From the Desk of Ms. HallWelcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I hope you enjoyed a relaxing and fun summer vacation. We are thrilled to welcome all of you back to a new school year of learning and growing. We are also excited to welcome our new Developmental Kindergarten students and families! Personally, I am very grateful to continue this journey with you as now principal of Tri-County Primary School. During my time here, I have had a chance to meet many of you and look forward to continue building a strong relationship with all of you in the upcoming school year.

As we enter this new school year, I want to let you know that our staff will be engaging in meaningful conversations about student data, technology, and having a growth mindset, both for themselves and all students. We believe that every person in this building should always be growing and learning and believe in our ability to rise above challenges.

From The Desk of Dr. GoadShortly after dawn on Thursday, August 10th the buses will start their engines indicating the 2017-2018 school year has arrived. Over 700 students in Development Kindergarten through high school and 120 staff members will fill the halls of our three schools and the new academic year will commence. We look forward to welcoming home our Tri-County family!

Tri-County Schools pledge to elevate and empower

students to embrace challenges, optimize effort, exceed

expectations, surpass goals, and reach their highest

level of person educational achievement.

This pledge serves as our school purpose and mission and is modeled by the dedicated individuals who serve as members of our skilled staff. Working within the instructional framework of Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships™ our learners are provided an education which assures they will be prepared to meet the challenges of the real-world.

REACH HIGHER

Our tagline, REACH HIGHER, exemplifies how we address each day. The simple and often recited phrase is one every student and every staff member can relate to. To reach means to succeed, to stretch, to extend; while higher refers to having great extent, lofty, upward, elevated, exceeding the common degree, strong and intense. Each of us, no matter where we start, have the opportunity to REACH HIGHER every day.

P.R.I.D.E.

Tri-County Schools have much to be proud of, however, we take nothing for granted. In everything we do, we take much care to continually develop our students and staff to reach their highest level of personal academic achievement. As a participant in the White County P.R.I.D.E. program our students and staff are challenged daily to exhibit Persistence, Respectfulness, Initiative, Dependability and Efficiency.

With the programming we have in place we are confident the 2017-2018 school year will exceed our expectations. We can’t wait for August 10th when we can meet our students at the door and say “Welcome Home!”

Pesticide Application NoticePeriodically throughout the year, it may be necessary that pesticides be applied to external and internal areas of the school building and grounds. If you wish to be given notice of such pesticide applications, please notify the principal of the building. You will be given a form to fill out and will be notified of any pesticide application with at least a 48-hour notice. Pesticide applications will not be done when children, staff members or any other people are present in the area that is to be sprayed.

After School ProgramThe Tri-County Intermediate School will have an after school daycare program. This program is a prepay program for any student in grades K-6. Students at Tri-County Primary will be bussed to the Intermediate School. Parents will need to pick up their child/children by 6:00 p.m.

A small snack will be served. Other planned activities will include some recreational free time, some study time, and some common group time.

Students may stay at the school for up to 3 hours a day. They can attend daily or once in awhile. The cost for this program is $6.00 daily. Weekly rates then would be $30.00. Fees must be paid by the Thursday prior to the week the child will be staying. The second child in the family will be charged $3.50 daily. Families with more than two students enrolled will be on a sliding scale for the other children.

You may enroll your child/children in the after school program during school registration on Monday, July 31st, and Tuesday, August 1st. If your child would only attend the after school program once in awhile they should be enrolled one school day prior to staying after school. Please get enrollment forms in either school office.

If you have questions about the program, please call the Tri-County Intermediate School at (219) 279-2138.

SCHOOL DELAYS, CLOSINGS and EARLY DISMISSAL(PLEASE KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE)

There are times when school must be delayed or closed due to inclement weather or other emergencies. When this becomes necessary, the Superintendent will make the decision as early as possible to allow parents to make alternative plans. Once the decision is made a School Messenger alert call will be sent out to all parents/stakeholders who have signed up for this service. You can do so by signing up during school registration. You may opt for a phone call, a text, email or any combination of the three. Delays and closings will also be reported through Facebook & Twitter and the following news media:

WLFI TV-18 In the case of an unexpected early dismissal, we are requesting that each family formulate a plan so the children will know what to do. Parents of elementary students are asked to send a note to your child’s teacher and bus driver, if he or she rides a bus, explaining your family’s plan. Parents of Junior/Senior High School students should discuss this plan with their child(ren).

