Part A

The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and outcome achieved by the end of the year. The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year aimed the overall development of the University. Ample thrust was given to both infrastructure and academic developments of the teaching departments as well as the Research departments. The main proposals in the action plan and the outcome achieved by the end of the year are:

Pt.Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur needs to establish an International

Campus that would have world-class quality education, infrastructure,

entrepreneurship, and intellectual incubation in the areas of emerging technologies

and knowledge-based disciplines that are growing rapidly. Industry-Academia

cooperation is a distinctive and indispensable component for their respective

continued existence and growth. India is already a key leader through its‟ active role

in development of future technologies and human resources for these disciplines.

University has prepared a Master Plan 2020 document which visualizes a new

forward-looking International University Campus that is globally competitive in

academic excellence with professionalism and self-reliance and will provide impetus

to nation-building and global competitiveness.

Our plan is to introduce

More Job oriented courses Linking with www for wider & global recognition Creating Alumni Association for the benefit of the department Frequent interactions with industries and Training Program for M. Sc.

Students.

Emphasis on Research Work of Local Industrial Needs Campus Interview Motivating the staff to publish research papers in standard journals Conducting UGC/NAAC sponsored National Seminars/ Conferences. Motivating the departments to conduct national/regional/state level seminars. Facilitating all disciplines to apply for major/minor research projects.

Refreshing our web-site to include more details about our institution and enable our students to select EDC through internet.

Expanding the internet facility to the students multitude in a larger scale Modernizing the Old Building and Augmenting infrastructural facilities in

library and subscribing to more number of journals for the benefit of the staff and students.

Initating efforts to conduct campus interview to enable students to find better job placements.

Providing students an exposure to contemporary social reality through extension programme and facilitating community empowerment through a convergence and involvement of various departments.

Developing revised questionnaire for student feedback on teaching-learning to ensure quality in teaching.

Promoting student centred learning and using new technology to enhance the

teaching-learning process. Providing opportunities through various activities and programme to enable

students to acquire knowledge, skills and values. Encouraging departments to conduct training programmes/workshops/guest

lectures to disseminate knowledge and information. Ensuring departmental accountability by comparing the action plan proposed

by the various disciplines in the beginning and the evaluation report submitted at the end.

PART B 01. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

SoS in Ancient Indian History Culture & Archaeology: Teaching, Research & Student participated in Field Work. SoS in Anthropology: The discipline of Anthropology uniquely focuses on understanding humans (as a biological and social being) and human behavior

through a cross-cultural perspective. There has been unanimity about reinforcing the

holistic image of Anthropology including socio-cultural, biological and archaeological areas. Therefore, the department from its inception has been engaged in Tribal Studies from holistic perspective. Anthropology, because of its inter-disciplinary nature, has a potential to develop its identity as QUEEN of all sciences. It is sitting

on the gold mine of rich data, created and being created by dynamic human endeavor. It is a discipline for future since it draws linkages between past, present and future, and has predictive ability. The activities to achieve the goals are- i) Imparting scientific knowledge and value added education through best teaching & research facilities and participatory field training

ii) Exposure to the front line research areas through hands-on-training, workshop, seminar, conference, interaction with visiting fellow and guest faculty for capacity building iii) Inculcate the spirit of scientific temper and humanity iv) Research and publications in various dimensions of Anthropology v) To develop high quality R & D to compete on the international scale. vi) Capacity building to cater the needs of the state and nation & thereby Nation building. vii) A strong emphasis is placed on interactions and collaborations on scientific issues to achieve excellence in the field of Anthropology thereby higher education. SoS in Biotechnology: Imparting education in Biotechnology and Research in state. SoS in Chemistry: The School of Studies in Chemistry was established in the year 1972. At present 07 teachers are teaching and working in wide areas of research,

