Overseas Buyer Export Conference…Participated in by ten companies from five countries including India, etc.
To improve the export environment and diversify the overseas sales channels, which became
strained as a result of the recent THAAD deployment issue, Chungcheongnam-do held the
Overseas Buyer Invitational Mini Export Conference, receiving 1.568 million dollars of export
consultation and winning export contracts worth US$ 121,000 during the event.
On April 27, Chungcheongnam province held the 2017 Overseas
Buyer Invitational Mini Export Conference jointly with the SMBC
(Small & Medium Business Corporation) and the Chungnam
Headquarters at the Cheil Hotel Onyang.
The export conference was organized with the focus on
supporting and facilitating the recovery of exports in the Chungnam
region in the 1st quarter of this year (an increase of 27.4% compared
to the same period in the previous year, to 18.1 billion dollars), and
continuing into the 2nd quarter.
The conference hosts invited ten major buyer companies from
five countries including Kazakhstan, Japan, Myanmar, India and
New Zealand, while twenty-two small and medium-sized businesses
based in the province also participated in the conference.
Notably, among the companies that participated in the conference
were a number of outstanding small and medium-sized businesses
within the province that specialize in the manufacture of skincare
cosmetics, functional cosmetics and devices, mask packs and health
functional foods.
The conference also featured a space for exchanging exports
with the aim of showing the excellence of products manufactured
by local small and medium-sized companies and boosting exports
between the countries and companies concerned.
The first day (27th) of the conference included a 1:1 export
consultation between foreign buyers and participating companies
from the province, while on the second day foreign buyers had an
opportunity to directly visit the sites of the small and medium-sized
local businesses.
Most of the buyers participating in this year’s conference made
highly favorable comments about the technological excellence and
high quality of the products of companies in the Chungnam region,
and expressed their intention to promote continuous trade, thus
raising expectations for higher exports in the future.
ECONOMIC TERRITORY EXPANDED BY ‘PIONEERING NEW MARKET’
ECONOMY_EXPORT
2017 foreign buyer invitational mini export meeting held in the Cheil Hotel Onyang on April 27.
The province visited small and medium-sized companies
with growth potential to provide them with close support,
including advice on strategies for growth, expert consulting,
and development of the corporate environment, to assist their
designation as World Class 300 companies.
This year some thirty-six Korean companies were selected
for the 2017 World Class 300, including four companies
based in the province, namely, Kirin Industrial (metal
assembly structures, Dangjin), HB Technology (machinery for
producing semiconductors, Asan), Yeonhab (electric circuit
switch/protection/connection device, Cheonan) and TSE
(electronic equipment measurement/test/analysis instrument,
Cheonan).
Since 2011 twelve local companies have been selected as
World Class 300 companies.
The basic criteria for small and medium-sized companies
to be eligible for designation as a World Class 300 company
include posting a sales amount of over KRW 40 billion in
2016 (KRW 10 billion for system SW development & supply
business, engineering business and design business) and less
than KRW 1 trillion.
In addition, their direct & indirect exports must exceed 20%
of the sales amount for the previous year, and their investment
in R&D should be at least 2% of their sales amount in the
previous three years, while the increase in their 5-year average
sales amount should be 15% or higher.
The selected companies receive support for the development
of outstanding R&D core and application technologies for the
next 5 years, overseas marketing to promote their advance into
the target market for the next 3~5 years, free participation in
Job Expos, and training and consulting for 3~5 years.
Lee Dong-soon, head of business commerce & exchange
in the province, remarked, “This project is expected to lead
to the discovery of outstanding small and medium-sized
companies in the province, with the aim of developing them
into global enterprises that will make a significant contribution
to activating the local economy and creating good quality
jobs.”
Increased to 12 companies…Core and application technologies supported
Four companies based in Chungcheongnam-do have been selected for the ‘Korean Hidden
Champions Development Project – Global Growth Stage, under the World Class 300 Project
hosted by the SMBA (Small & Medium Business Administration) and the Ministry of Trade,
Industry & Energy.
The World Class 300 Project aims to develop small and medium-sized companies armed
with the determination to grow and the potential to lead the global market as ‘Hidden
Champions’.

