Buku pelajaran adalah sumber utama yang dapat menyampaikan

pengetahuan dan informasi kepada peserta didik dengan cara yang mudah dan

terorganisir. Karena buku pelajaran memberi mereka penjelasan tentang materi

dan latihan, para siswa dapat belajar dengan lebih baik sendiri (Ahour dan

Ahmadi 2012). Karena fakta ini, buku teks telah menjadi sumber utama bagi guru

dan siswa untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran di kelas (Richard, 2017). Saat

ini, ada banyak buku komersial yang digunakan oleh guru sebagai bahan utama.

Oleh karena itu, perlu untuk memilih buku teks yang cocok untuk siswa dengan

menganalisis buku teks bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk

mendeskripsikan kualitas buku teks bahasa Inggris untuk kelas VI sekolah dasar

berjudul "Stairway: A Fun and Easy English Book" berdasarka kriteria Evaluasi

Mukundan dan Nimehchisalem (2015). Fokus dari penelitian ini adalah analisis

buku teks tentang sejauh mana buku teks memenuhi kriteria sebagai buku yang

baik berdasarkan dari Mukundan dan Nimehchisalem (2015). Penelitian ini

menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif dan dikategorikan sebagai analisis

dokumen. Peneliti memperoleh data dengan menggunakan kriteria evaluasi dari

Mukundan dan Nimehchisalem (2015). Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa kualitas

buku teks bahasa Inggris "Stairway: A English Fun dan Easy Book for Grade VI

Sekolah Dasar adalah “kegunaan sedang” dengan mencapai skor rata-rata 2,715.

Buku teks sesuai dengan kriteria dalam hal atribut umum dan konten

pembelajaran mengajar.

Kata Kunci: Evaluasi Buku Teks, Buku Teks Bahasa Inggris, Daftar Evaluasi

Mukundan dan Nimehchisalem.

Textbooks are the main sources that can convey the knowledge and

information to the learners in an easy and organized way. Since the textbook

provides them with the explanations about the materials and exercises, the

students can study better by themselves (Ahour & Ahmadi, 2012). Due to this

fact, textbooks have been the major source for teachers and students to support the

learning process in the classroom (Richards, 2011). Nowadays, there are many

commercial books that is using by teachers as the major materials. Therefore, it is

necessary to choose the suitable textbooks for students by analyzing the English

textbook. This study aims to describe the quality of the English textbook for grade

VI of elementary school entitled “Stairway: A Fun and Easy English Book” based

on Mukundan and Nimehchisalem‟s (2015) Evaluation Checklist criteria. The

focus of this study is the analysis of textbook about the extent which the textbook

meet the criteria as a good book based on the Mukundan and Nimehchisalem‟s

(2015) Evaluation Checklist. This study applied descriptive qualitative design and

was categorized as documentary analysis. The researcher gained the data by using

the evaluation checklist from Mukundan and Nimehchisalem‟s (2015). The

findings revealed that the quality of English textbook "Stairway: A Fun and Easy

English Book for Grade VI of Elementary School is “moderate usefulness”

achieving the average score of 2.715. The textbook fits the criteria in terms of

general attributes and teaching learning content.
