WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT 06-12 SEPTEMBER 2018 SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES Significant Weather Features The Well Marked Low pressure area over North West Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood of the previous week had concentrated into a Depression and further intensified into a Deep Depression and lay over the same area in the beginning of the week. It crossed West Bengal coast and moved northwestwards and weakened gradually. Under the influence of the system, widespread and very intense rainfall activity had occurred over Odisha. The system has also caused widespread and intense rainfall activity over Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and East Rajathan. The monsoon trough lay to the north of its normal position and its eastern end extended across northeastern states from the middle of the week. Also a north-south trough in the lower tropospheric levels lay extending from eastern parts of Bihar to West Central Bay of Bengal, causing moisture incursion into notheast and adjoining east India.Under its influence, widespread intense rainfall activity had occurred over northeastern states and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the week. Southeastern parts of Peninsular India, Western Himalyan Region and adjoining plains of northwest India has experienced scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thundershowers with isolated intense activity, during the week. Remaining parts of peninsular India and western parts of Central India had subdued rainfall activity during the week. SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

Significant Weather Features

The Well Marked Low pressure area over North West Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood of the previous week had concentrated into a Depression and further intensified into a Deep Depression and lay over the same area in the beginning of the week. It crossed West Bengal coast and moved northwestwards and weakened gradually. Under the influence of the system, widespread and very intense rainfall activity had occurred over Odisha. The system has also caused widespread and intense rainfall activity over Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and East Rajathan.

Heavy Rainfall Activity

Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls had been reported over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Odisha on one day each during the week.

METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS

The axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level passed through Ferozepur, Ambala, Meerut, Orai, Churk, Daltonganj, Chaibasa, centre of the Deep Depression over NorthWest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal & north Coastal Odisha and thence east-southeastwards to NorthEast Bay of Bengal on 6th September 2018. It passed through Ferozepur, Rohtak, Etawah, Allahabad, centre of the Depression over north Chhattisgarh & neighborhood, Balasore and thence east-southeastwards to NorthEast Bay of Bengal on 7th; passed through Anupgarh, Sikar, centre of the Well Marked Low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood, Ambikapur, Chandbali and thence east-southeastwards to NorthEast Bay of Bengal on 8th; passed through Anupgarh, centre of the Low pressure area over East Rajasthan & neighbourhood, Datia, Varanasi, Patna, Dhanbad, Digha and thence east-southeastwards to NorthEast Bay of Bengal on 9th; passed through Firozepur, Karnal, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, Purnea, Goalpara and thence eastwards to Nagaland on 10th; passed through Firozepur, Patiala, Kheri, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, Forbesganj, Goalpara and thence eastwards to Nagaland on 11th and ran close to the foothills of the Himalayas on 12th September 2018.

Last week’s Well Marked Low pressure area has concentrated into a Depression over NorthWest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal & north coastal Odisha and moving slightly westwards, it further intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 6th September 2018 over the same region near Lat.21.8°N and Long. 87.9°E, about 20 km east-southeast of Digha. It moved initially westwards and then northwestwards and lay centered at 0830 hrs IST of 7th September, 2018 over north Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood near Lat. 22.9°N and Long. 83.3°E, about 30 km south of Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh) and 140 km east of Pendra Road (Chhattisgarh). It has weakened and lay as a Well Marked Low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level on 8th. It lay as a Low pressure area over East Rajasthan & neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 4.5 km above mean sea level on 9th; the Low pressure area has become less marked however, its remnant cyclonic circulation lay over south Haryana and adjoining north Rajasthan and extended between 1.5 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 10th and it has become less marked on 11th September 2018 morning.

Last week’s trough between 3.1 & & 5.8 km above mean sea level from the cyclonic circulation associated with the Deep Depression over North West Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal & north coastal Odisha to southeast Haryana persisted and ran across Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh, northeast Madhya Pradesh and south Uttar Pradesh on 6th September 2018. It ran from the cyclonic circulation associated with the Depression over north Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood to Punjab across south Uttar Pradesh and Haryana between 1.5 & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 7th ; It was seen as an East-West trough between 1.5 & 2.1 km above mean sea level from southwest Rajasthan to West Central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast across the cyclonic circulation associated with the Well Marked Low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood, Chhattisgarh and south Odisha, tilting southwards with height on 8th.It has become less marked on 9th September 2018.

Last week’s cyclonic circulation extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level over southeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood persisted on 6th September 2018. It lay over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 7th and has become less marked on 8th September 2018.

A trough at 1.5 km above mean sea level ran from northwest Madhya Pradesh to Punjab across Haryana on 8th September 2018 and it has become less marked on 9th September 2018.
