Adsumus Sancte Spiritus
We stand before You, Holy Spirit,
as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go
and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance
lead us down the wrong path
nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey together
to eternal life and not stray
from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the Son,
forever and ever. Amen.

Introduction
The Church is convoked in Synod, with the theme “For a Synodal Church. Communion,
Participation and Mission.”Pope Francis solemnly opened this synodal journey on October 9-10,
2021. Onefundamental event will be the celebration of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of
the Synod of Bishops in October 2023, which will be followed by the implementation phase
involving the local churches.
This synodal process is celebrated on different levels. One important phase of the synod is the
listening phase in local churches, which aims at fostering a broad consultation process to gather
the wealth of experiences of lived synodality, focusing on maximum inclusion and participation.
It will involve the greatest number of people, and especially those on the peripheries who are
often excluded and forgotten.
The main question that guides this consultation is: How is this “journeying together” happening
today in our local churches, and what steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in
our “journeying together”?To help highlight the experience and contribute in a richer way to the
consultation, ten thematic nuclei with different groups of questions, articulating the different
facets of “lived synodality” to concretely inspire moments of prayer, formation, reflection, and
exchange.
To facilitate theconsultations in the parishes and other groups, the Archdiocese of Cebu has
published, the Handbook for Parish Consultation on the Synod on Synodality. The contents of
this booklet are taken from the English edition of the Preparatory Document for the synod and
theaccompanyingVademecumfor listening and discernment in local churches. This is being
translated into Cebuano, Tamdananalang sa Konsultasyon sa Parokya mahitungod sa Sinodo sa
Sinodalidad, constituting the second part of the handbook.
This publication consists of the key aspects in understanding the synod on synodality.A very
important consideration includes the approach on how to conduct the consultation in the parishes
by adapting the suggested Spiritual Conversation method. This method for group dialogue
promotes active participation, attentive listening, reflective speaking, and spiritual discernment it
resonates the principles of synodality.
We pray that this little handbook will contribute in our pursuit for pathways to which God calls
us – towards deeper communion, fuller participation, and greater openness to fulfilling our
mission.

For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission
The Church of God is convoked in Synod. The path entitled “For a Synodal Church:
Communion, Participation, and Mission” solemnly opened on the 9th -10th of October 2021 in
Rome and on the following 17th of October in each particular Church. One fundamental stage
will be the celebration of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, in
October 2023, which will be followed by the implementation phase.
A SYNODAL CHURCH.
What is synodality? With the convocation of this Synod, Pope Francis invites the entire Church
to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission: It is the path of synodality which
God expects of the Church of the third millennium. Following in the wake of the renewal of the
Church proposed by the Second Vatican Council, this common journey is both a gift and a task:
by journeying together and reflecting together in the journey that has been made so far, the
diverse members of the Church will be able to learn from one another’s experiences and
perspectives, guided by the Holy Spirit. Enlightened by the Word of God and united in prayer,
we will be able to discern the processes to seek God’s will and pursue the pathways to which
God calls us – towards deeper communion, fuller participation, and greater openness in fulfilling
our mission in the world. Our “journeying together” is, in fact, what most effectively enacts and
manifests the nature of the Church as the pilgrim and missionary People of God.
The International Theological Commission (ITC) describes synodality this way:
‘Synod’ is an ancient and venerable word in the Tradition of the Church, whose meaning
draws on the deepest themes of Revelation […] It indicates the path along which the
People of God walk together. Equally, it refers to Jesus Christ, who presents Himself as
‘the way, the truth and the life (Jn 14, 6), and the fact that Christians, His followers, were
originally called followers of the Way’ (cf. Acts 9, 2; 19, 9.23; 22,4; 24,14.22).
First and foremost, synodality denotes the particular style that qualifies the life and mission
of the Church, expressing her nature as the People of God journeying together and
gathering in assembly, summoned by the Lord Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit to
proclaim the Gospel. Synodality ought to be expressed in the Church’s ordinary way of
living and working.
8
In this sense, synodality enables the entire People of God to walk forward together, listening to
the Holy Spirit, to participate in the mission of the Church in the communion that Christ
establishes between us.
The entire people of God share a common dignity and vocation through Baptism. All of us are
called in virtue of our Baptism to be active participants in the life of the Church. In parishes,
small Christian communities, lay movements, religious communities, and other forms of
communion, women and men, young people and elderly, we are all invited to listen to one
another in order to hear the promptings of the Holy Spirit, who comes to guide our human
efforts, breathing life and vitality into the Church and leading us into deeper communion for our
mission in the world. As the Church embarks on this synodal journey, we must strive to ground
ourselves in experiences of authentic listening and discernment on the path of becoming the
Church that God calls us to be.
Theme of the Synod. The theme of the Synod is “For a Synodal Church: Communion,
“Participation, and Mission.” The three dimensions of the theme are communion, participation
and mission. These three dimensions are profoundly interrelated. They are the vital pillars of a
synodal Church. There is no hierarchy between them. Rather, each one enriches and orients the
other two. There is a dynamic relationship between the three that must be articulated with all
three in mind.
• Communion: By his gracious will, God gathers us together as diverse peoples of one
faith, through the covenant that he offers to his people. The communion we share finds its
deepest roots in the love and unity of the Holy Trinity. It is Christ who reconciles us to
the Father and unites with each other in the Holy Spirit. Together we are inspired by
listening to the Word of God, through the living Tradition of the Church, and grounded
on the sensus fidei that we share. We all have a role to play in discerning and living out
God’s call for his people.
• Participation: A call for the involvement of all who belong to the People of God – laity,
consecrated, and ordained – to engage in the exercise of deep and respectful listening to
one another. This listening creates space for us to hear the Holy Spirit together, and
guides our aspirations for the Church of the Third Millennium. Participation is based on
the fact that all the faithful are qualified and are called to serve one another through the
gifts they have each received from the Holy Spirit. In a synodal Church the community,
in the free and rich diversity of its members, is called to pray, listen, analyze, dialogue,
discern and offer advice on making pastoral decisions which corresponds as closely as
possible to God’s will (ITC, Syn., 67-68). Genuine efforts must be made to ensure the
inclusion of those at the margins or who feel excluded.
• Mission: The Church exists to evangelize. We can never be centered on ourselves. Our
mission is to witness to the love of God in the midst of the whole human family. This
Synodal Process has a deeply missionary dimension to it. It is intended to enable the
Church better witness to the Gospel, especially with those who live on the spiritual,
9
social, economic, political, geographical, and existential peripheries of our world. In this
way, synodality is a path by which the Church can more fully fulfill her mission of
evangelization in the world, as a leaven at the service of the coming of God’s kingdom.
