Temple Treasurer Tom Gaskins, P.P., announced at the stated meeting that the potential sale of the Zamora Temple had hit a snag. The Birmingham Humane Society had originally committed to a 4.5 million dollar deal to purchase the Zamora property in Trussville. However, at the April 24 stated meeting, it was reported that they asked the Shrine Center to lower the price of the building by 1.5 million. The BHS cited the need to demolish the property, distance to sewer lines, water lines, and other expenses they would incur as reasons for the price cut. This offer was rejected by Illustrious Sir Jerry Wayne Thomas and the Divan. The BHS later informed Zamora that they were withdrawing their offer and removing themselves from the contract. No plans have been made as to what direction the real estate committee plans to go following this latest setback. From the desk of the PotentateHello, Men,Well, here it is May. Where

has the year gone? We arealready five months in, and wehave seen some great things atZamora. We have also hadsome set backs, but we willcontinue moving forward. Iwould like to begin by thank-ing all of you for the hard workyou have put into your temple:it has not gone unnoticed!

Let me start out by saying,“Thank you!” Our Easter partywas a HUGE success this year. This would not have been pos-sible if the nobility of ZamoraShrine had not turned out inforce! I called each unit direc-tor and asked them to help withthe special event for our hospi-tal kids and Shrine families. Our units showed up andshowed out. I had several peo-ple contact me to tell me thiswas the best Easter Party wehave had in a long time, and Icouldn’t agree more.

Now I have to take a secondto wish my lady, Tina, a HappyBirthday, again. She celebratedher birthday on April 20.Several of you called, texted,or sent her a message on “Two-Facebook.” Thank you all formaking her feel special.

What can I say about theCountry Cash? I appreciate allof you who supported thisfundraiser for our Temple. I

also want to congratulateAssistant Rabban TimVaughan and Oriental GuideCurtis Walters on a job welldone. You don’t know the hardwork that goes into putting oneof these events together, andthese two Nobles need to becommended. Also, NobleDeWayne Parker and his crewdid an amazing job cookingand serving the food. I am alsothankful for the DeMolay andRainbow Girls who worked. Itwas a great night for everyonein attendance.

We had our stated meetingon April 24. We had a smallcrowd. I would really like tosee more Nobles at our statedmeetings to know what’sgoing on at their Temple.Thebiggest piece of informationwas that the sale of the Zamoraproperty fell through. Now,this is a setback, but we willcontinue to do what we feel isin the best interest of Zamora. With that being said, let meencourage you to be at our nextmeeting to make your voiceheard.

I was glad to see two of ournewly created Nobles from theApril cold class, Jared Stegalland Mike Puzak, at the statedmeeting. They came all theway from Livingston to bewith us.

By the time you are reading

this, many of us will be makingplans to head to Panama CityBeach for the DixieConvention. I hope you havemade plans to be there. It isalways a good time for us togather with our families andspend time with our ZamoraFamily. We also want to bethere to support our own NobleChris Key as he leads the DixieMotor Corps as President. Wayto go, Chris!

Finally, I want to invite eachof you to the Potentate’s Ballwhich will be held June 1. Ourcrew has been hard at workmaking sure you will have agood time, I know I will! Wehave so much going on, but wealways have fun and help chil-dren. So, until I see you again, remember the three magicwords… I Love You!

Ride Along Program DiscussedCaptain of the Guard Richard

Johnson pulls double duty atZamora. Not only does he serveon the Divan, but he is also ourMembership Chairman. In aneffort to improve membership,he approached the Divan with anew idea. While visiting severalMasonic Lodges, NobleJohnson was asked by severalmen, “Exactly what do Shrinersdo?”

He decided the best way totell them would be to showthem! He made a presentation tothe Divan asking for permissionto allow Master Masons to ridealong with Zamora RoadRunners to see first hand theimpact Shriners make in thelives of so many children. Aftermuch discussion and phonecalls to the Temple insuranceagent, it was agreed that this

program warranted a try.So, in the coming months,

Master Masons will be allowedto participate in what the RoadRunners do so well. Hopefully,we will get motivated membersout of the program, but if not, atleast more people will see firsthand the Shriner’s Love to theRescue.
