MISSIONSTATEMENT: To provide nutritious meals, socialization, health screening, and education.
We act as a catalyst for access, opportunity, health, and independence for older adults.
From the Desk of the Director:
Well, Hello March! In like a lion, out like a lamb, or so the saying goes. While March ushers in spring,
it’s hard to say which way it is going to be with our climate here! It could well possibly be in like a
lamb and out like a lion! March is the month of spring and with it comes a lot of activity, not only in
nature but right here at the Center! Read on for an update to what we have planned.
The Center will tentatively be open for congregate dining March 15, with restrictions in place to
protect our senior community‐your safety and well‐being remains our highest priority. We are
currently allowing activities which can comply with the regulations. We are limited to smaller
groups due to social distancing requirements, so be sure to arrive early. Procedures have been
implemented to check temperatures, ask screening questions, and sanitize after each activity. We
are relying on volunteers to assist with making this happen so please consider joining us!
Another thing to be thinking of, and to consider: if you would like to put on an activity using your
expertise in a hobby, creativity, or activity, we would love to hear from you! Whether it be a
painting, quilting class, exercise, or teaching bird watching, the sky is the limit here. Please reach out
to me if you are interested in sharing your talent with the senior community.
Please take a moment to complete our Reopening survey on our website. www.elkoseniors.org or
go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YWB6BDR This will help us determine what you all
think about the reopening process.
We want to remind those of you who need supplies, sanitizer refills, etc. to please call the Center to
arrange for pickup between 9 a.m. ‐2 p.m. on Monday thru Thursday. We have been blessed with
donations to share with all of you. Thank you all who have contributed to making this possible. We
plan to discontinue our pantry within the next two months, so please let us know what you need.
We are still working on Senior Center Directory to be provided to members only. If you wish to be
listed, please let us know by calling the office at 775‐738‐3030. This Directory will help us to stay in
touch with one another or allow you to see if one of your friends is not a member and needs to be
invited to join!
Daylight Savings Time also adds an element of rancor to this month as we spring forward and
change our clocks! If you need help testing your smoke detector batteries, please let us know!
Happy March to you all. Let this month bring in spring, whether like a lion or a lamb, hope springs
eternal‐look for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Take care and be safe.

Volunteer Spotlight – Ruby Gliko
We need to acknowledge our amazing staff at
the Center: Matt, Carissa, Marj, Josie, Candi,
Paulina, Donna, Jesse and Cori for all their hard
work in holding the Center together during this
difficult time. It is due to their dedication to the
Center and all of you, that the place is still
functioning! So please take the time to drop a
note to let them know how much they are
appreciated.
So excited to introduce a lovely lady, Ruby, who always has a gracious smile on her face and ready to chip in and help where it is needed. Originally from North Dakota, after 50 years she is to be considered a native Nevadan. Retiring from many years of teaching, where her career started in Carlin and ended at Southside Elementary, she began coming to the Center when Sylvia was the Director. She loves to travel; one of her favorite trips was to Canada for the beautiful terrain. Definitely an outdoor person, loves going up to Lamoille Canyon in the Rubies. Her last hike was to Island Lake and is looking forward to the weather warming up so she can get back up there again. She prefers to be outside, working on her vegetable garden or doing yardwork. She has one son, a lovely daughter‐in‐law and a grandchild; she would love to see them come back to Elko. Ruby starts her day off playing Solitaire, pretty much the only card game she plays, and then heads up to the Center to see where she can help. You’ll see her helping with the curbside delivery, checking in foods, etc. She is ready for the Center to open back up, and we sure appreciate her donating her time and skills to help us here at the Center. If it wasn’t for volunteers like Ruby, it would be harder to get things accomplished around here! Thank you, RUBY! We love you!
