Message froM the ChairMan

Dear Colleagues,

Flattening the World — The Economic, Political and Technical Impact of Global Sourcing — Real Life Insights from Experts on What works (and What Doesn’t ) in Dealing with the “New Normal”

New economic realities and globalization are bringing about significant changes in how businesses operate. Uncertain economic conditions, the rise of protectionism and the growing demand for global resources are among the forces that will shape corporations in the years ahead. As firms deal with a Flattening world on one hand and a new reality of a roller-coaster economy on the other hand, they have to re-align their business, technology and sourcing strategy. Sourcing is increasingly becoming part of a company’s core business agenda. However, in a business environment with heightened sensitivity, each move related to Global Sourcing becomes more critical and each decision has a far-reaching impact.

To stay competitive and thrive in the New Normal, companies have to deliver more value at lower costs. Global Sourcing has become a transformational lever that can empower businesses to take on new competition as well as develop new markets. It impacts economies of developed as well as emerging countries and is shaping the way relationships are being built between corporations and governments across the world. Harnessing the power of Global Sourcing requires an understanding of its footprint both globally and locally.

The World BPO/ITO Forum assembles some of the leading thinkers on the political, economic and tech-nical aspects of sourcing for an open debate and offers a practical guide to navigate the white waters of the “new normal”. Whether your organization is a current user of global sourcing or considering such a move in the future, this Forum will provide a valuable perspective from around the globe.

Over the last 4 years World BPO/ITO Forum has come to be recognized as the “Davos of Offshoring” and has brought together path-breaking executives, academics, providers and visionaries from around the world to share their ideas in a peer group environment. Participants from mature regions such as India, the Philippines, Brazil and Malaysia as well as more emerging ones such as Argentina, Poland and Hungary demonstrate how this industry has taken globalization to the next level.

With two tracks featuring Globalization and Leadership topics on one and Strategic/Operational issues related to Global Sourcing on the other, this conference addresses the needs of CIOs, CFOs and CEOs as well as Sourcing executives. The “Sourcing Strategy and Best Practices” track will illustrate how ex-ecutives can implement and harness Global Sourcing to enable Competitiveness and achieve Business transformation. By sharing valuable insights and hard-won lessons the sessions in this track will enable executives to embed best practices and avoid costly mistakes. The “Globalization and Leadership” track deals with challenges and opportunities facing business and IT leaders today. This track focuses on new approaches to achieving Growth, Innovation and Business success in organizations. It also cov-ers the socio-economic impact of Global Sourcing across the world and in the US.

Whether you are responsible for managing day to day issues or for strategizing long term initiatives, this exclusive forum will provide opportunities to interact, learn and share issues, challenges and solutions with your peers. We look forward to your thoughts, suggestions and exchange of ideas to guide the future of this global industry.

From distributed process management, through the adoption of the shared services model, and now on to flexible sourcing options,

business process management has matured appreciably over recent years. While the initial value proposition for Business Process

Outsourcing was clearly centered on driving significant cost efficiencies in support of bottom-line savings, increasingly the focus is

shifting to the role BPO can play in improving top-line performance.

An enterprise which can leverage their sourcing options for improved growth and agility will thrive as the global economy continues to

recover. This is the basis for next generation BPO, the continuation of the transformation from an efficiency-focused organization to an

increasingly effective organization built on a foundation that continuously leverages innovative ideas to become more agile.

Nearly 40% of humanity is now living in countries where standards of living will double in a little more than a decade and will likely

increase 100-fold within a single human life span. The transformations underway in what used to be called the developing world par-

ticularly in India and China may rank with the Industrial Revolution and the Renaissance in terms of their historical significance. Dr.

Summers suggests several scenarios for how the global economy could evolve and points out both the opportunities and challenges

for businesses, investors and American public policy.

New economic order or not, there’s changing priorities fueled by new generations; of people (the Generation i or Gen Z); of technologies

(cloud and mobility); of businesses who strive to find newer revenue streams and faster time to market and of newer global economies .

With this as the backdrop, if we examine the needs of the IT/BPO sector closely, this industry in the years ahead will require Promethean

efforts on several fronts, the most of which it may turn out will be dealing with transforming as a true outsourcing partner to customers.