viz., QSAR and Drug Design for Anti-tumor/ Anti-cancer activity, Environmental Analysis and Physical-Organic Chemistry. The teachers of the department awarded projects from various funding agencies, UGC, CSIR, DST, DRDO, C-COST, ISRO and MOEF. Besides, department is funded under DST-FIST programme for its excellence in teaching and research, by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, and under Non-SAP programme of UGC. SoS in Computer Science: The Department attempts to develop skills and entrepreneurial capabilities and helps in upgrading of technology and expertise. Arranging seminars, workshops, conferences and short-term projects attains the dissemination of emerging knowledge and expertise in the area of high and futuristic technology areas. In addition to this, extra curricular activities, guest lecturers, quizzes etc. are arranged from time to time to aid the overall development of students. Recently the department has introduced E-Classes for students and others

by broadening the network connection while connecting it with Edusat program. This avails us the facility of on-line lectures of renowned professors in different fields of different universities in the different branches of Computer Science, different Engineering fields and much more. S. O. S. in Computer Science, Raipur (C. G.), is now among the selected 16 University of country to have the advance satellite communication device “V-SAT” having installed at our Department for high-speed

Internet connection and ejournals. SoS in Economics: Teaching and Research work is carried out in accordance to the curriculam. Institute of Teachers Education: To provide well trained teachers to the society for the fulfillment of quality education. SoS in Electronics: Main goal and objective of the department is to spread electronics science and its application in real life within and out side the state. This is

accomplished by providing good teaching environment among students of the SoS Faculties have tried their best to provide the knowledge of electronics to the students of the department. Activities regarding the fulfillment of the goals and objectives of the department are mainly student‟s seminars and project works, specialized

lecturers delivered by subject experts, Internet facilities, e-classes through audio-visual aids, e-library, Analog & Digital lab, Digital Communication lab, Optical Fiber Communication, Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded System lab, VLSI Development lab, Microwave Test bench Laser optic lab, PC-based Robotics System, virtual instrumentation lab through Lab View software and advanced computing/ Digital Signal Processing through latest version of Matlab.

SoS in Geography: Teaching, Learning & Research. SoS in Geology: Teaching and Research work is carried out in accordance to the curriculam. SoS in History: Teaching & Research etc. SoS in Law: Excellent service of the students in the area of the legal services. SoS in Library & Information Science: The School of Studies in Library & Information Science was instituted in 1971 with the help of professional staff of Sunder Lal Sharma Granthagar (Central Library of Pt. R.S.U.) Looking to the demand for more qualified personnel in different institutions, the University created two regular posts (One Reader & One Lecturer) for the first time in the VII plan which leads to the starting of Master of Library and Information Science Course in 1988. Now, the Department runs B.Lib. I.Sc. M.Lib. I.Sc. M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes with 4 teachers. (One Reader & 3 Lecturers)

SoS in Life Science: The School is engaged in quality Teaching, Research and Extension activities with the aim of fulfilling the aspirations and the desire of people of this region. SoS in Literature & Languages: Teaching and Research work is carried out by the school. SoS in Mathematics: The school promotes study & research activities in the field of Analysis and Cryptography. Institute of Management: MBA, which is the core programme of the institute, itself is so designed that it meets the very objective of the setting up of this institute. Further, to fulfill our mission, the institute conducts Seminars, Workshops, Presentations, Guest Lectures inviting the people from local industry and outside as well as the reputed entrepreneurs, who from time to time give suggestions to strengthen our core programme to enable the final products of this institute to benefit the need of the industry in particular and the society as whole.

Institute of Pharmacy: To evaluate and elaborate the „Institute of Pharmacy‟ at par with the national premier pharmacy institute. SoS in Philosophy & Yoga: Research, Seminars, Conferences & Publications SoS in Physical Education: Physical Education and sports is always an important part of all educational institutions. In modern days the importance of competitive sports is observed by everyone through various medias, other than this, physical education

has various aspects as health, fitness, well-being etc., which is undertaken in different courses. Objectives 1. To impart Physical Education so that the product of this institution is trained to uplift the standard of sports in Chhattisgarh. 2. All round development of human personality. 3. Rehabilitation program for social adjustment of injured, sick and handicapped.

