REMINDER:

Don't forget to send your child to school with a reusable water bottle. Students have time during school to

fill and refill their water bottles as classrooms are equipped with filling stations. We recommend that parents

send their students with an empty water bottle to avoid the extra weight In the student backpack. Please

contact the school office at 509-784-1314 or 509-784-1911 if you have any questions.

RECUERDO:

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Dear Entiat Families and Community Members,

Let me first start by saying how thankful I am that WE ARE ALL HERE, back in person, and 100% together all day! It has been a great first month of school as our community of teachers and learners have re-established relationships, learning habits, and daily rou-tines. Our staff has worked hard to ensure a safe, student-centered learning environment and communicate regularly with fami-lies. Our students have been resilient. They have adapted to school processes with grace, while learning what it takes to be back in school a full day. And, our parents and community partners have been busy! Entiat’s PTO meets regularly to find ways to support our school and sports programs, while our community partners establish means to support to our classrooms and families. Alt-hough there have been many obstacles to overcome during the transition from hybrid learning into the new school year, this com-munity has come together and will be stronger than ever! I look forward to seeing what all we accomplish together this year!

I wanted to take a moment and introduce to you some of our new staff members:

Certified Teaching Staff

Susan Morris, School Counselor. I am very excited to be partnering with Susan Morris, our new school counselor. Susan is joining Entiat from having served the Grangeville, Idaho community the last several years. She is a wealth of knowledge and has already hit the ground running, meeting with students, families, and building community partners.

Laura Potts, P.E. and 6th Grade Agile Youth Development. Many of you may already know Ms. Potts from her student teaching experience. Well, we are excited to say we were able to hire her before anyone else did!

Laura King, P-12 Interventionist. Some of you may know Mrs. King, also, as she has served in our bilingual program the last couple years as a paraprofessional. Mrs. King brings with us incredible experience in Middle School and High School, having taught Eng-lish, Math, and Special Education. We are excited to have her join the intervention team!

Edwin Medina, Floating Substitute Teacher. Many of you already know Mr. Medina, not only as a substitute teacher the last cou-ple years, but also as the assistant football coach! Mr. Medina is incredibly flexible

Classified Para Professional Staff

The following para professionals are joining our incredible special education and academic intervention teams: Lissbet Pina, Jack Deatherage, Katie Renggli, Thomas Sanford, Jessica Calkins, and Karen Lopez. These individuals are replacing retirements and resig-nations. Please join me in welcoming all our new staff members.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teachers, Mrs. Morris (our counselor), or myself. We are here to sup-port your student and family.

Warmest Regards, Tracie Husted Principal

Entiat School District is a Title I District Paul Rumburg Elementary School participates in the Title I Schoolwide Program. Title I, Part A is part of the Every Student Succeeds Act. Its goal is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards. Whether your child is receiving Title I services from paraprofessionals, and if so, whether those paraprofessionals meet state/federal requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act. CHANGE TO ASB CARDS AND ATHLETIC EVENT TICKET FEES:

The Washington State Legislature passed HB1660 that requires that school districts waive all fees for attendance

at or participation in any optional, non-credit extracurricular event of cultural, social, recreational, or athletic nature for students

who are low income. The law also requires the districts to reduce fees for students’ family members and nonstudents over the age

of 65 who, by reason of their low income, may be unable to pay the fees to attend these type of events. The purpose of this law

was to remove financial obstacles that would potentially prevent students and their families from being able to fully participate in

extracurricular activities.

The district’s percentage of students who are considered low income is around 65%. To avoid the complications of operating

separate systems for selling ASB Cards and Event Tickets to both non-low and low income students and family members, in July the

Entiat School Board adopted Policy 3510 that eliminated both ASB Card fees and Event Ticket Fees for ALL students and non-

students completely, regardless of income. Elimination of participation fees (ASB Card Fees) will make it easier financially for ALL

students to participate in extracurricular activities. The District hopes that by removing attendance fees (ticket charges) for athletic

events (high school football, volleyball and basketball; track and tennis and middle school events already do not charge ticket fees),

attendance and support for these activities from the community at large will increase.

Local enrichment levy funds as well as additional monies generated by Associated Student Body (ASB) fundraising will be used to

make up for the loss of ASB revenue resulting from no ASB Card and ticket sales.

School Picture Re-Take

Monday, October 18th

School breakfast and lunch will once again be offered daily in the Commons/Cafeteria for all Entiat students. (The Grab ‘n Go meals served during our COVID hybrid schedules will no longer be provided.) The District will follow all health and safety protocols during meal periods, ensuring that students maximize physical distancing during meals and that lunch tables and serving areas will be sanitized as recommended by the Dept. of Health.

Entiat Schools will operate under a meal program authorized by the USDA that allows ALL students to receive school meals FREE through the 2021-22 school year regardless of their income or meal status.

Students will still need to pay for a la carte items and individual milks and can charge these items to their school meal accounts.

Even though USDA has extended free meals for all students for the year, some families will still need to fill out an Application for Free or Reduced Meals to determine the status of your child/children in case the P-EBT program is expanded into 2021-22 and to help establish the Free/Reduced status level for the whole school district. The District’s Free/Reduced level is used to determine district eligibility for other state and federal programs and funding, so we urge you to submit the application if you receive one in your child’s back-to-school packet. (Some students will be automatically coded Free or Reduced through the Direct Certification process and will not receive an application in their packet or need to submit one.) If you need a new form, please contact the school office.