Implicit in this statement is the integration of IT & Business Process Services. Employer — employee relationship with an ever increas-

ing focus on empowerment and innovation will drive transformational leadership. The evolving relationship between businesses and

customers whether transactional or strategic will necessitate the partner and vendor eco system to transform themselves. The IT/BPO

industry will deal with newer business models, consolidation and newer competitors — all of which will drive transformation. Sushma

Rajagopalan presents a framework and supports it with insights and anecdotes on the practices followed by the industry to promote

such transformations.

The last 10 years have seen a relentless focus on cost cutting in every IT organization. But those days are over. CIOs today must col-

laborate with their business counterparts to speed up the delivery of new, innovative revenue opportunities. Pressure is mounting even

as business environments and systems grow more complex. So how do IT leaders speed up the delivery of complex business solu-

delivering real world, practical lessons learned and best practices than can be acted on the day after the conference to deliver almost

Global Sourcing has resulted in the rise of a new middle class in several developing countries and even been the catalyst for the creation

of an economic super-power (i.e. India). The impact of this industry has gone far beyond the immediate creation of jobs and investment

related gains. The economic force unleashed by the rise of Global Sourcing has created several value chains across sectors including Edu-

cation, Hospitality, Healthcare, Logistics and even Tourism. While there is a continuous debate about the negative repercussions of Global

Sourcing, the positive impact of this sector in uplifting social and economic conditions across many different regions from Latin America to

Africa and Asia cannot be understated. Going beyond their initial corporate objectives, many companies have actually created innovative

social, educational and healthcare related programs in the countries where they operate. This panel of executives with experience across

the globe will provide a fresh perspective on Global Sourcing and how it has brought new hope, opportunities and stability in many regions.

Recent economic and geo-political turmoil has brought about dramatic changes in offshoring locations’ competitiveness and viability.

While India, Philippines and China are rapidly maturing; emerging destinations in Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America

offer very compelling value propositions. Countries that were safe bets a few years ago and still attract large investments in the industry

appear to have peaked in certain sectors and may not be as attractive for some firms. Other countries with high growth in the recent

years (such as Egypt and Morocco) are suddenly in the midst of business uncertainties. As the number of countries competing for

The populist perception of global sourcing is that of a one-way street – sucking jobs and economic wealth out of the U.S., while empow-

ering developing nations. Does global sourcing mean less qualified U.S. IT and business processing jobs? On the contrary, is it realistic

to assume that global sourcing is a win-win for both the U.S. and the global destinations? The success of the industry in offshore nations

such as India, Philippines and China has proven to be mutually beneficial resulting in creation of new markets for U.S. products and

services. With almost $60Bn in revenues, the Indian outsourcing industry has not only changed the landscape of the local economy,

but also positively boosted the competitive positions of many U.S. companies that relied on these Indian firms. But is that translating into

more high value jobs for U.S. citizens? Is Global sourcing on the whole having a net positive impact on the U.S. economy or is it hurting

its recovery? Will changing regulations, immigration laws and tax polices be a fall-out of global sourcing? These and other important

issues concerning the future of Global Sourcing and the U.S. as a leading economic superpower will be addressed in this session.

Service Level Agreements are one of the most important tools you have to shape and improve Service Provider performance and

quality. But SLA’s are a measure of past performance, which in themselves don’t facilitate innovation or continuous improvement in a

relationship. A more holistic approach is required that starts with a contract that establishes a partnering relationship between buyer

and service provider. Equally important is the blending of SLA measures and strategies for mutual gain that benefit both parties based

upon improved performance. Building a healthy, long term relationship based upon a win-win formula brings about more collaborative

innovation which can result in reduced costs and improved service quality. Our expert panelists will share their experience about how

they have gone beyond SLAs and Contracts to craft successful and sustainable sourcing relationships.

TheNewGlobalEconomy Dr. Lawrence Summers Sponsored by Director, White House National Economic Council for President Barack Obama, 2009-2010; President, Harvard University, 2001-2006; Secretary of the Treasury, 1999-2001;

Chief Economist of the World Bank, 1991-1993

Nearly 40% of humanity is now living in countries where standards of living will double in a little more than a decade and will likely

increase 100-fold within a single human life span. The transformations underway in what used to be called the developing world par-

ticularly in India and China may rank with the Industrial Revolution and the Renaissance in terms of their historical significance. Dr.