4. Preventive and curative functions for several diseases and ailments affecting human body and mind. 5. To provide healthy and socially accepted opportunity for the people to compete and reach to excellence in respective fields.

6. Research and tribal sports persons of Chhattisgarh who have immense potentialities in sports is asset of the state various aspects of the sports performance of these sportspersons need to be studied to explore the potentialities. SoS in Physics: SoS in Physics offers courses leading to M.Sc.degree with specializations in solid state physics & Astrophysics. The specializations are based on completion of project work which involves studies based on preliminary research

work. It also offers courses leading to Ph.D. degree based on research work in front line areas viz Condensed Matter Physics, Solid State Ionic Materials, Nano-Crystalline Materials & Astronomy & Astrophysics. SoS in Psychology: (i) Imparting scientific knowledge of Psychology to M.A., M.Phil, Diploma students. (ii) Research in different fields of Psychology is being conducted by Teachers and Research Scholars (iii) Guidance and Counselling to the individual of different sectors. (iv) Organization of workshops for training the HIV/AIDS counsellors. A new course initiated – M. Phil (Law). SoS in Library & Information Science: A. M.Lib. I.Sc. (Part-Time, 2 years Course) B. M. Phil. SoS in Life Science: i. M. Phil. Bioscience was reactivated from session 2007--2008. ii. Five year Integrated M.Sc. programme in Bioscience and Microbiology has been initiated from session 2007-08 with B. Sc. Honours programme.

and syllabus designed SoS in Anthropology: Following the scientifically designed UGC Model curriculum. In addition, time-to-time the syllabi of Anthropology and Forensic Science have been reviewed and revised to maintain high academic standards by updating syllabi & to keep pace with the contemporary knowledge and state-of-the art information in all branches of Anthropology and Forensic Science through:

Continuous curriculum evaluation Regular meetings of the Board of Studies in Anthropology suitably modified and revised the curricula every year (The last meetings of Board of Studies held on 25.09.2008).

SoS in Biotechnology: Finalized the syllabus scheme of various courses in Biotechnology (As per UGC norms). SoS in Chemistry: Syllabus of Semester system is revised. Institute of Teachers Education: is done time to time at university level. SoS in Electronics: In every meeting of B. O. S. Electronics, syllabus (Theory and Lab) of UG and PG both have been revised according to the present requirements.

SoS in Geography: Syllabus designed as per UGC Model Syllabus SoS in Geology: The curricular design for M. Phil. Course redesigned. SoS in Law: Proper and suitable course has been prepared for B.A.LL.B and M. Phil (Law) courses. SoS in Library & Information Science: Every year the Board of Study in Library and Information Science is updating the course contents of all the courses Looking the need of Computer application in the libraries, the Board has introduced I.T. papers in B. Lib., M. Lib., & M.Phil. SoS in Life Science: i. Syllabus drafted for M.Phil. Bioscience and Five years integrated course. ii. Practical is being reoriented and upgraded employing new tools and techniques. iii. Syllabus is upgraded in every board of Studies meeting. SoS in Mathematics: New papers in UG & M.Phil. such as Financial Mathematics &

Cryptography Institute of Management: Besides eight weeks in-plant summer training, which is compulsory for every MBA students, we have made two research projects also compulsory in our curriculum, to make the students interact with the industry and the consumers at regular interval to be aware of practical applications of theory taught in class rooms and develop their confidence, managerial attitude, aptitude, and decision making skills students are divided in teams and consists of a members each to make industry presentation which has been made compulsory in the institute, so that the students will be force to be acquainted with the news papers and business magazines and to be updated in business news and develop their confidence and communication skills. SoS in Philosophy & Yoga: Course curriculum updated SoS in Physical Education: Training, at various stages of the course are given, to make the students interact with the school and college pupil and the players at regular interval to be aware of practical applications of theory taught in class rooms and develop their confidence, command and control. Students are send to different

school for teaching practice. Students are encouraged to deal with various aspects of sports. SoS in Physics: Syllabi framed for semester system have been implemented. Also syllabi for M.Phil & Five year‟s integrated courses are framed. SoS in Psychology: Time to time curriculum has been reviewed and the advance Knowledge/Research in the field of Psychology has been incorporated. SoS in Regional Studies: Seminar used in curriculum