The Aim of this Synod – Objectives of the Synodal Process. The Church recognizes the
synodality is an integral part of her very nature. Being a synodal Church finds expression in
ecumenical councils, Synod of Bishops. Diocesan synods, and diocesan and parish councils.
There are many ways by which we experience “synodality” already all across the Church. Yet
being a synodal Church is not limited to these existing institutions. Indeed, it is not so much an
event or slogan as a style and a way of being by which the Church lives out her mission in the
world. The mission of the Church requires the entire People of God to be on a journey together,
with each member playing his or her crucial role, united with each other. A synodal Church
walks forward in communion to pursue a common mission through the participation of each and
every one of the members.
The aim of the synodal process is not to provide a temporary or one-time experience of
synodality, but rather to provide an opportunity for the entire People of God to discern together
how to move forward on the path towards being a more synodal Church in the long-term. While
the Synod of Bishops, one of the fruits of the Second Vatican Council, has taken up until now as
a gathering of bishops with and under the authority of the Pope, the Church increasingly realizes
that synodality is the path for the entire People of God. Hence the Synodal process is no longer
only an assembly of bishops but a journey for all the faithful, in which every local Church has an
integral part to play. The Second Vatican Council reinvigorated the sense that all the baptized,
both the hierarchy and the laity, are called to be active participants in the saving mission of the
Church (LG, 32-33).
While recent Synods have examined themes such as the new evangelization, the family, young
people, and the Amazon, the present Synod focuses on the topic of synodality itself. The current
Synodal process is guided by a fundamental question: How does this “journeying together,”
take place today on different levels (from the local to the universal one), allowing the Church
to proclaim the Gospel in accordance with mission entrusted to her; and what steps is the
Spirit inviting us to take in order to grow as a synodal Church? (PD, 2)
In this light the objective of the current Synod is to listen, as the entire People of God, to what
the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church. We do so by listening together the Word of God in
Scripture and the living Tradition of the Church, and then by listening to one another, and
especially to those at the margins, discerning the sign of the times. In fact, the whole Synodal
Process aims at fostering a lived experience of discernment, participation, and co-responsibility,
where a diversity of gifts is brought together for the Church’s mission in the world.
It is clear that the purpose of this Synod “… is not to produce documents, but to plant dreams,
draw forth prophecies and visions, allow hope to flourish, inspire trust, bind up wounds, weave
10
together relationships, awaken a dawn of hope, learn from one another and create a bright
resourcefulness that will enlighten minds, warm hearts, give strength to our hands…” (PD, 32)
Thus, this Synodal Process is not only a series of exercises that start and stop, but rather a
journey of growing authentically towards the communion and mission that God calls the Church
to live out in the third millennium.
This journey together will call on us to renew our mentalities and our ecclesial structures in order
to live out God’s call for the Church amid the present signs of the times. Listening the People of
God will help the Church to make pastoral decisions that correspond as closely as possible to
God’s will (ITC, Syn., 68). The ultimate perspective to orient this synodal path of the Church is
to serve the dialogue of God with humanity (DV, 2) and to journey together the kingdom of God
(cf. LG, 9; RM, 20). In the end, this Synodal Process seeks to move towards a Church that is
more fruitfully at the service of the coming of the kingdom of heaven.
The synodal journey unfolds within a historical context marked by epochal changes in society
and by a crucial transition in the life of the Church, which cannot be ignored: it is within the
folds of the complexity of this context, in its tensions and contradictions, that we are called to
“scrutinize the signs of the times and interpret them in the light of the Gospel’ (GS, 4).” (PD, 4):
• the global tragedy of the COVID-19 pandemic
• inequalities and injustices: massification, fragmentation, the conditions faced by
migrants, divisions across the family of humanity
• the cry of the poor and the cry of the earth
• the lack of faith and the corruption even within the Church – experience of suffering by
minors and vulnerable people
We are all in the same boat…We are one human family living in our common home.
The Process of the Synod. The Synodal Process follows this overall flow:
• The General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops publishes the Preparatory Document
and the Vademecum as tools for the local Churches to carry out the diocesan phase of the
Synod.
• The fruits of the diocesan phase will be gathered into a synthesis for each local Church.
• Then a synthesis will be formulated by episcopal conferences and synods of Oriental
Churches, on the basis of the syntheses received from the local Churches. Other
ecclesiastical bodies will also take part in the consultation and can elaborate their own
synthesis.
• The General Secretariat will formulate the first edition of the Instrumentum Laboris
(working document) based on the syntheses received from episcopal conferences, synods
of oriental Churches, and the other ecclesial bodies mentioned by Episcopalis Communio.
11
• This first Instrumentum Laboris will then be discussed at the continental meetings.
• Based on the documents produced at the continental level, a second edition of the
Instrumentum Laboris will be elaborated for the use of the Assembly of the Synod of
Bishops in October 2023.
The Phases of the Synodal process
1. The Diocesan Phase
2. The Role of Episcopal Conferences and Synods of Oriental Churches
3. The Continental Phase – Seven Continental meetings: Africa (SECAM); Oceania
(FCBCO); Asia (FABC), Middle East (CPCO); Latin America (CELAM); Europe
(CCEE) and North America (USCCB and CCCB)
4. The Assembly of the Synod pf Bishops in Rome in October 2023
5. The Implementation Phase
The hope is that the experience of the Synodal Process will bring about a new springtime for
listening, discernment, dialogue, and decision -making, so that the whole People of God can
better journey together with one another and the entire human family, under the guidance of the
Holy Spirit
SYNODAL EXPERIENCE ON THE LOCAL LEVEL.
The Diocesan Phase. The first phase of the Synodal Process is a listening phase in local
Churches following an opening celebration in Rome. The diocesan phase of the synodal journey
will begin on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
As stated in the Preparatory Document (no. 31):
The purpose of the first phase of the synodal journey is to foster a broad consultation
process in order to gather the wealth of the experiences of lived synodality, in its different
articulations and facets, involving the Pastors and the Faithful of the [local] Churches at all
the different levels, through the most appropriate means according to the specific local
realities: the consultation, coordinated by the Bishop, is addressed “to the Priests, Deacons
and lay Faithful of their [local] Churches, both individually and in associations, without
overlooking the valuable contribution that consecrated men and women can offer (EC, 7).
