Transcript of Untitled - Seacoast Repertory Theatre

The Board & Staff of Seacoast Repertory Theatre thank our season and individual show sponsors for their

contributions toward The Rep’s 2022 Season. Their support helps keep ticket prices affordable and our artistic and educational

programs accessible to all. Their philanthropy improves the quality of life for everyone on the Seacoast.

The Rep is proud to partner with businesses that nurture the arts.

We hope you will join us in thanking our sponsors by showing them your support in return

The Rep is deeply grateful to its2022 Season Sponsors

Many Thanks ToRochester Opera House

All of our volunteers; There are too many of you to list, and we would hate to miss anyone. So we

are just going to say a HUGE THANK YOU to every single volunteer. Volunteers come in many forms from ushers, to committee members, to stage hands, crew members, carpenters, artists, performers, and more.

We could not do what we do without you. You are loved!

Seacoast Repertory Theatre is a regional staple of the American theatre scene. It is relentless in its pursuit of artistic excellence, and strives to provide the shared experience of live theatre as a practice in walking a mile in someone else’s shoes. This practice affords humanity a more vast perspective, a respite from our individual reality, and the opportunity to broaden our views and examine the human condition in ways that enrich our hearts, spirits and minds. It is our hope that this cultivates a more empathetic society.

Theatre is one of the oldest art forms in human history, and also one of mankind’s most all encompassing and collaborative art forms. At the Rep, we always emphasize the importance of even the smallest of helpers in our artistic endeavors. At the Rep, “there are no small parts,” on or off the stage. Everyone who helps create a performance, from pulling a rope backstage, focusing a light, or ushering a show, is part of our ensemble - and it’s easy for you to be a part of it too! Any donation, large or small, makes you a direct collaborator in the wonderful art we make.

When you make a tax deductible donation, you are just as important to making the art on the stage as any actor, designer or director. You pay for the sets, the scripts, the band - and when you come to the theatre and watch a show, you can have the pleasure of knowing “I helped make that!”

We are excited to ask you for your support today. We have some incredible plans for next season and it is your generosity and support that will make them reality. The Rep strives to be a generator of new experiences, and we are constantly researching new artistic avenues and innovating with audacity within our organization and community.

It is the belief of the many artists and creators at Seacoast Rep that art is a healer in times of adversity, and throughout the challenges of pandemic The Rep never left its post. By quarantining staff and company members, we were able to provide light to the community through free live streams to nursing homes and first responders, and education and fitness programming to children and families. During our Friday Night Cabarets, thousands of people came together in our chat rooms to celebrate art and connection at a time when the world seemed devoid of both.

While this last year and a half has given rise to many trials for the worldwide artistic industry, as well as the economy and community at large, it has also garnered Seacoast Rep both national and international recognition for our work during the pandemic. The world is taking note of the art we are producing at 125 Bow Street, and with your support The Rep can take the next steps towards being an important player in the fabric of the American theatre scene.

Seacoast Repertory Theatre is an essential service to the community. Join us in enriching the community through the shared experience of live theatre, and giving thousands of patrons the thrill and life changing cathartic experience that only live theatre arts can bring.

A NOTE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTION TEAM CONT.

Once when I was twenty-one, I went to the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City where I stumbled into an exhibition for a story I had never read called The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. While I had never read it, I was aware of its reputation and when I walked into the exhibition room, I could feel the gravitational pull that this story would have on me. Surrounded by hundreds of displayed book pages and original watercolor illustrations, it was then that the Little Prince found me. He found me at a time when I felt a bit lost in my own life and helped me start to see everything around me a bit more clearly. Fast forward seven years later and apparently I’ve written a musical based on this story that found me at exactly the right time.

I believe that The Little Prince is a story for grown-ups disguised as a story for children. In reality, children have no need for this story other than laughing along with our friend the Little Prince. It may be filled with whimsical characters and beautiful illustrations, but at its heart, The Little Prince is a story about love, loss, friendship, and seeing what is truly important. I hope if you are meeting the little prince for the first time tonight or for the 50th, you enjoy this entirely new piece of theatre that we have created!