Measures regarding THAAD
Due to serious concerns about a drop in the export of
agricultural foods to China as a result of the deployment
of THAAD in South Korea, Chungcheongnam province
is focusing on the implementation of measures aimed at
supporting the overseas marketing of local companies that
export agricultural foods.
The export volume of agr icu ltura l foods from
Chungcheongnam province to China amounted to about 65
million dollars last year, which accounts for about 17% of its
total export volume.
Although this is about 3 % less than in 2015, China remains
a market with a high potential for expanding local exports.
The province’s main export goods include milk, seasoned
laver, ginseng, powdered milk, chestnuts and orchids.
Among these, dairy products such as milk and powdered
milk are heavily dependent on export to China, and there
are concerns about the damage caused by the THAAD issue
increasing in the future.
The ostensible reason for China’s rejection of customs
clearance of agricultural foods from the province last year
was the failure to pass the local food hygiene standards for
red ginseng tea and seasoned laver - including the detection
of copper and colon bacillus, and an excessive number of
bacteria, etc.
However, as most of the custom clearance rejections
occurred after the decision to deploy THAAD was made
last July, the main cause has been attributed to the Chinese
government’s application of a stricter hygiene standard, as well
as to seasonal causes such as high temperature and humidity.
Accordingly, the province is seeking to diversify its
export markets to include Southeast Asia by supporting the
participation of companies that export agricultural foods
in the Hong Kong Fresh Agricultural Food Expo and the
Malaysia Food Expo.
In addition, the project to support the overseas marketing
of agricultural foods will be promoted in advance by hosting
foreign buyer invitational export meetings on a regular basis.
Moreover, funds of KRW 1.8 bill ion will be made
available at the low interest rate of 1% to enable locally-based
companies to upgrade their sanitary facilities and purchase
raw materials for export in preparation for the Chinese
government’s application of strict hygiene standards.
Also, companies that export agricultural foods to China will
be supported with consistent monitoring of cases of customs
clearance rejections and delays by the General Administration
of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine in China.
The results of the monitoring will be disclosed to
local companies through the Agricultural Commerce &
Environment in China Briefing Session.

6 tons of Dangjin Rice exported to Arab Emirates
20 tons of watermelon exported to Sakhalin Oblast on May 24 from the Seobuyeo Nonghyup Nammyeon branch
A total of 6 tons of Dangjin Rice produced by Misomi, an
agricultural corporation located in Godae-myeon, Dangjin-
si, was exported to Arab Emirates on May 16 to increase the
momentum for targeting the global market.
This export has great significance since it has only been 2
weeks since Dangjin City, export company Clean & Green
(CEO Ohta Yoshitoki), and Misomi (CEO Lee Tae-ho) agreed
on a partnership for activating the export of local agricultural
goods including Dangjin Rice on the 28th of last month.
The city and the relevant companies are planning to expand
strategically the export of excellent agricultural processed
goods in Dangjin and study the consumption markets in
Singapore, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries to expand
the export countries steadily.
Even though the exact export volume is not yet confirmed,
baked ginseng is preparing for export in June.
The baked ginseng already pioneered the export market
in February to China; thus, if this export is confirmed, it
is expected to play the role of a steppingstone enabling the
excellent agricultural specialties of Dangjin to advance into
the overseas market.
“The domestic market is suffering from great difficulties
in the sales channel due to the excessive production of rice
and lack of consumption. We will focus active marketing on
the overseas market to promote the export of rice to create
more income for the farms,” said Woo Hee-sang, head of the
agricultural policy division in Dangjin.
Meanwhile, the Dangjin Rice exported to Arab Emirates is
planned to be sold for use in sushi and for meals.
Goodtrae Watermelon from Buyeo-gun is finally attracting
Russian consumers.
During the hot weather, Goodtrae Watermelon is very
popular not only in Korea but also in foreign countries. On
the 24th, 20 tons of Goodtrae Watermelon was shipped to
Sakhalin Oblast in Russia from the Seobuyeo Nonghyup
Nammyeon branch.
In the event celebrating the first export to Russia, many
guests participated to offer their congratulations, including
Lee Yong-woo, governor of Buyeo Gun, head of organization
& groups, president of the watermelon committee, and
farmers.
Sakhalin Oblast in Russia is a region with the highest
consumption in Russia with population of 600,000, and
there are 30,000 overseas Koreans there. In this region, the
consumption of watermelon is estimated to increase greatly in
May ~ August.
The Gun expects that, by starting with the export of
watermelon to Japan on the 4th and expanding the export to
Sakhalin Oblast in Russia, the brand awareness of Goodtrae
will be increased considerably. Especially, this carries great
significance as the first export to Russia.
Through this export, the preference and consumption
pattern of Russian consumers will be studied to export various
Goodtrae agricultural goods to Russia, including watermelon,
melon, etc.
Goodtrae Watermelon is distributed in the market only
when the sugar content is over 11 brix, and the quality is
famous for being uniform and excellent by using not only
experts with long experience in measuring watermelon but
also the latest equipment such as the non-destructive internal
quality measuring system.
Buyeo Governor Lee Yong-woo, who participated in the
event, expressed his satisfaction with Goodtrae advancing
into the global market through export and emphasized the
need to take greater care in the quality control of Goodtrae
Watermelon in Buyeo.