The contribution of the participatory bodies of the [local] Churches is specifically
requested, especially that of the Presbyteral Council and the Pastoral Council, from which
a “synodal Church [can truly] begin to shape.” Equally valuable will be the contribution of
other ecclesial entities, as well as that of those who wish to send their own contribution
directly. Finally, it will be of fundamental importance that the voice of the poor and
12
excluded also find a place, not only that of those who have some role to play or
responsibility within the [local] Churches.
Each listening phase will be adapted to local circumstances. People in remote communities with
limited internet access are likely to have a different involvement than those in urban settings.
Communities currently in grips of the COVID-19 pandemic are likely to organize different
dialogue and listening opportunities than those with high rates of recovery. Whatever the local
circumstances, it is encouraged to focus on maximum inclusion and participation, reaching out
to involve the greatest number of people possible, and especially those on the periphery who are
often excluded and forgotten. Encouraging the widest participation possible will help to ensure
that the syntheses formulated at the levels of the dioceses, episcopal conferences, and the whole
Church capture the true realities.
The aim is not to overwhelm dioceses and parishes, but rather to integrate the Synodal process
into the life of the local Church in creative ways that promote deeper communion, fuller
participation, and fruitful mission.
The unfolding of the Synodal Process at the local level must also involve:
• Discernment through listening, to create space for the guidance of the Holy Spirit
• Accessibility, in order to ensure that as many people as possible can participate,
regardless of location, language, education, socio-economic status, ability/disability, and
material resources
• Cultural Awareness to celebrate and embrace the diversity within local communities
• Inclusion, making every effort to involve those who feel excluded or marginalized
• Partnership based on the model of a co-responsible Church
• Respect for the rights, dignity, and opinion of each participant
• Accurate syntheses that truly captures the range of critical and appreciative perspectives
of all the responses, including views that are expressed only by a minority of participants
• Transparency, ensuring that processes of invitation, involvement, inclusion, ang
aggregation of input are clear and well communicated
• Fairness, ensuring that participation in the listening process treats each person equally,
so that each voice can truly be heard
In this listening phase people are encouraged to gather, respond to stimulus
questions/images/scenarios together, listen to each other, and provide individual and group
feedback, ideas, reactions, and suggestions. However, if circumstances (such as pandemic
restrictions or physical distance) make face-to-face interaction difficult, then it is possible to use
moderated online discussion groups, self-guided online activities, chat groups, phone calls, and
various forms of social communication, as well as paper based and online questionnaires. Prayer
materials, biblical reflections, and sacred music, as well as works of art, poetry, and so on, can
also be used to stimulate reflection and dialogue.
13
This diocesan phase is an opportunity for parishes and dioceses to encounter, experience, and
live out the synodal journey together, thus discovering or developing synodal tools and pathways
that are best suited for their local context, which will ultimately become the new style of the
local Churches on the path of synodality.
It is strongly recommended that the consultation process in the diocese culminate in a Diocesan
Pre-Synodal Meeting that includes a liturgical celebration. A wide representation from across the
diocese should be invited to take part with the aim of coming together to pray, listen, reflect, and
discern the synodal path along which God’s Spirit is calling the whole diocese.
Thus, this Synod not only expects responses that can assist the Assembly of the Synod of
Bishops to be held in Rome in October 2023, but also desires to promote and develop the
practice and experience of being Synodal in the course of the process and in the future moving
forward.
The Road Map for the Diocesan Phase. The tasks involved in carrying out the listening and
dialogue phase are the following:
1. Appointing the Diocesan Contact Person (s)
2. Setting up a diocesan synodal team
3. Discerning the path for the diocese
4. Planning the participatory process
5. Preparing group coordinators for the synodal consultation meetings
6. Providing an orientation workshop for the diocesan team and local coordinators
7. Communicating to everyone
8. Implementing, Monitoring, and guiding the synodal consultation process
9. Diocesan Pre-Synodal Meeting
10. Preparing and Submitting the diocesan synthesis

The Main Question for Consultation. As mentioned above, this Synod poses the following
fundamental question: A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together.”
How is this” journeying together” happening today in your local Church? What steps does the
Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together”? (PD, 26)
In responding to this question, we are invited to:
• Recall our experiences: What experiences of our local Church does this question call to
mind?
• Re-read these experiences in greater depth: What joys did they bring? What difficulties
and obstacles have they encountered? What wounds did they reveal? What insight have
they elicited?
• Gather the fruits to share: Where in these experiences does the voice of the Holy Spirit
resound? What is the Spirit asking of us? What are the points to be confirmed, the
prospects for change, the steps to be taken? Where do we register a consensus? What
paths are opening up for our particular Church?
Addressing this question requires listening to the Holy Spirit, who like the wind “blows where it
wills; you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it
goes” (Jn 3:8), remaining open to the surprises of the Spirit will certainly prepare for us along the
way. Thus, a dynamism is activated that allows us to begin to reap some of the fruits of synodal
conversion, which will progressively mature.
Ten Thematic Nuclei to be Explored. To help people explore this fundamental question more
fully, the following themes highlight significant aspects of “lived synodality” (PD, 30). There are
questions accompanying each of the following ten themes that can be used as a starting point or
helpful guideline. Conversation and dialogue do not need to be limited to them. In responding to
these questions, it is helpful to remember that “journeying together occurs in two deeply
interconnected ways. First, we journey together with one another as the People of God. Next, we
journey together as the People of God with the entire human family. These two perspectives
enrich one another and are helpful for our common discernment towards deeper communion and
more fruitful mission.
1. Companions on the Journey
In the Church and in society we are side by side on the same road. In our local Church,
who are those who “walk together”? Who are those who seem further apart? How are we
called to grow as companions? What groups or individuals are left in the margins?
2. Listening
Listening is the first step, but it requires an open mind and heart, without prejudice. How
is God speaking to us through voices we sometimes ignore? How are the laity listened to,
especially women and young people? What facilitates or inhibits our listening? How well
15
do we listen to those in the peripheries? How is the contribution of consecrated men and
women integrated? What are some limitations in our ability to listen, especially those
who have different views than our own? What space is there for the voice of the
minorities, especially people who experience poverty, marginalization, or social
exclusion?
3. Speaking Out
All are invited to speak with courage and parrhesia, that is freedom, truth, and charity.
What enables or hinders speaking up courageously, candidly, and responsibly in our local
Church and in society? When and how do we manage to say what is important to us?
How does the relationship with the local media work (not only Catholic media)? Who
speaks on behalf of the Christian community, and how they are chosen?