Tri-County Jr. Sr. High School: 2017-2018 Dear Parents, Students and Community Members,

What an exciting time of the year! The beginning of another school year is certainly full of eager anticipation for the vast learning opportunities and experiences that lie ahead in order to prepare all of our students for college and career!

The Tri-County Schools are known in educational circles as pillars of excellence in providing a high quality to all students and nowhere is that more evidenced than at the junior high/high school level. We continue to embrace the Rigor, Relevance and Relationships model, supported by the International Center for Leadership in Education and continue to work to improve our school by continually seeking ways to help make students successful.

The Tri-County School Corporation has embarked on an aggressive and ambitious campaign to Reach Higher. What this means for students and staff at the Junior/Senior High School, is a commitment to never settle for less than the best; to strive for excellence; to exceed any expectations that others put upon us or that we put upon ourselves; to always reach for the unattainable but believe that it is attainable. This framework, from an outsider’s perspective at this point, is very tangible and real. In conversations with teachers and staff, their commitment is genuine and unwavering. Staff understand the important work that must be done to challenge and empower students toward excellence and this is evident in their actions as well.

As the Junior/Senior High School looks to continue on this path of mindfulness in embracing challenges, exceeding expectations and surpassing goals, we will also be continuing our journey toward Close Reading and Writing after a close reading and also infusing daily silent, sustained reading for all students. We know that to be proficient readers and writers, students need to read and write consistently. Tri-County Jr/Sr High School is also proud to have received a $15,000 Grace Pampel Reading grant. This grant has helped to provide professional development for teachers in the area of reading and writing and is helping us secure books for classroom libraries. Reading incentives have also been secured through this grant.

While it is our corporation goal to strive for excellence and reach higher in all we do, we cannot do the work alone. We ask you to help us in setting and holding to higher expectations for your student. Encourage your student to do more than what they think they can. Challenge them to give their personal best in all they do. Acknowledge them for their personal best and find ways to recognize them when they do stretch beyond their comfort zone. For in this moment of ‘stretch’ and growth, they will be internally reinforced and strengthened.

We hope you will make plans to join us on Monday, August 14th from 5:30pm-7:00pm for our Back to School Night with Family Picnic! This should be a nice evening to meet your child’s teachers and help your child get back into the swing of school again! We do appreciate what you do at home to reinforce and help your child to flourish at school—it continues to make a difference no matter what grade they are in, or how old they are. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us, for school and home are a true partnership!

Respectfully, Dr. Cathy Rowe

FROM THE DESK OF MR. HAGANThank you to everyone in the Tri-County community for an outstanding six years working with the best parents, staff, and students anyone could hope for. We are planning a very exciting year with many new opportunities for students, teachers, and families to work together in setting the foundations for life-long love of learn-ing. All of our students REACH HIGHER by embracing challenges, surpassing goals, and reaching their highest level of personal educational achievement.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be the Principal at Tri-County Intermediate School for the 2017-18 school year. We look forward to engaging all students in collaborative classroom instruction and STEM activities, as well as adding a new robotics team. Welcome to two new members of our team; Natasha Demerly who will be teaching 5th grade, and Kasey Buschman who will be our special education resource teacher.

Every student, teacher and staff member of Tri-County live by our vision to REACH HIGHER, and over the years of establishing this vision, our parents and community have taken it on as well. It takes all of us working togeth-er to push our students and children to reach their highest level of personal educational achievement. I would like to continue building our relationships between school, parents, and community throughout the year as we all work together to provide our children the foundations of learning. I welcome you to be as active within the school as you can, and I look forward to another outstanding year at Tri-County!