Summers suggests several scenarios for how the global economy could evolve and points out both the opportunities and challenges

for businesses, investors and American public policy.

Dr. Lawrence Summers is one of the most distinguished voices in America today on the global economy and the role of the United

States in the world. He has served as Director of the National Economic Council for President Obama, President of Harvard University,

Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, and Chief Economist of the World Bank. His tenure as Treasury Secretary coincided with

the longest period of sustained economic growth in U.S. history, and made him an expert on domestic economics and a leading au-

thority on international finance. As Director of the White House National Economic Council, Dr. Summers emerged as the key economic

decision-maker in the Obama administration. He served as an architect of the Recovery Act and other job creation measures and the

Financial Stability Program. As co-chair of the President’s Auto Task Force, he led the restructuring of the U.S. automobile industry.

On Dr. Summers’ service, President Obama said, “I will always be grateful that at a time of great peril for our country, a man of Larry’s

brilliance, experience and judgment was willing to answer the call and lead our economic team”.

The guiding principles of effective global sourcing are in many ways the same as those for effective investment management – goals are

met through a combination of effective allocation and diversification, a long-term perspective, and a strong focus on performance and

risk management. To achieve sourcing success in the new economic reality, a portfolio approach is critical – optimizing the sourcing

mix along the dimensions of location, ownership and value chain position based on macroeconomic, industry and corporate strategy

triggers. With the increasing shift to SaaS and as vendors increase their capabilities to take over strategic functions, proactive perfor-

mance and risk management is more critical than ever to maximize sourcing returns and to minimize risk. This session will provide a

good perspective on sourcing strategies to maximize returns in this economic climate.

TransformationalLeadershipandStrategiesforSucceedingintheNewEconomicOrder

Sushma Rajagopalan InTroDuCED By: Head — Global Strategy & Wendell Jones Business Process Services CEO

L&T Infotech SIM International

Sushma Rajagopalan is a global business leader with more than 20 years of experience in IT services, outsourcing and technology busi-

ness. Her career has been an eclectic mix of corporate and entrepreneurial ventures. She re-entered the IT industry as a Chief Strategy

Officer after spending 5 years in building her own growth consulting and M&A advisory firm. In her current capacity as the Head of

Global Strategy and Business Process Services at L&T Infotech, Sushma is responsible for positioning the company for continued

growth and the associated strategic initiatives including M&A and Sales & Marketing Operations.

1464 World BPo/ITo Forum • June 28–29, 2011 • Hyatt on the Hudson • Jersey City, NJ USA

thank you for attending this year’s event.

We extend special recognition to the Sponsors, Partners, Speakers and Attendees for their time and support.

The World BPO/ITO conference is in its fourth year, and getting close to its aspirations to become the “Davos” of off-shoring events. The conference offers a “one stop shop” for executives at mid- to large-sized companies (CIOs, CFOs, COOs) to hear from speakers who can offer best practices in global sourcing, and to meet with representatives of service providers from countries around the World.

Globalization is both fueling and being fueled by massive, technological shifts: open industry standards; new modes of collaboration and integration; and above all, the emergence of the Internet as a global platform.

As a result of these forces, new business models are emerging. These new business models are setting the stage for C-Suite Executives to pull their organizations up to a new level of competitive advantage. Hence, IT has outgrown its posi-tion as a provider of efficient operations and is now a central component of innovation, growth and business transformation.

In this environment, CIOs are at the tipping point of an enormous opportunity to directly participate in the shaping of the strategic future of their enterprises and move beyond their historic role as IT expert. Not only do CIOs have a ‘seat at the C-Suite dining table, increasingly they now also have a ‘voice’ at the table

At World BPO Forum 2010, it was quite clear that part of the “new normal” would lie in transformational outsourcing, as is evident from the exploitation of synergies between ITO and BPO. BPO is no longer just a cost play, and ITO cannot simply layer on top of existing IT systems. Taken together, there is an opportunity for transformational change. American jobs going overseas is an emotive subject, but there is widespread accord that the resulting efficiency improvements will allow better use of skilled U.S. professionals to gain productivity and spearhead innovation – thereby maintaining America’s position as the undisputed leader in the post-industrial world.

With a strong roster of speakers, practitioners and service providers lined up to participate in World BPO/ITO Forum 2012, it is well on its way of becoming “The Davos” for Strategic Sourcing.