4. Celebration
“Walking together” is only possible if it is based on communal listening to the Word and
the celebration of the Eucharist. How do prayer and liturgical celebrations actually
inspire and guide our common life and mission in our community? How do they inspire
the most important decisions? How do we promote active participation of all the faithful
in the liturgy? What space is given to participating in ministries of lector and acolyte?
5. Sharing Responsibility for Our Common Mission
Synodality is at the service of the mission of the Church, in which all members are called
to participate. Since we are all missionary disciples, how is every baptized person called
to participate in the mission of the Church? What hinders the baptized from being active
in mission? What areas of mission are we neglecting? How does community support its
members who serve society in various ways (social and political involvement, scientific
research, education, promoting social justice, protecting human rights, caring for the
environment, etc.)? How does the Church help these members to live out of service to
society in missionary way? How is discernment about missionary choices made and by
whom?
6. Dialogue in Church and Society
Dialogue requires perseverance and patience, but it also enables mutual understanding.
To what extent do diverse peoples in our community come together for dialogue? What
are the places and means of dialogue within our local Church? How do we promote
collaboration with neighboring dioceses, religious communities in the area, lay
associations and movements, etc.? How are divergencies of vision, or conflicts and
difficulties addressed? What particular issues in the Church and society do we need to
pay more attention to? What experiences of dialogue and collaboration do we have with
believers of other religions and with those who have no religious affiliation? How does
the Church dialogue with and learn from other sectors of society: spheres of politics,
economics, culture, civil society, and people who live in poverty?
16
7. Ecumenism
The dialogue between Christians of different confessions, united by one baptism, has a
special place in the synodal journey. What relationships does our Church community
have with members of other Christian traditions and denominations? What do we share
and how do we journey together? What fruits have we drawn from walking together?
What are the difficulties? How can we take the next step in walking forward with each
other?
8. Authority and Participation
A synodal Church is a participatory and co-responsible Church. How does our Church
community identify the goals to be pursued, the way to reach them, and the steps to be
taken? How is authority or governance exercise within our local Church? How are
teamwork and co-responsibility put into practice? How are evaluations conducted and by
whom? How are lay ministries and the responsibility of lay people promoted? Have we
had fruitful experiences of synodality on a local level? How do synodal bodies function at
the level of the local Church (Pastoral Councils in parishes and dioceses, Presbyteral
Council, etc.)? how can we foster a more synodal approach in our participation and
leadership?
9. Discerning and Deciding
In a synodal style we make decisions through discernment of what the Holy Spirit is
saying through our whole community. What methods and processes do we use in decision
making? How can they be improved? How do we promote participation in decision-
making within hierarchical structures? Do our decision-making methods help us listen to
the whole People of God? What is the relationship between consultation and decision-
making, and how do we put these into practice? What tools and procedures do we use to
promote transparency and accountability? How can we grow in communal spiritual
discernment?
10. Forming Ourselves in Synodality
Synodality entails receptivity to change, formation, and on-going learning. How does our
community form people to be more capable of “walking together,” listening to one
another, participating in mission, and engaging in dialogue? What formation is offered to
foster discernment and the exercise of authority in synodal way?
Each diocese, parish, or ecclesial group should not aim to cover all the questions but should
discern and focus on those aspects of synodality most pertinent to its context. Participants are
encouraged to share with honesty and openness about their real-life experiences, and to reflect
together on what the Holy Spirit might be revealing through what they share with one another.

REFLECTION: Jesus, the Crowd and the Apostles
Out of His great love for us Jesus, the Emmanuel came into our midst to be our companion
in the journey.
In the Gospel that we have heard, we see Jesus talking with the Samaritan woman by the
well. Let us remember that the Jews do not associate with the Samaritans and, in Jesus’
time, there is a kind of “social distancing” between the men and women.
As a Jew, Jesus knew very well this law, though unwritten, was being practiced by every
single righteous Jew. But Jesus did something... he stepped forward in order to reach out to
the woman. Maybe we could ask why? What must be His reason for doing so?
This particular action of Jesus show that our Lord came not only for a selected few, rather,
He came for all of us; not only for the Jews but also for the non-Jews. He came in a
particular way for those who are considered as worthless in society, those who are rejected
and abandoned, those who are referred to by our beloved Pope Francis as our brothers and
sisters in the peripheries.
The Gospels clearly illustrate how Jesus ministered to the sick: the lepers, the blind, the
mute, the lame, etc. He was in the company of sinners and he dined with them. Jesus
listened to them, gave them hope and He let them feel that that they are valuable especially
in the Kingdom of God.
There are also those believed and who followed Jesus because they heard his preaching.
These people had been waiting for the coming of the messiah and when they heard His
message, they believed that He is the one sent by God.
Furthermore, those who have witnessed the miracles that Jesus performed such as the
feeding of thousands of people also followed Him. The sick who experienced healing and
20
the sinners whose sins he had forgiven likewise followed Him because they have
experienced liberation from their suffering. They believed and followed our Lord as an
expression of gratitude while others did so because their thirsts were quenched and they
have found in Jesus the truth that they were seeking.
And, there were the apostles, the chosen ones whom Jesus sent to continue the mission of
salvation. These apostles were the mediators between Jesus and the crowd. They do not
block nor “put filters on His presence, but to make it easy to encounter him.” The apostles
are the close friends of Jesus whom he taught. They were the ones who witnessed His life,
His ministry, His passion, death and His glorious resurrection until He ascended back to His
Father in heaven. Through the apostles and their successors, the teachings of Jesus
continued to spread throughout the world.
But there is also the presence of the deceiver who wanted to destroy the relationship
between God and man. The deceiver’s minions are those who create division and twist the
truth in such a way that the teachings handed down by the apostles are not received by the
people in their entirety. There are erroneous ways that create confusion to the people and
this affects the enthusiasm and the smooth flow of the journey.
Amid all these things, the message of our Lord which is a message of salvation continues to
exhort us in our journey: not only for the rich, not only for those who are close to the
church and not only for the righteous. The message of salvation is also for the poor, for the
sinners, for those who do not go to church. It is also for those who do not have a voice in
society and for those of diverse cultures. Hence, the message of salvation is for everybody.
My dear brothers and sisters, we are all part of the Kingdom of God. As we continue our
journey in this world and as one Church, let us remember that your voice and my voice,
your experience and mine, is the experience of the Church... because you and I compose the
Church. We are the Church! Nobody is exempted, bishops, priests, nuns, lay people... each
one of us are precious in the heart of God.
