armed forces to be so powerful that no one can cast an evil eye on our borders and we can have a strong voice in maintaining world peace. I want my country to be a leader in research and development in the field of space, medical, power, defence, telecommunication and many more. I dream for India where education is for all and all for education. A place where talent determines opportunities and not gender, where all are united and corruption is uprooted to the last echelon of the society. I want my country to move forward yet hold its basic culture and values intact. I dream of a country where there is no poverty or starvation. India is a beautiful country with a rich heritage, diverse culture, thousands of years of history, exciting stories filled with mystery and adventure. There is no reason why it should not be a

tourism capital of the world with India's centuries-old concept of Atithi Devo Bhava

The diversity of the country that people thought would make us fall is actually what makes us rise. All over the globe, we are known for our established diversities. From Makar Sankranti and Pongal in January to Maha Shivratri and Holi in February and March, from Eid, Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami, Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi in August to Navratri and Durga Puja in October, Diwali in November and lastly Christmas in December. We celebrate a range of different festivals throughout the year to celebrate our diversity. Every year, millions of tourists visit our beautiful land and feel overwhelmed by its beauty and uniqueness.

India is full of wonders. From one of the seven wonders of the world to the most intelligent brains in the world, India has had it all and yet we have much more to discover in this great country. India is the birthplace of many famous personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Shakuntala Devi, Aryabhata, Kalpana Chawla and many others. People talk about the India of their dreams. But according to me, the country we are living in right now is more than anything anyone could have ever dreamt of. We are not perfect but we always strive for perfection. And God willing, there comes a day when there is no place for hunger, poverty, crime or intolerance in our country. It will truly be the harbinger of the country's heyday.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY

India is a country filled with dreams and aspirations. It is a country where we all live together like a big family. Though we may have mutual disagreements, but when any outsider comes and threatens any of us, we stand united to eliminate the adversary. When India first gained independence and became a free nation, many people predicted that the country would not be able to survive. We were just learning to stand on our own feet when everyone told us that we were destined to fall merely because we belonged to diverse cultures. But now, after 74 years, we can look into our detractors' eyes and answer them that we are stronger than what they can ever imagine.
