MR. A. GEORGE BULLOCK, TreasurerAMERICAN ANTIQUARIAN SOCIETY

WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS

We have examined the accompanying statement of assets andfund balances of the American Antiquarian Society as of August 31,1970 and the related statements of operations—current funds andchanges in fund balances for the year then ended which are all on acash basis. Our examination was made in accordance with generallyaccepted auditing standards, and accordingly included such tests ofthe accounting records and such other auditing procedures as weconsidered necessary in the circumstances.

It is not practicable to establish accounting control over cash re-ceipts prior to recording them. Accordingly, our audit procedureswith respect to cash receipts were limited to recorded transactions.Furthermore, we did not obtain confirmation of the uncollected sub-scriptions from contributors (Note A).

In our opinion, the financial statements referred to above presentfairly the assets and fund balances of the American Antiquarian So-ciety at August 31, 1970 and the results of its operations for theyear then ended, on a cash basis which is consistent with that of thepreceding year.