Reflection: A Double Dynamic of Conversion: Peter and Cornelius
The Acts of the Apostles chapter 10 shows us the beautiful journey of Cornelius and Peter
towards conversion. On the one hand there is Cornelius, who is not baptized and is not even a
Jew, and there is Peter, the disciple of Jesus. Cornelius, a Roman soldier, sees a vision of an
angel inside his house. He is told by the angel to send his servants to Joppa to look for Peter and
to bring him back. And on the other, there is Peter, who sees a vision of God commanding him to
slaughter and to eat all the animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky. He does not understand the
vision, but he becomes open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Peter, who is stubbornly closed
21
before in accepting those who were not Jews, opens his doors to the servants of Cornelius and
even goes with them afterwards to meet Cornelius. And everything falls into place, not just the
conversion of Cornelius but also Peter’s conversion.
In Peter, we see that he moves from someone who is uncompromising to someone who is more
accepting in encountering and journeying Cornelius and his companions. This is made possible
through his openness to the workings of the Holy Spirit. God, in His wisdom and goodness,
slowly breaks into Peter’s biases and prejudices. And now, Peter sees clearly what the vision
meant; that God accepts and embraces everyone, including those who are not of the faith. He
understands that being chosen and set apart, as a Jew, does not mean to be distant from the
others, but that they are chosen and set apart to serve and to witness to God’s love and goodness.
The conversion of Peter and Cornelius shows to us an amazing journey of faith. In this journey,
they are accompanied by other people who are actually the instruments of their conversion. The
servants of Cornelius, whom Peter encounters, paves the way for his conversion. And Peter, who
travels with them to Joppa, sees now the significance of all the happenings. And when Peter
arrives at the house of Cornelius in Joppa, the real encounter begins as they listen to one another,
as they share their stories and experiences, and as they witness to God’s goodness in their own
lives.
How about us? Where are we in our journey as a lay person, as a religious, or as a priest?
Are we alone in our journey? Or do we have a companion?
Are we open in accepting those whom we encounter in our journey?
Are we open in listening to those whom we encounter in our journey?
Are we ready in sharing our own experiences to those whom we encounter?
And are we ready in receiving their own experiences also?
As co-journeyers, let us ask for the grace to be open to the workings of God’s Spirit, the
same Spirit who guides us in our journey.

SYNODALITY: HOLY HOUR - EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Intro:
Lord, we are here before you. We know that you are here with us today. You are our creator,
and we are your children. We are a Church that journeys together, shares and ministers to one
another.
We pray, that even in our time today, we can experience Your presence in our journey, through
the Holy Spirit that guide us.
Too often, we forget our responsibilities as a Church. We ask forgiveness for our weaknesses
and transgressions.
(1. THE JOURNEYING COMPANIONS.)
In our Church and in the community where we live, we are JOURNEYING side by side with
other people on the same road.
As a companion on that journey, at times my own desires were my priority. It was sometimes
difficultfor me to accept and acknowledge my companions in this journey. I sometimes tend to
chose who I wanted to be with in the ministry, in the community, at work;
For those times when I thought only of myself and did not care for others, especially those who
were poor and rejected, those who were powerless and weak;
For those times when I did not care about my surroundings and the people around me who are
left on the peripheries and do not know about you.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(2. LISTENING.)
In journeying together with fellow Christians, we need to LISTEN to one another, for us to have
an open mind and heart to love one another.
Lord, I know that you also speak to me through listening each other’s ideas, feelings and
experience.
For the times when I found it difficult to listen to people who have hurt me, to people who I look
down upon, to people who disagreewith my beliefs, to people whom I have negatively judged, to
people who in my view have nothing to contribute;
For the times when I made decisions without even caring or listening to the opinions of others;
23
For the people who wanted to come to me, but ended up not saying a word because of my
prejudices against them.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(3. SPEAKING OUT.)
Lord, Youinvited us to SPEAK OUT with courage to promote freedom, truth and love.
For the times when I hesitated to speak of the truth because of fear, pride and shame;
For the times when I chose to remain silent, so as not to get involved in the controversy;
For the times when I refuse to speak of the truth and facts, that could be the key to a peaceful
solution.
For the times when I failed to speak out and express my mind which would have benefited the
majority.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(4. CELEBRATION.)
Our “Journeying together” with fellow Christians is only possible when we listen to Your Word
and CELEBRATE the Eucharist as a community.
For the times when I was cold and my mind wandered and not focused on listening to your Word
in attending the Holy Mass;
For the times when I took communion even when I was not in a state of grace;
For the times when I was always in a hurry and had no time to greet with others in the
community;
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(5. SHARING RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR COMMON MISSION.)
As members of the Church journeying together,You invited us to SHARE and PARTICIPATE
in a COMMON MISSION.
For the times when I did not give my whole heart in serving the Church as a layman, religious,
priest or nun;
For the times when I have been a hindrance, instead of helping with the mission of the Church;
24
For the times when I have felt lazy and indifferent in my service to the Church.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(6. DIALOGUE IN CHURCH AND SOCIETY.)
Lord, you have gifted us with patience and fortitude, to engage in DIALOGUEso we can endure
in our journey as one community.
For the times when I refused to attend meetings or consultationsthat will promote peace and
unity;
For the times when I would insist on my own opinions, not listen to others, and even cause
conflict;
For the times that I do not respect the opinions of others, especially in the field of politics,
medicine, economics, culture and others.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(7. WITH OTHER CHRISTIAN DENOMINATIONS.)
You called us to journey WITH OTHER CHRISTIAN DENOMINATIONS , united with one
baptism.
For the times when I have treated others differently and refused to associate with brothers and
sisters from another denomination;
For the times when I did not participate in ecumenical activities or meetings;
For the times when I did not promote love and understanding among my brothers and sisters
from a different faith.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(8. AUTHORITY AND PARTICIPATION.)
Lord, you want us to PARTICIPATE and be CO-RESPONSIBLE in our journey as a synodal
Church.
For the times when I did not care about the visionand pastoral thrust of the Church in the
Archdiocese;
For the times when I did not attend meetings, seminars or recollections, when called for;
25
For the times when I engaged myself in criticizing and ruining the image of priests and the
Church hierarchy.
For the times when I refused to follow and participate in the programs of our parish.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(9. DISCERNING AND DECIDING.)
Lord, in our journey, we need your Holy Spirit in making DECISIONSandDISCERNMENT.
For the times when I have made a decision without proper discernment;
For the times when I did not consult with my colleagues and elders in making an important
decision for the good of the Church or the community;
For the times when I have taken steps that have done harm to others.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
(10. FORMING OURSELVES IN SYNODALITY.)