expecting 520 billion Won in sales, 205 new jobs,
and 419 billion Won in export for the next 5 years.
“Germany and Israel have invested in Chungnam
since last year. I hope that the development of
the two companies will realize not only a win-
win situat ion between the companies and
Chungcheongnam-do but also a good relationship
between the two countries,” said Governor Ahn.
Cheonan Mayor Koo Bon-young believes it is
an outstanding choice to invest in Cheonan, where
many multinational companies including German
companies and automobile & electronics companies
are located. The city will actively support the
development of AJA as well as the city of Cheonan,
he added.
“We welcome the investment of Israel in
Hongseong-gun, and we will show utmost support
for the successful investment of Ondolia,” said Kim
Seok-hwan, governor of Hongseong.

Vadim Gekhtman showed gratitude for the interest
and support shown by the province, city, and Gun
and vowed to make their best efforts to realize a
win-win situation between the companies and the
residents.
Meanwhile, the province attracted 7 foreign
investment companies in this year, so the 2017
goal of attracting 8 companies is expected to be
accomplished earlier than planned.

Chungcheongnam-do is initiating activity in Japan on
“Baekjeya,” the tourist attraction group organized jointly
with Si & Gun to attract Japanese tourists.
As the first local activity of Baekjeya in Japan, the
province participated in the “2017 Korea Travel Mart,” the
Korean Culture & Tourism Expo held in Osaka on May
22 ~ 24.
In the past, the province and Si & Gun performed the
promotion of Chungnam tourism or activities of attracting
Japanese tourists individually; beginning this year,
however, the province and Si & Gun are planning to carry
out the activity of attracting tourists together to enhance
the synergistic effect.
In this event, the province, Nonsan-si, and Buyeo-
gun participated jointly in the business presentation and
tourism briefing session for personnel of Japanese travel
agencies and also visited local travel agencies to perform
sales call activities.
In addition, various festivals and events within
the province including the Baekje Historic Remains,
2017 Geumsan World Ginseng Expo, Boryeong Mud
Festival, and Big Field Music Festival were introduced
actively to local travel agencies with great interest in
Chungcheongnam-do and historic remains of Baekje.
“Since the Baekje Historic Area was listed in UNESCO,
there has been a great increase in visits by Japanese tourists.
The province will actively attract Japanese tourists this year
centering on large-scale events such as the Boryeong Mud
Festival and Ginseng Expo,” said Lee Hong-woo, head of
tourism marketing in the province.
Meanwhile, the province is carrying out active tourism
marketing activities this year not only to Japan but also
to other Asian countries including China, Taiwan, Hong
Kong, and Malaysia by visiting the relevant countries to

Service initiated for “establishing energy conversion”…Future climate·energy decentralization will be planned to apply to all areas of the province until 2040
FULL-SCALE NON-FOSSIL FUEL AND NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEM
ECONOMY_ENVIRONMENT
Chungcheongnam-do established the plan for mid- to
long-term strategy on shifting the fossil fuel-centered energy
paradigm to new & renewable energy.
On May 10, the province held the “Chungcheon nam-
do Energy Conversion Vision Establishment Research
& Service” initiation briefing session at the conference
room in the Provincial Office, with 20 people attending
including Administrative Vice Governor Nam Gung-young
and members of the special provincial climate & energy
committee.
The Chungnam Energy Conversion Vision is promoting
the establishment according to the need for planning future
climate and energy policies in response to climate change,
population and industrial structure change, and local
environmental conditions.
The plan is for the province to pursue fair and righteous
energy decentralization for the supply of inexpensive and
stable power by breaking free from the role of power
production base, aim for a safe, decarbonized renewable
energy system, and prepare and lead the conversion process of
the national energy system.
The research & service for establishing the vision will be
completed within this year, and the province will set the
temporal & spatial range to be applied until 2040.
Through research & service, the province will ▲provide the
vision establishment system and project promotion schedule
and ▲ study & analyze the domestic & foreign energy policy
trend and cases, existing energy policies in the province on
responding to climate change, and status & prospects of
energy supply and consumption in Chungnam.
In addition, the future energy scenario will be developed for
Chungnam based on the survey among provincial personnel
on awareness of energy and climate change.
Moreover, the implementation methods for accomplishing
