• The impact of depression in the workplace includes:

– 3-4 days off work/month for each person experiencing depression

– over 6 million working days lost each year in Australia

– 12 million days of reduced productivity each year

• R U OK? is a not-for-profit organisation whose vision is a world where we’re all connected and are protected from suicide

• MOU signed September 2014

• Resonated extremely well within the rail industry

Rail suicide prevention

Suicide awareness training for station staff – January 2016

• Based on program piloted by RailCorp

• Reviewed by Black Dog Institute

Community Stations • 30% of rail suicides happen at stations • Contributing factor - feelings of isolation and disconnect• By changing the ambience of the station the aim is alter the

environment to make it a place of belonging• Trial at four stations in Melbourne 2016, view to extend to NSW and