Lord, asa human person, as Christian, as families, and as a community, we need to form
ourselves according to your commandment of love.
For the times when I was reluctant to accept changes that would bring unity to all;
For the times when I believed that I was always right and would not accept new teaching, new
ideas, new perspectives.
For the times when I preferred to be alone and insisted on my own ways.
LORD, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Oh Lord, we want to unite with you, as Your children. In this day and age, we have gone through
a lot of hardships. But you never leave us.
You have called us to be Christ to others,from where we are now, to continue your Mission;
Open our minds and hearts so we can see and get to know the people around us— our journeying
companions.
26
We have many companions in this journey.
How wonderful it is for peace and love to prevail over us. How beautiful to hear each other’s
voices and desires as we walk side by side on the same road.
Deliver us Lord, from divisions that deprive us from journeying together as one Church. Take
away our pride, envy, jealousy, rivalry, greed, selfishness and hatred.
Let us be a synodal Church- journeying together in Communion, Participation, and Mission.
PRAISE YOU O LORD! NOW AND FOREVER. AMEN.
Attitudes for Participating in the Synodal Process
The following are particular attitudes that enable genuine listening and dialogue:
• Being synodal requires time for sharing: We are invited to speak with authentic
courage and honesty (parrhesia) in order to integrate freedom, truth, and charity.
Everyone can grow in understanding through dialogue;
• Humility in listening must correspond to the courage of speaking: Everyone has the
right to be heard, just as everyone has the right to speak. Synodal dialogue depends on
courage both in speaking and in listening. It is not about engaging in a debate to convince
others. Rather, it is welcoming what others say as a way by which the Holy Spirit can
speak for the good of all (1 Cor 12:7);
• Dialogue leads us to newness: We must be willing to change our opinions based on what
we have heard from others;
• Openness to conversion and change: We can often be resistant to what the Holy Spirit
is trying to inspire us to undertake. We are called to abandon attitudes of complacency
and comfort that lead us to make decisions purely on the basis of how things have been in
the past.
• Synods are an ecclesial exercise in discernment: Discernment is based on conviction
that God is at work in the world and we are called to listen to what the Spirit suggests to
us;
• We are signs of a Church that listens and journeys: By listening, the Church follows
the example of God himself, who listens to the cry of his people. The Synodal Process
provides us with opportunity to pen ourselves to listen in an authentic way, without
resorting to ready-made answers or pre-formulated judgments;
• Leave behind prejudices and stereotypes: We can be weighed down by our weaknesses
and sinfulness. The first step towards listening is freeing our minds and hearts from
prejudices and stereotypes that lead us to the wrong path, towards ignorance and division;
27
• Overcome the scourge of clericalism: The Church is the Body of Christ filled with
different charisms in which each member has a unique role to play. We are all
interdependent on one another and we all share an equal dignity amidst the holy People
of God. In the image of Christ, true power is service. Synodality calls upon pastors to
listen attentively to flock entrusted to their care, just as it calls the laity to freely and
honestly express views. Everyone listens to one other out of love, in a spirit of
communion and our common mission. Thus, the power of the Holy Spirit is manifested in
manifold ways in and through the entire the People of God.
• Cure the virus of self-sufficiency: we are all in the same boat. Together we form the
Body of Christ. Setting aside the mirage of self-sufficiency, we are able to learn from
each other journey together and be at the service of one another. We can build bridges
beyond the walls that sometimes threaten to separate us – age, gender, wealth, ability,
education, etc.;
• Overcoming ideologies: We must avoid the risk of giving greater importance ideas than
to the reality of the life of faith that people live in a concrete way;
• Give rise to hope: Doing what is right and true does not seek to attract attention or make
headlines, but rather aims at being faithful to God and serving His People. We are called
to be beacons of hope, not prophets of doom;
• Synods are a time to dream and “spend with the future”: We are encouraged to create
a local process that inspires people, with no one excluded to create a vision of the future
filled with the joy of the Gospel. The following dispositions will help participants (cf.
Christus Vivit):
o An innovative outlook: To develop new approaches, with creativity and a certain
audacity;
o Being inclusive: A participatory and co-responsible Church, capable of
appreciating its own rich variety, embraces all those we often forget or ignore.
o An open mind: Let us avoid ideological labels and make use of all methodologies
that have borne fruit.
o Listening to each and every one: By learning from one another, we can better
reflect the wonderful multi-faceted reality that Christ’s Church is meant to be.
o An understanding of “journeying together”: To walk the path that God calls the
Church to undertake for the third millennium.
o Understanding the concept of a co-responsible Church: To value and involve the
unique role and vocation of each member of the Body of Christ, for the renewal
and building up of the whole Church.
o Reaching out through ecumenical and interreligious dialogue: To dream together
and journey with one another throughout the entire human family.
28
AVOIDING PITFALLS
As on any journey, we need to be aware of possible pitfalls that could hamper our progress
during this time of synodality. The following are several pitfalls that must be avoided in order to
promote the vitality and fruitfulness of the Synodal Process.
1) The temptation of wanting to lead ourselves instead of being led by God. Synodality
is not a corporate strategic exercise. Rather it is a spiritual process that is led by the Holy
Spirit. We can be tempted to forget that we are pilgrims and servants on the path marked
out for us by God. Our humble efforts of organization and coordination are at the service
of God who guides us on our way. We are clay in the hands of the divine Potter (Isaiah
64:8).
2) The temptation to focus on ourselves and our immediate concerns. The Synodal
Process is an opportunity to open up, to look around us, to see things from other points of
view, and to move out in missionary outreach to the peripheries. This requires us to think
long-term. This also means broadening our perspectives to the dimensions of the entire
Church and asking questions, such as: What is God’s plan for the Church here and now?
How can we implement God’s dream for the Church on the local level?
3) The temptation to only see “problems”. The challenges, difficulties, and hardships
facing our world and our Church are many. Nevertheless, fixating on the problems will
only lead us to be overwhelmed, discouraged, and cynical. We can miss the light if we
focus only on the darkness. Instead of focusing only on what is not going well. Let us
appreciate where the Holy Spirit is generating life and see how we can let God work
more fully.
4) The temptation of focusing only on structures. The Synodal Process will naturally call
for a renewal of structures at various levels of the Church, in order to foster deeper
communion, fuller participation, and more fruitful mission. At he same time, the
experience of synodality should not focus first and foremost on structures, but on the
experience of journeying together to discerning the path forward, inspired by the Holy
Spirit. The conversion and renewal of structures will come about only through the on-
going conversion and renewal of all members of the Body of Christ.