SoS in Statistics: Course design of integrated M.Sc. 04. Inter-disciplinary programmes started:

SoS in Anthropology: The nature of Anthropology is inter-disciplinary therefore we have started collaborative research and or Ph.D. programme. Research collaboration with- Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata

SoS in Chemistry: Individual teaching faculties of this department have done interdisciplinary work. Special emphasis has been given on QSAR and Drug Design for Anti-Tumor and Anti-Cancer Activities, Characterization of Atmospheric Aerosols, Green House Gases, Black Carbon, Material Science and Enzymes kinetics etc. In future some inter-disciplinary courses are planned to be introduced like Medicinal Chemistry, Environmental Toxicology and Chemical Biology. Institute of Teachers Education: The training of trainee teachers is a interdisciplinary programme involving primary and secondary school where trainees partially share the teaching load of the school. SoS in Geography: Assisting SoS in Geology in running Diploma Course in GIS SoS in Law: Only for B.A.LL.B. Course SoS in Library & Information Science: The department has reframed its syllabus on the basis of the UGC Model Curriculum.

SoS in Life Science:

i. Inter-disciplinary research is going on in the department in the area of Chronobiology, Parasitology and vector Biology, Seed Biology, Microbiology and Plant Tissue Culture.

ii. M.Sc. Students are going for their project work in various universities and national laboratories.

iii. Research scholars visited important National Laboratories for higher

training.

SoS in Mathematics:

A. Provided Exam & result (300) processing of entire University by faculty member Dr. B.S.Thakur. B. Unit test conducted for UG & PG only.

SoS in Philosophy & Yoga: Yes SoS in Physical Education: Interdisciplinary research work is being conducted in association with SoS Anthropology, SoS Psychology, SoS Life Science, Medical College. SoS in Physics: A joint M.Tech teaching programme in Electro-Optics, as an Inter-disciplinary programme between SoS in Electronics & SoS in Physics has been approved by UGC, New Delhi with a five year grant of Rs.37.25 lacs +Teaching staff

of a Reader & Lecture rank. SoS in Psychology: 1. AIDS Counselling in Collaboration with National AIDS Control Organization New Delhi & Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai 2. Capacity building for women empowerment. SoS in Regional Studies: Ph.D. Programme in Regional Studies (interdisciplinary work) 05. Examination reforms implemented:

SoS in Anthropology:

Introduction of Semester system of examination, w.e.f. 2006-2007 to provide students more productive learning environment.

Internal assessment through Seminar and Tutorials. Continuous monitoring and evaluation of student‟s progress. Sending progress reports to parents regarding attendance.

SoS in Biotechnology: Semester system of Examination implemented from session 2006 – 2007. SoS in Chemistry: From session 2006-2007 in M.Sc. semester System adopted as per the NAAC recommendations. SoS in Economics: From Annual to Semester Institute of Teachers Education: Policy is decided by university

SoS in Electronics: Through class tests / tutorial assigned to the students and valued by the concerned teacher. SoS in Geography: Semester system has been introduced from June 2006. SoS in History: From Annual to Semester SoS in Law: Proposed has been made for the semesester system examination. SoS in Library & Information Science: For M.Lib. I. Sc. Exam. Semester System is

followed. SoS in Life Science: The School is conducting examination through semester system. Institute of Management: Three Internal tests are conducted for internal assessment of students, out of which two best are taken as final marks.