Our lives all too soon become cluttered, building up in front of our eyes so that we can’t see straight ahead. There appears the Little Prince, kindly asking you to draw him a sheep. Will you honor his request? Will you step away from the noise for just a moment to draw this child a sheep? Even if you don’t understand, even if you’ve forgotten how- see what happens when you pick up the pencil and draw. “Then if a child comes to you, if he laughs, if he has golden hair, if he doesn’t answer your questions, you’ll know who he is. If this should happen, be kind! Don’t let me go on being so sad. Send word immediately that he has come back!” – Antoine de Saint Exupéry

Prolific artists, and partners in life and in art, they have toured internationally, premiered off-Broadway productions, shown their visual arts and sculptures in gallery exhibits, published books, and directed, choreographed and designed dozens of blockbuster, award-winning productions under the moniker of The Mad Men Of Oopsy Daisy, Inc! They have been recognized as master puppet makers and puppeteers, set and costume designers, and are acclaimed for their forward thinking, outside-the-box minded productions and performance art experiences. In addition to the artistic direction of the Seacoast Repertory Theatre, they have been presenting their award winning sci-fi, serial song and dance saga “Mad Haus- A Performance Portmanteau As Conceptual-ized By The Mad Men Of Oopsy Daisy Inc!” for years to a ferociously loyal fan base and cult following. They are passionately dedicated to the art of storytelling, and strive to serve the mission of making existence a better place through the shared experience of live theatre arts.

KATE DUGAS (Stage Manager, Scenic Artist, Production Assistant) is excited to be scenic artist and Resident Stage Manager for the Rep this year! Stage management credits at the Rep include: Wedding Singer, West Side Story, A Chorus Line and Next To Normal . Scenic artist credits at the Rep include: Cabaret, Pippin, The Last Five Years and Next to Normal. Enjoy the show!

JAYNA WHEELER (Assistant Stage Manager) is so glad to be starting off her year with this incredible production! Everyone involved has made this such an incredible and memorable experience and she can't wait to share this magic with the world! Favorite SRT credits include: Jekyll and Hyde (ASM), Fun Home (SM), The Fantasticks (ASM), Mad Haus (SM, Shadow Puppeteer), and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (ASM, Shadow Puppeteer). Jayna is so grateful you are coming out and supporting this beautiful, little show and hopes you enjoy being a part of the story!

MATTHEW BRIAN COST (Lighting Designer) is a Boston-based Lighting Designer with 20 years experience working in the performing arts. His interest in lighting began at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he designed many faculty and student-led productions, in addition to designing at the local Waterville Opera House. In the years since, he has designed all over New England and abroad. His work has been seen at The Seacoast Rep many times and he is happy to be back once again.

ANDREW CAMERON (Sound Designer, Sound Board Operator) is a graduate of the New England School of Communication with a bachelor degree in Audio Engineering. He started at the Rep in 2017 as a freelance sound designer, but quickly found himself in a full-time position as a staff member designing every show the theatre produced! It's an extremely rare opportunity in this field to know you don't have to constantly hunt for gigs, and Andrew is forever grateful for the faith and trust placed bestowed on him by this organization. Some of Andrew's favorite designs as the Rep include Once, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, Baskerville, Ragtime, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Love to Alida, for her endless support and supply of baked goods.

ELISE O'CONNELL (Properties Designer) is exceedingly excited to be tasked with this new challenge of properties design for the Seacoast Rep's 2022 season, having studied technical theater with a concentration in stage management at Salem State College (now University). She joined the Seacoast Rep staff as a full time employee in October of 2019 as Company Manager and Admin Assistant. In the 2020 season she designed props for the Mainstage productions of The Last Five Years, Roar of the Greasepaint, Always…Patsy Cline, Tick Tick Boom, Nunsense, and Winter Wonderettes, as well as serving as spotlight operator, wardrobe supervisor and crew member for various productions and performances.

DAVE WALTERS (Master Carpenter) world traveler, international spy, brilliant inventor, great artist, chess master, time traveler, spiritual monk, invisible ninja, and the most modest person of the age! Well, a good imagination anyway, very liberally applied. The opportunity to write your own biography is priceless, all the best things remembered and all the worst forgotten. I always enjoy supporting artistic endeavors.

ZACHARY AHMAD-KAHLOON (Production Manager) has recently become entrenched and fascinated by the world of Lighting since 2020. It started out of necessity due to the pandemic and now loves the way he can be creative through the medium.