5) The temptation not to look beyond the visible confines of the Church. In expressing
the Gospel in our lives, lay women and men act us a leaven in the world in which we live
and work. A Synodal Process is a time to dialogue with people from the worlds of
economics and science, politics and culture, arts and sport, the media and social
initiatives. It will be a time to reflect on ecology and peace, life issues and migration. We
must keep the bigger picture in view to fulfill our mission in the world. It is also an
opportunity to deepen the ecumenical journey with other Christian denominations and to
deepen our understanding with other faith traditions.
6) The temptation to lose focus of the objectives of the Synodal Process. As we proceed
along the journey of the Synod, we need to be careful that, while our discussions might
29
be wide-ranging, the Synodal Process maintains the goal of discerning how God calls us
to walk forward together going to resolve all our concerns and problems. Synodality is an
attitude and an approach of moving forward in a co-responsible way that is open to
welcoming God’s fruits together over time.
7) The temptation of conflict and division. “That they may all be done” (John 17:21). This
is the ardent prayer of Jesus to the Father, asking for unity among his disciples. The Holy
Spirit leads us deeper into communion with God and one another. The seeds of division
bear no fruit. It is vain to try to impose one’s ideas on the whole Body through pressure
or to discredit those who feel differently.
8) The temptation to treat the Synod as a kind of parliament. This confuses synodality
with a “political battle” in which in order to govern one side must defeat the other. It is
contrary to the spirit of synodality to antagonize others or to encourage divisive conflicts
that threaten the unity and communion of the Church.
9) The temptation to listen only to those who are already involved in Church activities.
This approach may be easier to manage, but it ultimately ignores a significant proportion
of the People of God.
SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION (A method for the local consultations)
Spiritual Conversation is a method for group dialogue which resonates with the principles of
synodality. It promotes active participation, attentive listening, reflective speaking, and spiritual
discernment. This method takes about at least an hour and comprises three rounds of sharing.
1. Participants form small groups of about 6-7 persons from diverse background
2. Usually, each small group will have a facilitator and note-taker
3. In the first round, everyone takes equal turns to share the fruit of his or her prayer, in
relation to the reflection questions circulated beforehand (see Appendix on
questionnaire). There is no discussion is this round and all the participants simply listen
deeply to each person and attend to how the Holy Spirit is moving within oneself, within
the speaking person, and in the group as a whole.
4. This is followed by a time of silence.
5. In the second round, participants share what struck them most in the first round and what
moved them in the time of silence. Some dialogue can occur, and the same spiritual
attentiveness is maintained.
6. Once again this is followed by a time of silence
7. Finally in the third round, participants reflect on what seems to be resonating in the
conversation and what moved them most deeply. New insights and even unresolved
questions are also noted.
8. Spontaneous prayer of gratitude can conclude the conversation.
9. Once the group conversation has taken place, participants should review and share about
their experience of the process within the small group. How was the experience? What
were the ups and downs? What new and refreshing insights might they have discovered?
30
What they learned about the synodal way of proceeding? How was God present and at
work during their time together?
10. Participants should then decide on the feedback they wish to communicate to the
organizing/facilitation team
11. All participants can then come together to conclude the gathering. One representative
from each group can briefly share about the experience of the group. The participants
should be informed about the next stage of the Synodal Process, so that they will know
how their input will contribute to the whole Church.
12. It is recommended that the gathering conclude in prayer or song of thanksgiving.
After the gathering, the organizing/facilitation team members can meet and review the whole
experience and to prepare the synthesis based on the feedback submitted by all the small groups.
They can then forward their synthesis to the[ vicariate/district] Diocesan Contact Person (s).

ALANG SA USA KA SINODANONG SIMBAHAN:
PAGHIUSA, PAGSALMOT, PAGMISYON
(Third Millennium). Subay sa nagsunod nga kabag-ohan sa Simbahan nga gisugyot sa Ikaduhang
Konsilyo Vaticano (2nd Vatican Council), kining hiniusang panaw parehas nga gasa ug tahas:
Simbahan: Paghiusa, Pagsalmot, Pagmisyon.”
atong gisaw-an.
Kining maong Sinodanong Proseso may
3. Ang Hut-ong Kontinental – Pito (7) ka mga pagtigom kontinental: Africa (SECAM);
Oceania (FCBCO); Asia (FABC); Middle East (CPCO); Latin America (CELAM);
Europe (CCEE) ug North America (USCCB ug CCCB)
pamaagi nga makapalambo ug mas lawom nga kahiusa, mas tunhay nga pagsalmot, ug mas
gibaliwala o gipadaplin.

nagpasupot niining uluhang pangutana:
tema nga mahimong gamiton isip sinugdanan o giya nga makatabang. Ang panag-istoryahanay
ug dayalogo dili limitado lamang kanila.
dalan. Una, nagpanaw kita kauban sa usag-usa isip Katawhan sa Dios. Sunod, nagpanaw kita isip
Katawhan sa Dios kauban sa tibuok banay sa katawhan. Kining duha ka perspektibo mopalambo
sa usag-usa ug makatabang sa atong hiniusang pagsuta padulong sa mas lawom nga paghiusa ug
mas mabungahon nga pagmisyon.
1. Kauban sa Panaw
Diha sa Simbahan ug sa katilingban managkauban kita sa samang dalan. Diha sa atong
lokal nga Simbahan, kinsa man ang “nagkuyog sa pagpanaw”? Kinsa man ang morag
layo nga naa sa gawas? Sa unsang paagi nga kita gitawag aron motubo isip
managkauban?
kagawasan, kamatuoran, ug gugma. Unsa man ang makadasig o makababag sa pagsulti
nga maisogon, prangka, ug responsable diha sa atong lokal nga Simbahan ug diha sa
katilingban?
media)? Kinsa man ang mamulong sa ngalan sa Kristohanong katilingban ug giunsa man
sila pagpili?
4. Pagsaulog
misyon nga atong nataligam-an?
43
pamaagi unsaon pagkab-ot niini? Giunsa man pagbansay ang awtoridad o pagdumala sa
sulod sa atong lokal nga Simbahan? Giunsa man nga ang pagtinabangay ug
Unsaon man nato pagpalambo og mas
sinodanong pamaagi diha sa atong pagsalmot ug pagpangulo?