Library: Based on the users feed back, statistics and observing the healthy practices of certain reputed level university libraries, after 1/3/03, slowly but firmly, we have made remarkable improvements in library services. In spite of various constrains which still persist, we have tried to overcome the points raised by the NAAC committee. Progresses made in this direction are: i. Computerization of library is progressing in a phased manner. In this connection- a. SOUL software has been adopted for computerization, which has been developed by Inflibnet, an IUC of U.G.C. b. Creation of computerized database with Bar-coding of all the books available in

library has been completed. c. On-line Public Access Catalogue has been made available to the readers. d. Creation of computerized database of Journals is in progress. e. We are ready for computerized circulation also. We have started computerized circulation for faculty and staff members. We hope to start it for research scholars and students also very soon. f. Web On-line Public Access Catalogue has been made available on Intranet (Campus LAN) and can be accessed from any where with in the campus 24?7 g. From August 05 our library started availing VSAT connectivity, through Campus LAN, for utilization of e-resources under UGC-Infonet e-journal consortium, which is providing full text access to about 5000 e-journals of 21 world's leading and scholarly publishers. h. Internet facility for academic purpose has been made available for the readers with downloading facility from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, free of cost.

i. Information about the library has been made available on the home page of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur, i.e. www.prsu.ac.in ii. Text books are purchased as per the recommendations of the Heads of respective SoS and the library committee, based on budget provisions.

iii. During textbook and competitive examination books selection, student's demands are also considered. iv. Library remains open round the year. It remains open from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. in week days and 11:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sundays & Holidays. Due to lack of staff at present it is not possible to keep it open up to 8.00 pm.

v. Library remains open on Sundays and other holidays, excluding three national holidays and one Holi. vi. Sitting capacity for in house reading has been raised from 320 to 380.

We are committed to the satisfaction of the readers. In spite of computerization, we have not compromised with our conventional service, acquisition of information on hard copy etc., for the readers

Selection to the institute is based on National test conducted by AIMA (MAT), so the students from all over the country could get the opportunity for admission in our Institute

• Recently one Research group of department has started the work on “QSAR and Drug Design for Anti-tumor/Anti-cancer Activity” and got success when experiments are performed in-vitro followed by in-vivo on Swiss mice. • Another research group is working on “Arsenic Contamination” in this area, and the related effects on human beings. Both of these researches will help to mankind in future.

SoS in Computer Science: A proposal has been sent to the state government for declaring the institution as a “Centre of Excellence” in the field of IT education & research. Efforts are being made for collaboration with foreign universities and technical institutions for course curriculum upgradation and faculty exchange programs. SoS in Electronics: Photonics has been deemed the 21st century revolutionary technology that would create as enormous impact as electronics did in the 20th Century. Lasers and optical electronics have opened up many new opportunities and frontiers of technology. They have tremendous scope of application in industry, medicine, defence, meteorology, optical communication and information processing Graduates with training in photonics and related technologies are in high demand. There is and will continue to be a big global demand for skilled people with photonics training. Realizing the rapidly growing needs of well trained manpower in photonics, S.O.S, in Electronics with Physics has decided to start a four semester M.Tech.

course in Optoelectronics and Laser Technology and submitted UGC, New Delhi a proposal under UGC INNOVATIVE PROGRAMME: Teaching and Research in Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas. UGC has in principle accepted the proposal and its approval is awaited. The aim of the course is to equip its graduates with an excellent knowledge of modern optics, lasers, detectors, optical waveguides, optical communication and provide a range of experiences in research methods, data analysis, and information technology as they apply to the photonics industry. The basic objective of the course is to fill the gap between what industry demands and what infect academic institution should give to the students in the field of Optoelectronics and Lasers. a) The department organizes Departmental Seminars/Lectures on every Saturday in addition to that the students are also invited in social/National theme topics so that they may be involved in co-curriculum activities and they are encourages to on these topics in additional to subject related to themes. Every student of the department is involved to complete a project work in M.Sc. II Sem and IV Sem. b) The department has also started value education classes every Saturday. The

department has planned to start the NSS Unit so that the students may involve themselves in social work. c) The department has started electronics library for the students that contains study materials related to the courses taught. The department is using Audio-Visual Aid and Computer Aided learning in addition to the Conventional Teaching Methods.