9. Pagsuta ug Paghukom
Unsaon man nato
pagtubo diha sa espirituhanong pagsusi nga katilingbanon?
pagkat-on. Giunsa man sa atong katilingban pag-umol sa katawhan nga mas makahimo
sa “kaubang paglakaw,” pagpamati sa usag-usa, pagsalmot diha sa misyon, ug pag-apil sa
panagsabot?

PAMALANDONG: Si Jesus, Ang Mga Tawo ug Ang Mga Apostoles
paghimamat, ug pagpanaw uban kanila.

SYNODALITY: HOLY HOUR - EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE
Intro:
Nangandoy kami, nga bisan niining among panahon karon, masinati namo ang ikaw naga-uban
sa among pag-panaw. Makadungog kami sa imong tingog, pinaagi sa Balaang Espiritu nga mag-
giya kanamo.
1. COMPANIONS ON THE JOURNEY.
among madugog sa uban.
PASAYLOA AKO, GINOO.
3. SPEAKING OUT. Gihatagan mo kami ug gasa sa kadasig, gasa sa pagpasabot sa paagi nga
mahigugmaon, gasa sa gawasnon nga pagpadayag ug pagpatigbabaw sa kamatuoran.
50
paagi nga kami mahiusa diha Kanimo sa among panaw.
bug-at nga sala.
5. SHARING RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR COMMON MISSION. Isip binunyagan ug
PASAYLOA AKO, GINOO.
6. DIALOGUE IN CHURCH AND SOCIETY.
PASAYLOA AKO, GINOO
8. AUTHORITY AND PARTICIPATION.
PASAYLOA AKO, GINOO.
9. DISCERNING AND DECIDING.
PASAYLOA AKO, GINOO.
10. FORMING OURSELVES IN SYNODALITY. Ang Simbahan nga kaubang nagpanaw
andam modawat ug kausaban ug mga bag-ong pagtulun-an.
ong pamaagi, bag-ong panglantaw.
PASAYLOA AKO, GINOO.
CLOSING PRAYER:
O GINOO, buot kami nga mahimong kabahin sa Imong panon. Niining panahon karon, daghan
ang mga kalisdanan nga among naagian. Apan wala ka mobiya kanamo. Sa kanunay ikaw
nagtawag kanamo aron mahimong Kristo ngadto sa uban, dinhi sa among nahimutangan. Ablihi
ang among hunahuna ug kasing-kasing aron makakita ug makaila kami sa mga tawo sa among
palibot – among mga kauban sa panaw.
Pagkadaku diay sa among panon. Pagkadaghan sa among kauban. Pagkaanindot kon
kasina, pagdinautay, pag-indigay, pagka-hakug, pag-iyahay ug pagka-madinumtanon.
Himoa kaming usa ka Simbahan nga kaubang nagpanaw diha sa Pag-hiusa, Pag-salmot ug Pag-
Misyon.
DAYGON IKAW O DIYOS, HANGTUD SA KAHANGTURAN.
MGA KINAIYA SA SINODANO NGA PROSESO
53
mosunod:
• Pagkasinodano nagkinahanglan og panahon alang sa pag-inambitay: Gidapit
kita sa pagsulti uban sa matuod nga kaisog ug pagkamatinud-anon (parrhesia) aron
maapil ang kagawasan, kamatuoran, ug gugma. Matag usa makatubo sa pagsabot pinaagi
sa dayalogo;
uban. Hinoon, pagdawat kini kon unsa ang gisulti sa uban isip agianan nga pinaagi niini
ang Espiritu Santo makasulti alang sa kaayohan sa tanan (1 Cor 12:7);
• Dayalogo magdala ngadto sa kabag-ohan: Gikinahanglan nga andam kita nga
mousab sa atong mga opinyon binase kon unsay atong nadungog gikan sa uban;
nangagi;
ang gisugyot sa Espirtu kanato;
human nang daan nga mga tubag o hinimo nang daan nga mga paghukom;
agianan, padulong sa walay alamag ug pagkabahinbahin;
diha ug pinaagi sa tibuok Katawhan sa Dios;
katigayonan, abilidad, edukasyon, ug uban pa;
nga gipuy-an sa mga tawo sa konkreto nga paagi;
kahayag sa paglaom, dili mga propeta sa kalaglagan;
uban sa pagkamamugnaon ug pagkamapangahason;
mapasalamaton sa iyang kaugalingong kabuhong sa pagka-daiya, modawat
niadtong tanan nga kanunay natong makalimtan o dili matagad;
ang mga pamaagi nga nagmabungahon na;
o Pagpamati matag usa ug sa tanan: pinaagi sa pagkakat-on gikan sa usag-usa, mas
makapamalandong kita sa kaanindot sa daghang-nawong nga reyalidad sa mao
gayud untang Simbahan ni Kristo;
pagasubayon, diin ang Dios nagatawag kanato, alang sa ika-tulong milenyo;
alang sa kabag-ohan ug katukoran sa tibuok Simbahan;
o Pagkab-ot pinaagi sa ekumenikanhon ug interreligious nga dayalogo: Hiniusang
pagdamgo ug pagpanaw uban sa usag-usa latas sa tibuok banay sa katawhan.
55
MGA KAHIWIAN NGA LIKAYAN
(Avoiding Pitfalls)
kahiwian nga makalangan as atong kalamboan niining panahon sa sinodalidad.
Dili nato makit-an ang kahayag kon magpunting
mapalandungong pagsulti, ug espirtuhanong pagsusi.
Komusta man ang kasinatian? Unsa man ang mga ups and downs? Unsa man ang mga
bag-o ug lab-as nga mga panghunahuna nga nadiskubrihan? Unsa man ang ilang nakat-

Adsumus Sancte Spiritus
(Pag-ampo alang sa Sinodo)
Nagabarog kami atubangan Kanimo, Balaang Espiritu
ingon nga kauban kaming nagkatigom sa Imong ngalan.
Uban kanimo lamang nga mogiya kanamo,
himoa ang Imong kaugalingon nga magpuyo sa among kasingkasing;
tudloi kami sa dalan nga gikinahanglan namong pagasubayon
ug unsaon pagsunod niini.
Huyang kami ug makasasala;
Tugoti kami nga makakaplag sa among kahiusahan diha Kanimo
aron kauban kaming mopanaw
ngadto sa kinabuhing dayon ug dili motipas
gikan sa dalan sa kamatuoran ug katarung.
Kining tanan among gipangayo Kanimo nga naglihok sa tanang dapit ug panahon
diha sa kahiusahan sa Amahan ug Anak
hangtud sa kahangturan. Amen.
